  1. Actually, holographic Heads Up Displays (HUDs) have existed in VFs since the Block 6 cockpit design of the VF-1 shown in DYRL, where targeting and other data is holographically projected inside and all around the canopy. Only the VF-0 and the block 5 (TV type) VF-1 use a conventional glass HUD. Another example of the holographic HUD is clearly seen in the VF-11B's cockpit in the opening fight of episode # 1 of Macross Plus, when the position of the missiles fired by the renegade Powered suit is shown projected inside Isamu's canopy. Assuming Sharon Apple could at least partially hack into the YF-19's systems, it would probably be simple for her to take control of the YF-19's holographic HUD projector and project her image inside the YF-19's cockpit. 2. Most later gunpoads can be reloaded by spare magazines carried on the Valk. Examples are: - VF-11- 2 spare magazines carried under the shield. VF-17 - Can carry 1 spare magazine in the left leg, although normally a beam-gun adaptor is carried instead. YF-19 & VF-19 - 1 or 2 spare magazines (I forget which) stored under the shield. The YF-21 & VF-22 carries two gunpods rather than carrying any spare magazines. As for why the VF-0's gunpod can be reloaded in the field and the VF-1's gunpod can't is probably beacuse the VF-0 is an advanced testbed design with a lot of features that the VF-1 series does not have. 3. Actually, according to the Macross Compendium, the VF-0's GPU-9 35mm gunpod can be reloaded in the field as unlike the VF-1's GU-11 gunpod, spare magazines can be carried in the VF-0's leg-mounted FAST Packs. The Compendium has the following to say about the VF-0's armament: - "ARMAMENT: One (VF-OA/D) or two (VF-0S) fixed Mauler laser cannons. One standard Howard GPU-9 35 mm gatling gun pod with 550 rounds (AHEAD rounds available). Maximum of twelve standard Raytheon Bifors AIM-200A AMRAAM 2 I/ALH-guided medium-range air-to-air missiles mounted on four hard points, each with a three-missile rack. Option of reactive armor parts or two atmospheric combat super parts (micro-missile launcher/conformal tanks with twenty-four Raytheon Erlikon GH-30B I/IR-guided micro-missiles each) mounted on leg/engine pods. The super part is also capable of storing spare magazine for the gun pod. Maximum payload of the VF-0D variant is 20% greater than the VF-0A/S variants. Capable of mounting most former United States/NATO standard aviation weaponry". However, in episode # 3 of Macross Zero, when Roy has the Reactive Armor shot off by Ivanov, we can see that his VF-0S does not have the leg FAST Packs fitted, unlike in episode # 1 & 2. So yes, I agree that Roy's gunpod was probably empty by the end of his battle with Ivanov in episode # 3 and he had no spare ammo remaining and needed to obtain either a fresh gunpod or spare ammo. 4. I left it out on purpose, as I think it's a really boring color scheme I did forget the following though: - SDF-1 DYRL Type SDF-1 TV Type VF-5000B FP VA-3M VF-4 SW-XA1 (Don't like the SW-XAII tho) And still waiting for the kid. He's being lazy and doesn't want to come out yet . If he hasn't been born by Saturday June 12, the hospital will induce labor. Graham
  5. There are several levels of pricing mark-up from the time a toy ships from the manufacturer's warehouse, travels to the distributor then perhaps to a wholesaler then reaches a retail store. Just because a 1/48 retails for ¥14,800 does not mean that Yamato makes ¥14,800 on each toy. From what I understand in the Japanese toy business, most manufacturers only get something like 25% of the retail price. Graham
  6. Wow, that's some impressive work. Graham
  7. As you said, switching the heads is just a case of removing one screw at the base of the neck. However, fitting the FAST Packs to the Hikaru VF-1A body will not be easy, as the first generation 1/60 VF-1A Hikaru body does not have the necessary holes on the legs, backback and arms for attaching the FAST packs. So lots of careful drilling and filing will be required. In the end, it would probably just be easier to repaint a 1/60 Focker VF-1S. Graham

