  1. I don't mind the ideas presented in that featurette. It's somewhat original thinking, not too limited by the comics and what else has been put forward in either universe.

So, unlike the rest of you, it seems, I won't be one to completely trash it right now.

I'll wait a bit, see how cheesy it becomes, and THEN trash it.

    :p

  2. It's funny how Tarantino can intentionally use as bad a model shot as is possible (the 747 flyby in Kill Bill) and get nothing but delerious praise, but ILM gets absolutely lambasted when it strives for realism at the limits of SFX technology.

    So very true.

Ooohh..good point. Hey, I also know how LOTR ends, so why doesn't Peter Jack$on get his pudgy, whiskery mug off of Entertainment Tonight and wedge his Kiwi ass onto the first plane back down under. He and WETA can f*ck themselves before I spend another nickle on their many, many DVD releases, toys, swords or any of that other crap.

    Hey, this is fun.

    Also true :)

  3. Thing is, what's the point in centering a game around Ride Armor, if you can't ride with it!

So its gonna be Half Life with inbit.....

No mecha, other than the Ride-less Ride Armor??

    <_<

    No garuntees of that.

I mean, c'mon people. We've seen TWO whole screenshots, and those were of such an early build it's not funny! What's wrong with waiting a bit longer and seeing what develops?

Or is this going to turn out like normal and a complete bash-fest?

  4. I voted for Linna because I like her combat style better than Priss'. Taking advantage of her hardsuits faster nature and quicker reflexes to get the job done, up close and personal like.

The hardsuits are some of the best mecha designs ever, an elegant mix of form and functionality.

The music rocks as well, and I even like the English songs. No, put those pointy knives away. The english songs aren't that bad.

  5. All wars in Macross after Space War I are fought with transforming mecha.

Why? Because all mecha in Macross must transform, that's why!

Need a recon unit? Make it transform first. Need a Destroid? Make it transform first. Need a construction unit? Make it transform first.

So all wars will be fought with transformable mecha, and nothing else.

  6. The two Guyver movies were... engh, for lack of a better term.

The first movie is camp, pure and simple. About halfway through it gives up on any pretensions of being a serious movie and shoots straight for the camp. A rapping Zoanoid is an image that takes a while to work out of your brain...

The second movie is MUCH better. By far. It would be a fantastic film if it was a half hour shorter (right now it's at 127 minutes or so) and if the fight scenes weren't so few and far in between. However, the fight scenes that you do get are nothing short of fantastic. Especially the showdown at the end.

The animated series isn't bad, either. It's dubbing isn't that bad, and it stays pretty accurate to the Manga. Unfortunatly, only 12 half-hour episodes were produced and it leaves the plot seriously hanging. The animation during the first 6 episodes (Act I) is nothing less than stellar for a show as old as it. Act II (episodes 7-12) drop the ball in a serious way, looking like they were animated by Anime Friend.

For a final reccomendation, I'd suggest watching all of the above, if only to complete the Guyver experience. Just don't go in expecting masterpieces, by any stretch of the imagination.

  7. A good place to get the data you ask for is the Robotech RPG put out by Palladium books. The technical descritpions of the the mecha are pretty accurate.

    EDIT:

... or I could just pull out MY copy...

    VAF-6 Alpha: Battloid height 8.75m

    VR- Cyclones: Battloid height: 2.1m

    VBF-1: Battloid height: 10.7m

  8. However, if there was ever anything in the Invid's favour it's their vast numbers and hive mentality.

So what if they lose all of their forward attackers in a missle barrage? There's always more to replace them. And the Invid main tactic in space isn't to take on the mecha one-to-one. They kamikaze and ram themselves into the capital ships.

The main school of thought in Macross (and the REF/ASC) is that mecha fight mecha and capital ships duke it out with capital ships. Invid couldn't care less about that. They'll just throw massive amounts of mecha at their targets and with either win by attirtion or will inflict heavy losses on the other side before losing completely.

  9. Great, great work. I only wish I could do stuff like that and have it turn out as anything other than an unrecognizable mass of glue

Have you ever thought of putting more spines or weapon barrels along the hull? I think the SDF-3 had some of those that made it look like a Zentradi cruiser.

    What scale is it in?

  10. As much as I'd dearly love to make Robotech into a live-action movie, I know that it'd turn out like DYRL: A simplified version with great eye-candy that only fans of the original show could appreciate.

Robotech, and most other anime shows, would best be served as TV series' or mini-series on TV.

However, if I had to pick one, I'd make Detonator Orgun into a live-action movie trilogy. Great show, that.

  11. I know it's a long shot but I'd like to see another story that takes place during SW1. The story would of course have all new characters, Maybe a new squadron of destroid pilots. The story should flow through SW1 like we know it.  A redone battle on Mars from a destroid pilots view would be awsome. We could see all new animation of the mecha we love. Plus we could get some cameos from all of our favorites.

    Idea thief.

Space War 1, as seen from the bow of the Daedalus. Now THAT'S excitement!

We'll never see any show with the Destroids as the main mecha. Destroids don't transform, and EVERY mecha in Macross must transform to be even considered as anything other than a bit-player, it appears.

As for a new show, I'd like to see the actual development of the VF-X series. Not this VF-0 stuff, but the actual trial and prototyping of the VF-1. That would be fun :)
