  1. Thanks for the advice, everyone. Alas, it seems all that worrying I did was for nought... as was the fan. What was supposed to be a simple $200 GPU upgrade (with the 140mm fan tagging along for some better cooling) turned into a ~$800 more or less full upgrade. What happened was this: I built my previous PC 3-4 years ago running an AMD Athlon X4 750K on a MSI A88XM-E45 motherboard. It was my first time overclocking, and I ended up doing some damage to my computer in the process, even after I returned everything to stock settings. I wasn't sure whether the CPU, motherboard, or both was damaged, but everything was running fine now, so I didn't pay it any mind. Until... About a year ago, my computer started randomly shutting off; after I made the aforementioned $200 upgrade, things only got worse. My nephew playing Overwatch began experiencing major frame drops indicative of heavy CPU throttling, and sure enough, when I checked the CPU stats, I was seeing temperatures of <80 degrees C and, more alarmingly, a CPU clock speed of 3.7 GHz (it's supposed to be 3.4) and voltage of 1.5v (it's supposed to be 1.25-1.35). I don't have the knowledge nor skill to test which of the two components (CPU/mobo) is faulty, so I decided to pretty much just start new. Although I wanted to wait for the new AMD Zen chips coming out next year, I needed a replacement now, and the current lineup of CPUs heavily advantages Intel. That meant a new Intel chip and matching motherboard, which demanded new DDR4 RAM (from DDR3). And while all that would still have worked inside my then-current case, I decided what the heck, let's change that out for something with a bit better airflow, too. The only things that would carry over from my damaged PC would be the CPU heatsink - a Hyper 212 Evo - the PCI-E wireless card, the storage media, and the 750W PSU. So as it stands, my current build is: - Intel Core i5 6600K (may or may not overclock, but definitely with better care this time around) - MSI Z170-A Pro motherboard - 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 @ 2400 MHz - XFX RX 480 8GB - 120GB SSD - 2x 1TB HDD (one for general storage, one for backup, both to be replaced eventually with SSDs) - Corsair Carbide Air 540 high-airflow case The Corsair case came with three 140mm fans preinstalled, which rendered my fan purchase earlier pretty much moot. I suppose I could mount it to the top of the chassis (there's space there for 2x 140mm or 3x 120mm fans, and/or radiators), but so far, there's plenty of airflow and cooling, and I'm once again out of 3-pin system fan headers to boot. I have a free 4-pin PWM header now, so I COULD connect it to that and attach it to the heatsink, but eh, I feel like the computer's fine as is. Speaking of, the computer runs ridiculously quiet. I didn't even notice the lack of sound until my nephew brought it up shortly after booting for the first time. Has fan tech really advanced so far in 3-4 years? Or did I just go from using really bad fans to really good ones? Once I get a new copy of Windows installed, I'll do some more thorough testing on CPU speeds and cooling and the like, but for now, I'm just happy everything is working.
  2. I just got my payment request, so maybe even sooner than that.
  3. I think technically it would be non-scale, right? Unless the VF is human-sized or the girl is 50 feet tall. ...which now I think of it wouldn't be at all out of place in that world.
  4. Neat trick: Order each one at a time, use coupon both times. At least that's what I did last time a 30% coupon was around, and it worked.
