  1. Dude - you DID mention Robotech - but I wonder if you are even conscious of it. You wrote about the "Zendrad Invid" The Invid are not from Macross- they have nothing to do with Macross. They are part of Robotech, which rips them off from the original anime (not Macross) in which they are called Inbit. Then you went on to say that they need to explain what PC is - whether it's a gas etc ---- ProtoCulture is NOT a substance in Macross - it's an ancient civilization. This is a Macross forum - not a Robotech forum. This topic is about the next Macross series, not the next Robotech series. There is a topic thread about Robotech in the Anime and Science Fiction section. We can tolerate your bad grammar and bad punctuation becaus you're a kid. But we will never tolerate people conflating Robotech and Macross unless they are radical newbies. You've been here long enough that you should AT LEAST realize what the difference between Robotech and Macross is. Pete
  2. Well actually painting Gundams is pretty easy IMO. At least unless I'm totally mistaken - but the best method I've seen (aka easiest) is to spray paint the pieces while they are still on the sprues, since most sprues are uni-color (although more complex kits sometimes have multi-colored sprews). But I just don't have the time to track down paint - spray or otherwise.... I would like to eventually do that, and also finally get around to building diaoramas for my mecha and stuff... Pete
  3. This is something Bandai's SOC have been doing for a long time. Agreed - however, when talking about Valkyrie from Macross, I think those designs lend themselves more to PT than parts-forming. These aren't getter robo. The proportions in battroid mode aren't impossible to achieve, particularly when looking at DYRL you see that the designs are pretty solid. So I think it would actually be HARDER to design good parts forming Valkyrie than to design perfect transformation ones.... I dunno...I guess I have just become acustomed by Bandai to partsforming super robots and perfect transforation for real robots. Macross falls into the latter category and so it gets PT as well. Ultimately it boils down to whether or not the 1:1 proportions are realistic. For Getter Robot, there is no way short of anime magic or SHE's PT which is not anime accurate that that thing can switch between its' three modes because all of the modes presume shrinkage or growth of mass. It's the same with Transformers really. We're never going to get anime accurate PTs because of similar issues. This is especially true if you remember that Marvel Comics anthromorphosized the Diaclone line to make them easier to drawn efficiently - and those then became the basis of the cartoon designs. There was absolutely no consideration of engineering let alone the possibility of making scale models or something of the sort out of those. Clearly therefore those things were not meant for PT. Ever. Pete
  4. Well if you think about it, there are slight differences in pigmentation amongst caucasians, blacks and hispanics and other racial groups/classifications amongst regular Earth people - that is to say there are different "shades" of black and different shades of white. So why wouldn't there be different "shades" of green? In any event- yes, Ranka is a quarter Zendrati - that's true - so no elf ears... As for the green itself - I had always thought that their green color was a result of them spending so much time in dark, murky, humid space ships living lives completely dedicated to war and therefore effectively never dedicated to skin care. They got very little light, and their bodies were constantly genetically manipulated. Thus their sickly, pale greenish colors. That's my explanation for it anyways. This is also why cultured Zentradi like Klan Klan are not longer green - she gets to go to the beach, her skin is exposed to sunlight, she bathes, she tans - she takes care of herself. I never actually interpreted the Zentradi to be literally "green" - I just thought that their skin color was sickly pale puke green because of the attrocious conditions that they lived in. Pete
  5. Re: Ears - I think you just have to take this one along the same lines as the entire DYRL vs SDFM TV "what is canon?" debate and remember that a) it's all an artistic representation or meta-history of a concept and b) generally the designs from DYRL for mecha, uniforms, Exedol and EARS have become the norm. I would however like to note that Ranka does NOT have the Zentran ears, even though she is half Zentran - and a good thing too. I personally don't find the ears very attractive and I think it would have totally ruined Ranka's sex appeal. A record as a combat ace, a terrible hair-do and a wardrobe totally lacking in color coordination? I suddenly do start seeing similarities between these two now that you bring it to my attention... Anyways -I'm going to bed- let's try to get back to the subject of Episode 4, if we can Pete
