  1. Even with all its power, it got up to only 4,000 feet up. It was a hefty beast and there was a fair amount of drag to it (especially from the mounting craddle for the strap on boosters at the base of the rocket. Here's a link to pictures of the motors and propellant slugs that went into this thing. http://www.insaneprojects.com/propulsion.html When I get the chance, I am going to start a new thread covering all my Macross and anime model rocket projects. I also may start a separate thread detailing my Level 3 rocket (M power!) which will be called Super Dimension Rocket Macross and will have a DYRL theme paint job and finish - the current plan is to paint each of the four fins to represent each Skull Team member, have a mainly white paint job with black trim, and lots of Macross related stickers (UN Spacy logos, Skull & Crossbones, DYRL Summer 84 logos, and other artwork). I first started building it last summer, but other then working on it for a few days back in the spring, it has been untouched since. I have decided to do some major redesign work on it very soon and I hope to be back to work on it as soon as next month. I will chronicle the whole building and design of this creation right here on Macross World.
  2. 1/5th scale Delta III by some of the guys of our group here in Nebraska! It was flown at LDRS 25 on July 3rd. This was flight number 2. The main motor was roughly a P8600 amd the nine detachable booster motors each had an L1200 (all of these reloadable motors were custom made). This was the Delta's second flight. Here is the project homepage with more pictures and even video of its two flights: http://www.insaneprojects.com/default.html
  3. LDRS 5 let's see that would have been 1986! Where was it held? I know the first several (before it became THE official annual event for Tripoli Rocketry Association) where held in Ohio. As for the paper cone shaped rocket with fins you are close! Quest took the old Centuri X-24 Bug and rearranged it to become this kit (can't remember the name off the top of my head). Not exactly stable, but it was fun to fly. As for the X-Wing, this was the more recent incarnation from the late 90's which was mostly plastic and pretty mush ready to fly unlike the past balsa kit. Everythime I fly it, it is pretty stable. As for finishing balsa, I usually use sanding sealer followed up my Model Magic or I just go straight to gray Krylon Primer.
  4. I got to head off to do some other things, but here's some pictures of the Macross 20th Anniversary Rocket. I orginally worked on it on and off during 2001 and finished it up and the end of 2002. I finished it up with a paint and decal scheme to replicate Hikaru's Valkyries from DYRL. All of its flight were during 2003. I flew it on a mix of I and J motors. The Cessaroni Pro38 J330 took it up to around 4,800 feet twice. This rocket uses dual stage deployment - an altimeter seperates the rocket in half at apogee. When the rocket gets down to an altitude just a few hundred feet above the ground, the main parachute deploys and the rocket just lands a few feet away instead of miles away. Unfortunately on its last flight in June 2004, the motor catoed and the Macross 20th Anniversary Rocket was pretty banged up. After two years, it is still in a state of disrepair, but I think I'll fix it up soon. These are mix of pictures from 2002 and 2004.
  5. Time to dig up some pictures of my Macross/Gundam rockets. First of which is the biggest Macross rocket in the fleet - Macross Plus! If you got to the Macross World Attack Team page (http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/mwat/richard_burney/_richard_burney.htm) here on Macross World, you will find pictures and even a movie file (of its first flight) from its first two years of flights (2000-2001). Between June 2000 and October 2004, I flew it mainly on AeroTech K550's and K1100's. In October 2004, I flew it on a Cesaroni Pro54 K660 (which is neatly a full K motor unlike the smaller K550 and K1100) to an altitude of about 4,400 feet. The seat belt strap that was part of the shock cord set up put a foot deep zipper into the forward body tube. It would remain out of commision until 2006. After not having flown it in about a year-and-a-half's time, I fixed up Macross Plus in June to take with me down to Amarillo, TX for LDRS 25. Though the rocket remains exactly the same length, instead of ejecting the nose cone off, the nose cone along with a section of body tubing ejects forward. Like in my Gundam rocket, I incorporated an anti zipper coupler assembly, and the main chute deploys right with the bottom section. This kind of arrangement reduces the chance of damaging the rocket at parachute deployment. Below are some additional pictures of Macross Plus throughout the years. The set of older pictures with me with the white t-shirt and black hat and all the grass and everything kind of looks dry and burned out was taken back in August 2002. The motor for the flight was a K1100. As a special payload, I put in a copy of the premiere issue of the Gunsight 1 newsletter/fanzine I briefly did during 2002! It reached an altitude of about 2,200 feet (typical with that motor). The set of pictures of me without a baseball cap was taken in May 2004. Again, a K1100. Finally, the pictutres where I am wearing that flourescent workers vest (I wore it to indicate I was member of the press there at LDRS 25), those were taken on July 2nd when I was at LDRS 25 south of Amarillo, TX. A single Pro54 L730 took it to an altitude of just over 4,600 feet.
