  1. Don't Breathe is a horror/suspense film produced by Sam Raimi (the Evil Dead series, the Spider-Man trilogy) and directed by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead [2013], From Dusk till Dawn: The Series), starring Jane Levy (Mia in Evil Dead [2013], Tessa in Suburgatory), Stephen Lang (Quaritch in Avatar, most likely to be Cable in an X-Force movie), Dylan Minnette (Clay in Saving Grace, Rex in Awake), and Daniel Zovatto (Seth in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gideon in Revenge). The film centers on three people breaking into the home of a blind war veteran to steal US$300,000 from him, only to learn the hard way that he doesn't take kindly to intruders. The film opened on August 26 and is receiving rave reviews. "Worth watching and worth buying on Blu-ray" "A-" "95 and 82 out of 100" "Absolutely worth your time" Official Site Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 86% - "Don't Breathe smartly twists its sturdy premise to offer a satisfyingly tense, chilling addition to the home invasion genre that's all the more effective for its simplicity." Metacritic Score: 71 out of 100
  2. One of the most controversial graphic novels of all time finally gets animated. Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's Batman: The Killing Joke is produced by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) and directed by Sam Liu (Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Batman: Year One), and will feature the following voices: Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman (since 1992) Mark Hamill as The Joker (who else?) Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon (reprising role from Beware the Batman and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman) Ray Wise (Nash in RoboCop, Perry White in Superman: Doomsday) as Commissioner Gordon As with other adapted works, Alan Moore refuses to be credited in this film. The film will be rated R and is slated for a July release. A Sneak Peek at Batman: The Killing Joke
  3. Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is the latest CG animated film in the Final Fantasy franchise. It is directed by Takeshi Nozue, co-director of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and features the voices of Aaron Paul (Jesse in Breaking Bad), Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Ma-Ma in Dredd), and Sean Bean (the guy that dies in every other film, meaning he'll probably die here as well). The film opens in Japanese theaters on July 9 and will have a limited U.S. release on August 19. Official Site

  5. From the studio that gave us This Is the End and The Interview comes an animated film on crack. Sausage Party features an all-star voice cast as food products fighting to survive from being what they are made for. It premieres at the South by Southwest Film Festival this week and hits theaters on August 12. Official Site
  6. Lazer Team is a sci-fi comedy film produced by Rooster Teeth (RWBY, Red vs. Blue) and is a result of a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign (collecting pledges of US$2.4 million against a campaign target of US$650,000). In the film, four friends stumble upon an alien battle suit and find themselves in a dilemma when they split the suit among themselves. Reviews for the film have been surprisingly positive: "If you want to see the greatest cinematic usage of the jerk-off hand motion (to date), watch Lazer Team. It’s a bit of satirical sci-fi comedy that only the guys at Rooster Teeth can dream up, given a strong love for egregious dick jokes and non-stop references to Independence Day." - Matt Donato, We Got This Covered "3 super-robotic burritos out of 5. Lazer Team might not be a non-stop laugh-a-minute type of movie, but taken as a low-budget, high-energy, quick-witted homage to the best in 1980s matinee movies, it manages to be a pretty good time." - Scott Weinberg, Nerdist "3 1/2 out of 5 skulls. Comical, surprisingly intelligent, and entertaining, Lazer Team is a movie that’s worth watching, and stands a step above other popcorn flicks of its nature. Although the formula is somewhat predictable, and the plot admittedly pretty silly, the film still manages to be a success, based partially on a script that provides some interesting notes on today’s individualistic-driven generation, and the raw power that comes from good old teamwork." - Kalyn Corrigan, Bloody Disgusting Lazer Team premieres in select U.S. theaters on January 27. 7. Syfy Channel originals, they are low budget classics that are primarily creature features that have been going on since 2002 with over 200 some film titles having the honor of being classified as such. With that said I figured we need a thread and I'll start by posting every original I've seen to date: What are your thoughts on this classic legacy?
