1. I was talking from the stand point of the colors and quality of the image. All I've had for 11 years now was my LD-to-VHS copy and a fansub copy on tape I snagged in 1997, so this was a big improvement. I have a regular 25" TV right now and will eventually get a widesceen TV, so yeah it would have been nice if this had been anamorphic, but considering it was about just a week ago that I first heard about this DVD coming out, that I never thought this release would happen, and that it was well priced, I am quite happy to have this DVD.
2. Jason, I think our next launch is the third Saturday next month. I'll give a heads up. For the heck of it, here was Macross Plus when I flew it on a single L730 motor two days later. Trying to figure out what to do so I can stick four more motor mounts in it! If I get around to it, I'm going to do an LDRS 25 thread.
3. Couldn't find the old thread, but here's an update on the Gundam fan who will be cosplaying his way into space as Char Aznable! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/14072006/323/japa...pace-dream.html But this guy's got nothing on me. I actually have my own Gundam rocket! After a year out of commission, I rebuilt the largest rocket in my fleet (Mobile Rocket Gundam). Besides rebuilding it to its previous configuration, I modified the rocket to take three additional motors. For its flight at LDRS 25 down in Texas a few weeks ago, I flew it with four motors: an L730 picked it up off the pad. 1/2 a second into flight, three I285 motors where simultaneously lit by two timers on board. The whole motor combination lifted this nearly 30 pound rocket to just over 6,400 feet... 1st time to officially break a mile, most powerful, and most complicated flight I've ever done. It gently landed over a mile away. It was easy to find out on that flat Texas grazing land. If I get a chance, I am wanting to start a "Macross and Anime Model Rockets" thread over in the model section when I sometime get a chance.
4. I know I asked this a few pages back, but has anyone heard anything on if MPC Starscream MIGHT see a US release???
5. I'll repost this later...
6. To help get things back on subject... V-22 Osprey at Farnborough.
7. I know that message wasn't on the original LD, but it's possible that message may have been at the end of the credits when it had its original theatrical run. I wonder what SFII fans in Japan thought of the Van Damme movie?
8. I didn't mention anything about his time as a politican, the stances or actions he has had as a politician, etc. Granted this was him showing off his political leaning on this subject matter, but I thought it was appropriate. I simply stated the facts of what actions he did as a private citizen. If you noticed, I purposely avoided mentioning issues of defense and national security under Clinton. So I gotta ask that in a few months when the F-14 Tomcat is removed from service completely, how many of you guys are going to hold back your political commentary about Dick Cheney? I remember someone on this board seriously wishing they could go back in time and kill him over this subject matter... yet no one complained and no one demand a moderator to step in! I see every now and then jabs and slams at George W., but again no call for moderation and no sign of a moderator stepping in. Obviously a double standard here. To whatever extent he (Cheney) was or wasn't actually involved in preventing the Tomcat program from moving forward (production of the Tomcat 21, preventing replacement parts for existing aircraft from being made) etc., mentioning his direct or indirect involvement with the F-14 is a political discussion because its the political decision of a politican on a national defense issue. I have no problem with you guys talking about this subject matter (Dick Cheney and the F-14), but I should surely hope we can be consistant here...
9. Pretty much every American president in recent history has had some sort of military experience earlier in their life. In the case of Ronald Reagan having an aircraft carrier named after him, he definitely deserved it for all that he did in building up our armed forces, restoring pride in it and in our country, and his part in bringing down the Soviet Union. But by the time it was decided to apply his name to a carrier, Alzheimers had probably taken his mind away so much that there was no way he could have taken any pride or acknowledgement of this honor. But I generally agree that naming a ship after a ship after a president should be held off until after death and there has been time to asertain what that president contributed to the defense of the nation and specifically to the Navy. Without even going into his presidency, Bill Clinton has some very serious issues. Besides not having served a day in the military, here is a man who has in writing that he "loathed" the military. He dodged the draft, he was involved in flag burnings and protests against the US and its armed forces on foreign soil. He gave aid and comfort to the enemy all the while helping lower the morale of the US and its armed forces. Just on this alone, he should never have a ship named after him.
10. I have a VHS copy from the Japanese LD and trust me I've watched it quite a few times. I don't think this fight was ever edited down in any version. What is on the new DVD is exactly what was on the Japanese LD.
11. Guile vs. Vega (er Bison) is there in its entirity though it was brief to begin with (mainly Vega dodging a few of Guile's punches, flip kick, and Sonic Boom). After Guile did his Sonic Boom, Vega used his psycho power to throw Guile into the forest and Guile was put out of commission. As for the "teaser" ending, you mean when it starts going into the credits, Ryu is walking down the roiad, and then Vega tries to run down Ryu in a semi and Ryu jumps up in the air towards Vega and yells "Teaser!"?
12. I got done watching side B earlier and all I can say is GET THIS DVD! The movie is completely intact (credits, title screen, EVERYTHING), it's in widescreen, it looks great, all the characters keep their Japanese names (it's funny with the English dub version how they digitally altered some of the characters names to match the version of the game outside of Japan - Vega = Bison, Balrog = Vega, Bison = Balrog), but they didn't change every occurances of the names so things are inconsistant there ), the Japanese soundtrack is all there and sounds great, and of course Chun Li. The only thing that would have made this more complete is if the trailers from the Japanes LD were here (the trailers had some animation from the Ryu vs. Sagat scene that were cut from the final version), but I guess you can't have everything. Until a few weeks ago, I had no idea this was coming, so this was a huge surprise when it was announced here. I didn't think this was ever going to happen. Now if SF II can get a proper US release, why can we not hope that one day the same thing could happen for DYRL? This was my first real exposure to anime 11 years ago this month. The circle has been complete. BTW, Jeremy, the box art you show is the outside cardboard slip, not what's actually on the case.
