ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!LMAO!!!!! THAT IS GREAT!!! I should use a similar argument with my girlfriend. See, I'm just starting out with this physical fitness thing. I'm not horribly fat, but I just turned thirty, and noticed the gutt is getting a bit visible and that I haven't moved my sorry butt since high school when I played basketball on the varsity team. So ... having in the past epically failed at sustaining long term work out routines (because I'd go to a fitness club and do everything there was to do for three hours and then everything would hurt the next day and I'd never go back)... I decided to take the slow but steady road. Only 1 kilometer on the exercise bike, 50 sit ups, and using one of those rung/metal things as a temp substitute for weight lifting to get the muscles back to life. But she goes and tells me that I should be doing 10 km a day... and I have been for the last week...but it totally sucks. I feel like I actually don't do anything to loose my gutt, end up being too tired to do my sit ups/ stomach crunches and barely manage the weight rung thingy... Plus - I used to have a routine ever day... but now it's like...10 km..dag...I'm beat... can't do anything the next day... stupid girlfriends ... I should maybe stop listening to her and tell her to get back on her diet which she quit like a month ago... umm... But thank you David for the Cobra Commander twitter link! That is AWESOME! Pete

How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?
VFTF1 replied to turbolover925's topic in Toys
Full disclosure: I am biased in my opinions since I actually do sell Yamato Valkyrie - however - I can give reasons for my opinion that go beyond my bias. I think the most important question is whether or not you intend to collect 1/55 old 1984 Robotech figures. If you do - then of course buy the thing for a thousand bucks. I'm intent on starting a collection of Transformers: Victory toys and I know that they are expensive. I've accepted it and will "get around to it" once I have the money. Maybe I'll find stuff a tad cheaper here or there - but in general it won't be cheap. Same for you if you really want 1/55s. HOWEVER If you're just looking for one nostalgia piece...then... Bandai has reissued other chunky munkies and you can get one of those for a lot less. Why fixate on the VE-1? If you ARE fixated on th VE-1...then... You're just going to have to answer for yourself whether you're necessarily fixated on the VE-1 or...on the chunky 1984 TOY of the VE-1? If you love the VE-1 - then you'd do better to get the Yamato (from me naturally )... If you love the VE-1 1/55 from 1984 - then of course get it. I would say if your heart is in it - go for it. But don't buy it without knowing your options. Given that you seem to not know that Yamato have advanced radically in the production of Valkyrie since the original 1/60 (which yes, you did have to "take apart") - then I am assuming you don't know all your options. 1000 USD can get you a great collection of Yamato valkyrie (from me of course;) - VF-1s and VE-1s. A VF-1 from Yamato is usually around 100 bucks. I sell them for 110 shipped. Other people might have better prices. The VE-1 is coming soon from Yamato. But again - it's your choice. If you love the chunky 1/55 as you say- then go for it Pete -
How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?
VFTF1 replied to turbolover925's topic in Toys
That was true about 10 years ago. I highly recomend you check out the 1/48 and 1/60 version 2.0 Yamatos before spending a thousand dollars on a 1/55... Yamato valkyrie don't need to be taken apart to transform. They've developed perfect transformation and the sculpts are totally redone and anime/line art accurate. But to each his own Pete -
How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?
VFTF1 replied to turbolover925's topic in Toys
If you don't already collect and you're just a fan, my suggestion would be to save yourself the money and get a Yamato Valkyrie instead Pete Edit: OMG! Am I alone in thinking that this phrase sounds very surrealistic: -
How much is the Bandai Elintseeker 1984 Valkyrie MISB worth?
VFTF1 replied to turbolover925's topic in Toys
If you love chunkies and have a collection of other 1984 Valkyrie or really want to start one then give him the thousand dollars. If you just want a nice Elintseeker, get the Yamato version which is coming soon. pete -
Same here - it's just that you get to add to your title in a kind of "sub-title" or "sub-heading" sort of thingy. Pete

