there was only the cheapest one looks like, which I'm sure wouldn't work out very well.

baby crab update day??? -
Kurisama --- I went to Shapeways to look into ordering the Arm Weapon for my 19F, but it's looks to be no longer offered in the higher grade printing materials...any input on that? I wanted the highest grade possible for the details.

Haha, no...i was tyring out my homemade decals on something old with lots of surface details, and also experimenting around with Micro-Sol VS Micro-Set when used with Future.

I thought the 8C was better looking than the Disco Volante version personally. Jeremy said it wasn't a good car overall though.

I have only dipped my toe into this a couple of times. It's tricky to say the least. I bought a pack of Testors decal paper $10, and a can of Testors decal bonded spray from Hobby Lobby. I make the text I want in Microsoft Word, and try SEVERAL test prints on normal paper first to assure the print goes into the right area of the paper as the decal sheets are only about 5x7. There's probably better bigger sheets made by other companies, I just haven't checked. After you do a successful test print, send the decal sheet through the printer. I use my Canon Inkjet printer. There is decal paper for laser printers which I'm sure is the way to go if you have a laser printer. Then spray the binder spray over the sheet a couple of times and let dry for at least a day. After that you cut out the decal with an Xcto blade and QUICKLY dip, and I'm talkin like 1 second, in warm water and wait about 30 seconds then slide onto the model. I have only done this on FLAT surfaces and I haven't yet tried any color other than black. My advice...practice A LOT, before you do it for real. -
That's exactly right. Simply poke microscopic holes in it with a new blade tip and brush paint over it with a few heavy coats of Future. Little "press and roll" over the decal with a Qtip might help things along. And yes, looking back, I airbrushed my Future on, so I don't think I got enough on the gun barrels. however...today I learned brushing it on by hand I kinda like waaay better. Thicker coat goes on with a brush and for me the application is more controllable on larger flat areas and especially round parts!

Well, this morning I tried about 50 pinpricks with a new #11 Xacto blade and then brush painted on future while rolling a Tamiya mini pointy Qtip over the decal between coats of future. I'm gonna go with....not absolute perfection...but a heck of a lot better than it was!!! I'm going to go with my problem was not waiting long enough for the future to set up. Apparently the going consensus around the scale modeling forums is 48 hrs. Several people have had clouding issues with Micro-Sol as I did. Oh well, onwards! Couple of additional pics included.
-
Oddly, yes. I completely coated the entire model with many coats of Future and let it dry 24 hrs before trying decals. Weird. Well...I've been doing some reading on other modeling forums and have a couple of things to try. I should have just not used Micro-Sol at all. All the surfaces are smooth on this kit, I was just going to put some on the gun decals as they are round. Bad call I guess. The rest of the decals going on the kit look great, including my homemade UN SPACY's. Thanks for the info Chang!

Soooo.....decaling was going great today....then I learned that apparently Future and Micro-Sol don't play nicely together ...WTF??? ..... any ideas about how to fix this cloudy nightmare?
-
Good progress today in Monsterland!! All painting done! Future applied and I printed up some extra water slide decals for the arms...whatta you guys think...smaller or larger UN SPACY???

Nice! I heard/saw my first harrier back in the day at an air show with my dad. It was hovering and is still pretty much the loudest thing I've ever heard! Ohh we're going weathered on the Monster me thinks.

I bought the Paasche medium size one that "folds up" for storage a few years back. I have it out on my garage workbench and never move it. It's ok, but the price was kinda steep for what it is. All things being equal, I wouldn't buy it again. I would get a larger more industrial unit or build my own. -
aaaaand....now we have a green Monster! However....with the announcement of the Bandai Hi Metal 1:100ish scale Monster coming out...honestly I'm starting to wonder if this model will have been worth my time and effort!

Sunny and 70 today! Yup! We're at the paint bench down here in Tejas! Hopefully last primering of Mr. Monster before some paint later today or this week and direct sunlight spoon color test of orange and dark green for King Crabulon
