Macross Frontier Episode 14 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's just my opinion of course, but I think we should all be capable of analyzing the Macross universe in situ without imposing the continuity problems of other franchises. They have no bearing on Macross. The Macross Franchise is also nowhere as prolific nor problematic as something like Trek. I understand it's helpful for some to make analogies, but when we're talking canon Macross, in my opinion we should unify, not fracture. Just because the Battle 25 isn't exhaustively featured in big animated sequences we fans shouldn't arbitrarily dismiss what was included, however briefly. The Battle 25 isn't some kitbash afterthought hastily slapped together. The CGI model is clearly highly detailed along with the rest of the Macross Frontier. I've seen fans in frenzy over some obscure unpublished concept art, lavishing it with attention disproportionate to the importance of the concept art itself. But should some minor background mecha/ship be included in an anime with anything less than an entire episode devoted to it, this creates a continuity problem? I really think we're scraping the bottom of the complaint barrel at this point. But that's just me. If the Battle 25 never sees action, we know why; as I said, Frontier is the Quarter's show. Macross 7 already allowed the NMC's to have their day in the sun. I'd like to see the Battle 25 in action as much as the next fan but should it sit this game out, I won't complain as long as the Macross Frontier anime is a winner. -

Uh, the Battle 25 exists. Those pictures clearly show it. Yes, it looks different, both because as far as we know each New Macross Class looks different from the others (Macross 5, Macross 7, Macross 13) and because it's the CGI model version of said class. Also, tactical displays shown in episode one clearly identify the Battle 25 section of the Macross 25/Frontier. It's there, just as it should be. Having said that, we all know why the Battle 25 hasn't been shown; because the Macross Quarter is the "Macross star" of the show. We might get to see the Battle 25 in action, but for the most part, screen time will be given to the Quarter and it will be given the glory. -

DarkReaper That's a great picture. Thanks. You can even see the gunship clearly. UN Spacy Not really. The Frontier is a colony fleet, not a combat fleet. They've been engaged in a war since episode one so unless there's some specific objective they've been tasked with, they'd best stay put. The last thing they want to do is fold into an unknown system to explore for possible colonization only to find one big Vajra fleet that's gonna stomp on them. Plus in war, logistics is probably now becoming a factor. The NUNG probably has halted many of their fleets and is likely redeploying the military into a state of war. -

The Battle 25 exists. It was clearly animated in CGI in the first episode and we've seen shots of it since, though typically far away or very brief. Can someone get a close shot of the Battle 25 during the flyby of Macross Frontier? EDIT DarkReaper has the picture I'm currently using on my website (taken from RC), but I was hoping for a closer shot. -
It was okay, but not really funny. I do like how they did the massacre. The effects and the editing weren't half bad.

eugimon and Master Dex Actually, there could have already been such a molten explosion come and gone. Core materials could have ejected from the exposure and shot out into space. But once vacuum and gravity took effect after the Dimension Eater energy diffused, Gallia 4 would experience a planet-wide temperature drop from the atmosphere losing a major portion and as the remaining atmosphere rushes into the now exposed deformation due to gravity. At the same time the outer edges of the deformation collapse inward under gravity, creating a massive continent-sized pit of debris. The ejecta also begins to decelerate due to gravity and begins forming a halo of material in orbit around the deformation, which the anime clearly shows. It's also possible the core itself could have been drained by the Dimension Eater. Once the dense material around the planet's core is removed so instantaneously, the exposed molten core literally explodes into the Dimension Eater, aided by the sucking effect of the anomaly. The core empties, creating a massive inward crushing of material from the remaining planet, creating a vast trough of debris, like we see in the anime. That was fun On a slightly OT issue... As for Bobby and his gayness, I suspect some can't find him believable since we've all been raised on stereotyped gays, women, asians, latinos, blacks, etc. Having said that, anyone who's watched The Wire can tell you Omar is the toughest, smartest, most manly villain television has seen in years and he just happens to be gay. Last proper male role model we had on TV was Malcolm Reynolds and they canceled Firefly -
It's a real advantage to feature hero Valkyries, because sometimes colors aren't enough. For years I didn't even notice Kakizaki's TV version VF-1A was supposed to be a different color scheme from the standard brown. Of course, part of overlooking that has to do with numerous coloring errors in the original SDF Macross series and my assumption the two Valkryies were meant to be the same but were colored wrong all the time. I enjoy the differentiation using hero Valkyries; it makes it some much more enjoyable to follow the action. My only complaint is when cannon fodder are denied a chance to shine. Were it not for Macross Plus (and an all-too-brief Protect Armor sequence in M7), the VF-11 Thunderbolt would have been a complete waste of design time. That's why I was so happy with the VF-171 getting all the love in episode 14. Gun pod kills, pin-point barrier punches and reaction warhead ownage; it was a real pleasure and they didn't even use a single cast character That's all I ask: abuse the Valkyrie as much as the story demands, but just give the valkyrie one episode of glory so I can always remember it at it's best.

