  2. Only 15 of them are personal favorites of mine Each voter was supposed to pick up to five songs, and rank them in order. The poll assigned points to each ranking: #1 = 10 points, #2 = 7 points, #3 = 5 points, #4 = 3 points, and #5 = 1 point. If a voter picked songs but didn't rank them, then if they picked only one song, it got 10 points, and if they picked 2-5 songs, each one got 5 points; if they picked more than five songs, then their songs were excluded from the poll. "Cruel Angel's Thesis" did get more points than the song from Aquarion (1549 vs. 780), so in terms of points it was in fact number 1 out of 101 songs. However, it could also mean that out of 157 people, 154 picked it as their #1 and three picked it as their #4, but 780 people picked the Aquarion song as their #5, making the latter the more popular
  3. The show's received four Emmy nominations this year (Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series, Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series): http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=22243
  4. That seems to be right. This is the one between "High School Agent" and "Greed".
  5. In this thread, but I could swear the topic was mentioned even earlier (probably on the old boards). Edit: Found it on the old boards here.
  6. For those interested, the concert was an homage to the movie "Linda Linda Linda".
  7. Time's up "Omoide ga Ippai" (not to be confused with the Ranma 1/2 theme song of the same name) reached #6 on the ORICON music chart in 1983. The song was also apparently used as an homage in one of the end credit sequences to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Speaking of homages: The ENOZ concert in the The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was an homage to what live-action Japanese movie?
  8. What theme song from the TV series Miyuki became a top 10 hit in Japan?
  9. You can always start one in the "Movie and TV Series" section of the forum, if you want a Macross-specific trivia thread.
  10. In case anyone was wondering, the answer was "Dona Dona", which IMHO was the more appropriate and somber song for the Tachikomas to sing than "Akai Kutsu".
  11. At the beginning of Episode 16 of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, "Ag2O", the Tachikomas are singing. However, the song that they sing on the DVD release, "Akai Kutsu" (Red Shoes), is different than the one they originally sang in the TV broadcast. What was the song they originally sang?
  12. Someone on a different board noted a couple of weeks ago that a lot of the characters have Biblical names. I originally dismissed it as not being significant, given that names like "Peter". etc. are relatively common in Western countries with a strong Judeo-Christian background. However, with the revelation of Mr. Bennett's first name, which is a relatively uncommon one, I'm beginning to wonder if there is a thematic significance after all.
  13. Which 80's American actress did Matsumoto Izumi base his design of Madoka Ayukawa on?
  14. Yes, the one with carrots is Mina from the "Densha Otoko" TV series title sequence, which has been spun off into its own anime: Getsumen To Heiki Mina encyclopedia entry at Anime News Network, and the official Japanese website
  15. Macross was Mari Iijima's first job as a VA and professional singer, so casting an unknown wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing
  16. It would be funny if they did a gag version of that scene, and have Edward James Olmos pop up and say "It's too bad she won't live, but then again who does?"
  17. "Robot Carnival" was released with an English dub in North America by Streamline Pictures. Unfortunately, Carl Macek didn't do a 100% faithful translation (adding dialogue where there wasn't any in the original Japanese version, changing some of the titles, replacing the original illustrated ending sequence with a plain black background). I have their LD release, which fortunately includes the original Japanese audio track, but I still wish Animeigo or some other company would release an accurate subtitled version here.
  18. "Dear Graham: WTF is this 'Hory Froating Head" crap?! Sincerely, Shoji Kawamori"
  19. On his Japanese Wikipedia bio, http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%95%B7%E8%...%9C%89%E6%B4%8B, it says that he fell from his parent's apartment, but it's unknown if it was a suicide.
  20. HRG: [in Darth Vader voice] Claire... I am your father! Claire: (about to scream but stops, thinks for a second) Wait, that doesn't really change anything, does it? My vote's for Lindermann.
