  1. The stripes were always seen as blue outside of Japan thanks to color fading on Harmony Gold's film reel of Macross footage, but as Gubba pointed out they were always green.
  2. Remember that asteroid Macross cannon factory in Macross II it looked too small to be the captured Zentradi factory itself from SDF Macross to me, but considering that the automated Zentradi factories allowed the technologically clueless Zentradi to be self sufficant its easy for me to see how the U.N. would be able to redesign and manufacture Zentradi Nupetiet-Vergnitzs-class cannons for the Macross Cannons from its technology which is the route I believe they went with. Jerry rigging existing ships for a prototype for testing would be one thing, but when your considering building converging beam weapons as humanity's last capable line of defense I think its better to mass produce new cannons that you know are reliable from the ground up over actually retrofitting old space frames that are in various states of wear. Lazy engineers and so little redesigns is understandable when you consder that the UN Spacey has apparently grown to weak from over reliance on the "Minmay Defense." They have been operating on the assumation that the Zentraidi fleets and possibly a few Supervision army remainants are the only possible space threat out there and that neither of them have the resources to approve their armaments. Since they feel they can handle any threat and there is no arms race their is of course little iniative for new weapons.
  3. Yeah right, it's just to meet the plot-objectives. That's what all the space ship designers say. Everyone knows this is the real reason space ships are all designed to be long: I was actually going by the size of A4 paper, the most common paper size in the world. The length of A4 is actually right in the middle of the length of Letter and Legal: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...r_and_legal.svg Miyatake is a more insecure space ship builder then I thought though if he felt he was actually compelled to use the entire length of a page to design the length of the SDF. I leave stunts like that to Tommy Yune and his SDF-3
  4. Easy, its almost as long as my wave motion gun. No matter how big fans may think the SDF-1 appears it can never be longer then the sheets of 8.27 X 11.69 inches of paper it was drawn on.
  5. Spreading life to another planet was not part of Yui's goal. Yui told Fuyutsuki herself that: "Humans can only live on this planet, but Evangelion can live forever... together with the human soul that dwells within it. Even after 5 billion years, when the Earth, the Moon, and even the Sun have disappeared, it will still exist as long as even one person still lives. It will be very lonely, but as long as that one person still lives..." She clearly states that humans can only live on this planet. Spreading life to another younger planet probably wouldn't create a new humanity, but new life in the EVA-01s image. Human or not such new life would have a few billion years at most and then all that was sacrificed on creating an eternal proof of humanity's existance is lost. I do believe Yui was wrong about the "lonely existance" bit though. We all know that Gendo's plan was to somehow become one with Yui well shortly after Yui dissapears Gendo renames Gehirn into Nerv with the slogan "God's in his heaven, all is right with the world" taken from Pippa Passes and the goal to become one with god. Now it can't be just a coincendance that this slogan describes exactly what EVA-01 as a "god" does in the end of EoE so it seems Gendo had to have known about Yui's plan to journey to space for eternity as he planned to unite with her. Gendo seems to have gotten his wish as he is last seen being devoured and assimulated not by the physical EvA-01, but by its spirit as Rei's soul collectors standby to watch. Considering that EVA-01 was the one and only prototype Evangelion that had an exposed mouth leads crediance to the idea that Gendo wanted EVA-01 to devour his soul from the begining as an artifcial S2 engine could always have been installed eventually to EVA-01. Also if Gendo and Yui do stay united as one forvever in the EVA-01 rather then split into new races of angels and humans they will not only remain as proof of humanity's existance, but proof that their can be coexistance rather then separation between humans and angels. Remember that Anno borrowed many ideas about humanity's relationship with the so called "First Ancestral" race and Angels from Macross's ideas of Protoculture and Zentradi. The angel probably released that the best opprunity to strike would be with a pilot as a hostage as it sealed up entry plug with goo to prevent it from being ejected to safety. If the angels learned anything about humanity and the EVAs by that point it would have had to been that their strength lies with coorpration and that they would be hesitante to attack their own. Since the angels can no doubt sense the other EVAs he had to have know that worst case scenario he would be fighting against 3 EVAs, but with a fellow EVA pilot as a hostage chances are at least one them would hesitate to fight for fear of harming their comrade.