13. Yesterday here in Omaha when I was out walking on the bike trail during my lunch break, right when I was coming up upon the I-80 overpass, I saw a B-17 flying low and heading to the east. Not the first time I've seen a WWII bird while out on one of my walks at noon. Last year I saw a P-51 flying low above L St. heading east. I do know the Commemorative Air Force has a strip and have a small museum they have across the river in Council Bluffs. Don't know if that strip could handle something as big as a B-17, though. Since Offutt's to the south and so is the main approach pattern, there's been a lot of times where I've seen a variety of fighters, bombers, and other aircraft heading into Offutt during my walks. Ditto if I'm out there on the trail for one of my several hour bike rides especially since the main trail here in the area wraps completely around the base.
14. SFII was being advertised in Best Buy's Sunday add for $12.99.
15. For those interested, Volume 4 is out. Picked mine up from Best Buy last week.
16. July 1989. This was between my freshman and sophmore years of high school. I even taped the flight as it was broadcast on CNN. Still have the tape to this day. The 82 as part of its serial number indicates which fiscal year the aircraft was purchased. The most B-2's I ever saw in one shot was on Labor Day weekend 1995. When they had the naming ceremony here at Offutt for the Spirit of Nebraska, I believe it was the Spirit of Texas that did a fly by. It's been 17 years since the B-2 first flew. It has been in combat three times (so much for the B-2 being unneeded in the post Cold War era...) and not a single one has crashed or been shot down. A definite tribute to the workers at Northrop Grumman and the men and women of the 509th.
17. Has anyone heard on a potential US release for MPC Starscream? I would prefer to wait to get him $30 to $40 cheaper, but if it's going to be a Japan only release I might go with that version.
18. I enjoyed it when I went through it a few years ago and will probably try to watch it again soon. It sucked that the ending was rushed since there was clearly a lot of content that still needed to play out.
19. I'm late to this thread but I wanted to say that besides the clear canopy, it also looks like the position of the nose gear has moved back a little bit so it now looks a little more accurate. For this size and scale, these look great. Can't wait to get these guys!
20. Three years ago I had the privelage of checking out Nam's (Valkyrie Factory) Macross and toy collection in person when I was in Minneapolis. Very impressive! The Valkyrie Factory has been down for some time and I know that Nam was planning on revamping it. But it's been quite a few months and if he has gotten married to his girlfriend by now it's hard to say when or if we'll see the Valkyrie Factory up again. The Valkyrie Factory was truly THE ultimate Macross toy site and it is surely missed. I think you are referring to valkyrie-factory, unfortunately last time I checked its gone. man I miss that and jawjaw's site!! Ah the good ol days 415337 gone? thats why you gotta right click any resources you find, one day its there, next day its gone. i'm sure someone here saved those images, hopefully they'll see this post and pass them along to graham or one of the mods to add to the homepage. 415463 I did save some from Valkyrie-Factory, JawJaw, and some others. I have some saved html pages too. I started saving when I started to see some sites go. I need to organize it though. They 1/100 price is questionable. I wish the FP were included in the price. I do not needs stands or big boxes for display. I display out of box. I paid discounted prices for most of my Banprestos(5 or less) so that I have 27 for now. I hope to do the same with the 1/100 scale Toynami's. If the QC is there I will most likely get rid of some of my Banpresto's. edit: here is a way to look at some of the old thumnails. Google Search images for www.me.umn.edu/~ngo http://images.google.com/images?num=100&hs...F-8&sa=N&tab=wi 415541
21. From what I've been told, there has been a lot of interest and numerous companies have lined up wanting to become the distributor for the Shadow Chronicles. I don't know who the distributor was, but a number of months back there was a deal almost signed. But as it turned out, the deal could have allowed the distributor to have put the Shadow Chronicles on the shelf and would have never had to release it. The deal obviously fell through. Obviously, Harmony Gold is trying to push for the best deal which should in turn give a better and wider opportunity for the public to see it.
22. I was going to see this last Friday night with friends and I even had a ticket, too, but the $&$& movie theater was showing it in two of their theaters at exactly the same time and of course I bought a ticket for the theater where my friends were NOT in. Ended up getting a refund on the ticket. Guess I'll have to see Jack Sparrow in action some other time. I never saw the first movie on the big screen, but I saw it on DVD and thought it was enjoyable. I am looking forward to seeing this and the upcoming third movie.
23. All I can say is WOW!!!! It was back in July of 1995 when a guy I knew from one of the local video game stores burned me a VHS copy off of his Japanese LD; this included all the trailers, Capcom videogame commercials, etc. This was my very first exposure to anime in Japanese with a J-Pop soundtrack. I was totally blown away. I must have watched that taped many of dozens of times. After the disappointment of the Van Damme live action movie, this refired my interest in the Street Fighter series, but it also launched my anime fandom which continues to this day (though my main interest is classic mecha titles like Gundam and Macross). I never got around to it, but I had always planned on getting the Japanese LD someday because I thought the chances of a proper US release were next to zero. But it looks like I can wait a while longer.
24. The Supersonic Shape-Shifting Bomber!
