I wouldn't call Tom a liar. Given that we all (including Tom) were told that the same animators of Yukikaze were doing RTSC, and Tommy Yune was saying it would have a Yukikaze look, it seems more like Tom was just misinformed from his co-workers. That wouldn't be his fault. There was never any false pretense he gave in regards to RTSC. Yukikaze was the style they were going for. I know this much... Tom was told that that information, and given the limited amount of information, one would assume that your co-workers were telling the truth. Who would've known that the decision to make it strictly a Korean animated film and cut out the Japanese would hurt the production quality. Also, it does seem there was no good oversight on any production work, as there are several flaws that can be pointed out. I'm sure by the time HG actually got to see them, it was too late to make any changes. RTSC was already outdated the second it was released. And while there are some good elements in it (voice acting was good, music was nice) those things got downgraded by all the other elements that damaged the movie. Isn't there a thread about this already on here somewhere? It's probably an old thread from a couple years ago.

Well, like I said, there's nothing wrong with agreeing with someone, nor does it invalidate what I've said. I can probably point to about half a dozen people here who have the exact same opinions. It's not as if they're uncommon sentiments regarding Shadow Chronicles.
-
I criticized Tom Bateman many times. Roommate or not, he was still associated with RTSC. Having the same opinion as someone doesn't necessitate having a "colored opinion", nor does it change the validity of what I say. You can say that again. I never had an apartment back then. BTW, how many times did you come over? If it was only a couple times, I'd say you don't know the whole story, or even a fraction of it. Nevertheless, this conversation doesn't address the topic. As far as how to handle being upset and feeling ripped off, it's simply a show. Not everything is gonna be peachy in every franchise. Even Macross has it's quircks that aren't so great. Hopefully the next installment of Robotech won't be so disastrous.
-
Simply put, no, I wouldn't. If there's one thing Tom kept to himself about, it was his work at HG, and his opinions/differences with the direction they were taking the franchise. I can't speak for you, but I don't have my opinions easily swayed by others. It's the reason why I've always been vocal about my likes/dislikes about certain subjects, well before Tom Bateman was my roommate. While your assumption is interesting, it's focused down an empty hole.

Official MacrossWorld Con 2009 Information Thread
Jasonc replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Awesome, Bee!!! I hit the floor promoting the MWcon already amongst the people at the party last Saturday, so I assume that there will be some that show from the Robotechies. Can't wait to hear more updates. -
Hahaha, he said Row boat Technology. I'm off this week, so I will be finishing up my work on scanlations this week. BTW, is there a release date for the next issue of Macross Ace?

QFT, I was one of them. I never really blasted the show itself, but because I was a moderator on their site, and wasn't all fanboyish about their new product. I was basically demoted, then eventually banned (banned later because I was demoted over some B.S. they wanted to create). Anyways, if you ever read through their website, you'll find areas where Kevin McKeever will always try to paint some rosie picture about how it's just a couple of people that don't like RTSC. Of course, coming from a company voice, that information is about as trustworthy as a conman. It's pretty funny to see how there's no real opposition on their boards...Basically, those that didn't like the new face of Robotech are gone. I don't doubt that there's plenty of fans for the Shadow Chronicles. Many are either fans who are uber fanboys/fangirls and will like anything with a Robotech lable, and others just don't know that there's options out there that are better than what HG has given. Then, there are just normal people who like it just for the fact that it does carry some nostalgia to it, and honestly believe that it's a decent show. I don't doubt the last group, but the first two seem to have a form of blinder on. As far as the predicament presented here, I'd say that the best way to get around wanting to see new Mospeada mecha and stuff, without having to buy into a product you don't necessarily think is worth it, is bittorrent! LOL.. If there was a good product they made, I'd buy it, but up till now, RTSC has only enforced my belief that the current path HG is taking with their franchise isn't something that interest me. I still frequent the site because of friends, and will always be a fan of the original 85 episodes, Sentinels, and even the Robotech Movie from '86 for nostalgia purposes, but what is out as of currently is garbage.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Yeah, you came out like a bandit on those raffles. The after dinner party at Denny's was fun as well. Being able to hand out with the regulars was a good time. Definitely can't wait for the next big shindig. -
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
OK, this was definitely a good time. I'm glad I got to meet you, Macross8511. Now that you know the group (Razorx, Valkyrie22, Reflex Point, and all the other crazy cats), you and your lady will have to hang out with us more often when we have other parties. Most not so "geek fest" orientated. Bee and Exo, glad both of you showed up to the party, even if for a little bit. Yeah, and sorry I didn't bring the Minmay Doll. I just didn't feel comfortable bringing such a high priced valuable over there. With all the kids and stuff, I'm glad I didn't. The highlight was definitely have Michael play his songs again. It's awesome to have him as a friend, and to hear those songs is a treat every time. I'm sure the footage will be on youtube shortly. I was even surprised by the coins handed out by paying the cover charge. Very nice touch. It really makes me long for MWcon 09 coming soon. That's gonna be a blast and a half. I've put the word out through the party about MCcon this year, so hopefully we'll get even more people coming than before. Good time. Thanks to all my friends and newly met ones for coming out. -

