The Dollar/Yen exchange rate is having a positive effect on the affordability of these latest DXs, if one is able to secure a copy when preorders open. Case in point: When I preordered a VF-171 from N-Y the price was $182.77 +S&H; it's now $176.77. I sure hope the Japanese government keeps devaluing their currency so that the price will be even more attractive upon release, and that N-Y invoices at the updated price... or I may choose not to pay.

i think you should pay in yen, then you'll be safe. i believe paying in USD locks you in to that price with nippon yasan. It's a double edge sword, meaning if the yen get stronger you'll be protected (paying in USD from rising prices). but if it get weaker than the dollar you end up feeling you are over paying.

How do you pay in Yen? Can you do that if you select pay later?

it's on top of the page where the language is selected

you have to select the JPY (yen) currency before checking out your preorder

If I recall correctly, I don't think they work that way. I'd have to go back into all my previous orders and correspondence to bouble check, but I've been charged a lesser amount than innitially quoted in the past, precisely because the exchange rate was more Dollar favorable at invoice time. What you describe is true when you pay upfront since you lock yourself into the current rate, so that the best they'll do for you is offer any difference as store credit.

Edit: ...but since I'm not sure, I'm keeping my options open. Also, paying in Dollars when using Paypal circumvents their exchange rate gouging.

can you double check if they lowered the price for you? that would be good to know!

Okay, I've checked and I was right. In July of 2012 I placed a preorder for Alto's VF-171EX's armor parts set; the quoted total with shipping in US Dollars at the time of the order was $89.04. About two weeks before release, in December, I was invoiced and paid $83.97. Going by this experience it's likely the charged amount for the regular VF-171 will also reflect the current exchange rate at the time the invoice is issued... that's my hope; but, like I've said, I'll be keeping my options open and my eye on the charged amount vs. the then quoted price on the site if the item is still available.

thanks! i had a different experience with the yen rising but i was charged the amount that was locked in though i chose to pay later.

it looks like NY will readjust the price if it's lower. good to know they may do this for people.

For everypreorder NY has always recalculated at time of invoice, which is about 7-10 days before release.

At that time the preorder could be more and less depending upon the change of the Yen-rate.

It's hit and miss.

I'm 99% sure the CF will be cheaper upon release than it was at pre-order, but the same cannot be said of the ALto and RVF as we have no clue what'll change in 3-4 months.

I'm going to prepay for my ALTO and rvf's once my tax-return is in, just to lock in the price and not deal with the drama.

Only Pre-order if you're willing to pay that price up-front :D

if you preorder in usd and decide to pay before the 7-10 day invoice prior to release, when you pre-pay anytime between now and prior to that re-adjusted invoice, the original invoice in usd is not re adjusted.

for an example, i pre-ordered an rvf-25 for 185 usd a few weeks ago which comes out to 203 including shipping. if i pay now (the yen has since weakened and is lower today, my pre-order price will be still 185 plus shipping making it 203.

but if i placed my order in yen (17000) back then and i decided to pay now it would be 176. plus shipping. I'm not sure if i'm making sense.

edit: (i tried checking out now to confirm my invoice is still 185 plus shipping = 203 though the yen has weakened)

Hello,
As long as you don't pay, you're not locked. The currency rate at the pre-order don't change.
If you want to change in Yens, you must ask us. For this, send your request to :contact.nippon-yasan.

Kind regards

From the NY FB page.

From the NY FB page.

thanks i'm going to ask to change to yen if i can't seem to get the price readjusted in USD.

You can check, use the pay now option and don't finalize the payment.

i just tried to check out my rvf @ 185 plus shipping making it 203 but the usd price is still the same.

I actually placed an order for 3x more from NY while that was open, and cancelled my old orders. I had made the mistake of only putting 2x in my cart a few months back when that order opened and had to make a whole separate order for the 3rd one. I could not get them to combine the orders because they were at 2 different prices. By cancelling the 2 older orders I got the 3x cheaper and better shipping for cheaper. No matter how I tried they refused to offer me any service on combining the orders or cancelling and making a new order to include all 3. Doing this I saved almost $100 bucks.

I guess their refusal to adjust USD pricing with currency fluctuations is a recent change?

I asked if I was going to get the lower price on the YF-29 30th anniversary super parts and got this reply:

"Hello and thank you for your email!

Unfortunately the price for pre order remain the same even if the currency rate changes.
So you will be charged the price on your pre order."

I suspect the change has to do with the recent weakening of the yen. It went from about 80 yen to $1 at the start of the year to it's current rate of 99 yen to $1. For NY that's a lot of extra yen if they make people keep the same dollar price for preorders made prior to the drop.

I'm not going to pursue the matter further since it's only a few bucks for me, but for people with large orders, that's a hefty chunk of change. YF-29 super parts are sold out anyway, so I can't just make a new order. <_<

I picked up 2 171cf from ny last night by luck. Happened to wake up and checked my email and had notification from ny. I don't need 2 so I can probably sell extra 1 to forum for my cost which was 200 shipped

How did you get them to notify you via email?

Same it's my fav macF valk as well but I won't be going multiples as its bandai. If Arcadia takes it on I will though.

VF-22 and VF-171 flying in formation had got to be the most amazing valkporn for me :p Hmm seems like I have a thing for General Galaxy's birds.