See... and now we're getting into exactly the discussion that is ongoing in the Robotech/HG license thread - where all of this is being covered... in fact - if I recall - there was even discussion of what a live action VF-1 would look like, whether it would/could be called a VF-1 etc etc. It's all in a pre-existing and still open (and pinned) thread. Also - forgive me for being a horrible party pooper - but this thread title is horrible: it doesn't suggest anything...it's like me opening a thread in the toy section that reads: "If Macross Frontier is good, what will happen with" or "If it rains on Teusday, I will go to" Pete (going to get beat up for being a grouch...I know...) Edit: Gaurdian technically does have a nice ring to it; I'll give you that. But since I watch Macross in the Japanese original, without dubs, and with subs, then I am also more used to hearing words like Gerwalk spoken with Japanese words/sentences around them. And since I don't understand any of the Japanese anyways - it all sounds "strange" to me - Gerwalk + everything else. But since Gerwalk actually means something (aka it's shorthand for a longer technical name) - then I accept that. And finally - what is the logic behind calling it a Guardian anyways? Can't it "gaurd" thing in Battroid mode just as easily?
-
I think most of the anger at Harmony Gold has very little to do with Robotech and more to do with what they have been doing more recently insofar as threatening retailers and trying to stop people selling and purchasing Macross products. As for the name Gerwalk... what is so embarassing about it? Pete
-
Well... technically there is a thread discussing Toynami's VF-1 - but that's only because Toynami itself says those are DYRL VF-1s and doesn't label them as Robotech (unless I'm mistaken). But your question refers to a possible Robotech toys from the possible Robotech movie, ergo not a Macross toy In any event - I hope the movie isn't made and would not want the toys if it was. Pete EDIT: Well ... so far nobody's locked the thread. Maybe it'll stay open - but again - I think the idea is that this section is supposed to deal with only Macross toys. Looking at precedent, all threads posted here about Masterpiece Robotech toys and Toynami Robotech toys were locked... So I'm guessing this one will be too... It's not a matter of elitism. It's just a matter of posting the thread in the right place. There's a thread discussing Robotech/HG stuff where there's also discussion of the Robotech movie and related matters... I think there might have even been (is?) a Robotech live action movie thread?
-
I have the license for all of it and I have strictly forbiden the word "Robotech" from ever being used again ANYWHERE under punishment of 5 years of hard labor at the North Pole. Pete

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they make Endless Eight figures too - and only endless eight figures for eight months straight Pete
-
You should definitely see Masterforce. The core issue of that series is actually pretty amazing. Transformers want to be like humans so they develop pretender technology. Meanwhile, humans want to be like robots and use the Godmaster technology to achieve this aim. It's very interesting. Pete
-
Well, I have taken advantage of the "Endless Eight" 'fiasco' in Haruhi Suzumiya to do something I should have done ages ago but there was always something more interesting or pressing to do... Namely: I've just gone and watched episode 1 of Transformers: Victory and am now downloading episode 2. To keep things kind of sentimental, I've also gone and watched More Than Meets The Eye part 1 as well. It's very very interesting to watch Transformers this way because you get to see how much had changed from Fight Super Robot Lifeform through victory - or rather - how much HADN'T changed and how even in this crazy little kiddie robot show, there was continuity and some kind of basic understanding of continuity. First of all - I am happy that we get the explanation that there is now a Galactic Alliance to fight Destrons; and Star Saber is the commander of the Alliance's Military wing. So - he is not 'Autobot leader' as such, but simply the supreme commander of the Galactic Alliance. It was also enjoyable to see either Wreck Gar or at very least a Junkion living on...er...that alien...planet...that decided to...model itself on a Western flick I have to think that those were Junkions who just loved westerns and decided to colonize a barren world, build a church and a bar and enjoy their country livin' lifestyle? Anyways... It was also good to see Ginrai - although I know what will happen to him...and that's kind of a shame because insofar as I understand it, there is never any psychological continuity between Victory Leo and Ginrai, is there? No latent memories or anything like that? I would hope there would be, since Ginrai in Masterforce was er...well...the main character, and a fairly interesting character to boot. The one thing that somewhat bugs me about Victory - although I think this kind of started in Masterforce (Headmasters still managed to retain the Season 1-3 of the American cartoon feel) is the flashy lights. ... Oh god... It's like the stereotype of "Japanese cartoons" that we see in the Simpsons episode where they fly to Japan and it's just some robot and really really heavy flashing lights that hyptonize and stupefy children To me, it's annoying not so much for being "stupefying" as for just getting in the way. It's just ..I dunno... it's not what I really identify with Transformers. It's very super-robot and although I do understand Transformers are super robots...I guess I never quite liked THOSE kind of super robots where you wave your sword around and multi-colored lights appear to beat your opponent... Speaking of which - I guess the Transformers have all by this point just started ..er... storing everything in Subspace? Or am I thinking to heavily about this? ... I mean...they just reach into the lights and pull out their weapons, or change weapons... The comedy element with the little triceratops is ok. I don't mind it. Just like Jan and Holi... but it is kind of forced. Like - hey! We're the slapstick! Finally, Starsaber's decision to protect Earth, just like Dethzarus' decision to have the Dinosaur Squadron attack the Lunar base seems...well...arbitrary. It's like...there's this huge galactic alliance and whatnot...but... the Earth is still the most important because...er...well...why? Anyways... Dag. Dag. Dag. I must be getting old. Transformers is looking so childish. Although - I must admit that the original cartoon holds up very well. Marvelous story telling. Still diluted and for children - but something that still gives me great joy and is a real sci fi treat in many ways. Pete getting old and crusty

