Not for me, it's a VF-1 and I've owned too many of those over the last 33 years. Kinda bored with The VF-1. I'll save my money for the new VF-31 instead.

It's much thicker than the YF-30's arm shield and located right next to the arm guns, which leads me to think it's a magazine. If not then the arm guns must have a really low ammo capacity.

I'm guessing that slab-like part on the side of the forearm may well be the ammo magazine for the arm gun. Certainly seems thick enough.

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Graham replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
Just to clarify, Macross for me has always been one of those rare animes where everything has gelled perfectly....., the mecha, the combat scenes, the music, the characters and the story, to present a whole that is greater than the individual parts. However, my main love has always been the mecha, the fight scenes and the music in that order, with everything else such as characters and story being less important. So far only the mecha kinda 50% impresses me about Delta, nothing else.- 2715 replies

But what YOU have to understand is that:(A) Most of us fans outside of Japan understand less than ten words of spoken Japanese. (B) Most of us only watched the trailer, not the lead up live stream (which we were told would be blocked outside of Japan), or if we did, we didn't understand a damn word of it anyway. Again, just to reiterate, the majority of us fans living outside of Japan don't speak or understand Japanese, so we are mostly going on the visual impressions we got from watching the trailer only. So, yes, we are extremely grateful for any clarification from those members that are fluent in Japanese and did have the luxury to be able to watch the full Japanese live stream. But at the same time, less high horse attitude would be appreciated also! We are not all so lucky to live in Japan and to be be able to understand the language. Please understand that most of us are like blind man groping in the dark for any understanding of the new series.- 2715 replies

I wonder if they took the weapon pod off the display Battroid, to hide the fact that it is actually a Sound Booster.......Hahaha Listen to my song!

I'm a bit disappointed that the translation of the official site spec says the arm cannons are shell firing, not beam guns. Now I've nothing against shell firing cannons, in fact I personally think they are cooler than beam weapons. But in the context of Macross weapons technology development, this seems to be a technological step backwards to go back to using shell firing cannons, as for the VF-27, YF-29 and YF-30, reliable rapid fire beam-gunpods had beam developed and replaced standard shell firing gunpods. Also, on the VF-31, the arm guns are only single barrel, so will have a slower rate of fire than multi-barrel gunpods, this reducing their effectiveness in fast moving aerial combat. Secondly, as seen from the attached picture, the arm gun pods are pretty small and this will lack space to carry much ammunition, so will run dry quickly.

Well, according to Sketchley's translation of the official page, the armaments are: Armaments Head Laser 2 Gun Pods built into forearms (shell firing) 6 micro-missile launchers (3 per leg) 4 wing hardpoints (2 per wing)

No, no, no, it doesn't work like that. Nearly every part of the VF-19 Kai is completely different to the YF-19, so much so that about 98% new molds are needed.

No, not surprised at all, they have been working on it for ages already. In fact if anything I feel they are late......haha.Anyway, hope this is not gonna be a battle of the bands, reality show, sing-off/fly-off, where they shoot at each other with non-lethal laser-tag guns and paint missiles.......urghhh- 2715 replies

Not really digging the forearm guns on the VF-31. If they are shell firing cannons, then with only a single barrel the rate of fire would be lower than a multi-barrelled gunpod and also looking quite small and being located on the arms, the ammo capacity would likely be very low as there is not much space to hold ammo. However, I suspect they are beam guns, given the recent trend with the VF-27, YF-29 and VF-30 to use rapid fire beam-gunpods. But unless there has been a rapid advance in beamgun technology since Frontier & Macross 30, then there is no way they will be as powerful as a full size beam-gunpod used on the VF-27/YF-29/YF-30. To me they look only slightly larger than the hip/wing-root beamguns the VF-25 has as secondary weapons. I'm a traditionalist, I like my VFs to have gunpods, whether they be shell firing or beamguns. Yep, definitely forearm guns. As I posted in the other thread, I guess they rotate 180° along the forearms, so that they can point forward in fighter mode.

I'm guessing the VF-31's forearm guns can rotate 180° on the forearm, so they can point forward both in Battroid and Fighter modes. Anyway as well as the mystery back mounted weapon pod(s), the VF-31 seems pretty well armed. Not for me. Frontier taller gave me chills, Delta's trailer, is just meh for me.- 2715 replies

Ha, so I called it right previously on the blue (not red) color for the SV-262. No gunpod for the VF-30 But are those long barreled forearm guns I see? Anyway, while the VFs looks good, not really liking what I'm seeing of the characters or setting......urghhhh Graham- 2715 replies

Hope it's NOT "Masterpiece", don't want the Yamato legacy tarnished with a Toynami name.....yuck. I'm guessing " Mass Production". Although from what I remember from the admittedly non-canon Master Files, there was only a very small amount of VF-1J actually produced. Graham