  6. Oh wow! You guys are great!! Mp3s that I can download direct to my laptop and then straight onto my cell phone!! I'll do this tomorrow - too lazy to go get the stupid USB cord and my phone is in my coat downstairs but this is really nice of you guys!!! Pete
  7. That's a great analogy! I really liked it. But...yeah...I took the liberty of finding the correct thread if Ari- wants to continue this discussion - which I will be glad to: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...0&start=140 Pete
  8. That's not true. I refuse to believe that because the story is TOO well thought out, the characters are TOO well developed and there's way too much thought to the philosophical angles in this series for it to be a happy coincidence. I am aware that the director said that the title of the anime was chosen, amongst other reasons, because it "sounded important" and that the Christian imagery was chosen NOT as a serious statement on Christian theology, but only because Christianity is so alien in Japan (going off the wiki here) - but that doesn't change the fact that this series does an amazing job of raising compelling philosophical and psychological issues while also being an excellent work of story telling and art. And my pet peeve is that the accusation about merchandising fails to take into acount the quality of that merchandise. I mean, I don't know how many crappy EVA toys were ever made - but there are certainly some rather excellent pieces out there.... Pete
  9. What an odd coincidence. I just [re] watched the first two episodes and found myself melancholically wanting a smoke, since (as my thinking goes), the world will end and we're all gonna die anyways. So... you don't get it? Can you elaborate? I mean - what's not to get? You don't like the designs of the EVAs? I think they are spot on given that the EVAs lok like caged in human beings - the armor plating - particularly on 00, looks like it's suffocating the creature inside, like sadistic S&M chains. That's brilliant design given that that's exactly what the EVAs are. The angels look silly? How is it possible that they look silly? They are abstract works of art. Geometrical abstractions - most of them at least - patently excellent enemies. The characters are boring??? That's almost impossible for me to concieve. What is boring about them? All of them are extremely well developed. I'm not going to laundry list it - but do you have any reasons why you find them boring? And WHY do you think that after watching 20 episodes you shouldn't still have a million questions about everything and everybody? Isn't the mark of an excellent story that the further and deeper you go - the more profound and deep the questions that you ask become? Otherwise, the work is shallow. I'm really interested in you giving more details about your impressions because to me - they are shocking. NGE is the all time best serious work of anime that exists bar none. I mean, yeah yeah, Macross is awesome and Gurren Lagann is great, but whenever a non-Otaku asks me about my anime-love, I ALWAYS suggest NGE and use it as THE "example" of excellent anime. It's also beautiful, poetic, tragic, Quixotic and seductive. But this is a conversation for the NGE series thread - Air- : use the search function to find the NGE series thread and maybe please write more about your thoughts in that thread. Pete
  10. Well to be fair, Kaiyodo were the ones who first set the bar very high in terms of poseability - and they have been getting progressively better - I mean, just compare their Revy or "2G" Saber Alter to the later Faulein offerings. And then compare Rei Ayanami or Asuka Langley to Yoko. Asuka especially deserves (and is getting) a remake/upgrade. Her hair is stiff and completely ruins her poseability - I hope the new one has poseable hair. The Haruhi Suzumiya figures are wonderful - although their legs look better in beig/pale skin color and not so good in the dark brownish tan that the Bunny Suzumiya has on account of her bunny girl panty hose. That color really makes the joint work look robotic. But we are being slightly picky because we've been spoiled silly by technological advances. It's like people who complain about Yamato, totally forgetting that once upon a time, they though the 1:72 YF-19 was a work of art. Nowadays it looks like a piece of crap. IN FACT, nowadays, technology is advancing at such a pace in terms of the craftsmanship that there are lots of people who suddenly think the 1:60 YF-19, which was hailed as a work of art when it came out, and was the first Yamato