  6. A large upscale of the Estes or Centuri Colonial Viper was flown at LDRS on day 2 (Viper). I missed that flight because I was asleep back at my motel room because I had spent the entire night before prepping my Gundam rocket. It's very likely this may have been the same Viper, but there have been people in the past who have done large, high power model rocket versions of the Estes/Centuri kit. But looking at the picture long enough, I think this is the same Viper. Just did some more searching and that was indeed the same Viper! The guy even stopped at the Amarillo Hooters and got some of the girls there to pose with it! http://galaxyphoto.com/rockets/viper8.html
  7. You rang? I usually don't look in this part of the forum, but I just happened saw this subject highlighted as the most recent in this forum. Anyway... here I am! I'll post a few pictures of my works.
  8. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3152778 Look at the line up on this single compilation... all I can say is WOW! I thought Capcom Classic Collection Vol. 2 was going to be my last PS2 game. Looks like I was wrong. It's been pretty amazing some of these compilations that have been coming out recently.
  9. Got my "new" 360 back yesterday. I say "new" because it was manufactured back in February and based off of what I was told, it's typical for refurnished systems to be sent out to people with damaged systems. Since this is a different system, I won't be able to play stuff I paid for with my points (ie. Geometry Wars, some of the COD2 expansions maps) if I don't have a signal with Xbox Live, but the situation should hopefully be squared away tonight. I did download SFII' Hyper Fighting last night My main quip is that the current 360 controller is difficult to use with it. But other then that, I'm lovin' it.
  10. Yup. Season 3 was lameass. I bought the DVDs of all the seasons and after Season 3 I sold them. 1 held up okay and season 2 had its moments but man 3 was a stinker. The 86 movie though is still fun to watch and it has some great dialogue(especially Kup,Grimlock,Prime,Galvatron) 422407[/snapback] Agree with you both. Back during 2002, I bought only the season 1 and 2 DVD sets myself. Haven't watched them yet, but with everything going on, I might do so soon. BTW, today's the big 2-0 for Transformers the movie!
  11. Ironically my PS1 copy of SOTN was one of the games I traded off to pay for my 360 and my inititial batch of games! (Still have my Saturn version, though) I got to give some major props to Konami for some of the stuff they are bringing to Live Arcade (including the arcade versions of Contra and Super Contra). I'll probably download this puppy so I can have the game in English again (bad voice acting and all). I had meant to revive this thread a few weeks ago because after a good solid 8 months of heavy play on my 360, my system started freezing up. Over two weeks it just kept getting worse. Two weeks ago it finally got to the point where the boot up screen wouldn't come up at all and I even got my first error message. Microsoft sent me the shipping box and I sent my system last Thursday. It got to them on Tuesday and it (or its replacement) were sent on its merry way yesterday morning. Should be back to upping my score on Geometry Wars and playing SF II by early next week. I'm real glad I bought the two year extended warranty! I believe it was heat that finally got to the system. There has been quite a few days here in Omaha where it's been in the 90's and has broken a 100. THe room my 360 is in is on the second floor in the south room. I'm pretty sure it's 10 to 15 degrees warmer in there then it was during the winter. To help keep things cooler, last night I covered up the windows that get the most direct sunlight. I also got one of those Nyoko Intercoolers to help suck out the hot air.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_The_Movie The 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of Transofrmers The Movie is just a few days away! I was 12 going on 13 that August. After being used to what was on the TV series, this was definitely a surprising experience because they actually killed off a bunch of the characters including Prime himself! There was adult language in it! And the animation was pretty good, too. With season 3 totally sucking in most areas (animation quality, continuity errors, bringing Optimus Prime back to life TWICE, etc.), Transformers The Movie was the peak of my Transformers fandom. If anyone has any thoughts or experiences they want to share involving the 1986 release of Transformers The Movie, please do so.
