  1. Yep. Retcon originally consisted in filling the gaps See wikipedia for an explanation. The term has more than one meaning. FV
  2. Exactly because of that it's retcon, because at that time Macross Frontier didn't exist and the authors never thought about Fold Quartzes (if they would, we would have already heard of Fold dislocations). A retcon implies that you change past details to fit with new innovations. FV
  3. They focused on the damaged caused to Alto's plane as well. This exchange of blows is a typical scene in samurai movies, I half-expected one of the planes to explode FV
  4. Well, volume #1 came out over a month ago. I don't think there is a show that keeps record sales that long. Volume #2 comes out the 26th. FV
  5. Either this or you die because your weapons will be useless It seems Mamoru Nagano stole Tomino the girl he liked, and that was the source of his depression I suspect the scene will be different. Luca was there when Nanase woke up and summed up what happened lately. Nanase: You did WHAT to Ranka?!? Then Luca was killed with an uzi hidden under the pillow FV
  6. Some times ago someone went as far as editing in wikipedia the summaries of the episodes to include Ranka's death. FV
  7. If you watch Kawamori's anime, he appears to be the former friend type of villain. See: Macross Plus' Guld, Escaflowne's Folken, Aquarion's Toma. FV
  8. Yeah. The Yamato newest toy also shows the best you can get, at least in Fighter mode (not considering the fact that Battroid mode's proportions were different in the anime). GERWALK mode is not the best to see the space available for the legs, though because the parts change while transforming. By the way, I was surprised that in the toy the feet were actually visible from behind, but the lineart in fact never showed some cover for the area. Do you mean in GERWALK mode? There seem to be some verniers on the rear end of the dorsal piece. They don't look much useful for Battroid, though, a design flaw that is corrected by the FAST Packs. FV
  9. Technically, apart from the people in the SDF-1, there were few survivors after the Zentradi bombarded the Earth. Despite this, the Anti-UN did not cease to exist, you can still find them in videogames. They even developed new mecha. FV
  10. The engine block moves forward in GERWALK and Battroid mode. Also the feet retreat inside the calfes while stored in Fighter mode. Yes, the feet provide thrust. FV
  11. This episode actually has more mecha action sequences than the previous episode some very nice new stuff also. FV
  12. I don't read spoilers so I won't quote Magnuskn. Glad to have a way out Anyway, Vajra were influenced into attacking Frontier, but they are not puppets and don't necessarily do Galaxy's biddings. They could attack Frontier even when Galaxy doesn't want it, as demonstrated by ep. 20/21. FV
  13. You are right, I have forgot that. But children shouldn't take the surname of the father? FV
  14. On planet Eden Authors cautioned themselves against fans with a chronometer FV
  15. I don't have read all the posts before in the thread, but I wish to say something in case the thread get locked I have always thought the purpose of a fandom was to be somewhat united. I accept the differences in personal tastes, but there should be some mutual understanding in the benefits of a peaceful common place. Being niche is not actually that cool, and trying to induce guilty trips for liking something in fellow fans is the fastest way to reduce the fandom. If there is someone here who doesn't like something I like, I will discuss and try to explain him what could be liked. Frankly, after years on internet, discussing gives me an ulcer, so I do it sparingly, but nevertheless this is an example of constructive behaviour, because nothing bad comes from being able to appreciate more things. Try to persuade others into disliking something they don't dislike is NOT a constructive behaviour. It's snobby at best. It's OK to say a negative opinion, but keep it brief and don't repeat it in every single post. Never intervene if it looks like you have the strength of the numbers, or give that impression. Have good taste in your negative opinions. Now, about the case of Ranka, the accusations are signs of bad taste. You can say someone is self-centered (and I heard it as back as ep. 12) when he is also ruthless and greedy. Anything less than that it's a murky case that can be won only by sophisms (which are lame). Also Ranka did try and was helpful to others in several circumstances, so more than sophisms you need miracles, or a choir to preach to. FV
  16. As of now, there are several hints that Brera is Ranka's brother (which would mean Ranka's real name is Ranka Sterne). We don't know if authors will throw in a last minute twist, though. FV
  17. These guys have a plan that involves Vajra. If Vajra became unserviceable their plan will be thwarted forever. They are totally dependent on how Vajra are doing, as is Bilrer. This is what you call "real game". Well, it's "real" because it's at a higher level than that of the main characters, but as a game it's almost passive It's consistency with the preceding text. You called for it The plot revolves around the Vajra. It's not "main characters versus corporations", it's "guys and Vajra". As long as authors don't stray too much from the Vajra the plot will still make sense No, 25 chapters. One story per comics. The difference with comics is that with a comics you read the next chapter of the story and you can still feel the story flowing smoothly. If you take instead Macross Frontier, remove OPs, EDs, teasers and eyecatches, and put all the rest together... well, you don't get a long movie, you get a series of disjointed clips. It's the same with other anime. This is why the best structure for an episode is first half talking, second half fighting. Doing the opposite doesn't get good results, although sometimes authors are forced to do it. There could be talking about the evolution of art in itself, and how post-modernism doesn't think of making sense as a strict rule. Putting that aside, I think you should have noticed sometimes that there are anime full of obvious plot-holes and yet have a large following. You can even have people defending the plot-holes, inventing reasons out of the hat. Don't tell any names You see, these anime caused an emotional investment that keep people attracted to them. After they appreciated the anime on the emotional level they will search for logical reasons that justify the attraction. Some anime has a coherent, well thought-out story. Some anime has few fan service. At the end, logical reasons are just excuses we use with other people. They are not the most important part, though, they are not how you get the almighty halo effect. If you pay attention to what Kawamori says, each series actually jumps the shark in its own way The difference of Macross Plus is another. Macross 7 expanded the Supervision Army. Macross Zero expanded the Protoculture intervention in human evolution. Macross Frontier is expanding the importance of Fold dimension. Macross Plus did not expand any of the original concepts. Yet, in Macross Plus songs still save the day (unlike Macross Zero). If you think about it though, Macross Plus and Zero didn't sell that well in Japan compared to the TV series. You know what? Karaoke is a Japanese word. I would take that very seriously FV