  8. Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are back for another chapter of the Bourne saga (and to tell you that The Bourne Legacy didn't happen). Jason Bourne hits theaters on July 29. Jason Bourne @ IMDb
  9. Coming to theaters on July 24 is Pixels, a sci-fi comedy remake of the 2010 French short film of the same name. Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Bicentennial Man), the film is about an alien invasion in the form of '80s video game icons such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Unfortunately, it also stars Adam Sandler, which means this film will be a likely entry on the Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time thread. Pixels @ IMDb

  11. Well There are three Hulkbuster toys 2 are from the last movie and very expensive and 1 just being stupid expensive and 1 affordable and pretty cool based off the comic I had the Hot Toys on pre-order but for around 1200 canadian, they can kiss my ass cancelled. Then there is the King Arts Hulkbuster, smaller version of the hot toys but diecast and 600 dollars. You can fit inside an actual 1/9 iron man https://www.facebook.com/kingartshk/videos/1018119884887343/ and then sentinels version Now I am trying to pre-order but not BBTS because I am not going to give BBTS 200 canadian to hold for 1.5 years. No way. That is bullshit. So I called my Hong Kong supplier and see if he can get it. But for sure the sentinel one is bought
  12. Six-String Samurai HSX Films/Palm Pictures, 1998 Directed by Lance Mungia (The Crow: Wicked Prayer) Running Time: 91 minutes Rated PG-13 for martial arts violence and mild language. "Don't touch my guitar, man. Don't even touch my guitar." - Buddy Cast Jeffrey Falcon as Buddy Justin McGuire as the Kid Lex Lang (Gineas in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Shun in Heat Guy J) as Death (voice) Buddy: "Who are you?" Death: "Death." Buddy: "Cool. You here for me?" Death: "You and every other rock 'n' roller out to claim my throne." Synopsis In 1957, the Soviet Union nuked America and turned the country into a wasteland. The last safe haven in America was a city called Lost Vegas, ruled by King Elvis. Forty years have passed since then, and Elvis has died. Sword-wielding, guitar-picking warriors all over the wastelands embark on a perilous journey to be crowned King of Lost Vegas. On his way to the city, a lone rockabilly named Buddy saves a kid from a bunch of primitive thugs. Despite having to put up with the kid - who does nothing but moan and scream, Buddy must continue his quest to become the King, even if he has to face the Russian Army or Death himself and his heavy metal minions from hell. "Don't let the four-eyes reach Vegas alive!" - Death Lowdown B-movies - you've seen one, you've seen them all. Many of them are poorly scripted, cheaply produced and reek of horrible acting. But then, once in a while, there comes a B-movie that's so good, you can't get enough of it. Take, for example, Six-String Samurai: a loose parody of Lone Wolf and Cub and a satire of American pop culture. "Nice tuxedo. Nice tuxedo to die in!" - Pin Pals leader Jeffrey Falcon, who has spent most of his career as a white jobber in Hong Kong flicks, does a great job playing Buddy (a parody of the late rock legend Buddy Holly), who packs a sharp katana and plays a mean six-string at the same time. The acting is extremely cheesy and the script is full of one-liners that really stick to your head. You even have a host of laughable baddies for Buddy to use his katana on, such as the Pin Pals (a trio of bald bowlers), the Cleavers (a cannibalistic suburban family), a bunch of fallen Cosmonauts and the Windmill People (mutants living underground). "I ask you to kill one single guitarist, and what do I get? Dead bald guys. You four have failed me for the last -- nice shoes." - Death For the soundtrack, Bryan Tyler (Fast Five, Thor: The Dark World) and The Red Elvises capture the essence of the film with rock 'n' roll mixed with ska, surf music and Russian folk. It's amazing how their music flows with the fight scenes. "Cross that line, kid, I'll cut your little teddy bear in half. Last kid that crossed that line, I had to summon up the Spinach Monster with my rock 'n' roll magic. The Spinach Monster grabbed him, pulled him underground and made him eat spinach all day. Rumor has it, kid...he's still there." - Buddy If you're looking for some cheap thrills, pick up Six-String Samurai. You won't be disappointed. Rating: A- "You come all this way without sayin' squat. And you are tryin' to tell me that a '56 Chevy can beat a '47 Buick in a dead quarter mile...I liked you better when you weren't sayin' squat kid. Go to bed." - Buddy DVD Extras: A- When you rent or purchase the DVD, you get the theatrical trailer and two music videos by The Red Elvises. This band really kicks ass! Mesh-head: "If I were you, I'd run!" Buddy: "If you were me, you'd be good lookin'!" (Snaps fingers) Links Official Six-String Samurai Homepage Reference The Internet Movie Database
  13. Coming to theaters on June 3 is Approaching the Unknown, directed by Mark Elijah Rosenberg and starring Mark Strong (Merlin in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Sinestro in Green Lantern) as an astronaut on a lone mission to Mars that goes wrong halfway, pushing his mission and sanity on the edge.

