Macross Frontier Episode 19 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Master Dex replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I have never had any trouble with .mkv at all. Also I play all the stuff on simple Windows Media Player, not Media Player Classic, but the standard Windows Media Player. Granted I do have the k-lite codec pack which has ffdshow and all those thing to make it play smoothly but it still works fine. I have had trouble with .ass file subs like overlapping and such though. I just named the .ass file the same as the video file and both WMP and WMC play them with the subs and they seem to work. The method of attaching the subs to the file that DarkReaper just outlined is interesting because I've never heard of that, I may do that now to solve the overlapping issue. Since GG's subs require a raw without the sponser bits I just edit them out using basic video editing software. -

Actually now that I am watching Macross 7 it isn't bothering me nearly as much as I thought it would. It probably helps though that I have recently grown to really like Fire Bomber music so I am not bothered with hearing it so constantly (thank Frontier ep.17 for that, first time I heard more than just Planet Dance). I am currently 9 episodes in (episode counter in my sig now) and I am finding it to be interesting. It really is a show more focused on the characters of the band rather than the on going Protodevlin conflict happening around them. Of course no liking of the music or tolerance to the story can change the fact that Basara is a stuck up self absorbed jerk, . However I can respect him for being a good singer and somehow a very talented pilot (they never say where he learned to fly... maybe Ray taught him). -

It is interesting how Cloud Nine does a small scale version of what the city ships seem to do in Macross. However I bet they are on a chemical plant, that sounds more like colonial technology, especially since they are on the run. -
I like that VF-19 transformation. I am guessing you have the Macross 7 Remastered episodes available to you. I'll have to remember that if I ever seen something in 7 I like. I am just now watching Macross 7 for the first time (and I am liking it more than I thought I would actually).

Does he say this more consistently? Because I have only seen the first 9 episodes of M7 (the ticker in my sig shows my progress, yes I am planning to watch all of it), and so far I've only seen him do that in ep.1 so I assume he either does it more later or it just became a meme because it is so funny (which it is). -

I did notice it because I take extensive screen shots of mecha action from episodes for my personal collection (I share images if people want them and do screen shot requests as well) however I just didn't bother to say anything. However I am glad someone noticed even though I didn't bothered to point it out. -

This is what I initially thought. It could still be true, but it does seem odd that we are made to focus on these 3 in specific. -

Thank you. Although on observation is it hard to believe they are people cosplaying over the top. I believe they are in fact Vajra but I don't think Ai-kun is one of them, that would be a little too quick. -

I love the space battles in BSG also. I do wish the space battles in Macross were more strategic and not as March puts it 'aim and fire' which it indeed is. However with armaments like the Macross cannon you sure can't argue with results. To quote then Colonal Jack O'neill from Stargate SG-1: "It's a big honkin' space gun, General." -

When I first noticed the missiles coming from the boosters I remember that 3 seem to fire from each booster at once and he fires twice on screen before ejecting Michael's fast packs most likely due to running out. So in that scene we see him fire at least 12 missiles from the engine pods. We don't know if there is more that we didn't see him fire but those were Michael's Fast packs from Gallia 4 and we know Michael didn't use them, however Alto could have used some missiles before finding Sheryl, Michael, and Luca. So for now all we know is the engine pieces on the super packs collectively carry at least 12 missiles. The super pack also has missiles in the 'chest' piece as well. -
It could be but without giving any spoilers if you haven't seen the latest on Macross Frontier it seems less likely and more likely that the name Nome, or even the entire name Sheryl Nome was given to her, so she may not be an blood descendant. However SK and Frontier have thrown us for a loop before so you never know.

I hope for that at the very least because I actually want super parts for Ozma's valk. Of course I've become a lot more accustom to the armor set so I will try to get that as well. Actually I would put my money more on Ozma coming with armor parts and Alto coming with super since they are the trademark of each valk. However since we have seen both use the other then it is still possible they will each get both. The real worry is whether or not additional parts that don't come with the first release valks (if that happens even) will come separate or will they make you have to buy the valk again to get them (which seems to be more likely lately).

I do really like that scene from "Exodus." The idea of jumping right into the planet to send reinforcements, brilliant. Cylons never saw it coming. Yeah it seems in BSG the FTL technology can be utilized in a gravitational field but perhaps its range is hampered. In Macross is seems there is a very good reason why they don't fold in a gravity well. Of course it would have helped if the Macross crew knew why that was a mistake before doing it, lol. -
That is indeed Do you Remember Love?. I forget where I got the song, but it was probably just the OST for DYRL, I'm sure there is one. It starts out the same as it did in the movie.

I've noted the similarity between BSGs FTL technology and Macross fold technology before. I believe since in BSG they seem to have to do multiple jumps just to get anywhere that they don't have the power requirements or even possibly the knowledge of folding farther away with one 'jump.' Both types of FTL are some fashion of folding space, which is what is done by wormholes but in an artificial manner in this case. This is all despite the compendium's explanation of Macross fold technology which I don't tend to go by as much especially when Frontier's redesigned fold aesthetic makes my idea make more sense (I once gave my theory on it back then so I won't describe it here unless someone asks). On that note though by the compendium's definition it sounds a lot more like BSGs FTL drives anyway, but I digress. My point is it seems in Macross the fold system is far more efficient that in BSG but they are different universes so it really is just an interesting similarity. -
It was just an early model it seems. By all the actions it made in the video it seems it was recolored and replaced with what eventually became Ozma's VF-25S with armor pack in episode 1 as the two make almost identical movements.

That first request is part of my avatar, heheh. However it is a cool scene.

Oh yeah completely. I was giving a rather simplistic explanation there without going into details. I think Macross actually does a pretty good job in what it does. The very fact that there is RCS thrusters and verniers shows they aren't ignoring space physics, I never meant to insinuate they were. My point simply meant that one might come up with a misconception from Macross of true space flight because it isn't shown like others. The vehicles in Macross, especially the Valkyries, are so designed that they can move in space in such a unique way that because of the variable nature ends up looking very similar to how it flies in an atmosphere. Although the way they move in each environment is different it is just that the way it is done makes them seem the same and that actually makes the entire system quite efficient. My post actually did give some credence to the fact that the Valks transformation capability does allow it to do things differently than the way other ships move I just didn't elaborate it that well. Of course instead of a 180 a valk can transform to gerwalk and shove the legs forward to reverse its momentum and then use verniers or even switch to battroid and use the inertia of the arms and legs to spin around and start off in another direction, something that is done often actually in the shows. Agreed that is does do this all better than both Star Wars and Star Trek. I mentioned before Star Wars suffers from the effect that all the ships fly like they would in an atmosphere. Star Trek often over emphasizes the vague similarity of space to an ocean which has never been a good comparison (this is something I hope to see improved in the 2009 Star Trek movie since it is under completely different management from the kind of the past). -

That is most likely some pre-production line art Kawamori drew when he was still working out what the VF-25 would actually look like and the how the transformable armor pack would work. -

Technically the VF-22 could carry two reaction warheads in it's internal compartments so that has already been done. -
