  1. You know.. I saw a topic discussing these movies years ago, and the suggestion was for a matchup between a Bearnado, and a Beecano. Also, the Bearantula got mentioned a few times. I cannot believe that this is unrelated.
  2. Glad I'll have a legitimate reason to get the new VF-0S then, I still have two of the first version.
  3. I think the first couple of times, I folded the wings out so I could get a good grip on the upper wing glove, and just pulled it out slowly.
  4. I hope they model one section to be a completely outdated interior, perpetually lit in sunset tones. Plug-suited crew would be pushing things a bit over the top though. That'd be almost like combining mass transit with a maid cafe. Not that I wouldn't expect Japan to do it (or love to see it myself), but still..
  5. They may fit just fine, but I personally don't like the way the Bandai missiles look. They might be accurate to the show for the 171, but I'd much rather have the VF-19 loaded with Arcadia's missiles, especially the high maneuver ones, and the more reasonably sized reaction missiles.
  6. I had kind of resigned myself to not getting one of these, since I admit I wasn't that excited for another YF-29 to begin with. HLJ payment just went through though, so looks like I need to sell off a couple duplicates.
  7. Remember, this is Bandai making aircraft warning markings. I wouldn't expect much past looking pretty at a glance. They also slapped a "DO NOT TOUCH" on the side of the intake in the middle of a blank panel, "ACCESS PANEL INSIDE" in a few assorted places including some random screw cover panels, the knee joint, below the canards, and on every hardpoint, "DANGER" markings all over the shoulder packs which don't actually seem to indicate anything dangerous (except maybe the jagged edges?), and enough jack stand marking points to support a B-52. I'd personally also like to know what a "GUN HOLDBACK INDICATOR" is.. especially as it pertains to a directed energy weapon.
  8. The VF-25G did if I recall, as well as Ozma's, and maybe Isamu's YF-29.
  9. I'd agree, except there's some good entertainment to be had there if you start taking bets on how many flushes it'll take, or which way it'll point the next time it bobs up.
  10. I think this is less about nit-picking the toy, and more about nit-picking Bandai's processes. I honestly don't care about the box, or the wrong markings on the nose, because the toy is awesome regardless. What I do wish is that Bandai would get with it, and actually attempt to do things correctly, instead of passing it off thinking that no one will notice. I mean, they're trying to appease aircraft otaku. I don't know how picky Gundam fans typically get, but Gundams don't have a real life counterpart to use any reference for. Aircraft do, and Bandai in the past has seemed to have an immense inability to grasp the kind of realistic details collectors tend to expect in a high end collectible aircraft. You can't say it's for lack of reference material, with all the detailed drawings Kawamori puts out. Heck, 10 minutes glancing at an aircraft modeling book, or even just google searching aircraft photos would be a good start. Bandai just doesn't seem to want to go to those lengths.
  11. Yeah, it is physically impossible for the leg packs to reach that high, unless they purposefully mis-transformed the entire thing to force them up in the air, or mis-mounted the leg packs at some screwy and impossible angle.
  12. The thing that left me scratching my head the hardest about the v.1 VF-25 was that the entire line essentially depended on sloppy enginering, almost as a key gimmick. The way the assorted super/armor parts attached relied on the fact that there was a ton of slop in the leg attachments. You didn't have to drop the legs one notch at the hip, and raise them one at the knee, because you were expected to just bend the leg around to make the packs fit, without actually detaching or moving any joints. The stresses caused by all this bending and stretching would eventually wind up destroying a lot of the Ozmas, because the huge armor packs would wind up stressing the backplates to the breaking point. Really, some of the sloppiest engineering I've ever seen in a transforming toy, let alone by Bandai. I don't think they really ever planned on making the super or armor packs to begin with, and then tried to shoehorn them onto a toy never designed to hold them. Fortunately for us, they finally got wise to what the fans had come to expect from a Macross toy, and adjusted to be competitive with the market.
  13. I don't know which is funnier.. the guy thinking something might actually be possible, or the fact that HG seems to think there's some remote chance of any of those goals actually having a snowball's chance in hell.
  14. Yeah, I figured they just didn't pay attention. Oh well, it's not like it's a bad detail, they just didn't do the research. The thing that really does stand out is that the ones on the VF-19 Advance are perfectly readable at 1/60, whereas I need a magnifying glass to even have a chance with the 1/48 Hasegawa markings.
  15. I've been trying to read the 1/72 and 1/48 YF-19 Hasegawa decals to see if that's actually what they were, but I need a magnifying glass to see what they say. Honestly, either thing makes sense for the design, but I can't find any of the close up details Kawamori might have drawn.
  16. I just had a funny realization... weren't the diamond openings all over the YF-19's nose lenses for visual sensors? Did they get replaced with thrusters somewhere, or were those always supposed to be thruster exhausts?
  17. I've actually wondered if the box art was made with a pre-production version of the leg packs that were a different shape. I know a lot can be done with photoshop, but the parts dont even look anything like that on the legs. To me, all of the box photos look like the leg parts are either taller, or just attached higher on the legs than they actually can be in real life.
  18. Yeah, Bandai pretty much ate a huge loss with those. Fortunately for us (and unfortunately for our wallets) they learned (Should clarify.. dunno if it was a financial loss, but a loss of respect for a massively sub-par product, maybe.)
  19. I'd grab the VF-19 first just because I have a natural compulsion to own every version. Aside from that though, check your PMs.
  20. Heh... now if Bandai would just re-release the plane they're for, they might actually sell.
  21. Yeah, the engine pack just sprung and flew off until I sharpened the big tab that goes into the bottom side of the wing root. It works ok now, but it's still very easy to pop off. The tabs just look like they were deformed.
  22. It really depends on whether they borked up the molding on the set you get. My pair of wing boosters entirely refused to stay put until I re-defined the tabs by filing/trimming them down. They looked like they had been melted by a hot iron, and had no sharp edges capable of holding onto the slots.
  23. Possibly, but I wouldn't actually expect them to have put that much thought into the markings either way. I'd expect they just copied the markings for the Hasegawa YF-19 kits. It might be some kind of documented ability, but I dont remember the VF-19s in Macross 7 ever using a second seat, even when there was a second person in the cockpit.
  24. Is it bad that now I'm imagining a few members just sitting around waiting for aircraft-related questions to come up, and racing to answer them? Also, a good amount of "looseness" tends to be from Bandai's packing crew not understanding how the things are supposed to fit in the box, let alone how to properly transform them. My super VF-27 was not only completely mis-transformed into fighter, the arms were also assembled entirely backwards.
  25. If you did remove a little material above the canard hinge, it should let the canards angle up, but they would be out of line slightly with the little triangle of leading edge mounted to the fuselage. I might do it anyway, the misaligned edge would probably bother me less than the droopy canards.
