  1. That would be awesome! I'm really hoping for the Macross Plus valkyries...
  2. It's a shame that the line isn't doing well. Is it perhaps because they are focusing on older shows, like SDF Macross and FOTS Dougram?
  3. Holy Crow! I'm assuming 1/60 scale for this as well? It's funny that I came across this today, because I'm re watching Frontier, and thought, I really want a Cheyenne Destroid, I could design one! But you beat me to the punch, also I've got no skill with drafting software. Man I wish I had the kind of talents y'all do.
  4. Has the Tomahawk not been done in HMR yet?
  5. Thanks! I was inspired by the 08th MS Team RGM-70[G] Sniper. First thing was a layer of black primer. I use sandable automotive primer, because it's cheap and for models can be used to highlight seams, and even sort of as filler. The Base coat was applied in layers with a Paasche VL-series airbrush, that I had been itching to try out. It worked beautifully by the way, and is now my favorite painting tool. Being a double action Airbrush I had superb control of how much paint I applied in each pass. So I did multiple coats using the black primer as pre-shading for the body and panel lines. I used two different colors for my base coat. The Light blue parts got a coat of Citadel Waagh Flesh green, and the Dark blue parts got a coat of Citadel Caliban Green. I then use the lighter green to barely highlight the darker green parts. After that I used the airbrush to draw some randomized blobs of Citadel XV-88 Brown across the various surfaces, making sure to hit the hard edges with some camo. The weapons were done in Citadel Russ Grey, with a metallic drybrush. The Lenses were all done with a base coat of Citadel Mephiston Red, and then topped with a bit of Citadel Blood For the Blood God technical paint to give a sort of dynamic glazed look. You can't see it but under the main "eye" the lenses and machinery were all painted as well, the machinery in gunmetal with a bronze drybrush and a blue wash, and the lens again with red and the glaze. I used the gunmetal to drybrush the joints, and then used a black ink wash to make the joints look grimey. I then used some foam from a pluck foam case as a sponge to stipple on some gunmetal where there would be wear on the paint. After that, I used several ink washes, green for the panel lines, brown to add some dirt grime where you'd see buildup and streaking from rain, and black for oil grime around joints and thrusters. I also used black to drybrush on some carbon buildup around the thruster exhausts. I then used the sponge again to hit the whole thing with Citadel Balor Borwn, for some dry dirt buildup, and highlighting. All in all it took about 28-30 total hours of labor to produce. And I'm pretty satisfied with the results, considering that this was my first gunpla kit in around 15 years and the first one I really put any effort into painting. I do think that I will me switching over to mostly Vallejo paints though, since they're a bit less expensive and come in convenient dropper bottles, which makes mixing my paints more exact, because I did have some issues with getting runs and having my paints thinned too much. The next one I'd like to actually try the Hairspray and salt technique on, Maybe a Zeon suit to be the target for my GM Sniper?
  6. Ok. Just what exactly is a Special Forces Squadron in Macross? Is it ever elaborated on what their duties are? How are they different than a front line fighter squadron? I'm assuming that Macross still has dedicated missions that we'd recognize from today? Things like SEAD, CAS, Air Interdiction, and Air Superiority. Are those Considered special missions (in an expeditionary capacity)? Are the Main Line Fighter Squadrons solely for fleet defense, while Special Forces actually go out and take out the enemy's support? Also, I'm going to assume that Special Forces Pilots are cross trained in dismounted combat, and perform missions similar to modern day special operations forces, such as Special Reconnaissance like we saw in Delta?
  7. We've probably already mentioned this, but I know that Frontier SMS has VF-19EF's, does that extend to the Frontier NUNS as well?
  8. It's not Macross in something else, but it is something else in Macross. This is still the only place I could have thought to put this. I was re-watching frontier, and I thought I heard an "ora ora ora" from Klan in this scene: Is that a JoJo reference in Macross? Certainly looks rather Star Platinum-y...
  9. I'm confused as to the purpose of any variant that isn't the Kairos or the Siegfried... What point to the 31JW's absurdly long canards serve?
  10. Does that imply that the Human race has more zentradi genes than actual human ones from SDFM onwards? I know there was cloning, but you hit the point of diminishing returns very quickly that way, and that really trashes genetic diversity...