I just want to know one thing: Where is this fabled "blog" of Gubaba's. eh? I mean - this guy goes on these internet tubes and writes all these posts here and there and it's all supposed to be on a blog or something and ...well? Where's this "blog" eh? When I gologed "Gubarbar Blog" I get nothing having anything to do with Marcoss. I'm waiting for this to be explained to me in plane langwage! Pete

Awesome VCR! I was just thinking to myself the other day that VCRs were the pre-cursor to downloading, because you could record stuff from the TV. I remember recording Transformers the Movie when they showed in in the mornings in five parts My mum wouldn't get me the Video, so I just recorded it instead yay me I used to have an Apple II computer - worked perfectly - but I think it got given away to some kid... Err... and ... I am disapointed that no one in this thread has yet written: "And now the circle is complete. I was once the student, now I am the Master." Of course...that would mean that Bandai is ...evil?.... Pete
-
Here's the problem with this: The goal is not to have people "make their own conclusions." The goal is to learn the truth. Of course it is always best when people "make their own conclusions" to get to the truth. However, sometimes, unforutnately - these two wonderful ideals are in conflict with eachother. Also - I think it's unfair that someone who does real work to get to the truth is treated equally as someone who just makes up stories. I like to often times make things up, pretend, play around, write ironic posts, speculate wildly, and gossip. But I am careful to make sure that people know that I am just playing - and if indeed someone takes something I write too seriously, I or others often point out that it's just a joke, or speculation. Shaloom wrote a lot of stuff and expected it to be taken seriously- it all turned out to be basically pulled out of nowhere with no basis in real work. Gubaba did real work - real research - to merely CHECK whether or not the information posted by Shaloom was true. I think Gubaba is entitled to feel a bit let down by the half-hearted "solution" to this situation by (basically) a) being igorned, and then b) being told "oh it was an error now let's stop talking" What it looks like is that this matter is being treated like a debate about subjective judgements. Shaloom likes hamburgers. Gubaba likes cheeseburgers. They went at it and the mods/admins gave them "freedom" to go at it, and "let people come to their own conclusions" about whether cheesburgers are better than hamburgers - and now Gubaba is being a "sore" player because he hasn't gotten a 100% admission that cheeseburgers are better. That is NOT a good analogy to this situation. Rather - it is better to think of it as a debate about health. One person, posing as a doctor, says that if you take pill A, then it will help with your persistant headache problem. Someone else comes along, who is also a doctor, does some research on the pill and tries to warn people that pill A will actually make you vomit uncontrolabbly for a month and a half. In this case, it is not enough to just "let people come to their own conclusion." Either the person who recommended pill A did so out of a sincere error - in which case mea culpa and thank you to the other guy who pointed the error out or... the person does what? Refuses to conceede the point? Let's by gones be bygones? Live and let live? We're not talking about a difference of opinion here - we're talking about facts vs. falsehood and whether or not that falsehood was perpetuated on purpose or not. In general - you are right. In this world, it is asking to much for people to be gentlemen and sincerely apologize, and for a situation on the internet (especially) to be dealt with properly. It is usually more likely that people like Gubaba will be treated like flies and allowed to buzz around in the hope that the wind will blow them elsewhere - and people like Shaloom can go back to running their own playground. But then again - that's kind of like real life - where people also do everything possible to avoid taking personal responsibility and actually making an effort to take positive steps to amend a situation. Of course - there are exceptions to the rule. Maybe Macross Generation should consider that it would be good if it were an exception to this sad rule? Pete

