Swa it last night. Wonderful film. If anything, even better than the first. Great performances all around, plenty of action, lot's of interesting dramatic scenes, some great script work...a big win all around.

Xeros Hehehe, indeed. Probably the smallest update yet I have a few animated gif submissions from whispo but I can't actually do them myself since I don't have any of the episodes downloaded. I'll make a small section for them in the next update. Mangled Mess I'm unsure about that one. I too have a feeling it might be a call sign. I might just remove it because it's an uncertainty. It's an easy fix either way. Chief Guld Goa Bowman Yeah, it was just some silly fun. It's like the regular VF-27 has a different head, but for now it's kinda cool to play with PS David H There's actually a few corrections I see I have to make. The real world fighters were tricky because each online source lists something totally different for a t-w ratio. I'd actually prefer a standard t-o weight for each real world fighter, in addition to empty and max. If you can help, I'd very much appreciate it. The problem comparing ratios comes with the statisitics; most fo the valkyries only feature an empty weight. The VF-1 is the rare exception. I'd much prefer standard t-o weight for every valkyire, but it appears either those statistics don't exist or haven't been translated. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. If you can help some more, don't be shy. I'd love to refine the chart as much as possible. I'm glad you like the Frontier section. I agree, it's nice to have the mecha material from all those scanned pages categorized and easily referenced d3v Oh yeah! Good catch. I'll fix this one later today. Dante74 lol Yeah, I've no idea how this one got by both me and you. It's funny how the mind works; we just input the missing letter without thinking, hehehe. But it's corrected now. So embarrassing Sulendil Ang Glad you like it. The Macropedia was long over due for revision and I'm really, REALLY happy with it now. It helps me keep a catalogue of everything in the Macross universe and makes an excellent jargon guide for the website. Best of all, the Macropedia is great for gathering all these little-known facts buried in some of the official literature and presenting them in a very easy to use reference guide. The Macropedia also makes a handy reference that's easy to cite during discussions and it can be corrected and revised as needed.

July 23, 2008 Minor Update Just a minor update to the Macross Mecha Manual, featuring only 14 new profiles. The update consists mainly of corrections and revisions. A portion of the existing artwork contains color errors that occur when a Photoshop PSD file is down-converted to a 256 color gif. I've corrected many of these color errors for the VF-1 Super variants, the VF-11C Protect Armor, the YF-19/VF-19A Excalibur artwork, and all the Queadluun-Rau (Film Version) pictures (both DYRL and Macross 7) feature a completely new line art scan and coloring. Many VF-1 profiles have minor color/shading improvements and the weapons/equipment pictures have been refined where needed. Significant new material is found in the For Fans Only section. A new Thrust-to-Weight Ratio Chart has been added (thanks to Dante74) providing a rough performance comparison of the variable fighters. A new subsection of For Fans Only appears for Animated Diagrams that highlight important details of the various valkyries. New and veteran Macross fans alike are encouraged to take a look at these animated pictures to appreciate the detail that goes into Shoji Kawamori's magnificent mechanical creations. The final addition is a complete revision of the Macropedia section with improved navigation and well over double the content. A man after my own heart -
Changes have been made. Make sure to "Refresh" to see them (both the Macross Plus index and the individual profiles). David I'm really unsure about the VF-0. I put phoenix and then added a note, but I'm not sure where "zero" stands. Hopefully the Macross Chronicle will clear it up.

Macross Quarter concept prototype for Meltran Gunboat refit?
Mr March replied to RedWolf's topic in Movies and TV Series
No. Like I said, it's just opinion/theory, but it makes sense, at least to me. I must be in the minority though To my mind, Island 1 and the other Islands wouldn't have pin-point barriers, full barriers, or repulsion fields on their own like combat warships. City 7 had it's own power for it's needs but not much else and could only fold to short ranges. I would think the Battle 25 and it's powerful reactors would be needed to power any substantial energy field around the fleet. I really don't think City/Island ships would be designed for something like that, but I could be wrong. I kinda of look at it this way; if the Battle 25 wasn't needed for power the repulsion field and was ready to fight, what operational role would the Macross Quarter fulfill and why even bother having one? Yes, it's smaller and more maneuverable, but it seems the whole point of the Quarter is to fire the big beam gun. The Battle 25 does that and is likely more powerful. And reaction weapons are there to fulfill the anti-ship role, as well as the rest of the combat warship fleet of Stealth Frigates, Guantanamo Stealth Carriers and Uraga Esort Battle Carriers. I just don't see the need for two Macross ships, unless one Macross ship is fulfilling a role the other can't. -
Oh, I see Well, it's an easy fix. What I'll do is remove the designations and instead place them inside the profiles under "Unofficial Codenames" like I did for a bunch of the other Valkyries (like "Booby Duck", "Blazer Valkyrie" etc). That's probably a more appropriate place for them, as you say.

