  1. Upon closer frame by frame examination from that trailer, or at least play/pause/play, the Enterprise IS heavily damaged and re-entering the atmosphere. You can make out the NCC-1701 on the saucer section just as it's ripping away. It also looked like the starboard warp nacelle was shot to hell, but the forward part of the port nacelle was intact. A couple frames forward: we see a starship crashing into the bay with ... not JJ'prise nacelles. They do, however, look a LOT like the refit Enterprise nacelles from TMP: rectangular. I also thought that the angle of the nacelles seemed a bit lower/flatter than those of the JJprise. Whatever it was, it seemed HUGE. I mean, as I saw it crush a lighthouse, it's size seemed closer to what I'd thought a Galaxy class was. Edit: ok, I just noticed Dobber said the same thing about the nacelles a few pages back. One other possible difference I noticed was at the point where it crushed the lighthouse, the main deflector did not look like the Enterprise's dish but more like an inset deflector array a'la the Excelsior.
  2. See if you can use another family member's upgrade and perhaps give them your iPhone. It will be a long time before they can get anything else as you'll have used 2 of the upgrades for your own devices. or... Buy either HTC or Samsung at full price, activate it, then wipe the iPhone and sell it on ebay. You should be able to easily recoup your costs. or... Since you are 6 months beyond your contract signing, you should be eligible for an 'early upgrade', which is basically the 2year discount plus $250. Then wipe and sell the iPhone on ebay. This way, you've basically just extended your contract for an additional 6 months, and you still get the new phone for about $200 off full price. oh, and YES, there will always be something newer and cooler on the way.
  3. Very true regarding the yellowing, although I've heard of a few folks having good luck with Valspar deck clearcoat or some such. Basically, it's a clear urethane or varnish with UV protection, so it'd be a little better than the alternative. That being said, it very likely will never be quite up to new standards ever again. About the best compromise I've seen thus far is putting Lamin-X or RockBlocker film on your headlights when they are brand new.
  4. I think I recall reading about that Alfa (in concept) before. Seems like they were aiming on it being rather budget-friendly too, like $30-$40k or so. My only gripe would be the C-pillar: that's an enormous blind spot behind and to the sides. Other than that, I like it! I even like that they didn't go with the ubiquitous plastic-covered headlights that EVERYone does these days. You know the ones that get all hazy after a couple years? My wife's old 5th gen accord had glass headlights... and not once did they need a haze buffed and polished off of them. My WRX though... it's a constant battle keeping them clear.
  5. vlenhoff... nice ride! It looks rather menacing, peeking out from the darkness like that. Regarding avatars, I just happened to stumble onto an old pic I'd been using on another website: NASIOC as the same user name. If you have an Impreza, then you should be a member there, period. Granted, sometimes they can be... unfriendly.. but such is the 'net. It's more than made up for by the volumes of knowledge contained within. Anyways, if I could draw an avatar as nice as you've done, I wouldn't want to change it either! Last week I picked up a '12 Altima for my wife with the CVT transmission. Weird. The car is quite nice and all, but that shiftless transmission is just... well, it's weird! The missus is very fond of it, but I like my manuals a bit too much to consider it yet.
  6. omg, the exhaust note... it's quite intoxicating to be sure! By far, it's the best sounding 4 cylinder I have ever encountered. At ten years and 150k miles, I have no plans to replace it any time in the forseeable future. I do however *REALLY* want to add an old Miata to the mix. Mazda really does know how to make a car feel fun, and good Miata specimens can be had for under $5k. I was able to dig up a very tiny pic of my actual WRX, now used for my avatar
  7. as requested... it's not mine specifically, but looks the same for the most part (mine is far dirtier). I did lower it about an inch and a half, as I don't go off road that much and WRX's had loads of fender gap. It's like an old bull dog... kinda homely, but it grows on you. That pretty much describes most Subarus though. I can't say enough good things about it. I never thought I would love a car as much as my first-gen RX7's, hence the user name. Lo and behold, the Subie has worked it's way right up there. It's been soooo reliable, fun as could be, yet I can cram all kinds of junk into it and even drive in the snow. A car that begs to be hooned, yet can put on a civilized face and 30 mpg hwy when needed... what more could I ask for?