  5. A CnP from my GE post: A Black Friday Barnes and Noble 30% off any item coupon, not active until this Thursday online/Friday in-store: BNBFRIDAY16 Though it seems to be working now, too. Have at it, folks. For reference, a quick search for "Bandai" + coupon resulted in the Movie Realization Sand Trooper selling for about $60 shipped (MSRP of 7800 yen). MG Freedom 2.0 for ~$40 shipped. The website doesn't allow you to differentiate between third-party sellers and BnN itself, though, so seeing if something qualifies is a bit of a chore. EDIT: Compiled a list of eligible kits (based on a search for "gundam" under Hobbies and Collectibles, may have thus omitted some items): MG Freedom 2.0 - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-freedom-gundam/30073716?ean=4549660048831 MG Origin Gundam - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-mg-rx-78-gundam/29124416?ean=4549660013143 RG Sinanju - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-22-msn-06s-sinanju-gundam-uc-real-grade/30078859?ean=4549660075905 RG 00 Raiser - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-real-grade-1-144-00-raiser-gundam-00/28599967?ean=4543112964274 1/100 Barbatos 6th Form - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-barbatos-form-6-gundam-ibo-1-100/30120054?ean=4549660073239 1/100 Grimgerde - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-grimgerde-gundam-ibo-1-100/30073715?ean=4549660041818 HG Thunderbolt FA Gundam - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-full-armor-gundam-gundam-thunderbolt-bandai-hobby/27509030?ean=4543112851642 HGBF Gyancelot - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-gyancelot-gundam-build-fighters-bandai-hgbf/30073726?ean=4549660105244 HGBF Kamiki Burning Gundam - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-hgbf-1-144-kamiki-burning-gundam/29362097?ean=4549660013044 HGIBO Astaroth Origin - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-gundam-astaroth-origin-gundam-ibo-bandai-hg/30073722?ean=4549660075929 HGIBO Astaroth - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-19-gundam-astaroth-ibo-hg/30073721?ean=4549660075912 HGIBO Barbatos Lupus - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-gundam-barbatos-lupus-ibo-hg-1-144/30444607?ean=4549660090649 HGPG Pandaguy - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-pandagguy-gundam-build-fighters-bandai-hgpg-1-144/30073725?ean=4549660076032 HGG-Rec Space Jahannam Klim Nick Type - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-hg-g-reco-space-jahannam-klim-nick-use/29169257?ean=4543112943750 SD EX-Standard Barbatos - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-010-gundam-barbatos-sd-ex-standard/30120055?ean=4549660078555 SD EX-Standard Try Burning - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-011-try-burning-gundam-sd-ex-standard/30120056?ean=4549660090663 Also this, which I would get if I hadn't just spent around $800 to build a new computer after what was supposed to be a mere $200 graphics card upgrade: SH Figuarts Omegamon - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-omegamon/29773692?ean=4549660023357
  6. Is it just an average anime girl? Do they not have the rights to ANY of the various female leads?
  7. The HGUC Efreet seems like a really odd choice to me. The RE100 came out just last year(?) and is still fairly popular(?). Are they going on a Blue Destiny Revive theme or something for the next few months that would justify this? But... yeah, just seems odd. I'm digging the Ground GM, though, for the most part. It could probably benefit from a kitbash with the old 90s HG/Ground War Set head/HGUC Ground Gundam (the same way the Ground Gundam benefits from a kitbash with its 90s HG counterpart), but overall it's looking like a nice package. I'm hoping the Sniper variant comes as a standard release, too, instead of P-Bandai.
  8. Another Ver. Ka. Hooray. I'm curious about that HG Zeta, though. Looks to be essentially a Revive HGUC. What about it warrants the new model line?
  9. Hmmm... Mobo doesn't have any remaining 3-pin headers either. The one it does have is being used by the rear exhaust fan. I want to avoid getting a splitter or other extra hardware, but maybe that's the only option left? Would a local Best Buy/electronics store have something for that, or will I have to shop for something online?
  10. Hey all. Maybe you can help me out. I mistakenly bought a 140mm cpu fan with a 4-pin PWM connector. I want to use it as a case fan (front intake, in place of my empty 5.25" bays) and have no spare 4-pin slots on my mobo. How can I adapt this fan to run? Maybe forego fan control, power it at full blast if necessary?