valkyrie I ever bought - is lacking and also a piece of crap and needs a v 2.0. Hah. I mean, I can see why they'd say that - but it's so easy to forget how much lower the bar was set and therefore what our expectations were before the 1:60 YF-19 came out. Seriously. That thing revolutionized my thinking - I don't know about other folks - but for me that thing was a kick in the face that said "hey stupid! LOOK!" And it was 200 bucks back then - and back then 200 bucks was actually a lot of money (nowadays it's practically worthless). Err - anyways - my point is that it's kind of the same with Fraulein and the like. Besides - unless you're a big Idol Master fan, you were probably tuned out of Kaiyodo's exploits for a long time - at least I was. I'd check out Fraulein and all I'd see are Strawberry Shortcakes rejects. Then they started with Queens Blade and the thing is - yeah, I like boobs and ass and all that, but I'm not really into the whole middle ages armor/made/fantasy fetish thing. I don't like the aesthetics of the middle ages or - well, not even the middle ages really but just the whole fantasy thing. I much prefer grungey punk sci-fi - which is why Yoko is my dream girl in many respects. When they finally got around to Haruhi Suzumiya I was thrilled - but Figma just happens to have them beat in the department of variety - since they have done ALL of the main cast from the anime, rather than just the main cast from Adventures of Asahina Mikuru. In terms of how they compare - hard to say because there's no parity. My figma Haruhis are different sculpts to my Fraulein Haruhis. I guess once I have Figma Yuki I can compare her to Fraulein Yuki since both have their uniforms - and I'll see. Figma technically have better stands - but they come at the cost of holes in the backs of the figures. I really want to finally get a Yamato VFM. The thing with the dolls is that I just think that they have the most ghastly joints possible. Revoltech Fraulein and Figma joints are not as bad as the regular doll joints. I mean - remember Yamato's ...what was it 1 like...1:5? Minmey? The HUGE Minmey? I was really excited until I saw the actual doll - and it just totally turned me off. The price was ok - but the doll - no. I prefer them to be poseable action figures. The problem with the dolls is that they are usually sculpted on generic bodies. Now - if the bodies are like Real Action Heros - then we have winners, because there they have body TYPES - like skinny body time etc - but the dolls I'm seeing in pictures are just generic bodies without the accurate proportions of their anime counter parts. I'm going to get my hands on the Neon Genesis Evangelion RAHs and will happily report on them. But these SEGA dolls... just not seeing it - except in the realm of playing with accessories - that is a plus. Pete
  11. There ya go Happy to be of service:) Pete
  12. Aww...shucks. There I was hoping that the newest post in this thread would be about cloth vs. molded clothing instead of sega Don't worry Shaorin - even though I don't collect anime barbie dolls, I DO love anime poseable figure dolls - and I think it's ok to call the figmas and Fraulein Revoltech dolls. In fact, I can proudly say the following: When I turned 30, I stopped smoking, started lifting weights, sold my Transformers and replaced them with dolls! Anyways - do you ONLY collect these kinds of dolls, or do you maybe have Fraulein Revoltech as well? Or VMF from Yamato? Personally, the only kind of dolls I don't really like are the statues - I have one and a second on the way; both of Yoko. And I also have the Gutto Kuro Minmey - but those are two iconic girls for me, and anyways Minmey doesn't have any poseable figures made... In general, I really like poseable sculpted figures because it seems to me that you can get more anime-accurate goodness out of them with the swapable faces and hands and all the accessories. Plus the molded clothes are more accurate because "real cloth" clothing - to me - seems very cheap. Maybe if they actually worked harder on the clothing then I could get into it. But seriously - it looks like the clothing is not high quality. It's like Walmart when it should be designer label I know that's pretty retarded - but if I was going to have a doll with real cloth clothing, then I'd want it well tailored and not done badly. The tailoring looks bad. Whereas molded clothing sculpts are at least vibrant and anime accurate - and the skirts are kind of rubbery (like on my Suzumiya Fraulein) and actually are REMOVABLE on a number of girls. Panties are also there. The one downside on Fraulein is that the butts are not well done - not like VFM anyways. I find that I must photoshop my Figma and Revoltechs - I can't stand to present photos of the girls with joint-cracks - particularly where their behinds are concerned. But photoshoping them is really easy and the figures lend themselves to smooth photoshop work and are very lovely. Finally - the faces and hair on molded figures seem - to me- more anime accurate and cute. Pete