  11. It's what I've seen them listed for, as for some reason I can't seem to view completed sales. Those are also based on the prices I've seen them listed for resale on second hand sites. YMMV. Like I said, I can't speak to the whole veracity of my claims, only what I've seen. Given that the VF-19Adv isn't supposed to be based on the Macross Plus YF-19 exactly, the Bandai does replicate the CG model seen in The Wings of Goodbye, so... I'd love to add an Arcadia, and heck even an original 1/72 Yamato just for the sake of completeness...
  12. I could. The problem is that it's a custom painted thing, and I'm not sure I can really replicate it. Since it was itself a copy of a cartoon, "The Last Great Act of Defiance"
  13. I know, but I always make sure my bills and debts get paid before I go buying any toys...
  14. So, with the die cast models, are the markings painted on? Or could they be removed and replaced?
  15. Fair point. Still, I have other expenses that need to be considered. Especially with the possibility of moving coming up. Need to save up for that. Also I have a car to fix, and some things to pay off with the university...
  16. Holy Crap! Well, it's a moot point, considering I don't get paid again until the 1st of December...
  17. I only have the original Yamato 1/60 YF-19, and the Bandai VF-19Adv, and they are worlds apart. I missed the boat on the Arcadia, and will never have one, unless I can get a reasonable deal (i.e. not spending $1000 or more, so probably never). From the reviews, the Bandai has a similar transformation, similar gimmicks, and is comparable in many respects. The Bandai does some things, though, that really impress me. Many of those things are the ones that people seem to gripe about for being fiddly. I actually appreciate that there are mechanisms that allow more line art accuracy from the toy. I also appreciate that there is more of a perfect transformation to the toy, in that there is almost no parts swapping required for it (save the gerwalk neck cover). It also incorporated something that no other transforming 19 toy has had, which is a waist swivel, granted it's limited, but it's there. That Bandai could bring that level of detail to the toy at 1/60 makes me really hopeful of a toy with similar detail at the 1/85th scale or so that the HMR range is at. I'm really hoping for a YF-19 and YF-21 release in the HMR's, because that would get me collecting those... Honestly, this whole thing is very subjective, since I'd put the VF-19Adv as the better overall, considering the detail, articulation, accuracy, and price point. Detail- The painted on detail is much higher on the Bandai, and is more true to it's representation in its respective anime. Articulation- The Arcadia lacks a bit in articulation, as I believe the range of motion on some joints is a scooch more in the bandai, and it has a waist. But, I don't know if that's enough to really call it, so I'd say it's a dead heat. Accuracy- Both have more and less than the other in certain areas so we'll call that even. Price Point- So I'll break this down into two parts. The original Purchase price for the VF-19Adv was lower than the Arcadia's was. That made the VF-19Adv more accessible, which is major point in its favor. By the time the bandai had released, the arcadia had almost doubled in price. The Arcadia is worth more now, commanding prices of ~$1000 while the bandai is only around ~$500. The Arcadia was definitely the better investment.
  18. Thanks, unfortunately those sheets are missing one critical detail. The nose art, which was a pretty distinctive feature. I've found a 1/48 scale kit, it's a revell re-release of the old monogram kit. There's also a 1/72 by Hasegawa that's probably what I'd go for, since I want to put it in a display box for my dad's desk. The 1/48 is probably a bit too involved in making it look right. Raised panel lines, and the thing would probably need a pound of bondo for all the seams, the vertical stab has some wonky issues with gaps, the wings have gap issues. It's a royal pain, and would tax my skills to make it look good. But, there is also the fact that there are decal sheets out there for that kit that have the nose art... But I suppose that as long as the tail number is correct that's all that matters right?
  19. I'm sorry to hear about that man. I've never had to worry about that, since I do my own housekeeping. Are they in display cases? Have you tried contacting the office to tell them that stuff is being damaged by the housekeepers?
  20. Nuts! I guess it's plan A then. I wanted to present my father with an F-106A in MIANG's 171st FIS colors for his birthday. I'm even trying to figure out his tail number... Plan A is to get a model and build it up and paint it and find a decal sheet with his tail number and nose art. I was hoping for a quick solution, but I guess not... Edit: Found the tail number, 58-0772. If y'all find anything in your searches, let me know please?