Re: Ranka 1/8: Yes - adorable and she will be mine. Oddly enough - I'm planning on posing her next to...Masterpiece Grimlock in apron, bowtie with drink tray I think they'll make a fine pair! My customs agent frontperson - who happens to be an utterly hot blonde - gave me a wierd/dirty look for my cheerleader Haruhi Suzumiya figures. But I know why - she's just jealous that I prefer playing with Figma dolls to oogling at her. Women are soooo shallows sometimes "Look at me! Not the dolls!" Pete

I dunno. Here in Poland there was a schism in the Transformers community, and four people left the local Transformers board in an uproar and set up their own website. One year later, that "local Transformers board" has more automatic porn spam adds than members writing in it (and that is not an exageration but literally the truth), while the new website has everybody else except the ONE GUY who was the founder of the old website on it.... The only way Shaloom's MG can survive is NOT through sheeple, but through dedicated fans. Lemme put it another way: What is one thing that makes Macross World so attractive to new members or potential members? Well - look - when you start reading the posts on this website you see: a) people know have a working knowledge of japanese and do extensive translation work on manga, novels and other items b) people who have extensive working knowledge of mecha and even have their own websites detailing mecha specs c) people who have extensive knowledge of collectable goods, large picture galleries of collections, reviews of products that are detailed d) a large group of people who sell Macross goods at very good prices and are reliable e) An International Membership - lots of people in Japan. You get a sense that you're part of a really large community here Now - NONE of this would be possible unless there were actually people here with a passion for Macross rather than just a passing interest. From the point of view of a newbie or somebody who just is thinking about becoming a member - what website is more attractive to him? A website with veteran members who are active and offer something interesting... or a website with Shaloom on it, menacingly trying to blot out any mention of this "little misunderstanding?" It's not true - in my view - that Macross Generations will survive with Shaloom just sweeping this under the rug and counting on legions of gulible new fans to come his way or sustain the website. I disagree that people who sign up to a Macross board "just want to talk about Macross" - I think they would love to KNOW something about Macross, and to be better and better informed about all of its' aspects. They will not settle for going "where they can" - they will dig, dig and dig until they find the best place - and if that place ever goes sour - they will go elsewhere. That is why administrators and moderators always work hard to cultivate the proper atmosphere on their boards; to attract the type of people who will make the boards a worthwhile experience for other members. None of us is all knowing - every one of us has some kind of contribution here - but let's not kid ourselves; members like Gubaba and Mr. March go over the bounds of just writing an interseting post here or there. There are also members in the toy forums like Vegas (but not only) who take great pictures of merchandise to give potential buyers a good look at what awaits them. Then there are Jenus's (I think they are his) reviews... There's a ton of stuff on this board from a ton of people who are enthusiastic. This Shaloom affair is a cancer on Macross Generations - and so far it appears that the cancer is killing healthy cells rather than being terminated itself. This will inevitably bring down MG. The site will be dead in a year. That's my prediction, and I'm willing to bet on it. Pete
-
Gubaba - just to be on the safe side - perhaps you should decicate another few months to digging deeper into this mystery? I think it's not settled by a long shot. I mean - even if we accept that Shaloom is lying - then to what end? What dark and sinister plans could he be catching? If we let this go now, and do as Azreal says and go back to our merry ways with this "let them have their website" attitude - then not too far off in the distant future, we will wake up one day and MW will be full of newbie posts proclaiming that Eggnog (sic?) not only wrote MF, but actually came up with the entire Macross concept, and who knows what other fiendish things. You might think I'm being a raving lunatic now, but just wait and see. We'll be invaded I tell you. Over run by hoards of Shaloomed Macross fans who will outnumber us six million to point oh oh oh oh one. However - if you keep working hard, with all of us cheering you on, it will be possible to shine the light of the sun on the darkness of the moon (or at least that side of the moon that is dark, because of course the other side is not dark, unless it's night time). I say keep at it! Until All Are One! Pete