  11. Ah, that puts my mind at ease. Thanks for the confirmation, you two.
  12. Hey everyone. I received my YF-29 Isamu from spanner a couple weeks ago (thanks! it's a gem ) and just got around to tinkering with it yesterday. It transforms pretty much exactly like a -25, which isn't at all surprising. But when getting it back to fighter mode, I noticed that I couldn't completely straighten the Gerwalk joint (so that the armor panels sit flush with each other) or else the wings wouldn't fold down correctly. I had to have them open one ratchet click, and then everything fit into place smoothly. Is this the "correct" way to go about things with this lineage of VF design? I have an inkling that the "Tornado Pack" design of the -29 plays a significant role in that joint needing to be engaged; if I remember correctly, almost all Super/Armored/etc.-equipped VFs require that little bit of clearance offered by engaging the Gerwalk joint. I also remember not being able to get my Super/Armored -25 kits to play nice in this same area, and I was probably messing up in the same spot with them, too. If anyone can confirm/debunk this hypothesis, that'd be much appreciated.
  13. @%#$ me, that actually looks super badass.
  14. Lol I just saw your comment in the other thread too. Good luck rectifying that. Maybe pretend one engine is SUUUUPERCHARGED!!!!
  15. Oh, doy. I mistook the statement from a few posts back about other Gimix kits being OOP to include the 31A. A quick look around the e-shops show it's backordered at worst. But I remember a question I had during construction, now. Did anyone who built any of the VF-31 variants have issues with the small triangle piece connecting the weapons pod to the backpack/central fuselage? I don't know if the peg on the triangle piece is supposed to fit all the way into the weapons pod or not, but the one on mine retained a fairly significant gap even when I applied what was probably a not-smart amount of pressure to the pieces. I couldn't see any physical impediments to the two parts fitting together nicely aside from the paint job, hence my comment above about parts fit.
  16. Seeing the Project Super Nova competitors in this line would be just... just wonderful. Oh be still, my beating heart.
  17. I'd like to see these released as unpainted, DIY kits. Them being prepainted means I can't get rid of any seam lines (where the lower/upper fuselage meet, for instance) or gaps (which mainly result from the paint job making parts harder to fit together). The tighter fit from the paint also made me worry about smaller/more fragile parts breaking. I'm glad that didn't happen, but there were more than a couple of hold-my-breath moments there. Still, I'm really digging this 31A. It's such a fun little thing to build. Shame about them no longer being in stock.
  18. Oy, speaking of unnecessary flourish... What's being shown in that second image, where parts of the robot are colored in black? Is it showing off articulated/removable armor panels? Decals/tampo markings?
  19. I just saw it in a random ad and jumped on it. Is Bandai releasing a figure of their own? Of the Arbalest and/or the Laevatein? I wasn't exactly keeping up with the rare updates for this series. Either way, I like Alter's sculpt. One thing I didn't particularly like about the Metal Build Laevatein, and which (along with finances) kept me from getting it, was the unnecessary flourish that Bandai always seems to indulge in. The Kotobukiya kit of the same subject matter cost significantly less and looked just as good in my eyes (if not better in some regards), with the only major drawback being its smaller scale. Anyway, I'm rambling.
  20. Pre-order for the Alter 1/60 Arbalest at HLJ: http://hlj.com/product/ALT20816 @Hobby Search: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10424051 EDIT: Sorry. Arbalest, not Laevatein. That would be sweet, though.
  21. In short, no. In long: The battroid heads are interchangeable, though the kit only provides you one polycap to attach to the neck ball joint. The fighter mode head is not articulated (save for the head turret); the head and neck are molded together, with the neck in a "collapsed" form. It fits to the underside of the fighter via a square/rectangular peg. The two kits' heads (+ neck) aren't easily interchangeable, but you can probably manage it without too much trouble so long as you're comfortable with modding/scratchbuilding.
  22. I really wish my store would recklessly stock more items that no one but me would ever buy and be forced to put them on clearance at which point I would dry-wipe my hands and grin knowingly.
  23. Just to clarify, only SOME kits are/were on clearance sale. There was a cabinet/shelf of RG Quanta, RG Sinanju, MG Origin Gundam, etc. selling at regular price. I'd imagine the DM Exia would be selling at regular price, too.