  6. Exactly. We never learn what exactly happened to her, but its safe to assume that her body will never be the same again that is why I just went ahead and labeled her a cripple. I agree there are cases when Gendo seem to conviently know what all is going to happen and I do remember Gendo, Futuyuskia, and Seele were always obessed with keeping with the dead sea scroll's schedule so it does seem plausable that Gendo was able to predict the Angel's infection of EVA-03. Especially when you consider that the other three all happen to be on standby and combat ready with an assigned battle plan from Gendo immediately after the angel reveals itself. I wouldn't say that he was just itching to use the dummy plug system though, I believe its more like he is happy to have this vital piece part of his plan in place because he predicted that it would be necessary for the coming battle where Shinji will refuse to fight againist the EVA-03. As for dying of the shortcomings of other people I have to partly disagree. Whenever the chips are down Gendo is always the first to show complete confidance that they will get the job done, but then again if he always predicted their success from the beginning through the dead sea scrolls its easy to see why. In fact the only time he really expresses his anger is whenever Shinji refuses to pilot, but it seems to me that he does it because he blames Shinji for Yui dissappearing into the EVA-01's core and sees him as a brat who is just ungrateful of all the sacrifices he and Yui have made for Shinji to be the pilot of EVA-01. I mean after all Yui did knowingly sacrificed her life and love for Gendo for the sake of entrusting the future of humanity to Shinji.
  7. [quote name='VFTF1' date='Dec 3 2009, 04:22 PM' post='810055' I didn't catch this - but I'm going to watch the episode now...but Toji ends up crippled?! And his sister already was crippled!? That's sad. Pete I though you were rewatching EVA for a second time? I hope I didn't spoil the episode for your first viewing. I obviouly forgot alot about Evangelion since I watched it years ago, but the cripple factor I definitely remember.
  8. WHAT! Your not considering me one of those Robotech sociopaths that Seto apparently feeds and keeps locked in his basement. How can I NOT feel insulted by that comment! If its possible to fly a jet with a guitar then I believe its certainly possible for a Monster to just use the barrels of its gun arms to pick up the Zentradi corpse like a fork-lift then catapult it into the air.
  9. I didn't remember the line about Ritsuko flat out saying that there is one child whose core can be prepared immediately. Then again maybe it wasn't supposed to be taken literally? I know for instance that Anno was shocked that people misundertood his intent when Misato was shown crying with a gun in her hand immediatly after Kaji's death and reedited the scene in the Evangelion Renewal. Considering how impersonal Gendo and Ritsuko are about treating people saying "there is one child whose core can be prepared immediately" could just be another way of saying their is one child we can use immediately. If you want to take the line literally though we still don't know what all is needed for a child to synch with a core. As you point out there definately seems to be psychological manifestions involved and according to Eva geeks about Episode 17: So obiviously something had to have happened to make Touji available as a pilot between Episode 4 and Episode 17. Story wise though I would argue that Touji's back story does have great bearing on him for his deceision to become a EVA pilot, but he never really pilots EVA for it to become manifest in EVA unit 03 regardless of whose soul is in the core. Compared to the other three pilots Toji is the most "normal" and socially successful. He is the athletic jock but not a complete jerk to the otaku nerds, the class rep who every guy finds attractive has a crush on only him, and he doesn't seek the praise of dead parents to him he simply lost a loving family that he never knew to Second Impact. Without his wounded sister he actually seems to have a pretty nice independant life that he can be happy about in this parentless world. His sister however is wounded and apparently getting worse causing him to feel like he has failed as a brother, but after meeting with Ritsuko during lunch in Episode 17 he is suddenly shown to feel uplifted. So its obvious that he is all to happy to pilot EVA for the sake of his sister getting the best possible hospital care. Which brings me to the significance of Touji's back story: its a tradegy that Touji became an EVA pilot with the best intentions: to get his sister the best care possible after she become a crippled causality in the first battle between a Berserk EVA-01 and an Angel. Instead of becoming the next EVA pilot though he becomes the next crippled casuality from a battle between the Berserk EVA-01 and an Angel just like his sister. So Touji is left just as psychologically crippled as he is physically crippled because his whole purpose in life was to protect and look out for his sister, but now he is just as crippled and helpless as she is and he can't bear to have her ever learn the truth, that he risked his life and became crippled just for the sake of her. So regardless of whose soul is actually in the core we the audience understand the tragic irony of Touji psychological scars as the crippled pilot of EVA-03 thanks to Touji's family life with his crippled sister.
  10. I just have to say that it just cracks me up how I emphasis "Don't worry so much about hurting her feelings" and you guys skip it and talk about the next line. When Roy tells Hikaru "to be aggressive and make her your own" in my English fansub at least, I know full well he is purposely exagerating and going over the top and not supposed to be taken literally. Remember he is trying to hook up the Ice-cold Misa and timid Hikaru. Simply saying "I think you two would be great together" isn't going to work for this dense pair so of course he gives this over the top speech about what it means to really be a man and a women before making out with Claudia to try to get through to them while not being obvious and upfront about his intentions. @VTF1: I believe your just sabotaging yourself with that kind of negative thinking and rationalizing. Love, attraction, romance whatever you want to call it is as instinctive as walking, eating, and breathing and its better if you just don't even think about it. @HappyPenguins: That story just makes my day as I come from a Technical Insuitate where long term relationship between nerds are unfortunately few and far between. @Einherjar: What can I say I love to let myself get carried away and be funny at times, but you do have a point that this topic is getting into personal off-topic stuff that should be wrapped up like NOW.
