  1. Looks very good so far, especially with the metal upgrade parts. Waiting to see the finished model. In the 80's I had built the six-legged Sand Stalker. I remember the turret, both kits share the same.
  2. Just finished: Gunhed 2025 Special Edition I'm a big fan of Gunhed since I saw the movie the first time in the early 90s. I've seen the kit years before and now as I started modeling again, it was a must. At first I planned to put on some camouflage and rust like seen in the movie, but after lots of research I noticed that almost all other works on the web are done like that. And after the first application of the main body color (which came out as very dark blue-grey) I decided to let it shine as brand new just as Guney came out of factory for test drive. Only the tires, metallic exhaust pipes in the middle and the claws underwent some weathering. And the blank metal on the extendable parts on the arms and undercarriage got an oily look. Damn that thing looks so cool , hard to find an appropriate display location
  3. Wow, looks awesome. It‘s a damn cool camouflage scheme and it really looks like in the comic. Great work, I Love it!
  4. Yes, due to its size you can really go for details. But nowadays I‘d like to get a Valkyrie at this size which I could hang down the ceiling (like I did with the Tamiya F14 those days)
  5. Oh, I got this Tomcat, too. It was too huge. And sadly it was one of the first kits I used my new air brush on. It looked awful - and it did not make it through the 90s'. But I still find some parts of it every now and then and use them as painting samples.
  6. Ok, second and final run of the paint job for my second set of the YF-25 Tornado Parts is done, too. The outcome of yesterdays spray work is much better than I expected. Someone who doesn't know that this color version does not exist won't guess that some parts of the painting are not out of factory. Especially the outer black and yellow fins got nearly perfect. Now that I have the comparison between hand brushed and airbrushed version, I realize I should have done the latter one on the first parts, too. I tried to make the YF-25 pose in Battroid mode without its stand, but no chance. The wing/engine sections of the Tornado pack are far too heavy to hold itself in a good pose .
  7. Just started today with the airbrushing of my second Alto Tornado Parts. Have I already mentioned that I hate masking? The surface of the the airbrushed parts is not that smooth as of the hand painted ones, but the distribution is perfekt of course. On the hand painted parts you can see the brushstrokes if you take a closer look. Here's the outcome in comparison to the hand painted part:
  8. Yes, brush painted, but as I mentioned earlier only the orange areas and the black outer fins with its yellow tips. But even with double coating of paint the orange color kept its smooth surface. Over Christmas I plan to do the repaint on my second Alto Tornado parts, too, as I still have some mixed orange paint left. But this time I'll give it a try by spray gun.
  9. Just finished the Eltemus, now waiting to challenge its opponent : Within the parcel of this kit came a Gunpla-catalogue and now I feel the urge to get some Gundam-kits as well. Bad world

    Bandai DX VF-31

Thanks for the link, too. Just ordered. My first order from NY. Just noticed they offer a cheap and duty free shipping method to Europe (13+VAT). The delivery takes 10 days, but that's OK for me. So I give it try.
  11. This is just the feeling I got two days ago while working on my latest mecha plastic kit (Broken Blade Eltemus Golem 1/60 btw.). The thought crossed my mind if I’m not to old for this hobby by now and how long could I stick to it? A few years ago, when I turned 40, I stumbled across Luca’s RVF-25 renewal version. In my youth I built lots of Robotech kits and with this perfect look of those new Bandai toys I had to get it. By now my Macross collection counts 14 Valks plus different sets of super and armored parts and the VF-31A on order. Plus several mechas from other series, too. On display by turns. Further I began watching mecha anime series again and I hate myself seeing what I missed in the past years. As for me I think this kind of hobby enhances both creativity and fantasy (as long it does not get to excessive). And it is a shame that the second one is in danger to disappear when you have to deal with adult life. My conclusion is you’re never too old for something if it makes you feel good. Especially as real life is not fun all the time. I hope Macross is still there when I’m eighty, just consider what quality these Valks will have!

    Bandai DX VF-31

Damn, just made the decision to skip Mirage‘s Super Parts. But now with those missiles again all is open.

Speaker pods could come as an extra set just like Gallia set for VF-25? Extra cash for Bandai
  14. The YF-25 is the only Valk I have three of. Now that I see the other modes, I feel the urge to get two other sets of Tornado parts although I have no ambition to do the same paint job once more
  15. I still think about changing the markings from SMS to NUNS markings. That would make it look even more authentic. But I can only find those U.N.Spacy markings. Does anyone know where to get water slide decals for NUNS-markings?
  16. I just painted over by hand. I thinned the custom orange a little bit, gladly it had still enough opacity. I applied two layers by brush. No masks, just a calm hand The painted areas are all orange surfaces and the black yellow outer fins. the rest I just left as it came out of the box.
  17. Thanks all That was my thought too when I attached the parts after rework the first time @wmkjr: I used Tamyia paints. Base was X-6 glossy orange with X-21 flat base to get a semi-gloss finish. Unfortunately I don't have any information on the ratios as I mixed it just by trial and error. Had to start over three times. I used also a little amount of yellow and red brown as far as I remember. @Mommar: Left it in fighter mode all the time, but good idea, I'll gonna make some pics.
  18. I could not find anything about this done before, so I’d like show my repaint of VF-25s Tornado Pack to fit on the YF-25 Prophecy. The YF-25 is still my favorite Valkyrie due to it’s colors and design (Maybe this will change after the release of the VF-31A Kairos though ). When the Tornado Packs for the renewal versions of the VF-25 came out, I always tried to get a hand on Michel’s blue colored pack, but I couldn’t grab one at a reasonable price. But then I made a good deal on ebay and got a second Alto version and decided to make a repaint to fit an the YF-25. The outcome you can see below. I’m glad I went for this „Tornado“-solution for my YF-25, as in my opinion Michel’s Tornado Pack is much too colorful for the YF-25 and its shade of blue doesn’t match the blue color behind the cockpit of the YF-25.
  19. Just arrived: Eltemus Golem from Broken Blade. Thought it would be easy to handle but now I see the kit has over 200 parts, wow. At least no boring weekends for me
  20. Great idea! Please, do the beam cannon as well. (Reminder to me: Put a 3D printer on my wish list for Xmas )
