  1. I usually do a horror movie marathon for the month of October and try to catch up on any stuff I've missed in the last year or so. This year I went with some classics, some favorites *, and a few I haven't seen yet. Going to try to get through them all before the 30th. 1. Monkey Shines - 1988 2. Visting Hours - 1982 3. 2LDK - 2003 4. The Sentinel - 1977 5. The Exorcist III - 1990 6. Madman - 1981 7. Humongous - 1982 8. Evil Dead - 2013 9. Trick 'R treat - 2007 * 10. Halloween - 1978 * 11. 3. Prisoners is a suspense-drama film directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Hugh Jackman (like no one here knows who he is...), Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Colter in Source Code), Terrence Howard (James Rhodes in Iron Man, Djay in Hustle & Flow), Viola Davis (Maj. Anderson in Enders Game), Maria Bello (Edie in A History of Violence, Evelyn in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), Melissa Leo (Alice in The Fighter), and Paul Dano (Seth in Looper). In this film, two families' daughters disappear on Thanksgiving night, with the only clue being a run-down RV they were last seen playing around. When police apprehend the RV's owner, the case is thrown out due to no evidence found in the vehicle and the driver having an I.Q. of a 10-year-old. Jackman is pissed, so he takes matters into his own hands and abducts the driver to find the truth about the missing children. The film opened in the U.S. on September 20 at #1 on the box-office. Reviews have been mostly positive (79% on Rotten Tomatoes), with some independent critics comparing the plot to The Dark Knight. There's also been some speculation that Jackman and Gyllenhaal could receive Oscar nominations for their performances. Official Site
  4. Ok someone watched Alien & Prometheus and then went to Mars with a slightly lower budget... The Hardware looks good, though. But the trailer already has more worn tropes than you can shake a flamethrower at.
  5. This Is the End was originally released on June 12 and was met with critical acclaim, with fans and critics calling it the best comedy of Summer 2013 (at least for those who didn't watch The World's End). Directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film is a remake of the 2007 short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse. The film stars Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, along with a whole bunch of other actors, as they must deal with the apocalypse outside James Franco's house. And for those who missed out on the release, Sony Pictures brought it back in theaters on September 6. The rest of the world gets to see it for the first time starting this week. Due to the success of the film, a sequel is in the works. Official Site

The film follows a group of friends who stumble upon an alien invasion while bar-hopping. 9. The Fantastic Four will undergo yet another reboot in 2015, after the 2005 film and its sequel failed to live up to expectations. Josh Trank (Chronicle) has been given the director's chair, while Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass) and Akiva Goldsman (Batman & Robin, Jonah Hex) are on-board as producers. Screenplay is by Michael Green (Green Lantern) and Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows). Filming crew has moved from Vancouver to Louisiana due to better tax incentives. Currently, no actors have been named to portray the Fantastic Four or Doctor Doom, though it was heavily rumored that Michael B. Jordan (Steve in Chronicle) was to be cast as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Miles Teller (Sutter in The Spectacular Now) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, and Allison Williams (Marnie in Girls) as Susan Storm/Invisible Girl. The reboot is scheduled for release on March 6, 2015, and is said to share continuity with the X-Men series after Days of Future Past.
  10. Muppets Most Wanted is the upcoming sequel to the highly acclaimed 2011 film The Muppets. James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller will return as director and writer, respectively. All the main Muppets from the previous film will be back, with Walter having a significantly smaller role. The film stars Ricky Gervais (David Brent in The Office, Dr. McPhee in Night at the Museum 1-2), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy in Modern Family) and Tina Fey (Liz Lemon in 30 Rock). And what's a Muppet movie without cameo appearances? Scheduled to make cameos are Sean "Diddy" Combs (the most overrated rapper/entrepreneur), Celine Dion (some Canadian pop diva), Tom Hiddleston (Loki in Thor and The Avengers), Frank Langella (Robot & Frank), Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City), Danny Trejo (Machete), Usher (he introduced us to Justin Bieber, unfortunately), and Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, Dr. King Schultz in Django Unchained). Muppets Most Wanted is set for release on March 21, 2014. Muppets Most Wanted @ IMDb
  11. Hey look - another Hollywood butchering of Japanese history and folklore. 47 Ronin is a fantasy take on the tale of the Forty-seven Ronin (四十七士), adding witches and giants to the storyline, as well as a gaijin in the form of Keanu Reeves. The film also stars Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat, Heihachi in Tekken), Rinko Kikuchi (Chieko in Babel, Mako in Pacific Rim), Hiroyuki Sanada (Ujio in The Last Samurai, Shingen Yashida in The Wolverine), Tadanobu Asano (Genghis Khan in Mongol, Hogun in Thor), Kou Shibasaki (Mitsuko in Battle Royale), Jin Akanishi (former KAT-TUN member), and Rick "Zombie Boy" Genest (model known for his skeletal tattoos). Might as well call it "The Last Samurai Airbender". Official Site And just to spare Duke the time of posting...
  12. Hmmmm. "Based on the graphic novel". "From the producers of Underworld". Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy. I'm sure that we will get the usual barrage of "No", "Not interested", etc from the haters who are going to hate, but there is enough here to get me interested. It's gotta be better than 1994's "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein", so we will just have to wait and see. Anybody read the graphic novel?
  13. http://www.csmonitor.com/The-Culture/Culture-Cafe/2013/0625/Independence-Day-sequel-Would-Will-Smith-return Not sure if anyone else posted this yet, but looks like a sequel will be on the way and even some of the original cast will be involved. Could be fun, the original is campy as can be but I still watch it from time to time. However looks like Will Smith will not be back for this one.

  23. Strange enough I couldn't find a topic about this movie even though I've been following development of it for a while. So I'll post this trailer for Gravity, the next film by Alfonso Cuarón (who you might know as the director of Children of Men). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufsrgE0BYf0 I can't remember the last time I saw a trailer with this much tension in it. Very excited to see this film.
