This is the difference in "emotionality" I talked about. You spend a lot of words to describe the feelings of the characters, you try to get in their heads and such. I am unable to do this and view things from a simpler point of view, which may even sound sarcastic. And while Alto behaves like a tsundere, you can say he is a different type of tsundere. I can see him being aggressive for two reason: 1) he can go to great lengths to help his friends, so his aggressiveness is meant to deter others from overexploiting him. 2) He is good a piloting (and formerly at acting), but he knows he is not an all-rounder guy. I think you can agree that sometimes speculations about what goes in character's heads are more convoluted than plot theories. Our different kinds of emotionality surely can cause some clash on their own (you are more involved while I am more detatched), but in this case it's a problem of different experience in anime culture. Tsundere it's a term that means someone who is aggressive towards the people he loves before being actually nice. In this regard, I suggest you to question whether you were seeing too much in Alto's reactions. Technically we don't know whether or not Sheryl has been in love before. I must add that famous people like Sheryl are approached by many persons, so Sheryl has a superior social experience, and she show it. The fear of being rejected can be real, and that's why you go slow. It's not shying away from commitment, it's simply good sense. The problem I see with that situation is that Sheryl has too much energy, and thus it is clearly dominating simply by initiative. Alto instead is trying to gain control of his life by chosing to pilot a Valkyrie instead of acting, so he has qualms with a dominating personality. Ranka is meek, but that makes her easygoing. I am troubled in describing psychology at this level. People's behaviour is a mixture of inter-related internal and external factors. Will we see another part (a side or a core) of Sheryl, that is a part of Sheryl that was always there, or another Sheryl, that is she can no longer be the person she was? Regardless, it's still better than hear Sheryl's character being described as inconsistent. That's really comes out of nowhere FV

Sorry, but I think there is some social naivety here Sheryl's strongness has never been a hindrance in getting nearer Alto. Keep in mind that if the purpose of life is transmitting your genes to future generations, stronger genes are always more desirable than others. The strongness causes the initial attraction, which prompts investment in another person. Only after this phase you can relax and act like you will have the support and assistance of the other person without make him feel like you are exploiting him. I am saying this as a general rule of thumb though, there are many things else which can cause attraction, but there is indeed what could be described as "if you want to get, first look like you are able to give". If you look at the anime, the moment Alto seemed closer to Ranka was in ep. 13, and he was telling her "I don't ever know if you are shy or brave". The possibility of "strongness" caused the attraction. FV