Macross Quarter concept prototype for Meltran Gunboat refit?
Mr March replied to RedWolf's topic in Movies and TV Series
IMO, the Macross Quarter is not a refit and it's not a test bed since it's assigned to active duty. But I can see the design similarities between the Quarter and the Meltran Gunboat. My theory is the Macross Quarter is fullfilling the role of a combat Macross ship no longer performed by the Battle 25. The Battle 25 is overburdened by the need to power the repulsion field for the Huge Island one and the dozens of other Islands, something it was likely never designed to do when the class was first built some 30 years ago. So the Macross Quarter may have been built to fulfill the operational role of a fighting Macross vessel, but in a much smaller, more efficient ship given the Macross Quarter's much narrower combat-only role. -
I thought Eagle One was a callsign. Strange. Anyway, I can certainly include it without too much trouble.

"You are the brute squad" Not a bad theory. I suppose it makes sense. Based on their encounters Alto and Brera seem pretty close in skill, with the latest round going to Brera. I guess this puts Birla in a more positive light. He sure seemed rather villainous and ominous in the beginning, but I suppose that was the intent of the creative team to keep us guessing. -
The VF-11 Thunderbolt was in service for at least 16 years (2030-2046). If the VF-19 Excalibur and VF-22 Sturmvogel II were finally mass produced in 2046, that's only 13 years to 2059. The VF-19/VF-22 were also very advanced designs, so they'd likely have a longer service life than most other valkyries. Anyway, back on topic, I chose the YF-19, though I could have easily picked the VF-19A Excalibur since the two are identical save for some minor weapon/engine differences. The original design still looks the best. I really dislike most of the changes they made in the VF-19 F/S/Custom series, except the head units and the colors for the F variant.

I'm definitely getting the same vibe when I watch that episode. I think Grace and her cohorts were anticipating the VF-27 would juggernaught over the VF-171 and the VF-25 (based on espionage of the YF-24). It also appears that not just the VF-25, but generally speaking I think the SMS has been underestimated by the Galaxy conspirators. Grace and Co. obviously know well of the NUNS and their weaknesses, but I think the SMS is a wild card. Which begs the question: how much does Sir Richard Branson...er, I mean Richard Birla know about the the Grace/Galaxy conspiracy? If he knows plenty, why didn't he let anyone else know? Perhaps he suspected the Galaxy/NUNS collusion that's going on right now, between Grace and Leon? Perhaps Birla felt that if he were to let anyone know, he might bring attention upon himself and his company before he was ready to move his resources into play? That might explain a lot and why the Grace/Galaxy conspiracy didn't expect Birla and his SMS company to play such a big factor. -

So it appears Grace is some kind of multiple-entity, but was born on Gallia 4 suggesting she wasn't always this ephemeral being but once was human. Still not sure the nature or purpose of this cyberspace cabal, but I guess we're being fed only enough until the plot reveals more. Grace is also messing with Sheryl's blood analysis, suggesting she's hiding something about Sheryl. But it appears whatever her purpose, she's had enough of Sheryl and is now onto a plan to manipulate Ranka. If Grace is to be believed it appears cybernetics is not the exception, but the rule. She seems to imply the Macross Frontier fleet is some kind of colony that is sans-cybernetics and that such a thing is an oddity. This is certainly a 180 turn from the way the UNG policy was portrayed in Macross Plus, but I suppose a lot can change in almost two decades. It's also interesting that now the SMS is clearly being portrayed as a wild card, something not intricate to the plans of Grace and her cohorts. Looks like Grace and Co. were counting on the New UN Spacy to remain relatively ineffective and based on the SMS's YF-24 design, they figured the VF-27 would steamroll over any opposition. But it looks like the SMS, their ships and especially the VF-25 has proven to be a stumbling block for the Macross Galaxy forces. So Leon Mishima is pulling even more strings behind the scenes than I thought. Looks like Brera is getting away with his actions in previous episodes due to his involvement with Leon and Grace. Those two certainly get around. I still think the Leon isn't as aware of how far gone things are. He is definitely much more influential than I originally thought, but he still doesn't appear to be doing anything that isn't being orchestrated by Grace and her cohorts. Well, just have to watch more I suppose. -
