  1. Wow, I thought the deal didn't include any of the television properties. That's... really bizarre to consider the implications of. I'm pretty okay with Disney consolidating Marvel and Star Wars, but bringing in everything else Fox is known for is a bit bonkers.
  2. So the tails knocking the left pack offline is nothing new, and I modified most of my Yamato super packs to correct for it. Given these are knockoffs, I'd be a lot less worried about screwing them up by doing this. Thanks for the review and comparison, it's nice to know they're available. The quality seems decent enough that I might actually pick up a set for customizing into an orange and tan set for a VF-1D.
  3. It's really looking like this is going to be a mid-point between a lot of other designs that came before it. Whether it winds up being the "Goldilocks" point of "just right," or an uneven mash-up that does nothing significantly better than any other version remains to be seen. I'll be happy to give at least one a shot, but the idea of another line of VF-1s to collect doesn't sound like a good idea at all. If they do it in 1/48 or even 1/35 (I'd personally prefer 1/32), it'll make a nice centerpiece, but I'm not replacing my current 1/60 collection any time soon. If Bandai actually does make a few of these, I'll be sorely tempted though. Given the option, I'd be up for the Hikaru 1J, a Roy 1S, VT-1, and VF-1D in 1/48 or 1/35.. provided I can make the space.
  4. Macross pretty much runs on the aerospace development model that dominated the industry in the 50s-70s, where every manufacturer, contractor, and subsidiary was shoveling out new designs as fast as the wind tunnels could be built, and the military was buying all of them, to the point where you had standing fleets of thousands of aircraft of a dozen different varieties, all doing the same jobs. Engine and airframe technology were developing so fast, it made sense to keep pushing out new designs before the old aircraft were even worn out. You also got a wide range of quality out of those designs. You got some wonderful aircraft out of that era, but you also got some horribly short-sighted design decisions that cost a lot of people their lives over time. That being said, I kind of miss the Cold War. Airframe technology has stagnated, and computer technology has grown to the point that we're flying everything well past its intended life cycle, because we can keep upgrading the internals without significantly changing anything about the aircraft carrying around the boxes and weapons. Thankfully for us, Macross is a merchandise-based aircraft industry, so they'll find ways to keep new designs coming, regardless of whether anyone in-universe actually needs them.
  5. Thanks, though I think the comments further down the page were a better read than the parade of twitter fangasms. Looking like a lot of people enjoyed it at least, but I'm still going in with no real expectations.
  6. I admit, I'm almost not worried about spoilers, because they might convince me if it's worth seeing? But I'll see it anyway, so I'm going to try and wait. Overall impressions compared with the other movies would be welcome though, if anyone here has gotten a sneak peak.

So, that one in particular I've seen a few places, but never quite the same twice (quite like actual aircraft in reality ) Is that from one of the old VFX games? Historically speaking, that's like a mashup of a couple old F-14 squadrons, sort of a mix of VF-84 and VF-142 Ghostriders, with hints of VF-41 Black Aces. Truthfully speaking, I would easily buy multiples of any valk in schemes based on real life 1970s F-14 markings, especially if they do the scalloped white underside.

I need them to re-release the super packs so I can grab like a dozen or so sets.
  9. So the fun question I have... how do those missiles compare size-wise to the other reaction missiles we've seen recently? I know they can't be as big as the monstrosities included with the 171 packs, and they look bigger than the ones included with the VF-25 armor packs. Are they roughly the size of the Arcadia missiles included with the YF-19 or Strike VF-1s?
  10. I actually plan on doing a little comparison this weekend with both the Yamato 1/60 and this drawing. One way to tell if they're actually views of a 3D model is whether the details consistently line up between views. As it is, those look consistent enough to potentially be based off of a prototype model, but I actually want to do a direct comparison. Also, I see a lot of lines on the model that aren't intended to be molded details, so I can only assume they're seam lines between parts. Here's the rough and dirty comparison I can do with just MS Paint, but I want to trace the outlines and give a better overlay later. Really does look like an upscaled Yamato 1/60 for the most part, with a few little changes. Backpack looks longer, and the nose looks more streamlined, without the canopy bump. Looks like it has a ton of potential to get even closer to the line art.
  11. Don't want to derail it too much, since it's just for the Arcadia version, but here's a link to the post where I detail the mod. I'm not sure if there's enough room to try something similar on the Bandai one, but I haven't looked at it closely because unlike the Arcadia, I have no idea how to get the wing gloves apart to try something like that.
  12. So, seeing that pic, it occurred to me that there's another reason why the wing glove tabs are hanging out so far... Bandai tweaked the design of where the legs sit in fighter mode. Because they sank the shoulders into the legs, and made the legs taller at that point, they had to spread out the wing glove root edge to allow for the leg to fit. The legs are just wider and taller than the original design had them. It did make for a better leg shape in battroid, but that's the price you pay in fighter. Far as the high speed mode goes... yeah, I'd love to see it gone. Right now? My Bandai VF-19 Advance just as floppy as any of my Arcadias have gotten. In fact, it's worse in a way, because I was able to build a replacement bracket for the Arcadia that mounts the wings on a single pivot. Good luck getting any Bandai product apart to do the same sort of replacement without entirely destroying it. Far as the kites on both wings.. yeah, that's just Bandai being Bandai and not paying attention.
  13. The one Michael used in that episode was a prototype I think, and Bandai's already did produce it, and included it in one of the original v.1 DX VF-25 add-on packs, as well as with one of the VF-27s maybe? I think one of the other episodes showed some other fighters using the standard design. If the missiles and booster do get sold separately as an add-on, yeah, I'm picking up half a dozen sets.
  14. I think it's literally just the final episode or two. It's why they didn't include the missiles with Hayate's regular packs or original fighter, they were only used when he got the fancier custom job at the very end of the series.

