  1. Wasn't there supposed to be a 1/48 scale VF-25 model coming out or is that dead? I haven't heard anything of it since an early sculpt was first shown.
  2. Where do you see the VB-2 designation? Where ever it shows, it's likely a typo. This is clearly the VB-6 featured in Frontier. I know there's a VAB-2, but that's a different looking variable bomber altogether. I assume this thing is also 1/100 scale. It looks more poseable than the Yamato one. Having the markings pre-painted is a big plus. If this came out, I'd probably retire my Yamato VB-6 as that thing is a floppy mess that can't even keep the arms up. The only thing I like about the Yamato better is it seems like the cannons and arms are a tad longer. I hope the shuttle mode is vastly improved over the Yamato version as that just looked pretty bad. Edit: nvm, I see the pic where it shows VB-2. I think it's just a lazy copy and paste from the VF-25 above and they probably just removed the 5 and modified the F into a B but forgot to change the 2.
  3. I think the off-white is just the result of white balancing issues with the photos. The entire photo has a yellowish tint to it.
  4. I hope that's just a test version. The way it is on Yamato's site is how it should be colored.
  5. Nice. That was a good idea using paper clips to provide support for extra shelves.
  6. No kidding. One of the earliest concepts of Basara's ride was actually a customized VF-11 that looked like it belonged in KISS. For the MAXL, the Design Works book shows some early designs that don't resemble a VF-11 in the slightest. And one of the early battroid designs makes it look more like a fairy along with hair on the head. The valk with boobs concept wasn't in the earliest sketches for the MAXL.
  7. I only used the promodeller wash for the panel lining. I don't feel it's good for much else as I haven't gotten very good results with it for actual weathering effects, especially since the plastic is so smooth. The clearest example of where I used the promodeller wash that's visible in the pics is the head using the dark dirt to bring out the details and the light dirt for white-ish/light gray lines on the carrier deck. It's not an enamel wash. All it really has is clay particles for the dirt and some sort of liquid that doesn't really smell and seems to be fairly inert. It doesn't have any effect on the plastic or the paint as far as I can tell. I think the liquid also has too much surface tension for what it is used for as it doesn't really have a good capillary effect. Perhaps adding some liquid dish washing soap would help. I used the tamiya weathering kits for the actual weathering. I may end up sealing it with a flat coat, but I haven't yet. I don't handle it too much so it's not that big a deal.
  8. I was browsing around the amiami site and noticed they had some larger pics of the tornado packs with the markings all printed on. Still not a fan of the tornado packs and less so of the DX attempt at the VF-25, but still, it looks a lot better to me than it did before it had all the stuff printed on. On a side note, I take it that Bandai didn't have a showing at the most recent wonderfest? Just wondering what they have next in line with the VF-27 and Alto's VF-25+tornado looming very close. It would be really awesome if they announced a VF-171 (any variant). Besides the VF-27, that's the one I really want. Especially after Bandai has shown that they really are capable of making a decent VF with the 27. Speaking of stands or the lack of, I went to Lost and Found toys to order some FlexiDisplay stands and found they had were shutting down the web store Has anyone already spoken to them about how they plan on selling the stands since their site mentioned they wanted to focus on manufacturing?
  9. I actually ended up doing more to it afterwards. I put the resulting pics in the Strike a pose thread. I used the light and dark dirt promodeller washes, along with the tamiya weathering master kits and some use of gundam paint markers to add in additional paint applications where they were missing. You're gonna be pretty impressed with it once you get it in your hands.
  10. Cool. I hope this means they will come out with the other VF-19 variants and hopefully redesigned more to the standards set by their 21/22 and 11 releases.
  11. I like how the VF-27's cannon can remain mounted on the underside while in gerwalk mode. That's a first for a valkyrie as far as I can think of. The closest I can think of is the YF-21/VF-22 where the guns can stay attached to the bay doors, but they're kind of useless in that position in gerwalk mode.
  12. Tried to watch it out of curiosity, but for some reason it will only take a windows media player 11 plug-in to work. I have WMP 12 and it won't accept as a valid player. Oh well.
  13. And don't forget the collapsible shield. I like that the pilot figures are bigger, better sculpted, and removable. That swing down arm to hold the gunpod is unexpected and welcome. That and the removable pilots were things I couldn't see in pics up until now.
  14. Looks good. Doing all those rivets would have driven me nuts. Did you seal it to keep the rivets and the weathering from rubbing off?
  15. I noticed that the DX Macross Quarter was missing some paint apps in the final product while looking at pics and going through some MF episodes, especially the flight deck. I couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to add some of that myself. I was afraid I'd screw it up, but it actually came out better than expected. Before: After: I gotta say the Quarter is my favorite toy of 2010 thus far (yes, I know the year just started). It looks pretty impressive all bristling with turrets. I've also been wanting a Macross type capital ship and short of shelling out over $2000, this is the closest I'm going to get in the near future.
  16. I'm curious where those YF-19 pics came from. It looks like a pretty good quality CG render. Possibly the same one used in the All That VF airshow?
  17. Well, however you look at it, it's definitely official now with Graham's post from his talk with Yamato.
  18. Honestly, just get it. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it. It looks a lot more impressive in person and in three dimensions. From going through episodes of MF, the colors actually look to be about right after lighting has been taken into account. Also, if you want it darker, you can just display it in lower light conditions Also, the hands look about right in size. It's supposed to have huge hands to hold the enormous gun and flight deck. This screen cap from the last episode shows that the hand is pretty big.
  19. Awwww, so we're gonna have to wait until near the end of this year to find out So does Yamato have anything to release in the time between now and then?
  20. That's what I did and it worked out very well. A bunch of mine were bent inwards, so I heated them with a hair dryer til they got fairly soft and then held them in a straightened position and blew on them to cool them off. They remained straight after that.
  21. That comparison pic is misleading. The 1/48 picture is shown at a lower angle making it look like the chest armor is too high. You could get the same result with the 1/60 if the pic was taken with the camera lower. As far as head positioning goes, note that the 2-seaters don't have that issue as the head position is correct on those. Another pro of the 1/48 is it has a lot more detail than the 1/60. Also, I like the backpack clip mechanism better for the 1/48 than 1/60's. The 1/60 version is kind of ugly, imo, where it leaves a big gaping hole in the backpack when the clip is deployed. Additional pros for the 1/60 are it's in scale with most of the other Yamato and Bandai Macross releases, takes up less space, and the stickers are much better (thinner and edges don't peel).
  22. Check the overdrive thread pinned at the top.
  23. You can also see the nosecone radar antenna in this diagram.
  24. These pics were after I applied the panel lining and wash, plus some additional highlights using some blue from the tamiya weathering kit.
  25. Picked up my Quarter from the PO this morning as well. I really like the sculpt. It seems sufficiently detailed to me and the colors are acceptable. Most of the joints are pretty tight, though the joint that connects the bicep/tricep area to the shoulder could be tighter. They just kind of swing around under the weight of the gun and deck if you tilt the Quarter to the side. By contrast, the joint that allows you to move the arm up and down from the shoulder requires herculean strength to move and I was afraid I would break the shoulder. Some of the turrets were bent, but I tried to the hair dryer trick to straighten them out. My main gripe is the main cannon is crooked when opened. The top two prongs are off center from the bottom prong and are offset to the left. No amount of manipulating on my part could set it straight so I'll just leave it displayed in the closed position. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it. With a bit of panel lining, wash, and shading here and there, it looks magnitudes better than the DX VF-25's.
