    Macross figures

Just got back from out of town and this was waiting for me. So what are my thoughts? Short version: The most disappointing Arcadia Macross purchase I've ever made. I can't recommend it. Longer version: Okay, so she's a 3D printed figure and though technically non-scale, I'd peg her around 1/10 scale. She's right at 15 cm tall with her stand. She comes with a mini screwdriver and a couple of screws; she needs to be screwed into her display stand. Only one screw is needed, but you get two in case you lose one, I guess. I've been wanting a good quality Minmay figure since forever and was hoping this release would finally fill that niche, as the only Minmay figures I own are a tiny CM trading figure and an SQ game prize figure. Unfortunately this falls short. The design/art of the figure is great. Unlike the Gutto kuru figure from years back, this one actually looks exactly like Minmay, as if she was lifted straight out of FB2012. What kills it for me is the fact that, since she's a 3D printed figure, she looks like a 3D printed figure. Instead of being nice and smooth like a standard anime PVC figure, you can see all the banding on the surface where the filament was laid down. Now this is my first 3D printed figure, so maybe my expectations were too high and that this is par for the course for 3D printed figures? Maybe, but at this price point, I think Arcadia should have just produced her as a standard anime PVC figure, with some clear green parts for her big green round jewels. That would have looked 10x better, even as a mid-level quality anime figure. At a distance (more than, say, half a meter away), under normal room lighting, she actually looks great. It's only when you get closer (and have a super bright light for photo taking like I do) that the imperfections really come to light, so to speak. I have her sitting on my desk right now as I type this and she looks nice. So I'm glad to finally have a Minmay figure, but I wish she was better produced (when seen up close).
  2. She does look good. I think I'll sell my Age of Ultron Widow after I receive this one. I kinda wanna trim down my MCU figures too and will probably just keep their Endgame versions, outside the various Iron Man and War Machine armors. I saw the Hulkbuster 2.0 in person a little while back and it was molded in metallic red plastic, and it looked terrible compared to painting it metallic red like they did on the first Hulkbuster. So I think I'll keep the earlier version for that.
  3. Very nice. The regult is probably my favorite HMR release.
  4. Summed up perfectly. Reissues in under a couple of years is also the exception, not the norm. Bandai has many more popular toy lines they can produce instead of "fast tracking" a Macross reissue. 2021 at the earliest if there's a reissue of the 1J.
  5. Oh I thought you were asking about the renewals. Yeah the renewal 27 is the only one I attached it to. Uses the same adapter piece for the fold drive as the old 27.
  6. I'm not the one disagreeing then repeating what was just said. No need for calling people "emotional" for pointing out your bonkers logic.
  7. So what's the problem? I said it took something like three years before we got a renewel VF-25F reissue, then you decided to jump all over it like you were disagreeing. Now you're basically saying the same thing I just said: that it'll be a couple of years before a reissue. Are you just being contrarian for the sake of being disagreeable? We also never got a reissue of the 25G. So let's not pretend that reissues are guaranteed, even for highly sought after items in the aftermarket.
  8. Uh, you know it's been two and a half years since Golion was released, right?
  9. It took like 3 years before Bandai reissued the renewal VF-25F. The DX VF-1J came out just over four months ago. Gonna be a long wait, with no guarantee that Bandai will actually reissue it.
  10. 1J for 35k. Hurry! https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1103292917&ref=list&keyword=マクロス
  11. Excellent start to a collection with two great releases. Side note: I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 earlier and had to beat up some dude named Erebos in the game. Coincidence??? ...Yes.
  12. Still no ejection seat marking.
  13. Crap, turns out I still have one more skull leader unit to work on. Hikaru's rides.
  14. Left and middle were made identically; probably just the lighting making them appear slightly different. Right was the first one to be worked on and just given a simple panel wash, before my obsessiveness took over and made me put more work into the other two. Why did I make two identical? One for fighter and one for battroid, of course. Man, I wish there was an easy way to sand the seam lines off of metal...
  15. Haha it's a real time saver when 99% of the requisite markings are already printed on. Thanks! Probably going to sell the copy I got Bandai'ed on.

  17. I think I'll wait for a PF release. If I'm going to be spending upwards of 40k yen on this, I want the fully tampoed version. And I'm hoping they can give it the same treatment as that sweet-looking PF 0D.
  18. You'll have to notify the sender so they can put in a request to find out what happened to it. If it turns up lost, you'll be reimbursed (if it was insured). The process could take months to complete, so if it's something you really wanted and you don't think it'll be available a few months from now, you might ultimately end up having to buy another one.
  19. So much bad math here. The price increase for the PF vs regular versions has always been around 4000. It's only because previous releases have been web-only and had no retailer discount, included Japanese tax, and whatever mark-up each individual retailer adds on that has made the PF cost more than 4k over the regular versions. Well, not for me since I've managed to weasel discount coupons for most of them. You could avoid most of those charges if you lived in Japan and could order yourself from Arcadia. But you'll stay pay 8% tax. Since the VE-1 is a general retail release, we're getting retailer discounts, no tax being charged, and no additional mark-ups since it's not web exclusive.
  20. I don't want to order this and then have Arcadia announce a PF version next year. Just give me the PF already if I'm shelling out so much money.
