Yup, the Matchbox Monster is basically a repainted version of the Takatoku Monster, which is definitely 1/240. See http://www.menet.umn.edu/~ngo/monster.html and http://www.menet.umn.edu/~ngo/mac2.html

Now all we need is a VF-11B with a broken hip joint to say "God bless us everyone!" Happy holidays, y'all!

Look up the page a bit to my last post. HG has been using the designs from the show to create comic book and other adaptations for a long time, seemingly without any legal difficulty. Since the VF-4 model appeared in the show, having a full-scale "YF-4" in the comics is similar to having the YF-1R/VF-1R featured in the video game. The YF-1R involves creating a new design based on the originals, so it might be pushing the envelope as far as HG's rights to use the original designs. If they can get away with that, the "YF-4" is probably less of a problem, since it only involves scaling up the existing model. Again, we don't really know the details of the contracts.

Heck, even I'm a little too young to say I'd automatically recognize him if I saw him around town, but I know Willie Mays is one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and a local hero to San Franciscans. He'd probably be one of the biggest guests at any "society" party. Agent, tell Gavin I wish him good luck.

I know there's at least one ex-tanker on this board, so I thought I'd throw this out. In that shot where we see Ivanov fire a shell that penetrates Roy's armored VF's shield before being defeated by the reactive armor, does anyone think that the animation doesn't look very much like we'd expect a HEAT round to behave? To me, the way it squashes looks more like HESH--but from what I've read, HESH isn't really all that great against modern armor, and reactive armor doesn't really help much against it. Or could the "squashing" effect be the squashing of the aerodynamic "windshield" on the HEAT round? Are there any high-speed photography shots of a HEAT round hitting a piece of armor? Edit: If it's HESH, it should have caused (at most) some fragments to spall off the inside of the shield, and those wouldn't have posed any threat to the inherent armor of the battroid. If it were HEAT, I'd think the shield itself would be a very effective form of "spaced armor", and the jet would completely lose its focus before hitting the body of the battroid. Either way, reactive armor really wouldn't be needed.

Not necessarily. It could be a different edition entirely. It seems that there is at least one legitimate Korean release, for example, which somehow is licensed directly by Tatsunoko instead of going through HG. But what our friend seems to be looking at is a case of a misleading entry at Amazon. If you go to http://www.kochint.com/ and search on Macross, you'll see that they list the Animeigo set in their catalog. Koch is a distributor, not a production house, but somehow Amazon put their name into the wrong field.

http://www.macross.co.jp/zero/schedule/index.html For October it has: Which Excite translates as: (The last word is the manufacturer.) Also, December or later has: Which translates to: What are these things? Oh, wait, I just figured it out. It's like playing telephone. The second one is the 1/60 Queadluun-Rau. So what's the first one?

The guy whose name is stenciled on the side of the VF-1D that Hikaru "hijacks" in episode 1. -

I just looked again and the way it goes is: 1) VF-0 dives into the water like a pelican. 2) Shin and Edgar sees that the enemy mecha is going to grab the VF-0, so Shin remembers being attacked by an octopus, as well as the fact that a VF-0 can transform to battroid and dodge. He transforms to battroid and the heat shield activates just in time to protect the cockpit. 3) VF-0 transforms to battroid and shoots big enemy mecha with the head laser. (Which is rifled for some reason.) 4) VF-0 coasts underwater toward the AFOS head and grabs it. At first, it seems like it could be swimming, but then we see the backpack thrusters are lit. 5) After grabbing the head, the VF-0 dodges a torpedo and thrusts out of the water. Picture 1: Activate thrusters.

Vespaeda's solution seems pretty far out, but I suppose it's within the realm of possibility. I think the compressor/turbine blades would be turned by stored electricity instead of burning jet fuel underwater. The latter would use up any gaseous oxygen reserves extremely quickly. Max Jenius's solution also sounds good. I guess if we rewatch the underwater sequence, we might see where the "thrust" is coming from, which could give some clues as to how it's being produced.
-
The spare engines could indeed be a possibility, but it is really hard to see where their thrust goes and whether/how it might be vectored. Also, I just realized that that picture shows a "protoculture storage compartment". So goodness knows if it represents the original intent of the Mospeada mecha designers.

