  1. Oh, they are not THAT bad. Klan's ears aren't flag poles ala Lodoss War. Basically, the difference pre-and-post Macross Frontier just boils down to character design/art style. The designers probably just wanted a quick and easy way for the audience to visually distinguish the Zentradi from the humans.
  2. Well, they've managed to stretch the VF-1 out over 10 issues so far. There's no telling how far this can go
  3. They look really pointy to me
  4. Thank you. The website is updated infrequently, averaging about 5 times a year. Updates are a little slower now since most of the franchise has been covered, new information is slow to appear and I'm a more busy with real life You can see the chronology of the M3 in the "Updates" section of the site. Next update is coming soon, within the next week. There will be only a handful of new mechanical profiles, but there will be lots of revisions/corrections/improvements. There will also be some new Macropedia Entries and new Size Comparison Charts. Lastly, there will be site-wide additions of new material added to almost all the Valkyrie profiles, such as new Color Code Transformation Guides and new Schematic Diagrams.
  5. Here's some pineapple cake. Is that subtle enough? *evil grin*
  6. This guy is an anime fan/Robotech fan who is only now discovering Macross? This is the internet (and geekdom)! You'd couldn't go three clicks without some sensitive, knee-jerking Macross/Robotech fan ramming the difference down your throat with all the social grace of the worst basement dwelling shut in. Seriously, every major anime and non-anime information website has spelled out the difference for years. AnimeNewsNetwork, Animenation's Ask John, AnimeonDVD (or whatever it is now), Wikipedia, "Macross" World, Robotech.com, etc. I mean, who is left of the people that actually care that doesn't know the difference by now? I don't post quotes in my signature, but if I did, this quote above would be the winner. Bloody brilliant
  7. The Zentradi ears became somewhat pointed in the movie DYRL? (1984). Since then, the pointed ear Zentradi have been adopted for the Macross sequels, most notably Guld in Macross Plus and various characters, Zentradi or otherwise, in Macross 7 and it's sequels. Some have argued the Zentradi's ears became more prominent in Macross Frontier. Not sure if that's true, but we're talking perception here which changes from person to person. I think a lot of it stems from the fact that many fans who know Macross haven't seen Macross DYRL or Macross 7 because it's not been licensed. So they remember Macross from their early years and then got back into it via Macross Frontier on the internet. These fans likely missed most of the Macross sequels (or may have seen them, but aren't nearly as familiar with them as the original) so to them, the new "ears" in Macross Frontier looks like a major design leap from SDF Macross.
  8. You're welcome, I think
  9. The Megaroad-01 was never given any official length, so the 5,000 meter figure is simply fan conjecture based on the best available scale evidence at the time. If the 1,600 meter figure is correct, it is kinda unfortunate that one piece of line art has lead us to suspect a much larger size for so long. But I guess there's no use complaining about a lack of information now. The new 1,600 meter figure provided in the Macross Chronicle is without any precedent, BUT it does make some sense since the SDF-02 was originally designed to be 1,620 meters long and the Megaroad-01 was built from the unfinished hull of the SDF-2 project. Ultimately, I'd say we go with the Chronicle figure if for no other reason than it's the only official size that's ever been given to us.
  10. I hate keeping track of these things. I always just want the release with the metal case. Are they doing one of those for The Dark Knight?
  11. 400 guys working 30 minutes? Hmmm, a crew of 120,000 mechanics for 300 Valkyries. Sounds like a logistics nightmare and no elbow room around that poor valkyrie
  12. Pretty good for old work. How old are these models and what kind of source material did you have when you built them?
  13. Well, that's a whole other issue entirely. And really, variable fighter service turnaround is quite low on the list of things in Macross that wouldn't work in reality
  14. I hope the new content and overhaul to the site goes well. It's definitely overdue. Thanks to both you and Graham for MW. It's been a great way to connect with fans.
  15. One to two weeks on the ground for each hour of flight time? I very much doubt that. Several hundred hours turnaround would make the variable fighters completely impractical for any kind of main line service role.
  16. One thing I really disliked about Macross Zero was how everything looked "tiny" and felt "small". Many times during the series the CGI gave the impression the vehicles were toys or bad model kits on strings. It felt like someone had a camera on a dolly than was rolling through their diorama (thinks back to the awful camera shot that rolls back through the interior "hangar bay" of the Asuka: ugh!) But with Macross Frontier, everything felt huge. Each mecha had weight and scale. They appeared and felt as big as they were supposed to be. And all of it was done with less. Smaller budget, fewer polygons, less effects. Frontier was just outright impressive for CGI work. Definitely a high benchmark for aesthetically adept CGI flawlessly merged with traditional cel animation.
