  1. It might be doable if we all agree to: - pass up posting on this thread during lent, holidays, and weekdays. - keep quotes short and concise - resize large photos to thumbnails for posting - move OT discussions to PMs or [insert name here] thread where its appropriate - type single spaced. - and most important of all post only new and relevant news.
  2. Fan service shots and Ace Combat 5 music don't mix anyways. Its way too early to discount fan service though after all it probably won't be over until the Chinese Waitress sings. Looking back at the trailer I saw a huge meteor shower crashing on to the earth. Considering the Captain Gendo Ikari, I wouldn't be surprised if its labeled something like "Second Impact."
  3. I haven't seen the film yet so I can't judge it, but I do hate that James Cameron is selling it as this original story he has for years. Its painfully obvious that Avatar was very much inspired by Paul Anderson's "Call Me Joe," which I don't have a problem with at all. What I am dispointed about is that James Cameron won't even acknowledge the influence Paul Anderson's work had on Avatar at all and refuses to give the guy even a line in the credits. I mean if I had made a blockbuster hit like Avatar I would be publicly thanking every inspiration I could think, giving them private screenings, bring them to Hollywood parties, etc not claiming that I am some sort of origianl genius that happened to think up the same thing by coincidence.
  4. Not by any means. All of us know we just got to see this. And as long as HG doesn't get involved in this somehow, it will be the far lesser evil of Macross plagiarism.
  5. Gamlin isn't surfing for porn he is just watching Gunbuster... for the plot, just like the rest of us do. I watched the OVAs for the first time the other day so of I figured I take a snapshot of it and photoshop it onto Gamlin's monitor for the joke, censored of course to be on the mods safe side. Don't worry your mind isn't playing tricks on you and that pretty much sums up the scene, and yes it is in a much later episode. Of course it all fits now... Megan Fox's flower boy will start a family and father M7's flower girl sometime in the future. Years from now in 2045 his daughter, our familiar flower girl, who will inherit his Megan Fox flower genes will have the overwhelming need to give flowers to Basera because... Basera is the son of Shia labeouf and Megan Fox!
  6. Rather then buy houses we should pooling the money we use for our Macross addiction together and pay off part of America's debt to China this year in exchange for them to never ever allow HG to get their paws on Astro Plan. If they do we worst case scenario we are looking at Robotech for kiddies and a new pandemic of childhood nostalgia for Robotech.
  7. So the "Astro Plan" in this Astro Plan couldn't possibly be about colonizing planets and spreading humanity though out the galaxy right? Too true. It'll be interesting to see how Big West and Sunrise react to this as well. They better squash otherwise Warner Brothers will probably buy these Astro Plan's designs for their Robotech LAM when they see this.
  8. Thanks. I had been scouring over discs 8 and 15 for that Totseki Love Heart acoustic video, but I was able to find it now. Either aliens gave us a huge moon with saturn's rings and I didn't get the memo or its an Earth-like planet with a tall mountain out of the middle of nowhere that needs moving. As for the mystical glowing glasses in the vid they seemed to have moved across the edge of the horizon and created a almost as if they fell from the sky like the Macross in the opening of SDF . If John Lenon's pair of glasses falling from the sky on an far off planet isn't the galaxy's way of calling Basera to sing for peace then I don't know what is.
  9. Well I am conspiracy theorist that notices connections in everything. Honestly though when I watched this episode for the first time I completely missed the dress, but then I rewatched last week for the review and was like wait a minute that dress looks very familiar *rewind. Ah ha! So this is where the sundress is really from. Also the name is Freiflug not freifugl:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dgK6-oK8KY. Where in Episode 8 is this clip?: I have been trying to find this clip in the Macross 7 discs.