  15. (I feel like I was hijacking the other guy's thread, so...) Some of you might be familiar with the Gundam Mega Marathon I've been on for the past couple of years and I'm not abandoning it, but with the announcement of the new Macross Delta tv series, I realized it had been quite a while since I had watched Macross. Therefore, I'll be going on a Macross Mega Marathon, which should be a little less consuming than the Gundam Marathon. Don't worry, I'm not giving up on Gundam; I'll of course be watching G-Tekketsu as it airs. Anyway, I'll be posting my impressions here, just like with my Gundam thread. My thoughts on the episodes can be mainly located here: https://www.facebook.com/robert.hayes.5249/media_set?set=a.1060615947317072.1073741839.100001060297207&type=1&l=b7090795f7 It's current to episode 5.
  16. By Crom! The Oak himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, will return as the legendary Cimmerian warrior in The Legend of Conan. According to producer/co-writer Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 3-7, 47 Ronin), the new film will not be a reboot, but a direct sequel to Conan the Barbarian (thus making Conan the Destroyer non-canon). Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Legend of Conan Will Be Brutal Sequel, Bringing Back Some Original Cast
  17. Turbo Kid EMA Films/Timpson Films/Epic Pictures Group, 2015 Written and Directed by François Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell Running Time: 95 minutes Rated R for extreme violence and profanity. Cast Munro Chambers as The Kid Laurence Leboeuf as Apple Michael Ironside (Richter in Total Recall, Katana in Highlander II) as Zeus Edwin Wright as Skeletron Aaron Jeffery (Thomas Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Frederick Romano Orzari as Bagu Synopsis It is the year 1997. Wars and nuclear fallout have created a post-apocalyptic society called "The Wasteland", ruled by the tyrannical Zeus. A lone teenage scavenger known only as The Kid spends his days riding his BMX bike and trading junk for supplies and issues of Turbo Rider, a comic book from the old civilization. One day, he meets a girl named Apple and reluctantly brings her to scavenging trips after she entraps him with a tracking device. But after Apple is kidnapped by a bandit, The Kid stumbles upon a crashed ship, where he discovers and puts on the suit of his childhood hero. Using his new abilities, Turbo Kid races to save his girl from execution at the hands of Zeus. Lowdown Much like Kung Fury, Turbo Kid is a love letter to the '80s - particularly the action and sci-fi B-movies of that decade. The sets look simple, the cinematography feels like a Cannon film, the costumes are loud in color, and the acting is over the top. Being also a tribute to Peter Jackson's earlier works, this film is an extreme splatter fest that rivals Bad Taste and perhaps even Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. The CG effects add to the overall cheesiness. Of all the cast members, Laurence Labeouf steals the show as Apple, a rather schizophrenic girl with Jem hair and makeup. Michael Ironside really hams it up as the main antagonist Zeus. But if there's one thing that seals the deal, it's the music. The synthpop score by Le Matos is simply mesmerizing, with shades of John Carpenter and Jan Hammer. It easily rivals Mitch Murder and Lost Years' works for Kung Fury. The cast of Turbo Kid know it's silly, but they just roll with it. And in the end, it comes off as one of the most rad movies to come from the independent scene. Rating: A- Links Official Turbo Kid Website Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 88% - "A nostalgic ode to kids' movies of yesteryear, Turbo Kid eyes the past through an entertaining -- albeit surprisingly gory -- postmodern lens." 18. So, after catching Higlander (the one, and should have been only) on late night cable tonight, it server to re-affirm my belief that.. Clancy Brown - THE KURGAN is the absolute baddest badguy of all time. Recently we have had the chance to see him play evil all over again in Carnivale. Dude still packs the gear to play a fantastic evil bastard. So, who's your vote and why?
