But there is some kinda flip-up tab here to hold the fins in place that I don't remember the HMR or Yamato's ever had.
They are on the Yamato VT-1 and VE-1. But I never use them since the packs are held securely in place without them, just like the regular VF-1.

Just now, jenius said:It has obvious landing gear in the legs, I think it's a full retool.
The other two in sound force look like half-baked 3D prints with no engineering.
I was about to say that the other 2 look like 3D printed mock ups rather than actual transformable prototypes.

Agree on this. I’m occasionally conflicted on how the Yamato 17 turned out.
The 21 had gorgeous Fighter at expense of Battroid, whereas for the 17, Yamato sort of went midway between both modes.I like the 17 in Fighter as it is, but sometimes when I look at the line art the front end / nosecone of the toy is just so different in comparison!
The 171 requires less anime magic yet it a worse toy than the Yamato 17. Funny how that works.

I don't have my old HM VF-19 at hand to compare. Did Bandai completely retool it for the HMR version?

Hope the 0A maintains the same level of quality as the 0D.

Mylene's VF-11 is my most wanted hero valk that's never gotten a proper transforming release.

Buddy in Japan texted me this right before you posted. It looks great! And actual seated pilots this time! Unlike my empty cockpit 1D.

Jelly. And my favorite version of the -17.
It does look like a freakin’ tank.
But it’s also one that requires a ton of anime magic, even more so than the -21.
Yamato made it work.
I just took out my 171s to set them up in my cases and they were a PITA, even though I only needed to attach the armors. From the wonky leg design to the idiotic swapping wings, it's just not any fun to handle.

Ah, for the assymmetry lovers in the fanbase.

Taking my valks from storage and setting them up on Yeti stands in the moducase is more time consuming than I expected.
Frontier shelf coming along. Nothing is 100% done yet. Just working on getting fighters up on their stands.
Gonna start on Zero/Plus/7 for row 3. Delta gets the bottom row where it belongs.
Even kitties love moducases.

I wish it would hurry up and release HLJ keeps harassing me about my stuff in Private Warehouse.
Just ignore it. The 60 day limit is currently not in effect, so you can keep your stuff in PW however long you want. That's probably why they're constantly hounding people to ship.

Anyone hear anything about an order with Hobby Genki on this one? I'm not too concerned if they don't come through with it, since I got one from HLJ for cheaper, but I'm wondering if they're hurting for supply, or just forgot.
I got mine from them soon after release date.

1/350 original Enterprise. Arrived last week but haven't opened it as I'm still setting up my Moducases when I'm free at home.
Reviews are already up on Youtube and she's a beauty!

The golden age of anime ended when the bubble burst in Japan.
I don't entirely agree with Oshii but I understand where he's coming from.

@MKT - Thanks!!!
I'm tempted of flogging my 1S Hikaru with non SP and getting this... but the potential yellowing on the bright white scares me...
I've had the PF versions of Roy and Hikaru for years now and they're still bright white. I've had way more issues with white either fading or yellowing with Bandai's stuff. I just took my Luca 171 out of storage and the white has clearly faded into something closer to the Yamato DYRL white. Fortunately the fading was uniform throughout so it still looks okay.
Unfortunately, yellowing is always a possibility with any white plastic...

Honestly, I'm really getting used to Bandai's vision of the YF-21 and its proportions. It reminds me a little of an F-35 in the nose, canopy and forward fuselage. in this rendition. I'm looking forward to the PO and getting one in my hands and on my shelf.
Here's a thought: What if this mecha had been imagined and designed within the last few years using computer graphics instead of hand drawn and therefor wasn't using nearly as much anime magic to pull off its presentation in various modes? Would we have gotten something more like this in the first place?
It may be improved upon in the future and I'd welcome that but I'm super excited to get this version now. Being a watcher of Macross back in its incarnation with DYRL, Macross Plus got me back into the franchise when it came out and the YF-21 has been one of my favorite valks ever since.
That's an interesting question. I have no doubt that if Macross Plus was made today the CGI versions of the YF-19 and YF-21 would have quite different proportions with far less anime magic than the hand drawn versions. But not zero anime magic, as even Frontier and Delta used a bit of the ol' anime magic despite existing as CG models.

@Lolicon Those stand look great! Will they also hold the 1:48 DX series? especially the ones holding more then one Valk...?
Those are Yetistands. I never tried them with the DX line, but I don't see why they wouldn't. Yeti did sell DX adapters before he went away.
You can get Archi stands now, which are similar to Yeti and just as good.

That shot of the YF-21 fighter makes me think of the TBD Devastator, probably the worst torpedo plane of WW2.