  17. HAHAHAHAAH! I must have missed that one. That is brilliant! The music and the ending is perfect. That was a great laugh. Thanks lb
  18. Nothing is being confused. The thrust-to-weight ratio changes the moment any weight is added, including fuel, Super Packs or Armor parts. As for data, none exists. What is being mistaken is the idea that super g-suits exist in the Macross universe, despite a total lack of any evidence of such technologies until the ISC/EX-Gear system came around (with the aforementioned VF-15 exception). Dismiss dialog at your own error. Lastly, this was never a combat performance debate, ever, so my interpretation of your posts stands. Lastly, any 1% exception to the rule is the same argument that made no sense in the two-seater VF-25 debate. Why would the NUNS/SMS spend millions on 60g rated g-suits if 99% of pilots gain nothing from them? The answer is they wouldn't, if such fan-made suits even existed, which they don't.
  19. Mostly it's the internet. There are no social/interpersonal consequences when interacting online. You can say the most hateful, insulting things to other people and act in a way you never would in real life without any of the consequences. Even something as simple as a difference of opinion over an animated television show can be blown up into the online equivalent of a UFC match
  20. edwin Perhaps because the VF-25 is much lighter than previous Valkyrie generations? It certainly tracks, since (evidence) the VF-25 Full Armor is stated to be just as fast and maneuverable as a standard VF-25. The VF-25 also happens to be (evidence) over a ton lighter than the VF-22 and even slightly lighter than the VF-19. Which means the VF-25 doesn't need as high a g-limit to sustain the same acceleration, whereas the VF-22 would. ChronoReverse's statement does hold water precisely because it's no "theory"; its the laws of physics, which directly contrasts with super Gulds, super g-suits, demanding g-limit must = pilot endurance (this particular point actually flies in the face Kawamori's story in Macross Plus). None of this comes from the anime or trivia, it's all fan-invented to support a theory which does not unify the known facts nor all the Macross series. Like Graham has said, if g-suits rated at 60gs existed in Macross 7, there's no need at all for an ICS/EX Gear system in Macross Frontier. This throws out the entire chronological progression of Macross technology; and for what reason? To support a theory that isn't internally consistent? I'm going to call foul on that. There is evidence to the contrary; dialog which I directly quoted from Guld. Besides, it's not my place to disprove whatever theories are blasted at me shotgun style. I've successfully defended my interpretation and backed it up with both direct quotes from the anime and official figures from the Macross trivia. Which is why I remain unconvinced of the alternate interpretations of g-limits presented in this thread so far. As an aside, I understand where you're coming from so don't assume we're all missing your point. You don't like it when people assume newer means better. But I'm not defending my interpretation of g-limits on that basis; I'm defending my interpretation on the basis that it makes more sense and is far more unified with all of Macross. And for the sake of argument, even if we did all have such a bias, that alone doesn't mean we're wrong (very important distinction). But as I said, at least in my case, your distaste for newer must = better actually has no bearing on me (quite the contrary, particularly if you read any of my comments on Macross Frontier technology posted during the series run)
  21. Somethings missing alright I'm with Chrono on this one and remain unconvinced. Super Gulds, quoting what we don't know rather than what we do and g-suits rated at 60g make no sense, follow no logical consistency, follow no progressive chronology and fail to unify the events of Macross. Basara didn't even use a suit On the issue of g-load, as Chrono has pointed out, a greater tolerance is required to maintain structural strength with a heavier load under the same acceleration. So obviously there is a significant reason for g-limits beyond the pilot's tolerance. Oh trust me, your numbers are weird
  22. I would think so. I can understand why Kawamori decided to go with the ISC, because there really is no way to get around the inherent limitations of the human body. The only other alternative was cybernetics (Brera) or genetic manipulation, in which case Macross starts becoming something else entirely, with pilots sprouting more muscles than the human body has (perish the thought!). Fist of the Macross?
  23. That goes without saying, but one ins't going to get more than a few gs out of a suit (this is excluding the VF-15 biological anti-G boost system, the absence of which obviously means it wasn't a technology worth pursuing beyond that one valkyrie). Ultimately the pilot has been the limiting factor in all variable fighters, a theme which Kawamori focused upon with Macross Plus and Macross 7. It's clear with Macross Frontier, Kawamori has removed that limitation and the VF-25 Messiah/VF-27 Lucifer are a step beyond.
  24. Every fandom nitpicks and argues loudly. But it appears some just get more press than others. Perhaps that's a point in favour of Macross fandom. MW get's badmouthed, but that's about it. Besides, I'd rather build the Macross Mecha Manual than altoisnotminmay.com
  25. The YF-19 was originally supposed to be fitted with 56,500kg engines, but for whatever reason was fitted with less powerful 42,700kg engines. When the YF-19 was approved for mass production, the first mass produced model, the VF-19A Excalibur, was able to be fitted with the original 56,500kg engines. The VF-19 Custom and the VF-19P from Macross 7 were also fitted with the mass production 56,500kg engines. As the VF-19 Excalibur line continued mass production, numerous variants were built that continued to improve the engines, like the 72,500kg engines of the VF-19F Excalibur and the 78,950kg engines of the VF-19S Excalibur. I believe this trivia came from one of the VF-X games, which as far as I've been told, is considered canon (or at the very least official trivia) according to the Macross Compendium. Regardless, the Macross 7 trivia confirms the 56,500kg engines for the VF-19 Custom and VF-19P Excalibur, so I think it's safe to embrace these figures.
