  1. Smirk? He's got a pretty stoic face, actually. The GI Gurren Lagann is a pretty cool figure, but in no way worth the price you'd pay for him in my opinion. Hell, I don't think he's worth the price I paid for him and I paid retail with no markup. Still, to each their own.
  2. I can angle my first release out like that if I feel like stretching them. <shrug>. I like the slicked back look, though. My VF-25G is the second tightest of my three Messiah valks, only slightly looser than my RVF-25. theyr'e both really tight in the groin though. Much as I hate to say it, it seem groin lock tightness is a bit of a crapshoot at this point, no matter which version you get. Unless you get the RVF-25, which seems to be overall fine.
  3. Not to be a jerk, but no, he really didn't. Hopefully there's a trick to it.
  4. I hope this is true. I'd prefer this scheme for a two-seater to the straight orange.
  5. This picture makes me very, very, sad Well, no, that's not quite true. In a way, it makes me happy, because I'll be saving money (or at least, earmarking it for something else)
  6. Wonder why it was okay for the Braiger (which was a GARBAGE toy... Still ticked that I bought it per the CDX review...) to be a total "debris field" of swapping parts. <shrug> It IS pretty hilarious to watch Josh get all worked up though.
  7. Prolonged testing has shown that the ONLY hands he can transform with are the closed fists; his poseable open hands wont fit inside the tranzer. So you can keep him PT... as long as you don't mind him not being able to hold anything. It's a minor complaint for me though. Daimos is a very sweet figure.
  8. No, in this case it's probably just a completely new wing and you have to rip the other ones off. Personally, I like nice smooth wings without big honking locking rings on the underside of them.
  9. Unfortunately, it's also one of the things that you wouldn't even think about being a problem, instead being one of those "oh, and grab a bin of the 3x4mm's would you?" type pieces that you'd expect to be fine and may work just fine on prototypes up until it gets jammed into a piece of steel in production. Fortunately it's the screw that's breaking and not the actual shoulder components. A modified hip lock would be rather nice though as it's really the only frowning point I have on the DXs. I may pick apart my alto this weekend and look into modifications since it's an easily accessed and removed piece.
  10. I really hope they step up the plastic choices and tweak some stuff on the 19, because it's in desperate need of some decent plastic (the stuff used on the V2 VF-1 should do nicely) and some fit adjusting. It'll be interesting* to see how these all price out with the costs of production increase since the original 19 came out though... *not in a good way
  11. Hmmm.... is this photo allowed? It does have a 1/60 in it, after all. They're both Kawamori mechs, too
  12. I had a Perfect Change Compact Versions Shin Getter 1 once upon a time. I didn't really like it enough to justify keeping it, though, and sold it off. I also have a SHE unbuilt GaoFighGar and Escaflowne kit ... i'm dreading the time when I have to put those together, hah!
  13. If Yamato makes a VF-1J Stealth I'll definitely be getting one, no quesiton asked . Non canon though it may be, it's by far my favorite paint scheme.
  14. I love the stealth, even though he blends in to my backgrounnd . I'll love it even more if I can get a replacement BP8 from overdrive
  15. Took this photo for someone who wanted a size comparison between 1/60 and 1/48 and it seemed a pity to waste it:
  16. Film, whether digital or film, will always have the capability to capture a greater color range than the eye can see. It's entirely possible that no photo will ever show a non two-tone Luca, even if in natural light the eyes see it that way.
  17. Does anyone have any suggestions for or experience with tightening hips on the SV-51? If it's feasible (AKA stuff not glued together) I don't have a problem dismantling my Nora, but ever since I got her she's been really loose in legs (no jokes, please ) and she's gotten much worse since then to the point where she wont stand on a slick surface without trying to do the splits. The main bugaboo seems to be the sliding mechanism that allows the hips to move in and out from the body; there's basically no friction at all there. If that was at least a bit tight I could press the hips into the body and they wouldn't move so much.
  18. Mine came with the antennae wrapped down around the two little white fins that are at the top of the backplate so I kind of got it mussed when freeing it. At some point I'll go the hot-water route to get rid of the warping, but it doesn't bother me enough to do it right now. Yes, my right shoulder has what looks like a screwdriver gouge on it, unfortunately. I'm going to fiddle with some of my paints and see if I can come up with at least a close approximation of the sickly greenish off-white that Luca's got plastered all over him.
  19. I agree with everything said above, with the exception of the "keeping it in fighter mode" because I love the RVF-25's headsculpt too much. Curses! Actually, I have to say I prefer both Lucas Fighter mode and Battroid mode to any of the other 25 valks. It must be the odd seafoam green. I'm a sucker for odd colorways. Spinning the radar dish is strangely soothing, too. The modified backplate that everyone was freaking out about earlier was definitely for Luca and the radome, P.S., in case anyone had any doubts.
  20. Got my Luca today. An interesting thing happened. I opened the box in full daylight and there was absolutely no discernable color separation on the figure at all. I put it aside and went to cook dinner, and it got darker. I turned on the lights in my apartment and went back to look at it, and lo and behold, the chestplate, backplate, and wing roots all had the different color separations pictured by posters beforehand. The color of green used is obviously very sensitive to lighting and the colors were probably colormatched in a daylight balanced situation, rather than in flourescent or incandescent lighting. Green is a pretty notorious color for having these problems in production, actually. Ask someone to specify what color a VIA Rail GE P42 locomotive is supposed to be and you'll get everything from seafoam green to dark blue. The color can be a chameleon sometimes.
  21. It's a head wrap to keep the crew on the bridge warm when it's cold out ... no, seriously. It is. I guess their heater broke.
  22. Does anyone else get a kind of sick joy from dismantling their toys to see how they tick? When I observed my Alto was starting to get a bit loose in the hip lock I just ripped apart the entire groin assembly to see what was inside. For those who would want to alter the lock to include a locking bar it would be devilishly easy to cut out a bit of the T-bar to make a "hook" and thread a nice heavy gauge brass rod through the inside of the groin. There's a bit of flexibility in the lock so that it could be locked into position by pulling the hip part down once its in, and then released by pushing up on it again when you want to release it. If a Super Armor Alto gets announced I'll order that one and use this as my modification testbed I'm tempted now to continue dismantling it to see how much I can get apart. If it's easy to get to the waist joint I might look into installing a heavy spring to put some tension there and make it a bit tighter.
  23. Difficult to say. There exists no lineart that shows the VF-25 from a head-on perspective.
  24. Old school meets new school. I still haven't painted more than one of those little figures that come with Irongear... I hope that if Bandai DOES include mini figs to go with the Quarter that they're pre-painted like Ideons ships rather than unbuilt kits like IronGear