To say Gallia 4 could have a far different internal composition than that of our own planet is an understatement. While the damage done to the planet from the Dimension Eater was considerable, Gallia 4 could very well have a small core or none at all, like some moons. We don't know the size, density, structure, rotation, or distance from Gallia 4's star to even begin dissecting what the planet would/should look like inside. That, and the fact that Macross is a long way from hard sci-fi -
Ah, good to know. I should make something for the M3 about that word. Maybe a demotivator poster. Now I'll know how to spell it. Thanks Messiah

I think it's impossible to watch any measure of Macross and not have this word burned into your brain. I bet it's the most often repeated word in all of Macross

Hehehe. An occupational hazard as a Macross fan

danth Definitely. I enjoyed the thread where Zinpsycho was one step away from being committed to a mental institution. manwiththemachinegun I agree. How many Zentradi ships did the SDF-1 Macross flatten before Earth got owned. I'd say there's plenty more Vajra action coming up. -

I wouldn't be surprised if Reaction Warhead technology and delivery has advanced just like everything else. The warheads could even be more destructive in a smaller package while as David has pointed out, the rocket itself could have been enlarged with more powerful propulsion. grss1982 I love that scene. Great GERWALK shot. It looks so butt kicking kalvasflam Welcome to last year Just kidding. But seriously, I did notice that immediately. Occupational hazard of owning a mecha fan site. Actually, the big VF-171 differences I noticed were in the transformation to Battroid mode. The forward tip of the nose in battroid mode folds rearward and I also noticed the guns on either side of the cockpit are recessed more in all modes and the upper torso center section extends a little further out to accommodate the longer nose. -
The point being made was they are all under the New United Nations flag. It's also obvious the Vajra aren't making a distinction Btw, I don't know who wrote that quote, but it's awful. I would lose that

I think it's ultimately more important that Kawamori and Co. advance the story rather than ensuring the audience have a perfectly accurate depiction of the battle from every unit's point of view on the battlefield. The first battle in episode 1 was meant to be desperate and filled with tension, something you don't get if the good guys are holding their own. In episode 14, the Vajra were meant to be shown in a whole new light and hence the NUNS/SMS are shown prepared, armed and ready for them. We start to see the Vajra as more than just mindless monsters and Ranka now knows it. Story-driven combat, not action-driven. That's the difference.

It's all good. You're among fellow fetishists of the fictional -
That's fair enough. And if my theory is ultimately correct, the same you've said of the Vajra would be true for the NUNS/SMS. Unless of course we consider the Macross Galaxy fleet and the actions of Grace and her cohorts as a human condoned institution, which would ultimately place blame squarely on the humans/zentradi of the New United Nations. So the parallels with Ender's Game aren't exact, but it's interesting to consider the possibilities. The only thing that bothers me about the Frontier story so far is how oblivious all the characters are. No one is doing any proactive investigation; no one is pressing for more information; hell, they aren't even conducting search and destroy missions at the very least. The NUNS and SMS are just largely waiting for everything to fall in their lap. But I suppose that's the limitations of the narrative, so I can't be too demanding

I got such a strong Sharon Apple-vibe from the projected image of Sheryl. It's not just the scan lines, but also twisted look on her face -
I always thought it was because she traded up for another trophy fly boy that unfortunately got "His brain's been sucked out!" Of course she'd go back to old willin'-n-desperate, until the next trophy comes along named...Charlie Sheen Well I was just answering the thread actually, with a facetious reply of course But seriously, it really depends on how you look at it. The characterizations might appear pure vs. promiscuous morality at first glance. But looking deeper could reveal the virtue of the characterizations. So many young girls are victims of the unattainable female ideal and too many boys obsess over the very same. Perhaps Ranka beating out Sheryl for Alto's affections (assuming that is how it plays) is a good lesson not because of the females sexuality, but in spite of it. Hikaru found what he was looking for in the less glamorous, more down-to-earth Misa rather than the feminine ideal he thought was Minmay. Alto may also reject the glamorous Sheryl in favour of the more real Ranka. All in all, not a bad pair of role models for a young audience to admire.