  11. Hey Pete! Your man aren't you? A man needs to be aggressive at times. If you want a love girl, you must be prepared to go after her. Don't worry so much about hurting her feelings. If you really love her be aggressive! Make her your own! So the next time your with a girl don't JUST remember love. REMEMBER to ask yourself "What the Fock Would Roy Do?!" BAKAYAROU!!!!! Your just as much a kiss-ass for agreeing with the logic *cough suck-up *cough "that women are super great just for being able to put up with Robotech and "guys" as well!" Both you should have pride that your men and NEVER even consider labeling us men down to the level of that crappy series!!
  12. I don't have EVA on DVD, but if I remember correctly Misato and Risko discuss how Touji's core is all ready and that he has agreed to becoming the 4th child on the condition that his sister get the best possible care while the camera focus him on leaving the hospital presumably from visiting his sister. If that is the case then Touji's sister definitely couldn't be the core if the EVA's core while she lays wounded in the hospital bed. Whats more though we all know Gendo plays people like cards, but he has never been shown to actually have someone killed unless they were really asking for it. I mean he waited until Kaji kidnapped his only friend Fuyutsuki despite knowing that he was traitor for some time and who in the right mind wouldn't consider shooting Ritsuko in cold blood after threatening to shoot you in the back? As heartless as Gendo may appear Yui did see a lot of compassion in him and their is no evidence that Gendo ever once killed anyone merely for the sake of having a soul to harvest for a core. Consider that Asuka and Ritsuko's mothers both committed suicide and of course Yui voluntarily merged with EVA-01 and never looked back. Shinji merged with EVA-01 and then chose to live life and was actually REBORN from a puddle of primordial soup. One would think that people supposedly murdered or in Touji's sister's case supposedly died struggling to survive from wounds would jump at the case to be reborn from the EVA's cores rather then accept their fate like Yui or suicidal people. I believe that the soul has to be "a mother," but not necessarily the pilot's mother. That would explain why they even bothered putting Kaworu in EVA-02 with Asaka's mom still in the core of EVA-02. It also explains why all the motherless children in Shinji's class would be compatible EVA pilots: If they never bonded with a mother then it would be natural for their souls to accept and synch with the soul of any mother. As for the Dummy Plug system and Rei I believe they work with EVA because they were all cloned from Lillith who is not just any angel, but the "mother of humanity." So in there case they could be the mother in the EVA-pilot relationship for a change and make EVA-00 the rebelious daughter.
  13. Believe it or not preventing the pain of monthly cycles and childbirth is actually easier then preventing the pain of Robotech for women, Lolicon. I have known a handful of women who became vegans and they all claimed that after avoiding meat completely they had zero pain and PMS during periods and the few that had children claimed to have had no pain during childbirth either.
  14. It's a separate set completely. The Robotech versions are edited versions of the Original series and not merely a different dub track over identical video footage. To make that option available in the same set you would have to double the DVD count cause you would be craming two video tracks for basically the same episode. HG even stated that the only real reason they bothered remastering the less popular Sourthern Cross and Mosepeda was so that they would have Remastered Footage to work with to for creating the Remastered Robotech release from scratch rather then attempting to remaster the ugly Robotech Legacy footage.
  15. They aren't being sold under the Robotech name though, they are just being advertised "by hyping up their ties to Robtech" exactly like Animego and ADV did. On this other page advertising Robotech they clearly state the Robotech sagas are based on the original Japanese series.
  16. That explains a lot yet its not that surprising. I think its less about the lack of Robotech's brand recoginiation and much more that animation isn't taken seriously in the US that no network will commit to a new Robotech series. I for one have to give HG credit for staying true to their belief to keep Robotech a serielized story that is more mature then the typical American cartoon yet family friendly at the same time. Unfortantly their is no room for a serious animated Space Opera to American Network executives. To them its either got to be a silly cartoon for kids with no serialized storyline or a gritty Live action series packed with as much sex appeal as allowed for 10 pm on the SyFy channel for older audiences. If your that confident would you be willing to make a bet? If so I'll ask a friend to rip the video from his Robotech the Origianal Collection DVD set that was encoded with the first airing broadcast footage of Robotech and post it youtube or something for us all to see how Corg dies in the first airing of New Generation.