  13. Nice pic Reminds me that I've always wanted an Elgazorene from Yamato - it would be a very very wierd Valkyrie - and what with the VF-11C....It would having something to suck the spiritia out of! Cannon-Fodder spiritia pilots! Mmmmm! Pete
  14. Toynami is that youre having scrambling eggs with the fighting aj but not s. wHy my not him does it bother? Eugimon of earth im thinking is well right said nice two: ANYWAYING: Question perfect transforation is mute because starter threading is talking Toynami 1:100 having swing bars not perfect transformation isnt write not again wrong but just saying you know cuz Toynami is always making the crap. Pete EDIT: CONSPIRACY THEORY: Maybe Shadow Strike is Pizza the Hut from Robotech.com?? PTH DID say he posts on these boards, but refused to disclose who he was Maybe he's been posing as a 12 year old with bad grammar and punctuation for some reason??
  15. Yeah - the "gap" you're talking about is physically impossible to overcome --because it's built wrong. There's no point applying pressure because the piece has no where left to go - unless you want to crack it. It took me a while to figure it out - but there is a right way to do it... Pete
  16. The trick is that you have built in wrong. This happened to me on my original MG Unicorn, and only when I built the Gundam AGAIN when I got the Titanium version (same model, but just coated with shinny metalic finish) did I do it right. Remove the main body from the torso - take that section you're complaining about apart and look in the instructions and make sure it all looks right. And prey you didn't screw up somewhere in the red inner frame... It does work perfectly if it's built correctly and attached correctly. Pete
  17. Since buying my car, I've traditionaly been listening to a radio station which played a combination of music, all the way from electronic to rock and everything in between - most of it pretty good. However, because the radio station constantly broke MW rules about politics, and EVERY bit of commentary was political - and it was a political persuasion that I disagree with - it became progressively annoying (that word is a pun and no further elaboration will be made! ) ... Anyways, at one point one of the political commentars started talking about environmentally friendly toys that she buys for her kids and I had enough. Despite the fact that I really like the music they played - I switched stations and surfed around for something else. I found a great new station which plays something called Chillout Music. Chillout music can basically be said to be anything from smooth jazz to slow rock - there's quite a bit of variety in it, but it's all very sensual, relaxing and basically makes me forget that I'm in a cold, grey, dark second world country and makes me feel like I'm cruising the streets of some tropical resort instead. It's hard to name any specific groups or even songs - but I guess I'm just praising the general genre of Chillout music. Sadly - they have one dude on there who does political commentary as well which totally RUINS the otherwise mellow escapism of this radio station - but I think he's only on like once a week, or maybe they just happened to interview him...anyways - they shouldn't do that because it runs counter to their station's purpose. This post just goes to show that life itself would be better if the whole world lived by MW rules Does anybody here listen to Chill Out music? Is it generally well known and popular and I have only now discovered it - or not? Pete
  18. I think that the problem we're experiencing is a generational one BCZ Shaow Strike is younger than we are, and just uses whatever is now the hip and cool way of writing. To us, it looks uneloquent and devoid of punctuation and grammar - but to millions of others who are Shadow Strike's age, it's a perfectly comprehensible form of communication. Thats why from now on Im going to write also without any punchuasian or gramamar because I want to be hip and cool like the youths of America and so anyways the thing about perfect is that the transformation is ok when it works but not so much when they do it like a series that nobody watched because it needs to be marketed for better practical effect like when I bought some starcsream in his form is not so much of course unless peanuts. Pete