  13. Yeah I was wondering why it said that it was a two part OVA when it was three parts. Picked my DVD up on Sunday. So Milk, does part 3 look worse then part 1 and 2? That's the way the Manga Corps tapes were like (colors were much darker). I don't know of the original footage was like that to begin with or if Manga Corps screwed something up.
  14. The B-58 Hustler used two different model nuclear warhead tipped fuel tanks. It's been done before and with nuclear weapons.
  15. Far Technologies... I wonder if whoever put together their website realized that running both words together in their URL now makes it look like their company is Fart Technologies? I watched the in air rearming sequence. I got to ask, what stablizes the F-16 while the rearming is taking place? What pilot in his right mind would fly right about 20 feet behind a C-130 while simultaneously have a steel rail from said aircraft just floating a matter of a few feet below one of your wings? But if anyone could make it work, it would be Israel. This would probably be good for CAS missions and some long range strike scenarios.
  16. Once again, I'm a few days behind on keeping up with the hot topics around here. Just saw Graham's scans of the YF-19.... nice! This is something I will buy one or two of when it comes out.
  17. I think that's "Super Dimensional", Graham.
  18. Gotta agree with you, too. Yamato has REALLY burned me out as of recent. I am going to get the VF-0S and A along with the Angel Bird VF-1A, but just these three items alone will cost me over $450. This is starting to become rediculous.
  19. You gotta give credit to Yamato for milking their 1/48th VF-1 line! But I wish Yamato would do two things: 1) Lower the price of these 1/48th's. They keep pounding them out and since pretty much all these VF-1's are identical except for paint, the price of manufacturing these babies should be dropping. 2) SPREAD OUT YOUR RELEASES, YAMATO! With the exception of my two sets of GBP-1S armor, I have not bought a 1/48th scale VF-1 toy in nearly 2-1/2 years. With a lot of these regular VF-1's going for $150 or more and the FAST Pack versions going for another $40 or $50. With everything coming out here in just few months, if I bought all of these including the VF-0S and the VF-0A, this would be a $1000+ investment in just a few months for a few hunks of plastic! Yamato, I would REEEEEALLLLLLYYYY love to buy all of these Macross goodies you are introducing this year, but I simply can't afford to buy all of this stuff at once. Again, they need to better spread out their releases. Yamato's going to lose sales from over saturating the market too quickly.
  20. Did anyone ever figure out who the 45+ "old geezer" was? But then again, I wasn't really bitten by the Macross and Gundam bugs until I was in my early to mid 20's range. In another 13 years when I'm 45, I wouldn't be surprised if at that age I participate in some sort of anime age poll in which I describe myself as a 45+ year old Macross or Gundam fan!
  21. Yamato sure knows how to milk their 1/48th VF-1 toy line! Other then two sets of GBP-1S armors I got earlier this year, I haven't bought any 1/48th VF-1s since early 2004... just too friggin' expensive! I was passing up on the Stealth and Low Viz 2 VF-1's, but since this is cannon to the show, I might get this one.
  22. Guitar Hero for Xbox 360? I hope this is true. I am about to buy the PS2 Guitar Hero, but if a 360 version with all the songs for the first one are there, I'll wait for the 360 incarnation.
  23. I can't remember where this is posted, but the reason they want Prime so big is that otherwise Starscream and Megatron would dwarf him since they are jet fighters. It was also said that they are keeping to real life physics and not the magical transformations of the cartoon (ie. a 30 foot robot becoming a hand held cassette player). It's because of the success of the X-men movies that these live action adaptions of these comic books and cartoon series are aiming towards being realistic. I say regarding the movie, enjoy it for what it's worth... an original take on the Transformers universe. What's worse? A long nose semi Prime or an Optimus Prime that turns into a friggin' ape?