I think that Endless Eight is the best episode yet, because on the one hand nothing extraordinary happens in the episode - however, its' very repetition is the "extraordinary event." As Haruhi says "you can't repeat time" - this is her argument for why they have to do all the things on the list - it's because this is the only time in their lives they will be freshmen in high school (or whatever it's called). Ironically, it is repeated into infinity. Or at least eight times? Is eight in reference to the list of things to do? Pete

I can't remember if I posted a list or not... Anyways, here is my humble Macross Yamato collection: 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru Ichijo 1/60 version 2.0 SDFM/DYRL VF-1S Roy Fokker x 2 VF-1J Hikaru Ichijo x 2 VF-1D Hikaru & Minmei x 2 VF-1A Hikaru Ichijo DYRL x 1 (you can tell I don't like the DYRL designs as much since I only have one unit:P ) VF-1A Max TV (inbound) x ....we'll see how many I keep VF-1A Kakizake TV (inbound) x ....we'll see how many I keep 1/60 other: YF-19 YF-21 VF-11B VF-22 Sturmvogell SV-51 Ivanov SV-51 Nora VF-0A + Ghost Booster Set VF-0S Roy Fokker ...and I think that's all... The rest are Bandai Macross Frontier valkyrie Pete

The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread
VFTF1 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's the best review of any movie I have EVER read ANYWHERE in the history of the universe. Pete -
Yeah... I kind of figure that will be the fate of this thread... but... if it is locked - can someone tell us where to post stuff like this? I mean - it is minimally relevent sorta ... as a kind of marginal-interest item.... Maybe? Pete
-
Just to keep it within the "Anime or Science Fiction" mould - mayhaps this could be a thread where - if people find real life examples of things they've seen/heard only in science fiction or anime - you can go ahead and post them. The one below is what I consider a real life example of some of the main themes in Macross - both SDFM TV and Macross 7. Technically thread is "as close to real life as Macross gets" - so maybe that kind of limits this to Macross...I dunno... I was wondering where to post this. If there's already a thread that this can go in, please lock and I'll just repost there. Some choice quotes from this article: Article is here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090803/wl_time/08599191392800 Please don't get into a geo-political discussion about this region, who did what, who is to blame for what blah blah blah. It's all very interesting, I'm sure, but it'll likely lead to discussion that are outside of the bounds of the rules (aka get into Politics). If you ever run into other examples that very clearly refer to Macross - please post...assuming that this thread lives past the morning Pete
-
I think the only way to get back at the people behind Endless Eight is to just write the same fan commentary over and over and over. Therefore, I hereby announce that this post will be the only thing I write in this thread - over and over - until we actually see something "truly" new in Haruhi Suzumiya. Pete Edit: Although I think that Endless Eight is the best episode yet, because on the one hand nothing extraordinary happens in the episode - however, its' very repetition is the "extraordinary event." As Haruhi says "you can't repeat time" - this is her argument for why they have to do all the things on the list - it's because this is the only time in their lives they will be freshmen in high school (or whatever it's called).
