Really not a big fan of the Takara 1/18 articulated fingers.

The hard ABS fingers have a nasty tendency to fall out of the softer ABS palm (main hand part). I've lost two fingers already. Takara should really have made the palm of ABS as well.

I'm sticking with the fixed pose hands thank you very much.

Wow. Aside from the terrible seam running down the middle of the 'Dog's torso (which seems to stick out extra on yours,) that looks awesome. They really did a great job on the weathering and detail for both the dog and the extra weapons.

However, I sitll cannot wait for my Yamato RSC, which is going to be over-detailed mecha porn. :D

Thanks for the pics Graham, that looks great. I can't wait to get my set!

That TC looks enticing, too. I wonder if they'll offer that Chirico figure seperately ever. I'm guessing no, but I hope the do. Maybe a Votoms 'figure pack' down the road with all of the figures that have so far only come with 'Dogs.

yeah i noticed it now that u guys tell me... hehehe...

would it be cooler if the red shoulder is painted in metallic red or chromed red? i think i saw one custom made by fan with chromed red shoulders which i think is striking but cant remember where i saw it...

Think the bright red on this Red Shoulder Custom is meant to be a little off, since in the show, Vanilla picked a wrong red color and sprayed on the wrong shoulder. The real future Red Shoulder release should have a deeper darker red. Though metallic, I am not so sure. It may not match well with the whole matte finsh paint hob.

Got the Red shoulder/weapons expansion pack also and outfitted my DMZ#1 (same as graham's pics). The set is very well done in terms of most everything staying on, with the exception of the missles, which slide out of their housing easier than I'd hoped.

The Vanilla action figure is the typical terrible microman figure that explodes into pieces and looks more like a collection of ball-joints than a human figurine. Yeah he's staying in the box forever. I really wish they had provided updated, tighter and perhaps poseable hands for the 'dog with this set, as the following formula continues to play itself out weekly:

ABS plastic, multi-part hands barely and awkwardly holding rifle + A mosquito coughs in China = Hand self destructs at the wrist, parts rain off my shelf.

PLEASE Takara-Tomy, release a replacement hands set!

Looks absolutely awesome though, I'm going to have to start saving for the upcoming Turbo Custom version, despite the escalating prices. Meanwhile, my Yamato 1/12 scale version is packed away in its box, gathering dust and dejection. It will be interesting to compare each Red shoulder set when Yamato releases their version.

I cannot wait for the Yamato RS weapons to come out... I'm just hoping the missile launcher isn't too heavy or the ankles are really good on the dog in the set... mine all (except for the two new ones sitting at home) have tightened up ankles, but OOB that might be a bit scary.

New color pics of the DMZ Turbo Custom!

Looks pretty awesome... comes with all the weapons so you can buy four and have the whole team from Last Red Shoulder (what a marketing ploy! and so tempting!!) Legs look a tad squat in those photos tho... the lower legs especially... and the torso looks really wide for some reason. No sign of the articulated fingers either... still, I am stoked for this to be my first DMZ and it looks great overall... for the first large toy of the TC, who can complain?

The show looks very good. Th CG a bit need to get used to, as they don't even seem like trying to blend into the cell animation. But things look very detailed, so more likely we are getting some quality stuff. Not a cheap project just trying to cash in with the franchise's name....like those recent Fist of the North Stars movies. Guess I'll just have to keep buying these DVDs.

So it's Saving Private Chirico? Seriously, while COMPLETELY AWESOME LOOKING!, that amphibious landing both doesn't really make sense from an AT deployment standpoint AND was ripped right out of SPR... ATs can be parachute dropped in.... why go amphibious?

Lol, he can't die even when HE wants to.

True. Very true. Though I do like that aspect of the show, Especially when they turn it up a notch towardds the end of TV, as well as the OVAs. Kind of a little surprise when compared to the beginning of the show, when he just look like a regular tough guy with a little luck.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got the Taklara 1/18 RSC parts. Overall still good, but not as good as I was expecting. Here is why:

For mine, a good number of parts need help to stay on good. Particularly the left arm cannon and the backpack, and of course the missiles. The rest stay on snug tight. For the arm cannon, I am not really digging the attachment design. While the black piece hooks well onto the elbow plate, the black piece connects to the blue cannon part with a very shallow peg, which causes the cannon to pop off every now and then. The peg could easily go twice as long, and still have enough clearance. Then the silver barrel also not connecting the blue part loose, again causing half of the cannon falls off. So within this one piece, there are two weak connections. The ammo clip is alos pretty big & long, so gets in the way a bit when posing. But thats more due to the original design. So it will need some work just to keep the arm cannon stay put. I somehow couldn't get the backpack hooked on the back. There don't seem to have much friction or locking between the hooks and the backpack slot, similar to Rabidlydog. The backpack just sits on the hooks by gravity. So I end up need to put a piece od foamie on one of the hook as a cushion, giveing it a lot more friction. Now its nice and tight. Lastly, my waist gattling gun extention (silver piece with grooves) is glued the wrong way rotated at a 90 degree, making it impossible to fit the gun on the waist. Have to take it apart and break some plastic inside to do the fix. Luckily, all the breakage is hidden inside so you won't see the flaws. But the fix did made the connection of the gun and backpack not perfectly straight at times. Thanks QC! And the missiles just keep falling whenever you hold the figure the wrong way...sigh. Takara had done so many thing right on the Scopedogs, so didn't expect them to miss the mark on a few of these things, when this accessories set is pretty simple, and costly.

So is it a bad purchase, not at all. Other parts still fit on nicely, and does make the scopedog heck of cool especially in action poses with the missiles launching from the shoulder. And to my surprise, the Vanilla figure this time is actually pretty good. The normal head is still a bit off on the likeness with the face too long. But the one with the goggle is quite good. Joints are tight enough on this one too. Like the new microman stands too, now letting both feet to rest on pegs. Much better than the old stand that has only 1 peg for one feet, while the another oversize peg that is pretty much useless for the figure. So its good that at least I get one good Chirico & Vanilla microman for display, while all the flimpsy ones are going to the cockpits. So overall, a good add-on, but kind of made my very playable Scopedog into a more fiddly display piece, before missiles start falling or arm cannon popping off.

The backpack on the Takara 1/18 RSC does attach super tight, you just need to push it down really hard to get it to lock onto the back hooks on the Scopedog. At first I thought the backpack only attached by gravity, but then I studied the official pics and noticed that it should sit slightly lower then the top of the scopedog's back. You need to push it so hard that you think the hooks might break, but they don't and the pack locks on ultra-super tight.

Regarding the arm cannon, I glued the barrel and magazine on mine.

As for the missiles coming out easily, the Yamato 1/12 has the same problem.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like the backpack is very risky of breakage if I force it down. Since the foamie trick works pretty good, I'll just stick with that. I did add a couple drops of super glue to thicken both connection pegs on the arm cannon parts. Now they sits much tighter on the arm without popping issue. Cool. Think I start to like this set more, with most of the issues fixed.

Votoms PS2 game trailer (crappy video quality)

The textures turn me off a bit, with the very washed out & pixelated grainy look on the ATs. So wasn't considering this game until I saw this

But now that seeing it in action and all the info, I might actually re-consider getting this game. The animation is great, and looks like its a pretty big game with full story mode on the TV & OVA, and having 50 playable ATs is pretty good.

Pailsen Files promo video 4

Not a lot of new footage, but still pretty badass. Not quite digging the new them song though from the little thats played in this trailer. The production value on this show looks really high, the more I see it. Can't wait to get the DVDs.