  19. Set for release on June 6, 2014 is Edge of Tomorrow, the Hollywood adaptation of the sci-fi novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Directed by Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper) the film stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. The screenplay was originally written by Dante Harper, but it underwent numerous revisions under Joby Harold (Awake), Steve Kloves (the Harry Potter series, The Amazing Spider-Man), Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, The Wolverine), Tim Kring (Crossing Jordan, Heroes), Jez Butterworth (Fair Game), Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek). This is already not a good sign. And here's the first set of teaser posters: Edge of Tomorrow @ IMDb
  20. I don't think that this thread already exists, so here we go. (if it does exist, let me know) One simple rule. ROBOTECH is off limits. Just trying to save Azrael some time. You can slag off at a whole franchise, one branch of it or even just one season. So lets slaughter the sacred cows. A few dishonourable mentions first. GALACTICA 1980 - Words can't describe how bad this was. At least we knew that they weren't wasting any money on it. (Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep) For a good read about how shabby the effort was, check out this wiki. EARTH 2 - One of the worst examples of poor SF from the 90's. The only saving grace was that there were at least a few good ideas in the show. To bad that nobody knew how to bring them to the small screen properly. STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE - Ok, ok, babes must be in catsuits, we get it.... AND THE ABSOLUTE WORST - SEAQUEST DSV A really, really poor effort at an SF series. Seems that the cast hated it about as much as the audiences. I think it was that tacked-on environmentalism crap that really hurt the show, and by the time they tried to drop it it was too late. And they made three seasons of the garbage. OMFG. Taksraven
  21. Long before The Asylum existed, there was Cannon Films. After being sold to Israeli cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, Cannon Films churned out some of the shittiest movies ever produced on a monthly (sometimes even weekly) basis in the 1980s. They were the kings of the B-movie genre, releasing guilty pleasures such as Sho Kosugi's Ninja Trilogy, Chuck Norris' Missing in Action trilogy, Charles Bronson's Death Wish saga, Sylvester Stallone's Cobra and Over the Top, and the American Ninja pentalogy. But that's not all - Cannon was responsible for Masters of the Universe and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, as well as Robotech: The Untold Story. And who could ever forget their dance classics Breakin' and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo? To celebrate this fabled production studio, a documentary was released in 2014. Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films features interviews with stars who either made their big break or went broke with Cannon such as Michael "American Ninja" Dudikoff, Dolph "He-Man" Lundgren, Bo Derek (still a "10" for her age), Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson, Marina "Counselor Troi" Sirtis, Alex "Bill S. Preston, ESQ" Winter, and more. Much like Tim Burton's biopic on Ed Wood, this documentary has received critical acclaim worldwide. So what were your favorite Cannon films? Official Facebook Page Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 93% - "Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films pays tribute to the titular studio with an affectionate look back that's arguably more entertaining than much of Cannon's own B-movie product."
  22. Waddling into a cinema near you Another film on the penguin theme is Happy Feet (December), a computer-animated comedy by George Miller that tells the tale of an emperor penguin who tries making up for his lack of singing ability by tap dancing his way across the permafrost. (Miller is also in pre-production for Mad Max 4, which, let's face it, is the news we really want to hear.) He's also been quoted in non-online publications that the film is back in pre-production, with full production starting by the end of the year.
  23. Ex Machina is an upcoming sci-fi thriller by writer/director Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Dredd), starring Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Prince John in Robin Hood), and Alicia Vikander (Kitty in Anna Karenina, Gaby in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.). It premieres on January 23, 2015 in the UK and April 10, 2015 in the U.S. Ex Machina @ IMDb
  24. Following the critical and commercial success of Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino announced another Western, titled The Hateful Eight. The title is a play on The Magnificent Seven (the American remake of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai). As usual with every Tarantino film, this will have Samuel L. Jackson in it. What will make this completely different from every Tarantino film is a dedicated soundtrack score. In the past, Tarantino would create a playlist of songs for a film instead of hiring a film score composer. For The Hateful Eight, legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone (The Man with No Name Trilogy, The Untouchables) will provide the orchestral score. The Hateful Eight premieres in 70mm format theaters in Christmas 2015 and in regular theaters on January 6, 2016.