  9. See this picture from the Winter Wonder Festival 2004. It's of a very difficult to find resin conversion kit for the Hasegawa YF-19, which AFAIK, consists of new wings with the pylons and High maneouverability missiles. Graham
  10. That's not really a good example, as Bandai already owns the tooling for the old HCMs, so there are no design or tooling expenses (tooling is a major cost). It's basically just material and labor cost. Graham
  11. It's the final boss baddie from the Dreamcast Macross M3 game released in 2001. The Macross Compendium has the following to say about it: - "Zentradi final weapon with two different combining mecha modes depending on ending". It's one of the hardest Macross mecha to find pictures or information on. I buy a lot of Japanese hobby and gaming mags and this is the first time I have ever seen that picture. So props to WJ for making it available. Graham
  12. Actually, I don't touch the model section. Models are Shawn's baby. These days as well as writing the toy reviews, I'm also mostly responsible for updating the toy and magazine sections of Macrossworld as well as updating the updates page . As Shawn is very busy with work these days, there are other sections of the site that I'm also planing to update such as the book section, game section and video section as all missing many recent Macross items. Graham
  13. Do you mean Gilliam? If so he'd have to be pretty young there, as VFX-2 takes place over 40 years later. Do you have a picture of him? Just to add, Gilliam was not a traitor. Graham
  14. No, not Yamato. That's the old Studio Half Eye 1/100 scale YF-19 perfect-variable resin garage kit. Graham
  15. If there is a connection between Dragon and Hasegawa, wouldn't it be great if Dragon started making diecast, prepainted 1/72 scale versions of Hasegawa's Macross kits Just imagine diecast 1/72 scale VF-0S, SV-51, YF-19, YF-21 etc fighters. Graham
  16. Giant contact lenses Or perhaps the macronization process corrects genetic defects. Graham
  17. Yes, it's called Octos, although I've also seen it spelt with a double 's' (Octoss). The underwater mecha that Shin fought with and the mecha that assaulted the beach are one and the same (it's transformable). Graham
  18. What, you mean it's NOT real? Graham
  19. There is only one more episode to come as it's 5 episodes total. No firm date has been given for episode # 5 yet, but based on the length of time between release of the previous episodes, most people think it will be released in November 2004. Graham

Gonna try and get a longer review with photos up at the weekend. It won't be a very complementary review though The more I handle this toy, the more convinced I am that the person responsible for approving this POS for production (Yes, you know who you are if you are reading this) should be taken out behind Yamato's office and be soundly flogged. While the overall sculpt is nice and the plastic used is good quality, the constantly falling off front groin peice and inadequate hip joint connection should never, ever have made it into production. These days, since the bar has been raised so high with the 1/48, this kind of sloppiness is just unacceptable. Graham
  22. Toynami 1/55 (MPC): 1pc (it was a gift, I didn't buy it) Bandai 1/55: 11pcs. Bandai 1/65: 15pcs. Bandai 1/72 (HCM): 3pcs. Bandai 1/100: 1pc. Takatoku 1/55: 1pc. Yamato 1/60: 20pcs. Yamato 1/48: 17pcs. Yamato 1/72: 18pcs. Joons 1/55: 1pc. Doyusha: 7pcs. Used to have more Takatokus and Bandais but sold them on ebay to raise money. Sorta regreting it now Graham

    Yammies per user

I've bought and sold loads of Valks since Yamato first started making them 4 years ago, so it's difficult keeping track of what I've owned. Anyway, I think my present total for my personal collection is: - 1/48 = 17pcs 1/60 = 20pcs. 1/72 = 18pcs. Graham
  24. I'd like an Alpha if somebody can pick me up one. Graham
  25. I agree, that looks like the finished product. It's definitely plastic, not resin. Those stickers don't look too bad IMO. Graham
