Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
DarrinG replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Survival instincts are severe in most creatures, especially in humans. Often we will kill others or worse in order to stay alive. Not sure 3 men, 2 on the younger side, decide instantly on a woman's word they hardly know to cash it all in. I stay alive on the ship, pick up the panicked lady, we figure out a plan and return to earth... -

Saw it last night and came out more frustrated, confused and disappointed than entertained. YES - It could be that I had 20 years of anticipation and expectations to meet. There was also the pressure that I took the owners of my company to see it on my faith that Ridley would certainly knock it out of the park and they would be impressed. They were not impressed so much. I few compliments and gripes (spoilers): • Compliments - visually stunning. Self operation scene was intense and awesome, my favorite part of the film. The imagination and creativity of future technologies, nicely done. All sets and details were amazing. Gripes- • Beginning flew by too fast, not enough character development, they were in too big a hurry to get somewhere else in the story. • Can Shaw wear a little less foundation makeup? When she looked through the hole in the cave right at the opening I wanted to scrape it off with a knife. Small nitpick, not sure why that one bothered me... • Theron (vickers?) character would not have made the trip to see her dad succeed or fail. She would have stayed on Earth hoping he failed, living a trillionaire lifestyle, hoping they all died, or he died, so she could be rid of him at last. • Gray worm things - just bad, not needed -- or needed a better explanation more than we got. Felt random. Felt cheap too. Of course the actor trying to pet them, talking to them in a goochie-goo voice was TERRIBLE, he was a pure wimp a little while ago! Was one of those - "HEY BUDDY - Don't you watch horror films? That thing is about to eat you! Everyone knows this BUT YOU!" Dumb - badly executed scene(s)... • And for more randomness - the zombie coming alive with super human strength and wreaking havoc in the ship. Either have more crew suffering this fate or none. It comes off as filler, random violence. That character (tattooed, mohawked guy) was pissed right from the beginning, instead of becoming realistically pissed later. How about him become psycho AFTER he gets lost in the caves?? • Scene where David tries to speak to the Engineer. It was shocking how it went, but anti-climactic. He's waking up after a 2,000 year sleep? He says nothing back before tearing everyone up? Its not a flaw, just a let down. • The relationship between the captain and Shaw was not strong enough for him to give his life so instantly on her tired, panicked and exhausted request. And certainly 2 other crew joining in without question, to give their lives based on a lady planetside near death, screaming and ranting was not believable. The captain or 2 crew would have been like "Let's get her on board and figure this thing out and get out of here!" They had no history with her - she could have been a kook for all they know, and they are willing to commit suicide so quickly and without fear or doubt based on one rant? I think I'm kind of brave, but based on what I would have seen and known to that point I am not taking part in ramming my ship and protective home for the past few years into something I know nothing about for someone I know nothing about... • BIG GRIPE - There are multiple ships left! The Engineer would not have cared to chase down Shaw. He would have gone to another ship, tried to awaken some of the his brothers from sleep pods (if there are any left) and tried to fly out of there. Chase down a puny human at that moment? Horrible. Not intelligent storytelling - more like we need the bad guy to chase our main character for a more action packed ending... • And how does Shaw know that by opening the door the thing will attack her attacker? Felt cheesy. Felt like The Blob VS Hellraiser. Was embarrassed. Squid monster didn't need so many mouths and super scary eye things underneath, again felt cheesy. • No need for ending chest burst scene. Felt forced. Like Ridley added it to give in to requests. The Alien looked too big, not just born too, did not like the design - more randomness and cheapness to top the whole thing off... Wish this was not so spot on: -
Where is that dang Phalanx?? I want extras included with it, especially after all this wait...

But he is correct to say they are 1,000% Genuine Yamato... either way...

I'm all for it. Just hope they go RIGHT to the Yamato version 2.2 Legioss / Tread on the first release...

Watched this. Hmmm. I used to be "with it", but from the look of this clip, what I'm with isn't "it". Now what's "it" seems weird and scary to me... --- Or maybe its just cheap, fluffy, sterile, shallow and downright uninteresting to fans that have good taste...

Are they version 1? Or are they version 2? Either way its "1000% Genuine" ha.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261054200345&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123#ht_5527wt_883 (its amazing how close the V1s will look to the V2s if you pose them just right...)

If you're going to touch them - ever - then go with CMs. If you like to display something on a shelf that looks more like the anime you remember go with Toynami...