Since Q-Raus only need to sit for stowage, I don't see a need for the pilot to be able to fit completely inside while sitting. How about this solution: the pilot's seat extends upward when the Q-Rau is in the sitting position, then retracts after the pilot gets in and turns the key. At the same time, the Q-Rau stands up. Only problem is, the leg mobility would be limited while flying.

Super description, Anubis! I agree, it's probably an oversight, but is it possible that Shin could have grabbed the UWARS or something else connected to the chute before it deployed (and not gotten his shoulders dislocated when it did deploy)? -
Two places with stats/diagrams of the Legioss are http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~cyclone/ and http://www.artemisgames.com/robotech/Resea...a/Mospeada.html But I couldn't find anything helpful other than a reference to the Legioss being capable of "VTOL rectification" (related to the stall speed stat). To me this implies that the Legioss has some VTOL capability which can be used to prevent stalling; if this means there are some ducted fan outlets, they could also be used to control pitch, I'd guess. But it probably just means that a Legioss can activate the legs into partial armo-diver mode, similar to the Valkyrie's "Gerwalk brake" maneuver. One thing I notice is that the Legioss's trailing wing surfaces are pretty far back on the body, so maybe it can be controlled like a delta wing, using elevons. But I got in trouble last time I wandered into that realm. Paging David!

Correct, the caduceus was carried by Hermes/Mercury, who in addition to being the messenger of the gods, was also associated with magic and the occult. He has been identified with the Egyptian god Thoth (at least according various occultists/mystics). Thoth, by the way, was most often depicted by the Egyptians as a man with the head of an ibis. (I just found out by doing a little reading that the caduceus of Mercury is different from the staff of Aesculapius, the Greco-Roman god of medicine; nevertheless, for some reason, modern medical organizations have often chosen the caduceus instead of the single-snake Aesculapian staff as their symbol.) Yup. At least according to the TV continuity. But maybe Kawamori is going to use some of the DYRL continuity after all. That bit about the bird man and the woman that Backstabber just mentioned (I don't recall the details myself) is reminiscent of the Zentran/Meltran split, and the idea of a female pilot "returning", accompanied by global destruction, sounds a bit like the plot of DYRL.

Sorry to hear that... Getting back to Sharon symbols, and winged staves, does this ring any bells? Especially in light of bsu legato's comment about DNA resembling the "'two snakes intertwined' in the islanders blood" that Sara talks about in one scene. (More pictures here.)

Nope, we see two parachutes as the Valk goes down. -
Looking forward to it, and very pleased that Tobey Maguire will be reprising his role. There was some buzz about him having to skip the part due to an injury during filming Seabiscuit. Glad to see he was able to get back into shape.

(Some M+ spoilers in white below. Highlight text to read.) I wonder, does anyone else see a similarity between the "Sharon" symbol at the bottom of this post, the virtual giant bird which appears superimposed on the Macross as it emerges and which Sharon flies around on when she's taking over Macross city at the end of Macross Plus, the "birdman" symbols/staffs used on Mayan, and the AFOS (especially the premonition of it flying that Sara has during Episode 1)? Is this just a case of an artist who likes certain visual elements, or is it further evidence that the "birdman" shape of the VF's--and the storm attacker Macross!--isn't just a coincidence but somehow inherited as a "racial memory" from the Protoculture, and connected to the "power of song"/anima spiritia theme that also runs through the Macross franchise?

Welcome to Macross World! This question has come up many times. Just browse back in the Toys forum or do a search. The short answer is: (a) Nobody knows outside of Yamato, and they'll publicly commit to is a 1/60 Destroid Monster and a pair of 1/60 Queadluun-Raus (Millia version and standard Meltran version). (b) If they did any of the M+ Valks in 1/48, they'd be huge. Also, while the Yamato VF-11 toys are somewhere around 1/60 scale, the Yamato VF-19 and VF-21 are 1/72 scale.

In the middle of all the action, they could cut to a splitscreen telephone conversation with Roy inviting Hikaru to the Macross christening ceremonies. Yes, it would be lame beyond lame.
