  1. Saw Robotech as a kid in the States in `85 where my Dad had a 3 year posting. I had 0 interest in Transformers (still do) but got my parents to get me Jetfire for Xmas because I knew he was really a "veritech". Returned to Australia and told other kids about it but they didn`t believe me, kids in Australia were still nuts about G-Force then. Then RT came on in Australia in around `87 (??) and I was like "I toldya that people die in this one!" In about `93 I found out about books Nippan/US renditions (ha that name has a different meaning these days!) and Macross II/Gunbuster from the back of comic books/anime `zines of the time (I was heavily into American comic books). Stuff like Protoculture addicts or even Animerica filled me in on how Robotech was the bastardised version of 3 different Japanese shows. Was into role playing games too (full geek in high school) and read about DYRL in the back of one of the Robotech Paladium rules books. I remember it said something like "This movie was never official and was a flashy and shallow money making project by big film studio executives.." or something LOL. I`m pretty sure this part was written by Macek himself? I also vaguely remember going to the public library and desperately photocopying the line art pages of my friends` brothers copy of the Robotech RPG in like `89 or something.. Joined a local anime club in `95 or so and borrowed a tape of DYRL. Then found out about the subbed Macross series being released. Got all those tapes via mail order in the days of slow ass money order payment. A whole new world opened up. I might have some years wrong here but please correct me if my memory is wrong.

    Passing the torch

If I had kids I wouldn`t post their pics on the internet. Or just to be on the safe side I`d obscure their face. Thats just me tho.
  3. Wow, hardcore fans really will buy ANYTHING attached to their favorite franchise. I collect Air Jordan sneakers but stick to the classics (I-VII, original colorways only, pre 2003 retros only) but the stuff Nike puts out that fans buy is mind bogglingly ugly and stupid. For example its like they put out say the Air Jordan III and the Air Jordan VII 10 times each in 10 different colorways so they`re like "what do we do now? - I know! combine the III and VII into one shoe!" And fanboys buy it. The ones that do never even saw Jordan play though and are young and stupid. I guess the Star Wars toys in the pic are the same, blatant money makers to swindle gullible fans. Who was the idiot in the marketing department that suggested combining Luke and an X wing into one bizarre and shitty looking toy? He was the genius that got a promotion for seeing how many idiots there are in the fanboy community that will buy ANYTHING with "Star Wars" written on it. Now THESE are cool, something with authenticity, that smart Star Wars fans would buy:
  4. when was the last time hollywood had an original idea?
  5. utorrent has that feature aswell. btw I never noticed that Layzner features a young Conan Obrien before...
  6. When I find every piece of `80s Macross merchandise in Nakano Broadway it`s all over. (ie: never.)
  7. Ninja Scroll always attracted the dumbest anime fans in clubs in my city. These acne covered 15 year olds would turn up to screenings I used to organise at my university and be like "mate, do you have stuff like ninja scroll? thats soooo good!!" . Then they`d walk out after 10 minutes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Once this guy at the university`s Japanese language club tried to organise an anime party featuring Ninja Scroll and invited all the Japanese girls.
  8. In my own personal canon its more canon than Mac 7, plus, zero or Frontier which I don`t recognize as official.
  9. Just wondering where the `80s Macross Takatoku 1/55s were manufactured? Japan? Hong Kong, Macau or China? Thanks
  10. damn those Animage issues with Mikimoto covers are gorgeous. Going to try to pickup some at Nakano Mandrake today.
  11. I was actually thinking you were more into "moe" and underage looking girls than comedy.
  12. or simply as a verb: "this thread fails". Its actually LESS typing than "this thread is fail". Apparantly deliberately changing the function of the word comes off as contrived and annoying to me. I`m pretty sure its an internet/young thing. I feel older and older the more I use the internet. I`m 31.
  13. why are you using the word fail as an adjective? Don`t you speak English?
  14. Not me. I think I consider pretty much everything post Flashback 2012 non canon anyway tho. Your avatar gives away what kind of goofy anime you like. Macross Frontier was goofy. No surprise you like it.
  15. thanks for your post.
  16. ^ I really disliked Gurren Lagan and its goofy designs and dumb humor. I think SDF Macross is the best anime ever created. Thats why I`m here. It has everything.
  17. I remember the Robotech Defenders series. When I was a kid I didn`t actually have any of the kits but I had a small poster with the whole line on it and I used to study it for hours. Some of those mecha were damn cool and I wondered where the hell they were supposed to be in the show. Did you at least get "RDF" kite decals to put on with the Revel kits?
  18. Some great stuff in here. I have a small collection of about 10 out of print books from the original series that I picked up at Nakano Mandrake for peanuts (Perfect Memory, TIA series, Graffiti, etc etc). Someone gave me a 10,000yen tosho card (book voucher for new books). What Macross books originally published in the `80s or based on the original series/DYRL?/Flashback are still in print? Anything?
  19. that game is in the bargain bins here in Japan. 2000yen last time I checked.
  20. Great page. Some hardcore `80s titles there.
  21. A lot of SEALS have a lot of upper body strength for roping up the side of ships and from swimming but Green Berets are more like marathon runners usually. The typical special forces operator is calm, intelligent, physically fit (not a body builder) and brave, patriotic and fearless as hell.
  22. I got 2 of the new 1/60s and they`re both perfect in every way.
