If this is serious I'll throw in. I use all three browsers both at home and at work. I find Internet Explorer is generally functional in comparison to Google Chrome and Mozilla FireFox. Personally, I don't like IE simply because it's a Microsoft product and as such it suffers bloat, lags behind competitors and imposes "features" for the layman that hinder the above average end user. I will also say I find IE a problem on a professional level. My job is in software development, managing a team that provide technical support on contract for digital media delivery. Despite the majority of our customers using Chrome, Internet Explorer accounts for the majority of all technical problems we troubleshoot. Microsoft IE always seems to have a problem with HTML, or Javascript, or Flash, or Certificates, or Plug-Ins, or whatever that simply isn't an issue for Chrome or FireFox. The running joke for our front line support folks is; "Did you try another browser?"

Thor: The Dark World, in theaters Nov. 8, 2013
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Magneto is one of the best movie villains taken from the Marvel comics, but "Marvel Studios" doesn't currently have the X-Men property (it's held by 20th Century Fox currently as per licensing way back when the first film was made). So this article was a discussion only of the movie villains found in those films produced by Marvel Studios [iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013) and Thor: The Dark World (2013)].- 117 replies

Short interesting article that laments why the great villain list in the Marvel films currently begins and ends with Loki: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Loki-Good-Villain-Marvel-Movies-Big-Problem-40217.html Worth a read.- 117 replies

Berttt I am so sorry but I've no idea how I missed your thread back in 2008. Your work is fantastic! I mean wow...that Venator-Class Star Destroyer...dear gawd... ...um, now where was I? LOL! Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to your HWR-00 Destroid Monster Mk II model. I'm glad my website can help for reference. I hope the project goes quickly but if not believe me I understand; it's been 3 years since my last website update so I know the perils of daily life impacting time for hobbies For the next update of my website I have a brand new scan and a highly detailed re-coloring of the Destroid Monster. This new version is one of the marquee pieces in the next update so I don't want to spoil it before release, but I can post the scan itself - minus the colors - to help as reference for your very ambitious modeling project. I also have a new schematic of the Monster that will be released in the next update, but I'll post here for more reference. Let me know if you need anything to help make your project easier. I'm happy to help.

I love the scene and implementation. It looks great. A minor criticism would be the terrain is a too untouched (the SDF Macross series showed the crash as an almost nuclear-level crash which would devastate the surrounding terrain).

I was afraid people might have missed it. Yeah, that's it. That's it exactly

Wired has a great article on the Steam OS and Steam Machines following a visit to the Valve offices in Seattle. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/11/valve-steam-machines/ Not too much new, but some good aggregation of all the Steam news.

Well, like I said this is all just fan talk because as far as I know there has never been a definitive official missile count. So one guess is as good as another I suppose. I only prefer the 30 micro-missile figure because the coincidence of the kill count declared in the SDF Macross anime and the DYRL cutaway diagram matching seems a pretty solid theory taken together. I will say it doesn't make sense that the mecha of DYRL (circa 2030) would have fewer missiles than earlier variable fighters, but that's just me. Perhaps the new DeAgostini Macross Chronicle will provide some new figures.

Not to be a total film dork, but the phrase "full frontal nudity" is used to describe complete nudity where the genitalia are clearly visible. Thor: The Dark World definitely does not qualify Headshot!- 117 replies

I'm pretty sure we had a thread about this a long time back. I think it was generally agreed the VF-1J Super Valkyrie had 30 micro-missiles in total; 12 per each booster (24) plus 3 per ventral/arm packs (6) for 30 in total. In addition to the cutaway chart on my website, that count agrees with the anime as well, since Hikaru destroyed 30 Regulds with his VF-1 Super when it made it's debut, which is one Reguld per micro-missile. I'm unsure if there has ever been a definitive official word on the loadout, but I think 30 is about as accurate as you can get without.

Thor: The Dark World, in theaters Nov. 8, 2013
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just got back from watching and it was a pretty good film with laughs and action that was sufficiently entertaining for all its faults. Thor: The Dark World has guts for being just balls out crazy, embracing the silliness and the bizarre of the Thor mythos from the Marvel universe. There's plenty of action, lots of humor and the whole cast is written with enough substance so that each character has their moment even if that is only a small one. There are also some serious stakes in this film and the script does a good job of selling the dread and disaster wrought by the movie's simplistic villain. The production design is a lot of fun, from costumes, sets and props to the special effects design for space, ships and weapon effects. This feels like a $100 million movie and can be enjoyed as such. And like all the Marvel films, there are some nice little tips-of-the-hat to the other characters in the larger Marvel universe and a few story links to companion films. The post-credit sequence was also a real treat for comic book fans, especially if you read Silver Surfer in the 1990s. I did not enjoy Thor: The Dark World as much as a film than the first, but I know that on the internet I'll most certainly be in the minority with that opinion. The first film was just as silly and just as out there as this sequel, but the character stories were far superior in the original. So many have asked me with bewilderment why I preferred that first Thor film over all the other standalone Marvel movies at the time (Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man 3, etc) and the answer is always because of the superior character writing and the emotional currents made great in that film. Shades of those strong character arcs are still here in the sequel, but have mostly been left only to Hemsworth's Thor and Hiddleston's Loki. But as I said, I predict that the action junkie internet crowd will definitely praise this film far and above the first. Mores the pity. Lastly, I just have to say that I give these Thor films real props for being inclusive with the casting and writing. At the end of the day these are still stories about white guys being awesome, but I love how the Thor films traffic in variety and write their diverse characters with respect. In an industry where women, racial minorites and other marginalized groups are ignored or written as jokes/stereotypes, the Thor films feel quite respectful and progressive. Good on Marvel.- 117 replies

