OK... so who do you think they'll cast as the EMPEROR or Feyd in part 2?

I bet they'll cast someone non-white for the Emperor but not in a woke sense. Obviously an older actor so Laurence Fishburne or Idris Elba would be my top guesses.

Feyd could be any pretty boy but he would have to be someone well known and who can pull off a villain too. Honestly can't think of one right now, maybe Fionn Whitehead?

I think they should get Sting back to reprise his role.....fog shower scene and everything.  🤣

It's from "Gantz", and that's pretty much all I know.

Looking forward to see your M+ bike.

Siren has the full set of armor now, I just need to do some touch ups on the shield.

I still haven't gotten around to watching this series yet, but that looks fantastic!

I mean, until I'd watched Dune last night I was totally unfamiliar.  Never say the '84 movie, never saw the Sci-Fi miniseries, never read the books.  I might be the minority, but I'm probably not the only one.

Ok that makes sense.  Spoiler tags for a while longer then.

I know they changed a few things from the 1984 version, but I'll see for myself whenever I get around to seeing this remake.

I zoomed and I REGERET NOTHING!! Outstanding looking Excel!

Oh man, the pics didn't look so bad from my cell phone, but I'm looking at the pics on a larger computer screen (which is bigger than the model itself) and I missed SO MUCH STUFF....yikes, the overlapping decals, a lot of paint runs (capillary run from the panel liner under the decals).

It doesn't look nearly as bad when viewed in person.....from a meter a way, lol!

@pengbuzz Major suckage! That's too bad. But I'm glad to see you're salvaging it. I'm in the same spot. I built that 1/48 Dougram Hasty Ironfoot F4X  (Revel Robotech "Gartan") and the skinny internal frame piece that the legs go on broke. The leg halves are thoroughly cemented together too. I saw it might be a problem so I reinforced it some, but I should have gone all out and assumed that sucker would break. Oh well. At least it still stands up on its own ;)

@derex3592 Its looking good so far! I told a fellow modeller in my club about what you did for planking on your deck. He's building a battleship and was stuck how to replicate the wood deck. I told him about your build and what you did. He liked the idea!

@peter That is an EXCELLENT Excelsior! Great shots too. Make me glad I'm not a Klingon!

On a side note, I got no modelling done this weekend, but saw a cool movie with my wife. For all of you IJN Battleship Yamato fans, you may want to see "The Great War of Archimedes." It's a part fiction, part true story of the origins of the battleship Yamato and some of the Imperial Navy's back-room dealings (and ours).  For those of you that don't know, the same way we have international treaties on nuclear weapons today, battleships were under similar treaties back then. That plays a little into the story.I'm sure there are inaccuracies galore in the history of it, but it was fun to watch. My wife even liked the movie which is saying something. It is not a war movie (except the beginning), but it is a good technical and psychological thriller. It is a Toho movie, so its like Godzilla without Godzilla. The lip syncing is a little off too just like the old Godzilla movies, but it was still fun to watch: https://www.military.com/off-duty/movies/2021/04/29/japanese-war-movie-aims-reveal-secrets-of-wwii-battleship-yamato.html

    Enjoy! - MT

I saw that movie!  The few moments where Yamato actually appeared on screen was done beautifully, I just wish there was more screen-time for Yamato.

I have a few Yamato models but I don't have the confidence to build them yet.  The PE work......skill-wise, I'm not there, and effort-wise.....well, I'm lazy AF so I don't know if it will just kill the experience for me, lol!

  6. I got mine off Amazon.co.jp for 35,000JPY plus shipping and import fees.

I think my total was 43,305JPY which works out to about $471.89CAD

Probably one of the more expensive toys I have, but it's not like I go around throwing money at toys like this all the time.

Considering the stand-alone 1J prices are a bit bonkers right now (or at least they were the last time I checked), I think it wasn't too bad.  I love the box cover getting the stand alone ones as well since I can actually see the toy while still on the box.

For my Canadian friends, check AJ once in a while because periodically you get a seller willing to ship to Canada.

I am curious to know if Villeneuve was giving a nod to the idea of having different stages of spice mutation. I think that was one if the ideas that came out of the 84 film that Frank Herbert liked? I recall reading how he was into the big spice tank and created an in-universe reason for it in his later books.

Man, I was really hoping to see his Villeneuve's take on a 3rd stage Navigator.

I haven't seen it yet, might try to sneak out of the house and watch it this week.

Are we concerned about spoilers?  I think most of us are here because we've read the books, or seen the 1984 film or the miniseries?  I clicked on every spoiler message and didn't see anything that surprised me, lol!

  8. AMT 1/1000 USS Excelsior done.

    IMG_20211025_001452.jpg.f892e0a1f6b1a64537bb72232a915d85.jpg

Finished with GCal Aztec Decals meant for the Enterprise B, and a hodgepodge of parts from both NCC2000 and NX2000 versions, so not screen accurate by any means.

