  1. it seems like everyone is on the same page here (pun?) now, so no big deal. i think a lot of the problem lies in not being able to get the correct inflection of the written word across. it happens everywhere, but here, folks are civil enough to come to an understanding before all hell breaks loose. one of the boards i'm on makes me afraid to post just sheerly because someone is going to insult/fight/scream/flame for no particular reason. OTOH, macrossworld seems full of good folks. group hug everyone! *dives out of room leaving hug-seeking missle behind* and skonch, i love the dioramas. it's a great idea and very low cost! last year or two, someone had their valks in an amazing 1/48 city diorama that was just unreal, actually too real, and out of reach for most of us. your idea is far easier to implement. one could even do a mini display for a single figure. i'm thinking of printing out a nice big pic of the sdf-1 in space to place behind my vf-1s now!
  2. thanks for the words of encouragement, ghadrack! but, i doubt i'll be in for one. i can put stuff together, but finishing is my flaw. usually, one of the last things that one can possibly screw up, i screw up, generally bad enough that it can't be fixed. what can i say? i'm talented with my lack of talent. and with the quality and low production numbers of cap's kits, only a fool would/could ask for a lower cost (another limiter). so i'll get to dream about it, stare raptly at all the WIP's come march, and if i'm lucky, mod the hell out of an old exosquad officer's pod to look moderately acceptable next to my 1/48 vf-1s. i've always liked the glaug design, plus it takes me back to my old battletech days when it masqueraded as a 'marauder'. good luck to those that get them, and POST PICS of the moscato macross madness W'sIP!
  3. i know i've been asking for a yammie glaug for ages, but from what i've seen, cap's would look a LOT nicer. the only problems now are A) my modeling skills are crap. seriously. B) i have a sinking feeling that my choices will be either a) cap'n glaug or b) my wife. looks like i've got till february to see which one's more important.
  4. the next time you speak with your friend, tell him he has a lot of fans of his work! i keep seeing that model pop up every few months, and each time i am just as amazed.
  5. you aren't by chance a thithilian are ya? never get in a battle of wits with a thithilian!
  6. yeah, mechtech is telling us about the 6 foot long daedelus to throw us off track of the rest of the 24 foot tall sdf-1 he's building to go with it now here's a thought.... what about a gigantic sdf-1 treehouse in someone's back yard? i've seen some guy make a really big battlemech a'la mechwarrior that one could get inside (a mad cat?). even better would be to park it in the middle of the swimming pool!
  7. well, it's better to be too light than too heavy! you can always add ballast later along the centerline down low. that actually may help counter the sail effect quite a bit too. keep up the amazing work!
  8. bobe's is still around?! i used to go in their shop all the time when i was a kid. good folks... or at least they were back then. ~greg
  9. ahhh, i can just see it now... some gentleman having a nice, quiet day of fishing in his little boat... (insert 'JAWS' music here) just don't forget to film it. you know we're all waiting for video of a real life (albeit much smaller) daedalus maneuver.
  10. seeing as you're such a glutton for punishment, how about motorized doors for the hanger deck? and a smoke screen generator. maybe some paintball cannons. and retractable hydrofoils! np with the graphite, i use it all the time. great stuff... should be lumped in with wd-40 and duct tape as indispensables. also, silicone spray may work too, as it does not attract dust and gives a bit of water-repellency to whatever it's sprayed on. not sure if it'll apply, but on a lot of the small u-joints i've used in the past, i've stretched a bit of surgical tubing over the joint to seal it up. helps cut out a bit of noise too. and it REALLY helps when you're using a socket wrench u-joint that's acting too froppy for it's own good.
  11. graphite makes an excellent dry lube that won't attract dust. it's available in most auto/hardware stores, typically by the locks and doorknobs. in a pinch, scribbling on the joint with a pencil works too.
  12. no prob, mechtech! i'd not seen the earlier post, but a car jack is exactly what i had in mind when i posted. if i come up with another good idea that you'd already thought of, i'll let you know! ~greg
  13. ahhh, hitec, gotta love 'em. tough servos and a great price, what's not to love? i use one of their servos for steering my t-maxx and it's awesome. the original servo couldn't even turn the tires when the truck was not moving, but the hitec has absolutely no trouble at all. on a side note, not sure if it would apply to your situation, but have you thought of using a screw drive for opening and closing? it's a great way to get a lot of torque from a small device, and the length of travel is only limited by the length of the threaded rod. greg
  14. vlasic does a fair interpretation that is very low cost, although it doesn't last a very long time. http://vlasic.com/index1.html

hrm... penetration saturation. i like miriya's take on it. also, the daedelus penetrates another ship, then saturates it's interior with destroid fire.
  16. OT but not shocking regarding comcast. their software wiped my hard drive, and they wouldn't do anything about it. easily the worst customer service of any company i've ever dealt with, and i work in the cell phone industry which is notoriously bad itself. i now return you to your regularly scheduled topic for nightstalker's decals.
  17. somebody should check if his tailfin skulls are crooked.
  18. sweeeeeet! i've always loved seeing jet designs made into r/c's, but so many times they put on a push/pull prop which just kills the cool lines of the aircraft. granted, it's been a bit since i've checked into a lot of r/c stuff, but it seems ducted fans are far more popular now. for bonus points, can ya make it VTOL?
  19. will that have a pusher prop on it when done, or do you have internal fan 'jets'? either way, it still looks great!
  20. that thing looks like it was painted with a Q-tip.
  21. *concedes to folks with far more knowledge on the subject than myself
  22. if windex dissolves "future", which is an acrylic clear coat, wouldn't ammonia be what actually does the thinning? i've not tried it myself, but that would be my first guess.

i thought yamato would pimp out the vf-1 one more time and make a macross leatherman tool, complete with corkscrew and toenail clippers. oh, and of course with a lighter and a canopener. man, i can't wait for the low-vis version of that!
  24. i really want some enemy mecha, but but i'd rather keep the $2000 in my pocket. i've never tried my hand at scratch building, but now seems as good a time as any! is there a good site you've found for making custom kits like that? or should i just whip out ye olde trusty dremel tool and a block of wood and start buzzing away? if this is something i get into, i'll gladly post a WIP thread, but i still need to figure out the logistics of it all. btw, i did finish my paper regult and it looks pretty cool! i ended up gluing the original sheets to a manilla folder, then cutting them out and assembling. i figured the manilla would make it less likely to get mangled. it looks really funny standing next to my 1/48 roy. i'd guess that it's roughly 1/100 scale. actually, if my 1/48 pilot was actually a 1/100 zentraedi soldier, he'd be a fairly close fit.