  17. It possible there seems to be at least one love song on the posted soundtrack listings for Avatar, which practically spoil the movie with their song titles.
  18. Someone contact the Daily Planet, VFTF1 is Vandal Savage!
  19. Wanzerfan, you say you say this Corg scene in an unedited showing of Robotech: The Untold Story in a theater in Houstan right? Well Mosepeda footage was never used and Scott blasted blasted Corg with missiles from a Beta. Megazone 23 footage on the other hand was used as we all know in the movie and it had armored and unarmored villans being blown to bits from exploding mini-missiles from transforming motorcyle mecha. Mystery solved. GI JOE earned $300 million in theaters and even if NONE of the DVDs that was released on November 3rd sold the studios have already made a $130 Million profit because the movie cost $170 million to make. Despite the financial meltdown people are still spending money to be entertained. The real finacial issue is that Hollywood movie budgets are so bloated from relying on expensive celebrity talent and big name studios while movies like District 9 can be made for a mere $30 million. Halo was scrapped and Cowboy Bebop is getting a new less SFX intense script simply because both Hollywood adaptions were both estimated to cost about $500 million and the studios had the sense that it is just not practical to invest in a 500 million dollar movie regardless of the popularity of the franchise. I can't stress enough that regardless of the status of the economy, the 80s nostalgia wave, the Macross issue, or anything else Robotech will be just like any other Hollywood movie: it all boils down solely to how much the movie will cost and whose name(s) are attached to it.
  20. In this case its more like a Transformers movie gave life to another Robotech movie. If anything Transformers shows how easy it is to sell giant robots to young American movie goers with even the dumbest plots in a Live Action movie. I have seen plenty of hardcore Otaku with little or no interest in mecha Anime actually enjoy that stupid ROTF on the opening day. The thing to remember is that it is going to be EASY to make and sell a LA Robotech movie to many casual movie goers with a catchy trailer packed with mecha and spacebattles in today's CG. But then poor old Jet Fire will lose his legendary status as the one and only Transformers and Robotech in one Toy ever if they add ROTF to the Robotech franchise!
  21. I don't think Tobey Maguire and WB care too much about the lack of Macross rights when producing a Robotech movie when they millions of dollars and resources at their disposal to fill in the gaps with the typical Hollywood BS. If Michael Bay was able to pull off Transformers without Kawamori's Diaclone designs that everyone has nostalgic for as the G1 designs than no can say say yet that Tobey Maquire can't pull off Robotech without Kawamori's Macross and Valkaryire designs that only Robotech and Macross fans would remember. Its also too early to come to conclusions that the lack of Macross rights is holding up progress on the RLAM. Tobey Maguire and company didn't even call HG about acquire Robotech until after Transformers was a box office hit in July 2007 so he and WB have only had Robotech in their hands for a little over two years. Voltron may have a confirmed director and script, but it has been in development since 2004 despite licensing issues of its own. Yes I can. The girls in Shadow Chronciles would be animated with the Gainax bounce, Rick Hunter would look like an old Gendo, Maia's color would be Red, and the floating heads would hide behind AT Fields. The movie itself written and directed by HG would still suck giant SDF-1 balls though.
  22. HG could sell their International SDF licenses, but then it would be up to Tatsunko to continue re-licensing to whomever. I don't see much a chance with Big West reacquiring the rights from Tatsunko though. To Big West and Tatsunko the Macross Rights fiasco is more an issue of pride then it is profits, and any amount of money that Big Wests could realistically offer probably wouldn't change Tatsunko minds.
  23. Dragonball Evoultion was like Shadow Chronicles, it was successly merely because it was such a cheap movie to produce and was able to profit from popularity of the franchise alone. As for Cowboy Bebop its getting a new rewritten script because apparently Fox doesn't like that the estimated cost to produce the current script is $500 million dollars, most of it is probably the cost of major Hollwood star backing.
  24. "She's the sort of girl who's always in fashion And her behind is the cutest one we know of Please look my way Honey!" Sounds like just the kind of girl for you Pete! BTW, in Robotech, her name would be Rick Rolled, because everyone would be expecting Zor! In other words we have Misa pulling an Apollo and suggesting that everyone would be better off going native on some planet and set the Megaroad on course with a sun in the middle of the galaxy. Then I assume Hikaru Ichijo turns out to be an angel or something and disappears into thin air leaving Misa and Minmay to become passionate lesbians, and we all know Misa will be the male in the relationship. Meanwhile Misa's baby is left neglicted to grow up into an angsty teenager to pilot a giant mecha someday. Fantastic! Where do I find this "Money for Robotech" fund? I could use a spot to dump all my counterfeit cash. I put Roy Fokker's face on all of them because all of presidential quotes in Robotech confused me. .