Yeah, I was surprised how the entire thing manages to hold together. I transformed it blindly out of the box into fighter mode, and pretty much got everything lined up, but couldn't figure out how the backpack connects without consulting the directions. I'm waiting on a second one to wear the SAP, but for now I'm loving having the fighter mode sitting on my desk. It's definitely like no other Macross design, since it's really not an aircraft so much as a vaguely airplane-ish spacecraft, with bits of aircraft glued on. I kind of love the quirkiness, and it has its own sort of charm. Not my favorite design, but I'm glad to get one that has the same swoopy curved style as the line art. All other things aside, I think that was the biggest thing that turned me off the Evo Toys one. It's definitely in a class by itself in terms of anime magic though. There's literally nothing holding the legs in place except those insanely complex hip joints. I'd love to see a larger scale version to see how much they could improve the mechanism. I do think a few things could use some improvement, but a bigger scale might fix them too. The shifty double-jointed wing hinges are pretty floppy on mine, and could use a little work with alignment.. if I tuck the hinges in all the way forward, the pressure against the upper fuselage causes the wings to angle up on them.. but if I don't, the wings will flop around by the secondary hinge, since there's barely any tension in it. Might be fixable with adding some glue or nail polish to the joint, which looks easily accessible. Think the scariest thing is how fragile the tail pod sliders feel. Have to agree about the lack of careful assembly QC though, there are knife gouges all over the thing where the parts were cut from the sprues.
  16. I mean, it's not a bad idea. If I weren't a compulsive buyer of every version of the YF-19 in existence, I'd probably happily shell out $20-$30 just for a pack with the ordnance and fold booster. As it is, I'm going to aim for at least two of these, and spread the missiles out amongst my 31s. Also, you just know that with a new influx of fold boosters, one of the crafty folks here is going to make adapters to mount it on every valk in existence.
  17. Man, every time this thread gets bumped, I'm scrambling to see if there's any news of the Ba variants yet.
  18. I might be in the minority, but I actually don't even care if they fix the canopy or not. The two piece canopy is more of a boondoggle to the design than anything else, since the actual physical mechanism in the animation is probably impossible. I'm more concerned with fixing the things they goofed up on the Advance to begin with, like the neck paint, sloppy wing mechanism, and that one bulging neck panel underneath. And even if they don't fix those, I'm going to enjoy loading up my VF-31s with rocket pods and stuff.
  19. I'm honestly just amused at the fact that they felt the need to label the things they did, and still got so many of them wrong. Like, I'm not sure if it's a language thing, or just flat refusal to look up a word on google to see what it means. Good thing Bandai doesn't make transformers, or we'd probably get this.
  20. I mean, maybe they'll make it more worthwhile and design something that'll be bigger and more elaborate out of it? Maybe a pair of bikes, and a few figures, or something? I would hope so.. like, I'm fairly certain I can build that set out of parts I've already acquired in an hour or less, and it's pretty much the least interesting set out of the entire selection this round. I don't think the movie was even popular enough to sell much merchandise when it was new. Blech.
  21. See.... I'd be all for them buying up the remaining Star Wars holding Fox owns. Not having that fanfare at the start of TFA was unnerving, and I'd love see them be able to release the original cuts again. If it means we can get more of the complications woven through the assorted Marvel franchises resolved, that's just a bonus.

Yeah, postal service updates across the board have just been nonsense for the past month or so for me. I'll buy something, and I'll see it leave Japan, but I won't get an update on the US side until after they try to deliver it.
  23. So, I don't think that article about Wolverine is recent enough to matter, since it sounds like that ship has already sailed. However, now part of me is wondering what Disney's main motivation for this is. This would give them complete ownership of the entire Star Wars franchise, I think, since Fox retained the distribution rights to ANH in perpetuity. The other part of me is thinking of all the potential they just picked up for the MCU, and how we could theoretically get Deadpool in Infinity War...
  24. Keep in mind this is Bandai we're talking about. The ones who seem willfully ignorant on most things aircraft related, or just flat out don't care if something is accurate or not.
  25. Only problem with being "new from the ground up" doesn't mean it'll actually change size, shape, or function. It'll likely be almost identical until you look at it up close, same as the VF-0. If it improves that much, I'll probably still grab one or two.. hard to say though. I'd love some new schemes.