  10. Okay Episode 8 finally: Basara is tinkering with those hated missiles before Ray comes in and has a chat with him. As Ray points out Basera was only able to save Rex, Gamlin, and the gang because of the missiles and he should leave them in because its better to have them just in case then to be without them in a time of need like carrying an umbrella for a raining day. Though Basera argues that he likes to get soaked in the rain, he apparently leaves them in. Then at a restraunt an evil fountain soda-delvin attacks Mylene out of nowhere only to be thwarted by: No unfortunately its just Gamlin making a fool of himself while having lunch with Mylene at a nice restrauant. Notice though how Mylene is dressed up all nice, but still has those few front hairs sticking up put of place and her hairy pet Gubbaba id no where in sight as she puts on an uncomforabtle false front to Gamlin. Back at the Mansion and Ray tells Basera about a recording deal they have later in the afternoon. Naturally the free spirited Basera isn't pleased about this. I also have to say at their casual date poor Gamlin plays a complete tool. Not only does he give Mylene a present, but he blirts out that its a Kimino, called a “Tsumugi” and its supposed to calme the hearts of people, before even handing the wrapped gift box to her . To top it off he also has to ask her to please wear it the next time they meet before seeing her off with a salute. Then he runs into his boss, the Diamond Force Captain, who walks in with Max's two bridge bunnies after he laughs that he is much too old for Mylene. One has to wonder though what the divorced Genuis would think of the Captain pimping his two bridge bunnies. Cut to the band performing in the recording studio and the ambiguously gay manager Honey, absolutely hates there Planet Dance performance. Saying that its too full of passion and that he only wants to deal with a fashionable common melodies that everyone can appreciate. Basera says he is out of luck and storms outside to be alone. Outside poor Flower Girl misses her chance as Mylene literally shoves her out of the way.to complain to Basera how important the recording is to Fire Bomber reaching out. Of course she doesn't understand Basera's missile crisis and how he seeks a “Bomber” sound that is louder then missiles. Basera walks off yet again leaving Mylene, Ray, and us the audience stunned to hear Veridas actually speak! Offering the wisdom that arguing and being rational with Basera is pointless... News report more spritra drained victims pile up as the military has been unsuccessful in capturing the perpetrators as more citizens become afraid. Then again I wouldn't feel safe at all if my military and police utter failed to ever notice 7-foot tall guys with trenchcoats, purple mouthguards, and black visors roaming the city streets . In other fasihion news Mylene ponders what to with Basera in the iconic yellow sundress like two years before Asuka made it a recognizable fashion statement in Episode 8 of Evangelion! And to think almost a year ago after Episode 7 of Frontier aired fans everywhere were citing Sheryl as pulling the best Asuka impersonation ever. Some one tell those EVA geeks and the cosplay fashion police about this injustice. Back to the show. After the commerical break Mylene is able to convince Basera to give the recording another shot tomorrow, guess that Kimino must really work after all. Then for the first time we get to hear about Gepelnitch's plan to herd Macross 7 into a Spritual farm, but of course Gigile doesn't care and just wants to enjoy the hunt. Back at the recording studio tensions run high as Honey complains they need to get a decent recording now when of course the battle siren rings. Basera smiles at Mylene and just says “Bomber” before running out to battle. Naturally Honey is outraged while Ray plays it cool and tells them it will work out as he sets them up to record Basera's battle performance though the military channel. The typical stock footage battle ensures and Gigile retreats after Gamlin blows apart his gun, as Fire Bomber wraps up Planet Dance for their recording. The Planet Dance recording quality itself is full of noise from the battle, but it still sounds “powerful and gutsy” to the sound techian. Just as Mylene gets all excited Honey chimes in that it will never sell to burst her bubble. Ray up to something as usual, says that is just Honey's opinion and gives her a wink moments before his ex Akiko comes in to buy the record from Honey so she can sell it under her label. All the while Basera has to listen Gamlin smear the fact that his singing did nothing to affect the battle that the UN Spacey won. Leaving him even more enraged that he hasn't found his “Bomba” sound.
  11. I just ran a google image search for "Alien tractor beam" and it was the second image that showed up and of course the first one that caught my eye... I also had no idea it was a "mainstay cornerstone of British life," according to my Firefox web server flag app the website is actually being hosted in America.
  12. Makes sense. Gundam Seed's Cosmic Era fits somewhere on the Macross Timeline right? I mean with its music idols, love triangles, space whale corpse, and two enemy combants getting into a knife before falling in love its got to be a Macross show right? Speaking of Gundam Seed. Doug Bendo complains about Ranka nudity through astral projection being child porn, but is there any record of him complaining about such things in Gundam Seed? I remember watching the final episodes of Gundam Seed on Cartoon Network Friday nights at Midnight (almost as late as Macross Frontier's timeslot) and they didn't have any issues depicting the 15 year old Flay in the nude while she hugs Kira in her astral projection moment. Label it good directing on Macross's part. There was a directior (can't remember his name off the top of my head) was asked why he always does this R-rated action movies, but yet never shows any sex in his movies. His response was something like "Explosions, fights, battles, etc, is something everyone wants to WATCH. Sex is something everyone would rather DO."
