Old Man Posted March 12, 2009 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I need help! I've had my VF-1S for about 4 years and it's been on display, away from light but not covered, for two of those years. I made the huge mistake of applying the original decals when I first got the thing. Soon after I purchased a few sets of replacement decals from Anasazi37 and haven't attempted to apply them until now. Unfortunately, when I tried to remove the original decals, some took along with them some of the black paint they were applied to. Does anyone know the best solution for touching up this problem? I figured some model paint would work, but I'm not sure which kind and what shade and gloss. Any help would be much appreciated. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've included a picture of the worst damage caused by removing the factory decals. Sorry for the low quality pic. I'll see if I can get my brother to bring his Nikon D60 over to get some better shots. There was also some paint removal on one of the tail fins, but the damage wasn't nearly as extensive as it was on the front of the Valkyrie and the new decals from Anasazi37 covered it up nicely. As you can see, the original "001" decal took some paint along the vertical edge of the black stripe. The paint can still be seen on the edge of the removed decal. I'm asking because I just recently picked up a Stealth VF-1J w/ SSP and a Woodland Camo VF-1A w/ GBP armor, and I wanted to display them with at least a few of the key decals. Naturally, I want to avoid the previous problems I had with the factory decals on my VF-1S, namely the low adhesion and the fact that they will peel paint if removed. Naturally, I want to avoid the previous problems I had with the factory decals on my VF-1S, namely the low adhesion and the fact that they will peel paint if removed. hello it does not look bad at all ok go to a hobby shop and ask for tamiya tape and a fine grit of sand paper and a can of tamiya AS-6 : flat black erase all the black paint with the sand paper ( removing all will allow it not to look like a repair touch ) then secure the paint area with the tape ( make sure to tape parts of the birds that are not supposed to be painted cause you are going to spray) and spray the area when dried : remove the tape it will just look like it is out of the factory Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mpchi Posted March 15, 2009 Share Posted March 15, 2009 Sharpie is handy and convinient, but you can't get a matte finish out of that thing, but a glossy black with a purple tint in the light. It also tend to rub off a bit on smooth plastic surface. So its not a good solution for the valk. A $10 Transformer, sure. A $100+ Yamato valk? Better not. Should I go just to the vertical line to the right of the damage, or should I respray the whole horizontal and vertical black lines? How close is the Tamiya paint to the factory spray?