  8. Yay Subies! I've got a silver '03 WRX myself. Ten years later, and it still gives me a stupid grin every time I drive it. Evidently, I *do* need a turbo for the 40 mile daily commute through the mountains of PA. Speaking of Lutz, didn't he go to Fisker? I swear I read somewhere that he was trying to get them to use the c6 or even ZR1's engine in a Karma, along with some cleaning up of its' lines.
  9. Surely, none of us were shocked to learn Focker grabs a little Heiny before a dogfight... were we?
  10. I think what he was saying is: old does not necessarily mean good, it could be good, but just by virtue of being old doesn't mean it is. The Black Plague is old, and definitely wasn't good, unless you are the grim reaper. Anyways, although Gatsby wasn't my favorite read, I wouldn't go so low as to equate it to Jersey Shore. The basic comparison nonetheless I did find hiLARious!
  11. Some people, myself included, just are not really fans of Apple... just taking a guess at his reasoning though. I find iOS to be rather boring (it's more or less a highly polished app launcher), and if the Surface is anything like the Windows phones have been (glitchy, lack of functions compared to anything made within 5 years, pathetic app availability and performance), I'll be passing on that one really quick. For me, Android has been the most stable, capable, and functional of the mobile platforms. Oh, and don't forget about the Blackberry Playbook. I've never used one, but have heard they're very well designed. Unfortunately, like most things Blackberry these days, I'm going to guess it'll be too little, too late.
  12. gah! and I fell for it! Well at least you didn't spill the beans about the Space Jockeys actually being Predat..... nevermind
  13. The burtonmobile has just under 300hpand does 180 mph? I have a tough time be living that! Maybe both cars are made from unobtainium... or tin foil.
  14. @electric indigo.....um, now that i've just had something spoiled (i think)... could you please pop that into spoiler tags so it doesn't happen to others? many apologies if it's something that's shown up in a trailer i haven't watched yet.
  15. So far as I know, there is only the first episode of an English dub of Macross Zero, done by Dark Horse. A quick search on YouTube for "Macross Zero Dark Horse" should get you there.
  16. Generally, when 'charged (turbo or super), you really do want the better knock resistance of higher octane premium. That's the price we have to pay to have these fun toys. Knocking leads to predetonation, and could ultimately destroy the engine. The best you can do is try to make what you have go further, ie: don't floor it, coast up to stoplights, air up the tires a bit more. Take a search for 'hypermiling' to get some good economy tips. For my WRX, going easy on the go-pedal, bumping up the tire pressure an extra 5psi, and using Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel has netted an extra 60 miles per tank, or in other words, $8.60. Yes, gas here is $4.29 a gallon for premium
  17. ok then, any review... his review, your review, it's all fine by me. I don't read every thread in the forum, so I'm unaware what you're referring to. But having just finished seeing SDFM completely for the first time, I'm kinda excited to know and understand what this is all about, and it seems Wanzerfan and I share that aspect. It's the discussion that's most important, not so much the review. Everyone has their take on what happened and why it happened, and for once, I can *almost* join in with some semblance of knowledge. There's no need to get all up-in-arms about anything really. When a forum gets all cliquey and up it's own behind, well... everything just goes downhill from there. If you wish to do a review, by all means, do so! I'd most certainly read it too! We like Macross. Discuss. 'nuff said?
  18. well yes, I get your meaning, but if you really think about it, DYRL was a means to get the franchise more current without necessarily stepping on the toes of the original series. I'd thought that was what they were getting at earlier in the thread. Take SDF Macross, trim it down, put it in movie format (with awesome new animation), and you get.... DYRL. I'm not so much against a remake, but I prefer the fleshed out series by far. I'd much rather it be closer to the original than cut back into a movie format. There's too much going on to fit into 90 minutes.
  19. ...and i JUST finished watching every episode a couple days ago via Crackle on Android. If you think a 22" screen is bad, try watching on a 4" one. That said, I STILL loved it! This is not Robotech... this is SDF Macross. It just felt "right" by comparison. Everything made more sense. I won't hate on Robotech though, because without it, I wouldn't know Macross at all. The funny thing is, my memories of it all were a touch foggy after the seeing most of the episodes of Robotech from 25 or so years ago (which were never replayed). Even after that long, I could tell the difference. Enjoy the show, and I can't wait for your review!