  13. It was ADV, not HG, who cast Mari Ijima to do the English dub of SDF Macross when they found out she was in LA. Also according to Mari Ijima her two kids grew up on Robotech while it was on Cartoon Network and were excited that she would be voicing Minmay again. As for Mark Hamil they literally hired him so they could have him utter "Break off and Attack" from Wing Commander... in the trailer for RSC and then they changed the line for the actual movie. FYI X-Men TAS and the first Season of Batman TAS were done by Akom Productions, not DR Movie. AKOM's work on Batman TAS was deemed unsatisfactory though and Warner Bros droped them in favor of DR Movie whom they have been using ever since. Its not just a difference in pay. For the DC Show the charater designs and Key animation were done by in house animators at Warner Brothers then send to DR Movie for in between jobs. For Shadow Chronicles it was pretty much just Tommy Yune, the only real artist at HG, drawing all the character designs and spending months in Korea overseeing the DR Movie animators. It was a newbie directing animators into drawing a newbie piece of animation work. As an inbetween studio DR Movie is geared around drawing EXACTLY what they have been directed to draw through charater designs, key animation, etc. Not to sound mean, but the animators are literally human scanners not original artists. When Animation studios send character designs and key animation to Korean studios they expect the Korean in between animation to match the artwork they supplied. If its not the Korean Studios are dropped out of a contract and the Korean animators find themselves out of a job.
  14. Why would aliens bother with the internet when they can beam up real girls with tractor beams? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/adver...e-up-totty.html Besides no one in Macross would ever use the interenet for something like that... As for External Hard drives personally I found that buying the largest external hard drive can actually be the most economical solution because your getting the most data capacity for your money. For instance last year I bought a 1.5 Terabyte Hard drive that was on sale for $125 giving me 12 GBs per dollar. In my case though I knew I was going to be using a lot of Hard drive space with video editing and subbing DVDs so I knew I would use a ton of hard drive space. Also consider that the actual useable hard drive space you get is smaller then the advertised Hard drive space. For example my 1.5 Terabyte drive is actually a 1.36 Terabyte drive.
  15. Snake! You can't do that! The future will be changed! Your'll create a time paradox! Well the details are always going to be drawn differently to keep things a homage rather then outright plagiarism.
  16. Like that saying an "eye for eye" for just about every friendly VF-11 destroyed their is an enemy Fz-109 that is destroyed as well, so the unlimited plane roster applies to the enemy as well. I think if music is still being sold by 2045 in physcial albums and not phased out completely by itunes then it will probably still be sold through some form of optical media shaped into a "Disc" just like they use in Macross 7. Its also certainly possible music will still be sold on our old 600mb CDs by 2045 only with more advanced encryption to try to prevent sharing. Unless buying more expensive discs packed with over 2hrs of audio or a newer inflated song file catches on as a fad I don't see any real reason to replace CDs with say a DVD or Bluray. By the way Dex did you notice anything familiar about the outfit Mylene wore while she was watching the news?
  17. Ever watched the movie StarGate: Continuum? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4dC3GOu3ko...ated%91#t=2m20s Any alien interested in email or text messaging with us would have to physically access a cellphone/computer of ours or study how our internet networks and devices work and Jerry rig their equipment to connect to our Internet. Its just not practical as the aliens would have to be here on Earth in the first place to do either and then no body would believe that they recieved messages from aliens anyway.
  18. I think we unfortunately have a long way to go before that happens. According to Dr. Michio Kaku we are at the critical point of transition from a Type 0 civilization to a planetary Type 1 civilization. Once planetary resources have been exhausted as a Type 1 Civilization the next step is an interplanetary Type 2 civilization that colonizes and expands upon other planets for more resources such as the Macross Colonization Fleets.