I just picked up an new Atelier Sai Priss for 2,900 yen - hope that was a good price. I've seen them for a good bit more. If I like it I may try to get the others. Is it 1/6th scale? Since that's what this thread is I hope so... -
Yes, the CMs Pickel-Kun is technically too large for the Revoltech Ingrams --- but its all the more menacing that way... Here are the original photo and photoshopped version. Only spent about 25 minutes photoshopping and liked the effect: The Hot Wheels command cars go great as well. They are diecast, high quality, high fun. I got mine for $10 each but here's one for only $18: http://www.ebay.com/...1#ht_2182wt_759

I'm not a Gundam fan, but do like a few of the mecha designs - a lot. Like the O, Sazabi and Jagd Doga. One other I really liked was the Marasai. I followed the conversion kits for a while but never pulled the trigger. But then I saw a MG Marasai was coming out and was pretty stoked to see it. Then I saw it. Hmmm - maybe its line art accurate, but comparing the Conversion Kit and MG pics side by side I really like the smaller head look of the conversion kit. The conversion kit just looks cooler IMO - thoughts? Do hope they do the Jagd Doga MG though...

After seeing photos of how horrific CMs bomber mode ( with top orange missile racks sticking way up) was I was thankful for the Toynami Beta in many ways. Wished the leg gap was not there in Bomber, but could live with it...

I've been pronouncing it Ta-MI-a (with long i sound) since I was like 10. Not not I can switch now... Do you think a Yamato 1/60 valk would see for more done in the Pro-Modelers wash - or less? Let's say the lines and wash were done very well...

The hips so easily 'gliding' to the out position cheeses me off. ZIP, zip, zip. Stay closed would you! Off color jokes would be too easy here. You guys know what I mean by the sliding hip joints? If that was fixed, make the hips pivot out (so you get a real A stance), add chest cover (that doubles as bomber behind-cockpit-gap filler; EXO - clear up your schedule for this) and add top missile pods --- the toy is a 10 out of 10. I do not mind adding landing gear when changing to idle bomber mode... As for Shadow Beta - 22 people will preorder. The rest will wait to see just how long they go over schedule, and how far the prices will drop on eBay...

Auction sites have made it so you can simply wait 2 years and almost be certain to get it new, at half price. Although -- when a great number of fans decide to go this route, companies often decide to not come out with anything else for that group of fans...

Changed modes to Battroid for the first time on the new TV Skull-1. Tight, tight, tight - EXCEPT - crotch assembly wants to keep popping out, which then opens up the whole back, and then the side covers pop out and the neck cover slides down. The door that shuts it closed just appears to not close tightly - any fixes? Washed hands well before handling but this valk feels like it needs white glove treatment...

Looks like Yamato got the Meltran pilot size / to suit size ratio correct to the line art. But it looks like overall both the Rau and pilot should have been larger compared to their Valks. This goes for their Regult as well. They did think of a clever way to avoid trying to get the pilot's legs into the Rau legs by enlarging the backpack and having her legs slide in there instead. I tried to mock it up in Photoshop, let me know if something looks off...

My green legioss was quite good actually. I say WAS because it was good last time I put it back in the package. When I take it back out the hands will likely crumble for no reason just like my blue. Checked Robotech.com and there is no mention of the Shadow Beta being green lighted at last...

Looking great! Why the chest cannons and tri-barrel lasers though? The Yamato has those, so are these just slight improvements to the existing? And if you paint the Yamato manipulators gray they look pretty darn good as well. Everything you're doing looks great, just curious about a few details is all...

A chest-cover that doubles as a bomber gap-filler? VERY COOL. There is certainly the talent on these boards to pull this off, they just need to the time and fans willing to buy a few. I'm in...

Got my TV Roy. Opening the box was sweet. Thought I would be blinded by the bright white but was not. Glad I sold my only DYRL valk though so the gray I loved is longer around for comparison. Now have the Vermillion Group, the 1D, CF-1A and Skull1. Will consider getting Cavalier and Alaska Base if they come with option parts. Just discovered something new about V2 valks - the red and blue shin lights actually lift up making it easier to lower the back landing gears? Nice - how I did not see this before is funny. These should be in the UP position though I assume for taxiing? Box photos still show rainbow canopy tint, guess they did not want to take new shots. Wish that did not rub off, I liked the canopy colors. Visor looked nicely green, not too black / dark as I feared. Recommend this figure... PS - Yamato, please do a line of 1/48 or 1/60 Legioss, think they would sell well for you...