The kit was hard for me to build, lots of gaping seams, lots of filling and sanding.  I built this model entirely without magnification so there are a lot of errors, please do not zoom in, lol!

Small Titanic update:  Decking coloring continues slowly and painstakingly.  This morning I attached the first four rigging lines to the main deck utilizing my E-Z Line before I attempt to permanently put it in the hull.  Also began some small deck assemblies.  This model is true old school. There are no sub-assemblies, no snap tight Bandai goodness, tabs that DON'T line parts up right and have to be snipped and sanded then glue the parts together.  And for me, before I go to far, I have to look 3 steps ahead because of the lighting.  It's kind of like driving an old muscle car, without power steering or brakes or any modern comforts... it's looks good, but you have to DRIVE it. No modern BS to help you out!

finally 'Done" after a month of painting, detailing a bit

1/144 Yellow submarine Mk-II Mac Monster- with designation; 01.

I purchased it with some parts pre-assembled, glued and some lightly broken. there was some light warping on one of the arms from the casting.

I believe in both the cartoon and movies only the ones designated 01 and 02 are seen in the episodes we never see the details of the others; 03,04,05, etc

That looks awesome, I think I read somewhere, some online technical manual that only two were deployed aboard the SDF-1?

There's one of these kits for sale on the local Craigslist, wants $460.

@Ignacio Ocamica Wow that Mospeada is a beast!  Loved it when Moscato was starting it up but it was just too big and rich for me - so glad to see someone tackle it and it looks like its in amazing hands!!! Thanks for sharing - can't wait to see the finish beauty.

@peter What scale is that Excelsior?  That's not the old AMT/Ertl one is it?  I love that design and I built that back in my high school days before all the aztec wallpaper decals were around.  Its still one of my favourite designs (not the model though!)  Looking great!

@derex3592 I have that kit too, you're is looking great, I can't wait to see how you finish it up - have you seen that some crazy people actually have it lit up?!?!  That's just unreal magical wizardry.

@pengbuzz I have that old AMT/Ertl X-Wing as well and I remember how much work it was 20yrs ago to make that look decent.  Bravo, I admire your tenacity and its turning out great.  You definitely have more patience that I.

A little more progress on my F-15C.  As with all G.W.H. kits, there are tons of mistakes in the instructions and even pieces but the surface molding is phenomenal!  Overall the fit is pretty great, but there were the usual problems around the intakes and forward fuselage to main body seam gaps to deal with.  Lots of study with Danny Coreman's book to find the right optional pieces and parts to glue as the instructions were definitely of no help and were all over the place - but to GWH's credit, all the optional bits and pieces were there, you just had to find them and glue them appropriately.  Thanks to @David Hingtgen who put me onto these great KA Models (Korean) 3D resin printed engine nozzles, they are quite spectacular in person at this small scale, I might need to do a little more dry brushing to bring some more details out, but when I first saw the kit's nozzles, they are pretty amazing for styrene at this scale, but they don't compare to the aftermarket ones (although with shipping from Korea it wasn't cheap!)

    IMG_2876.JPG.419a6298b2275de2b1ce93fc0a755b7a.JPGIMG_2877.JPG.d9a1cd1fad55243c84f3c25862d7e1b6.JPG

I've been thinking about the camo pattern as I've always liked the slightly feathered edge but at 1/72 scale, that feathered edge needs to be pretty sharp, but not masking sharp.  When I was younger, I could probably free-hand the airbrush, I used to be able to free-hand an airbrush to look like a pencil line / NOT ANYMORE in my old age.  I decided to take the safe route and scan the pattern and scale it to 1/72 scale.  Then I cut out the pattern and used some Tamiya tape rolled into a tube and lightly placed it on the model so it was 1-2mm above the surface of the plane.  I tried to spray directly down perpendicularly to the mask and that 1-2mm did the trick of softening up the demarcation line (it might be exaggerated at 1/72 scale, but I like it this way that its slightly fuzzy).

I'm getting to my favourite part of panel line wash and decaling soon with weathering to follow afterwards.

The Excelsior is 1/1000, and I think it's a retooling of the old one because the saucer and secondary hull have recessed panel lines instead of raised ones.  The nacelles still look like a ribbed condom with the raised panel lines, but I think they are fine enough not to really draw major attention..

That F15 looks amazing, the stencil, wow.  I have a few fighters in my queue, but I've never really ordered aftermarket parts for any of them.  Might consider it those engine nozzles are amazing.

VERY nice super-detailing with the copper wire, silver wire and some bits and sprue! This is one reason I come to the workshop: every time I think of just "doing it OOB", I get my rear-end kicked by folks doing this stuff and I have to up my game! :D

    Speaking of which:

The difference some bits of plastic, tape and paint can make...

Holy crap man, your pilot actually looks like it's FROM Star Wars, no clue what that thing is ERTL included with the kit, lol!
