  1. Hmm. Well, I think Mech Assault 2 and Fallout 3 are both really fun games. Silly purists.
  2. They're not stiff in Mech Assault yet everyone bitches about those games for that reason. Weird.
  3. Yeah, that's not IN SDF Macross, now is it?
  4. And what about aliens mucking with the evolutionary cycle of earth despite the fossil record to the contrary and giant shape changing aliens being sexually compatible with humans and a million other ridiculous things not the least of which is rocking space aliens to orgasm.
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_sci-fi "Hard science fiction is a category of science fiction characterized by an emphasis on scientific or technical detail, or on scientific accuracy, or on both.[1][2] The term was first used in print in 1957 by P. Schuyler Miller in a review of John W. Campbell, Jr.'s Islands of Space in Astounding Science Fiction.[3][4][5] The complementary term soft science fiction (formed by analogy to "hard science fiction"[6]) first appeared in the late 1970s as a way of describing science fiction in which science is not featured, or violates the scientific understanding at the time of writing." And the opposite: "Soft science fiction, or soft SF, like its complementary opposite hard science fiction, is a descriptive term that points to the role and nature of the science content in a science fiction story. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and early 1980s and indicated SF based not on engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry) but on the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, and so on).[1] Another sense is SF that is more concerned with character, society, or other speculative ideas and themes that are not centrally tied to scientific or engineering speculations. A third sense is SF that is less rigorous in its application of scientific ideas, for example allowing faster-than-light space travel in a setting that otherwise follows more conservative standards." Macross is an excellent example of a series with poorly explained pseudo-mystical technology and is very much more concerned with character and society than it is in realistically predicting the science of the future. Is it a realistic prediction that in 1999 an alien spacecraft piloted by giants will crash on earth giving us the power to create transforming robot jet planes? No. Was it a realistic prediction in the '80s? No. Also, I'm not the one who brought up hard sci-fi originally, I was just disagreeing with the guy who did because Macross is totally not hard sci-fi.
  6. Kids, I said HARD sci-fi, which Macross is totally not.
  7. Give me a break. The troops decided to mutiny based on their love for microwaves and pop culture BASED AROUND A TEENAGE GIRL SINGING. What war in history ever featured beaming a teenage girl's pop song directly to the cockpits of enemy and allied fighters alike? I love Macross, but it is not hard sci-fi.
  8. I'm not criticizing Macross for that. I love Macross, but it's kind of silly and not hard sci-fi.
  9. Yeah all of that stuff was created for the aborted Sentinels TV show, not the comics.
  10. Annnnnd Ford Riley, the screenwriter, was a freelancer, proving my point.
  11. I don't know if you can really call Macross hard sci-fi. Even the original Macross is a show where a teenage girl sings evil aliens into becoming friends with earth. It's kind of sort of Care Bears, you know?
  12. Salary? Dude, they do not usually pay writers and artists on salary. Almost all of them are freelancers.
  13. We have a new podcast at: www.destroyallpodcasts.com It's about the original 1980s 3 part pilot miniseries, The Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye! So, sirs, what do you think?
  14. It's completely redesigned. It doesn't share a single part with the original. Everything fits much better, the transformation works more smoothly, and there's also an extra clip thing included to hold it together better in bike mode. Just sculpted better, better materials, and a big improvement all around.
  15. Mine is fine, for what it's worth. The Proto Garland is still way way better than the the army Garland or any of the other Garlands. I also wanted the Yui.
  16. Sure... if HG were a publically traded company.
  17. You don't have to find her attractive for her to be the protagonist.
  18. Basara doesn't develop much as a character because Mylene is the main character and she develops a lot.
  19. Nikaku is not an awesome store for buying toys, it's an awesome store for buying art books and hard to get manga and DVDs.
  20. I'm not shocked to hear Far Out Toys is gone considering how incredibly overpriced they were and considering that the DVDs they sold were all bootlegs. Nikaku always had a much better selection of DVDs and music and it's all legit.
  21. Oh yeah, because it's awesome the way Yamato puts out a really crappy version of a toy and then a few years later puts out an okay version of the same toy, and then a few years later finally puts out a good version! That way you can buy it three times and throw away the older versions when the new one comes out! That's not "milking" a license at all!
  22. Can someone take a picture of the Armored Ozma right next to the Takatoku 1/55 Armored Valkyrie?
  23. The forums have been intermittently broken all day today and all day yesterday between 10 AM Pacific and 6 PM Pacific at least, as that's when I've been trying. It will just hang when I try to enter the forums for a good half hour or hour and then suddenly it will work for a bit and then hang some more.
  24. Someone hasn't seen The Princess Bride.