  19. That's what you get when you use primitive time travel devises that actually have to take an entire physical body through time, thereby creating all sorts of havoc. Shows how much he knows. The proper way to time travel is via data transfer - then you as you don't have to go anywhere - you just download future info from the future you, who also stays where they are, and hey presto - you have time traveled. Since you are in all possible times where you are - then you don't actually have to move from one to the other to be there, you just have to give yourself information from the future. Unless, I guess, your goal is to live forever and therefore you keep time traveling to the future after you die, so that you could live - but that is another story, and a complex one. The only good thing about time traveling in the standard way that Macek took, is that in order to go back to your own time, you need to go to bed with a hot upperclass girl with big boobs and a fine ass. Pete
  20. That's a theory I have not heard before. I never got the impression that Gamlin had a crush on Millia - besides, it was Millia who found him, and probably has a crush on him, but is just projecting that crush onto her daughter in the sense of "this is the man I'd choose for myself so I'm chosing him for you." As for what's behind the crush? Well - Gamlin seems to be polite and gentlemanly and a genius pilot - so just like Max... except in reality, Gamlin has an aweful short temper. Max would never scream that much, nor would Max ever let himself get so emotional over things that bother him. The ONLY time I remember Max letting rip was when Misa was injured by one of the unruly and disgruntled citizens who grabbed her, trying to "kidnap" her and the other members of the military to force Global to return them to Earth. Max immediately punched the guy - but there was no bravado in it - and right after he did it, he realized he had made a big mistake. Gamlin, on the other hand, keeps running up to people calling them XAMA!! and making mean faces. He's like a total candidate for being in that movie American Pie or American Beauty or whatever it was called. Nice Mr. Rogers on the outside, psychopathic maniac on the inside But maybe I'm being too harsh on him... I mean, in a sane and normal world he'd kind of be expected to be miffed that some dude in stilleto heels keeps flying into his line of fire singing glam rock... Pete
  21. But it is the morning. It's 7:51 am And yeah...I'm just being hard on Gamlin. He's actually a good choice for Mylene. Pete
  22. I have all three SPEC, with one of them being the EVA-01 renewal version (which is the one you should get as it has improvements from the non renewal). They are the best. The armor is die-cast metal, and it's removable and the inner eva is fully poseable and they are all infinitely the coolest things ever made. Pete
  23. Answer to question: In the SDFM TV series, in the episode where Roy Fokker dies, there is a scene where two technicians/flight crew LOOK into his cockpit. They GASP. WE the audience are not shown what they find. Most likely they found blood and bullet holes. We can deduce this from the fact that later Roy is shown to have been shot. But the audience is never shown any blood in his cockpit. The End. Pete
  24. Well, that's because neither space vampires nor horny lesbians threaten those two all the time But yeah - it's an open question regarding Basara and Mylene... I think though, that while in M7:Dynamite, they stress his "I'm an artist and don't notice women" character, in 7 here it's more ambiguous. Oh - and I love Mylene saying "I hate being indecisive!" given that's precisely what she'll end up being in regard to the upcoming love triangle Well - maybe it's a retro design but internally it's very futuristic? Given the architecture of M7 - which is a mish-mash of famous buildings from various Earth cities, I wouldn't put it past them to be into retro looking stuff from Earth either.... although yeah - just like with Spiritia/Brain science - the writers could have put some effort into this kind of stuff...still, Macross has always been a kind of mirror of the times it was written and not so much a "futuristic" saga... Yeah. Gamlin continues to be a total ass. I mean - remember that Hikaru Ichijo was also a civilian who flew into a combat zone - and Roy's reaction was totally cool and smooth. Smooth enough that not long after, Hikaru joined the military. Gamlin, on the other hand, would make a bad recruiter - all he does is shout and threaten and make mean looking faces. I can't see WHAT Millia sees in him - I mean, he might be a great pilot, but he's mean and, with regard to women, naive. She should have hooked Mylene up with Gamlin's commander. That dude knows how to treat women Pete
  25. They all heard he got off scott free, and what's more the "victim" came back willingly and asked for more Pete