OK, that clears that up. And Valkyrie, I sent an email regarding that bit o' drama. Bee, you and Exo and whoever else should stop by. Bring the fiance, and we'll hang out. Call me later if you need directions and all that. I'll be there in the afternoon. -

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Exo, you should meet us out there. We'll be there around 1 or 2. The more Macross people, the merrier. I think the cover is like $20, but perhaps if you eat before hand and don't get the tee and all, you can go for free? I don't know, cause it's not my party, but the cover also covers the band, I think -
Well, in my case, the ex is an ex for a reason. Right now, I have my Misa/Minmay/Ranka/Sheryl/Myun all wrapped up in my wife now. I've never been happier. Back to topic, I think I'm gonna buy one of those shirts, and I'd like one of the Jackets, too. But for now, I have to decide which one I want. Anyways, keep sending those cosplay pics. Those are hot. I'd like to see a full-size Kan in flight suit cosplay. Any of those around?

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Ohhh, it'll be there alright. Hopefully with the red Chinese dress. I will definitely save that for MWcon09. -
Hmmm, well, it's your keyboard, your mouse that you guide here. If it doesn't suit your tastes, later!!! I like to keep the boards I visit strictly to what I'm looking for. I come here for Macross related stuff. If I wanted to spam and waste time sending absolutely mindless messages back and forth, I'd visit somewhere else where that's the norm. I agree with Pete that this thread basically is more comical than anything. The comments are irrelevant, as there is plenty of "off-topic talk". I believe the site to be very well balanced in chatter vs. topic related verbage. I guess some people just feel the need to validate themselves through complaining and making a worthless issue.
-
Just got mine this morning. All I gotta say is,,, freakin' awesome!!! It's great to finally see a 2 seater get the proper love it needs. This is one of the best purchases so far this year. Way to go Yamato.
-
You know, Pete, my ex-wife used to give me the same hassle all the time. How women equate certain things is beyond any comprehension. Especially since you just went on vacation? I have a friend who's kinda in the same situation. He does a lot for his woman, but anytime he wants to do something positive for himself, or use finances for something he needs, she turns it against him to make him feel like he doesn't do enough for her. She'll say things like, "you don't love me, cause you don't take me out like you used to" or "If you thought of me, and cared for me, you'd buy things like cards and flowers". Forget that he spends hundreds of dollars on clothes and taking her out to dinner. She also gives that "you're just using me" line, but in essence, I think that she's really using him. Not to say that it's your situation, but that situation takes me back to the days of the ex as well. Hopefully it all works out. Anyways, back to cosplay, has anyone purchased the Mihoshi Academy shirts? They're pretty good looking, but at $100???

VF-22S Conversion Parts for 1/60 Yamato YF-21
Jasonc replied to PsYcHoDyNaMiX's topic in The Workshop!
Yeah, if you got any updates, that'd be great. Also, I believe I'm on that list, but if not, put me down for 2. I'll be doing a M&M custom set, or perhaps two totally different customs altogether. -
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Awesome. Cheryl and I would like to chip in for that as well. Ther remaining 241st needs to represent, since it's really just a handful of us left. I guess if I put up the $700 Minmay figure, I should bring a "do not touch" sign as well. -
MW CON 2008 picture thread
Jasonc replied to SpacePirateNeko's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
Just doing my duty looking out for my extended family members. Uncle Jasonc to the rescue, hahaha. You know, I still like looking at all the cool pics from 08's MWcon. Can't wait to see what 09 holds. -
Gotcha. I was watching a model buiding presentation, but it was in Japanese. He put weights in his model kit, and I didn't understand why. He used fishing line weights as well. Thanks, now I know (and knowing is half the battle... G.I. Jooooooooeee!!!)
-
yeah, gotta admit, that sounds great. I like the natural flow of the dialogue and speech. Can't wait to see more.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SDF1 LAUNCH PARTY
Jasonc replied to MACROSS8511's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
I just got the confirmation. I think some people are bringing some collectible stuff, so I may bring a 1/5 scale Minmay figure, and perhaps a couple other things. The collection stuff I have isn't really Robotech stuff, but more Macross related only. Perhaps I'll bring a couple other things for people to look at, like the new Yamato VF-1D toy. Ha, free marketing for Yamato. -
Probably a dumb question as one who has done limited models, but why do you weight the nosecone?
-
In regards to the issues that many of you are facing, I've begun to liquidate some of the toylines I don't collect, i.e. G.I.Joe, Transformers, etc. Also, even within my Macross/Robotech collection, I've started to set aside items that I will be selling to offshoot my collecting during these times. While my job is about as solid as can be (knock on wood), learning to be prudent in these times, and perhaps when/if the economy does pick-up will help stabilize my wallet, and perhaps everyone else's wallet in future. Eating out less, and selling toys of less interest to buy toys of more interest has helped me to spend less, and still keep my sense of joy in buying toys w/o the guilt. I don't know if that'll work for everyone here, but it seems to work for me. Trust me when I say that I'm pulling for all of you in that hard place. Hope you all get blessed with a proper job, and keep food on the table and roofs over your head... (and valkyries in your collections)