  19. I wanted to add looking back at your comment about the twisting of the wrist, Renato, I realized that Glabil does indeed put some twist into it making the pentagram kinda in between the classical 5-pointed star and the satantic ram's head. Personally I like to think that this was done on purpose as the Protodelvins are supposed to be mystical demons that are kinda in the grey area. On one hand they suck the spiritual energy out of innocent people left and right while on the other hand we are supposed to sympathize and sing to them rather then blast them to bits with weapons. Of course it certainly helps that their is a natural grey area in the depiction and perception of symbols in real life. I don't think the christian and Satanic symbolism is any more or less exotic to the Japanese then to us westerners though especially in this global age. While statistically Christianity is a minority religion in Japan due to the small number of Christian memberships in Japan, it certainly doesn't mean its any more or less exotic to mainstream Japan then the western world. Take bodybuilding, drug use, nerddom, etc as an example. While not every one actually particpates in bodybuilding, drug use, or being nerdy on a regular basis that doesn't stop the average person from recognizing and being at least somewhat familiar with those subjects. When a typical Japanese viewer saw Glabil use that red pentragm beam he probably thought of Satan and black magic as well as any Westerner, only difference probably being is his mental language was in Japanese.
  20. In their true form the Protodevilin are actually non-corporeal beings from another dimension and not the stange creatures that fly in space shooting pentragm beams. The Protoculture were trying to create a new more powerful line of Zentradi that were biological superweapons. To power these super bodies the Protoculture created organs that could tap into interdimensional fold energy, these organs that were merely supposed to supply energy opened a link for the Protodelvin spirits to come into our dimension and posses these new Zentradi bodies. Once in this dimension though the Protodelvin have to feed on spirita energy so they can anchor themselves to this dimension. So their probably countless more Protodelvin then just the 7 buried under the ice there on the other side looking for bridges to come over to our dimension and they probably found them through spiritually sensitive people like fortune tellers, mediums, etc throughout the ages. I don't want to spoil the surprise for everyone. Images sent via PM.
  21. The teacher image is actually from the h-game Discipline. Its literally Bible Black Frontier. No more black magic or Spirtia nonsense just an evil sadistic Proto-Sheryl to sexually exploit college students. And we all know how that is so much scarier and sexier then any black magic wielding Devlins right? I don't think it counts: 1. If you look closely Glabil always fires his beam from an upright pentagram star, which is actually a common religious symbol in Christianity, Judahism, and Islam. The Satanic pentagram that is always the downwards pentagram that resembles the head of ram with a chin, point ears, and two horns as the five points: 2. Black magic brings the "beauty" of all night romps with beautiful people, not exploding cannon fodder. You beat me to the review. Ah well I am about half way done with my episode 8 review, I think I will save it and post it later. Anyways I wanted to add this tidbit: While watching episode 8 guys, pay attention to what Mylene is wearing while she is watching the news on TV just before the very first commerical break. You'll probably recognize it from episode 8 of another giant robo series and Episode 7 of Macross Frontier.
  22. She only shows up as a bridge bunny in Episode 7 aboard the Ocean Resort Ship. As for my Avatar its this bridge bunnies face: + With this body: Cause apparently Mikimoto faces can work well over Sei Shoujo charater designs. That makes my day I've always wondered what crosswalk that was in the ending. I would do a review of Episode 8, but I got errands to run now. Maybe if I have time when I get back I'll have one posted.
  23. The reused video issue can easily be fixed with VOB blanker. Its free, but it only works with Windows. With VOB blanker you can easily find and extract the intro video as its own standalone VOB file. Then you just tell VOB blanker to insert this new VOB file in every instance the video is marked to be reused. Save and output to a new VIDEO_TS folder and then use Image Burn to store the folder in an ISO and you will have a new complete Macross DVD ISO without any of the intro gaps to rip from.
  24. Those five files per four episodes are named something like VTS01_01, VTS01_02, etc right? By default these VOB files splice video footage by every gig of space they take up as files, not episode explaining the random chapter selection. Rather then Rip the entire DVD and basically copy the Five VOB Files directly from the Video_TS file of the DVDs what you want to try is rip each separate Indvidual episodes as its own VOB file. In your DVD ripper look for an option called "VOB splitting" normally its set to 1 gig, set it to NONE. Then select and rip the chapters that make up each individual Episodes and label them Episode #, Chapter #, or whatever just as long as they are numbered so that they are in order. When your done you should have 36 VOB files, one for each individual episode. Put them all under your Macross folder, tell Plex to scan it, and Volia you will have chapters split by Episode.
  25. DVD regional codes is a software issue not a harddrive issue. VLC and other freeware media players will completely ignore reginonal coding so yes your DVD drive can support any region.
