  1. The missile thing probably comes down to resources. A missile is hard and expensive to build, trust me I used to work on them. Whereas a bullet is relatively cheap, even HE rounds aren't that expensive to make by comparison. Also, the idea of jamming a missile is stupid. Unless the missile has an active uplink antennae or the cylons can somehow transmit their virus through the missiles radar it wouldn't work. And even if it did then just go with an IR seeker. In the end it probably comes down to what resources are you willing to expend on protection of the fleet? Do you build a number of bullets that are cheap and easy to build requiring minimal maintenance and manpower, or do you build missiles which require many more resources, and which you do not have adequate testing facilities for? You want to test a batch of bullets, you fire a couple. You want to test a batch of missiles, well then all you can do is cold checks on them due to wanting to save resources. Also am i the only one that finds it funny that that picture says the cannons are 30mm, and the rounds shown are all clearly 20mm vulcan rounds?
  2. Well so far on this and another site the general concencous is to leave the design be, and possible to a bomber varient. That has me intrigued. Therefore I am considering leaving this one alone, and just making sure to write in that it is unusaully small, coming up with a good reason why, and using the new design as the basis for a bomber version. Of course the bomber will infact be a whole new craft, so it will need a new name, but will incorperate the same technologies just adding the ability to carry torpedoes or more of the advanced warhead that this beast packs. Thoughts?
  3. It's max cosplaying as a valkyrie
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. I am still on the fence on this one. The new concept is still very rough, and will still incorporate a lot of the old designs salient features. The most notable being the weapons pods, those will remain largely unchanged, just sized up a bit if I go ahead with it. One of the biggest changes to this design is going back to an older version of the design where the engines were buried in the "wings". If I go ahead with this design it will incorporate that feature and a few others. Thanks for the comments and let me stew on this for a few days.
  5. You guys must be getting sick of these. But I am considering redesigning my Merlin class fighter again. I've had issues with the current merlin ever since I finished it. Mostly with its size, it is just way too small, so I am considering three possible options. 1) Leave it alone 2) just size it, which will require a full rebuild thanks to ACAD 3) Go for it and redesign the whole thing. As for redesigning the whole thing I have put together a quick blocked out thinking out loud that sketched today at work. I am attaching a pic of it as well as of the previous version. To illustrate the size point I am attaching the old scale chart for the fighters. Your input is appreciated.
  6. Very nice, few people ever try to do the TV series cockpit, looks like you are only missing the control sticks.
  7. The show is packed with anime references, in fact one episode showed a valkyrie or two parked in a hanger. It is a fun show, just don't take it seriously.
  8. wrong on so many levels
  9. You know I find it funny, last week I tried to go to Robotech.com to see any updates on this at work and it wouldn't let me. The AF IT guys have it as a blocked site, yet I can come Macrossworld anytime I like, gotta love it.
  10. I want my 1:18 A-10 dang it. As for what I have seen at Edwards, oh man, I have seen the XL, but only in a hanger, it doesn't fly much anymore. I will get my new digi-cam this weekend, and after that well my bike rides will involve a lot of picture taking of the various birds on site. Heck the gate guards over at the NASA entrance include: one of the original shuttle lifting body protos, an X-29, the F-8FBW, and F-8 Supercritical wing. There are T-38 and F-104s on sticks all over, 1/4-1/2 scale models over various planes, the first P-59, not mention all the flight ops, and the planes at the museum. Heck the engine shop is right across the street and they have a couple engines on display out front, I can here DH salivating now as he ponders what engine. ANd then there is the mini-boneyard which has all kinds of neat shreg, including more 1/4-1/2 scale mockups and an A-9 prototype, X-15 nose, and a few ohter tasty bits. Heck when I leave the office everyday I am treated to avery nice sight, out on the flight line is the restored A-10B just sitting there, too bad she can't fly but it is a nice sight everyday. And yes I did work on some projects back in college for my various internships. I have heard good things about SDB too since college but if you saw the garbage that went on with that seeker when i was at Raytheon oh man. Of course they may have gone with a different seeker since then, but I helped get that program from 9 months to only 2 months behind schedule in the 10 weeks I worked there.
  11. No you see missiles, look at the smoke plumes, they arc, but missiles are not its primary armament, probably used sparingly since they are harder to produce.
  12. yeah I think they abdandoned that one
  13. the designs, underwhelm me, the should really have made the bow of the SDF-3 more narrow, nright now it just looks like a dumb bell
  14. Vipers do have missiles, they are shown, but not used much, they carry them internally maybe 2-4?
  15. Ugh don't get me started on SDB I worked on its seeker back in college, let's just say, oh wait, sorry I can't say.
  16. Nice pic dobber but I always got the impression that there were two launch tube levels stacked on the pegasus
  17. eh, not impressed thus far
  18. ROFLMAO, I think Death Hammer might be our new MGREXX
  19. At this point I think that the human form cylons are definitely bio-engineered but with an inbuilt nano-tech system. The reason i say this is becuase they have shown the ability to do certain things that are beyond human capability, sixes glowing spine, sharon able to link with a fiber optic cable, the fact that they can transmitt their personna out of their bodies. This all points to some ability to reconfigure parts of the body, and an inbuild nano-forge would work. It wouldn't even take much, each one is injected with nannites that it can control, the nannites continue to build others and then can rebuild and repair the body as necessary. The nannites could also have inbuilt protocols that say if the host dies to form some form of bio-transmitter to automatically send out their consciouness, that or the cylons have some form of telepathic link.
  20. Already brought it up in the Sci-tech mega thread
  21. me, well check the siggy, but I currently work as a Flight Test Engineer on the C-17A Combined Test Force for the 418th Flight Test Squadron, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base.
  22. Oh come on now, Roboschlock having continuity errors, plot holes, character renamings, errors of all kinds, I've never heard of such a thing.. It's as if they took three unrelated animes chopped them up and joined them with a really bad overlaying plot then created something else to try and tie up all their loose ends. Oh wait that is what they are doing, just really badly.
  23. The search function is a wonderful thing: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...11937&hl=mig-29
  24. Actually I do agree that the best thing about the Lynch version was the backstory at the beginning that gets you caught up with what is going on.
  25. Well duh guys haven't you seen planetes? LOL http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/space/01/20/s...k.ap/index.html