X-Men: Days of Future Past, in theaters May 23, 2014

If I recall this isn't the first time Zimmer has rolled his eyes about overexposure of his "Inception" score, but he has every right to do so. Of course, good film scores have been reused and abused before (like Horner's memorable work in "Aliens" being used for many a film trailer), but our modern film era has taken repetition of these musical cues to a ludicrous extreme.- 329 replies

Incredible trailer. The first film kicked the backside of almost every domestic action movie made in the last ten years. If this sequel is even half as good as the first film, we'll have another hit on our hands.

Not sure about the text itself, but these are described as 12 x medium-range high maneuverability missiles in the Macross Compendium for the VF-19 Custom. I would say the anime magic involved in fitting the missiles inside the legs of the VF-19 Custom is no more absurd than any of the other anime magic we've seen in Macross before or since.

Actually, just talking about the Steam Machine and PC made me realize something about my own personal game purchasing habits; I think the Steam Machine is going to be the death bell for me and consoles. I already despise console exclusives and the inefficiency of buying more than one gaming console pisses me off. This last console generation was so expensive, I bought my X-Box 360 used off a friend and purchased my Playstation 3 on sale, both of which I purchased 3-4 years past launch. Since I am buying a Steam Machine, there is no chance I will own all three and quickly dwindling incentive to own more than one console at all. So many of my PC purchases are already influenced by their availability on Steam, I imagine that is only going to increase once I own my Steam Machine. If it isn't on Steam, it should be because that's how I want it. I know I shouldn't think like that, but Steam is just so damned convenient, so user-friendly and they offer the best sales in the industry.

technoblue I agree that I cannot see the Steam Controller being any kind of replacement for mouse and keyboard, for which I remain convinced sits on the top of the controller food chain. However, I think you may be assuming too much of Valve by thinking the Steam Controller was ever intended to replace the mouse/keyboard combo for PCs. As far as I can tell, the Steam Controller's main purpose is to solve the problem of HMI for a PC in the living room. Valve knows - just as we all do - that a keyboard/mouse isn't going to fly on the couch. So if they want PC gaming in the living room, it has to use some kind of game controller. That's all. To be honest, the idea of buying a Steam Controller for my desktop PC never even occurred to me. Why? Because I use a gamepad on my PC for most of my indie games but when I purchase a Steam Machine, I don't see myself playing those games on my desktop PC anymore. The Steam Machine will grant me all the advantages of playing console games on a PC (resolution options, customized controls, etc) but all the convenience of a gamepad and my couch Basically, my conception of PC gaming post-Steam Machine looks like this: On my Steam Machine, I will play: Most of my old games, platformers and indies (Portal and Portal 2, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Limbo, Fez, Mark of the Ninja, etc) On my Personal Computer, I will play: Strategy Games and High-End 3D First-Person Shooters (DOTA 2, X-COM Enemy Unknown, Starcraft II, Far Cry 3, Battlefield 4, Bioshock: Infinite, etc) I have a hunch that I'm naturally going to play most of my communal co-op games and platformers on a Steam Machine. I see my desktop PC being the place I play all the personal and/or competitive games that you can't really play in pairs or a group. One of the best console experiences I've had this year was playing hotseat in The Last of Us with my roommate, so I can see myself doing that with similar types of games on the Steam Machine. I won't ever play games like X-COM or Battlefield 4 with anyone else in the room.

Now that's something quite different. IMO, there should be far more of these new paintings than there has been, especially for 45 issues (now 5 issues from the end of the original run of the MC). But I suppose now they will have much fewer choices but to feature new art for the remaining issues

I will say this about the controller; I have serious doubts it will ever be the instant gratification answer people are looking when PC gaming on a console. While everything I've seen of the controller leads me to believe it's going to be better than those silly analogy sticks we use on all our current devices, I suspect it's a compromise controller at best. I also think that we'll be required to endure a rather significant learning curve to make it work. I'm definitely mentally preparing myself for frustration and anger when using the controller at first, but I'm making a pact right now to put a real effort into learning and training with this controller before writing it off.
