No, no, NO. A thousand times NO. None of those three have a passion for Macross. And it would show in the final product. If they wanna use ILM for the special effects in a live-action movie, that's fine. But I'd rather the director be someone who grew up with Macross, rather than any of those three.

So, we'd want Yamato to be more like Hasbro by making toys based on a crappy derivative of Macross, by pissing on years of backstory and history in favor of making ONLY toys to support their latest blockbuster Hollywood movie, and by alienating the original fans of Macross (much like Hasbro's current treatment of Transformers and GI Joe fans). Got it. Or should Yamato mimic Hasbro's "wonderful" way of loading heaps of pegwarmers upon us, failing to acknowledge how its distribution of figures has been an absolute crapshoot, and deciding to kill a fairly popular subline because of their own stupid decisions and case assortments? Yeah. . . I'm not exactly a fan of Hasbro's more recent decisions. Back on topic, although materials are an important factor to us Macross fans, most of us would agree that it has to be balanced with lineart accuracy in all three modes, sufficient articulation to pull off cool poses (especially poses that can be done without the aid of a stand), minimal kibble, and of course, PRICE.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

I believe you'll be utterring the phrase, "Oh frak!!" a number of times during the start of Season 3. Not sure if the Season 3 DVDs have 'em, but there's also a few "webisodes" that fill in the gap between Season 2 and Season 3. They're each usually just a few minutes long, and they focus mostly on some minor characters. But it'll be good background filler for when you start up Season 3. If you thought the poop had hit the fan before, just wait. -

Shush! Enough already! (Just don't mention how Galactica is actually the SDF-1 and gets thrown back in time to 1999 after an encounter with a spatial anomoly in the Devron system) -

The next two or three episodes immediately after the Pegasus arc are a bit clunky. But stick with it, and you'll be rewarded by season's end. -

Make sure it's the extended version that you pick on the menu screen. The "aired on television" version is good too, but the extra bits on the extended version are definitely worthwhile contributions to the plot and story. -

Just "kind of"? I love everything about the end of that first hour/episode with Pegasus: the camera work, the editing, the cutting between the two CIC's, the crescendo'ing music. . . everything was absolutely pitch perfect for that whole sequence. -
That's just downright frustrating. They didn't exactly help their cause by re-packing those crappy Darth Vader/Rebel Trooper and comic-colored Han and Chewie packs either. Honestly, the majority of my SW purchases the past two years have been comic packs. Other than the Legacy General Grievous, there hasn't been much that has truly caught my fancy in the main single-pack lines. I mean a man can only purchase so many variations of the main characters. I just hope that when The Old Republic video game gets released that Hasbro does the right thing. The KOTOR period really deserve an honest-to-goodness wave of its own. Shoot, if Force Unleashed can get its own wave of figures, then certainly KOTOR (with three video games and a comic series to draw from) merits having its own release/wave of figures.

'bout time you reared your ugly mug back in here. Glad to see you, the bottles, and the pint glasses back. <tosses Ace a bottle of Yoshinol> -
If we're talking size comparisons and costs, I could always compare the SDF-1 to this too: Link. (Yes, I know it's an unfair comparison.) Yeah, it sucks that they're charging so much for an over-two-feet long, transforming ship. But I had a hard time even accepting the speculated $500 price point. I'd probably also be more pissed if this was a TV version of the SDF-1. But as I've said before, let's just wait and see. IF Yamato does make a mass-production version and IF that version doesn't meet our expectations in terms of size, quality, level of detail, and especially price, then feel free to continue the b*tch-fest.

James Cameron presents Dances with Smurfs. Was dying of laughter at that little twist near the end!

Man if Yamato made a Roy Focker Skull Squadron color scheme for all the valks I would buy everyone. That YF-21 looks awesome. If I was doing a Skull-1 color scheme for the YF-21, I wouldn't add that red trim on the chest/intakes. It doesn't look right for the color scheme. Instead, I'd: * Keep the yellow trim all the same as on Guld's blue YF-21. * Paint the cockpit canopy black. * Paint the all grey and light-blue parts (on Guld's blue YF-21) black. That custom's a good start. But it would need the above tweaks to make it a proper Skull-1 custom.

<Sigh> Not this again. (Hey! Why's my 1/60 VF-0S so much bigger than a 1/48 VF-1?) I've still got this sneaking suspicion that Yamato's trying to hit us with "sticker shock" now. So that when they do finally unveil their smaller, mass production version, we won't think twice about a $500 price tag. Also, I wonder if making the 1/2000 version out of less expensive materials such as ABS or regular plastic ratchet joints (instead of nylon) would help to lower the costs? (I'm no plastics expert. So please, go gentle if you have to rake me over the coals for my ignorance.) In any case, let's wait and see what develops.

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but we mentioned this awhile back in one of the old YF-21 threads: Linky with color picture attachments. On my custom YF-21, I also "cheat" and take off the kneepads when going back into fighter mode (minimizes the paint-rub ). Doing that might help out a little bit when you're trying to get the -21 back into fighter mode.

I like this idea! --------------------------------- Thank you, Graham, for getting us an update on this whole situation. Please thank your Yamato contact too for taking the time to answer our questions and clear up the situation. If we can't get the 2-foot tall Holy Grail, maybe we'll still wind up with a 1/3000 or even a 1/2500 scale version? Oh well, we can use the extra time, money, and savings to our advantage once again.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

Seriously VFTF1, you should watch the latest BSG series. Anyone who's really watched the show can tell you that a lot of Benedict's opinions about it are completely off-base. That's what's frustrating for a lot of us fans of new BSG: it's that Benedict is being critical of a series that TOTALLY GOES AGAINST how "Harvard Business School Technocrats run Hollywood." Benedict laments that "what Technocrats know is what must be removed from all business is Risk," and yet new BSG took some massive-ass risks (I'd name 'em, but Gubaba's still going through the series right now.). It's not the content of Benedict's message that we look down upon but rather what he chose as a target (the new BSG series) that a lot of us don't agree with. And the lack of MANLY characters in new BSG?! I got three words for you: Colonel FRAKKEN Tigh. -
Kicker773, are you sure that's from Ghostkiller? The above pic looks like one from Wicked Ace's MW gallery: Link.

Hmm, Halloween, Macross, dressing up in costumes. . . This was the first thing that came to mind: Linky. -
Nah, if this was a day time soap, half the Yamato employees would be sleeping with the other half (while still being married to the other half), while two bitter rival Yamato executives would constantly scheme and backstab each other to see who can get credit for the SDF-1 (completely unaware that they're half-brothers), while some distraught Yamato salaryman plots to plant bombs in all the prototype and finished SDF-1's (all because the Hory Froating Head ignored him, cut in line, and took the last ramen bowl from the vending machine), while the entire financial success or failure of Yamato utterly hinges on the release of the SDF-1! Seriously though, I wonder if Graham's gotten any additional news or clarification that he can share about these releases.

Awesome work dirtying up that AT-ST!! All we need now is Chewie popping his head out of the hatch. . . . And Shin, "Sweep the leg."
