The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

I was hoping they'd find a way to collapse them to cover that gap at the rear of the tank, rather than just toss them on top, like a London double-decker tank. The barrel extension looks odd, too. I'm thinking the add-ons are great for bot mode, but need to mass shift back into their box when rolling for doom. Cute little Galvy there.- 9325 replies

Asaaj Ventress...once freed from being just another two dimensional bad guy, she became one of the most interesting characters in the entire series. Towards the end of the series, my interest was always piqued when she showed up in an episode...just the whole 'what is she going to do?' factor. She's too good a character to abandon, and I think she'll show up in Rebels at some point, perhaps as a Rebel herself.

I'm thinking they used magnets and a series of gyroscopes, akin to how the Segway operates. I figured this was CG; I'm glad to be wrong, and I'm glad that craftmanship and technology like this are still used in the movies. I could see this being used in practical situations...searching for survivors in tight quarters, radiation detection, etc. Concerning Battlefront, I think there may have been a few gameplay scenes, but yeah, I got the sense it was mostly cutscenes. Looks like a movie instead of a game; hopefully they can replicate that in the gameplay.

Those wing packs look great in jet mode, but look like kibble overload in battroid. To me anyway. If I ever manage to order one, I'll probably leave them off, since all my valks are displayed in battroid. Love the tampo/ I wish Arcadia would follow suit.

Prob around $3000, give or take. Just a drop in the bucket compared to what I've spent on LEGO. Or Transformers.

Beautiful. Now you just need to feed the data into a 3d printer. Seeing the early renderings reminded me of Zoids for some reason, which made me think, how awesome would it be if Tak-Tomy got a limited Macross license to produce a motorized Zoid-ish version of the Monster. If it wasn't astronomically priced, I'd be down for one.

I agree; those tan accents. -
I still have one, but mine's molded in dark blue. Mine only had the VF-1 stickers. I got it at the Dollar Store when I was a kid. At the time, I had no idea what Macross, or Robotech for that matter, was. Jetfire was my only reference to the VF-1.

I hope they cover the portion of fusion cannon between the arms in tank mode. Curious to see where they stash all those parts, esp the huge feet.- 9325 replies

I built this in 2011; it is fully transformable without parts-swapping. It has a lot of poseability, esp in the shoulders, which swivel out and rotate. The landing gear is retractable, and the canopy can open to admit a minifig. The light gray/dk blue color scheme is in deference to the old Classic Space sets (plus I had more lt gray than white) :) All decals are custom made.

I like this pic, as it gives a sense of scale relative to the pilot, and shows the nosewheel steering. This is also an older picture; the model has since been modified to improve the inside wing /chest pieces to better shape out the upper and lower inlets. -

Really sunny day, and I wanted to take max advatage of the natural light. Unfortunately, most of these shots are washed out by the sunlight, and my camera doesn't filter it well. I tried all the settings, and these pics turned out the best. Shrug. -

Another pic for BrickCon placard. My idea was that this version of the VF-4, the VF-4L, was contracted for civilian sector defense, esp urban law enforcement and rescue ops, as a side venture for U.N. Spacy. After all, why let a good design go to waste? So, in this pic, I was testing the concept of the VF-4 protecting valuable logistics assets. I had a LEGO cargo ship, cargo plane, and a train set up as background props. I took some better pics in the field, where only the sky is visiable behind the props, but I'm not sure where I put them. Anyway, I like this pic b/c it shows how much the knee can bend while the model remains self supporting. The knees and hips are just technic ball joints, although I did cheat and put a small folded piece of paper in the hip joint for added stiffness. It does the job. -

Another pic taken for BrickCon. I wanted to show the GERWALK being useful, so I made a two-shot scenario showing the little hazmat dude in need of rescue, with the VF-4 swooping in, and a second shot flying away with dude in-hand, Minmay style. This was shot in a nearby field, with the surroundings providing a nice background to indicate desolate isolation for the hapless hazmat guy. As before, the model was attached to a stick, which I edited out in Paint, the poor man's Photoshop. -

While looking for different backdrops to use for my BrickCon placard, I saw this fence surrounding the power supply for the park near my house. It was really windy that day, and she fell over once or twice while I tried to shoot a useable pic without my hand in the picture. We both survived the experience, although I think my blood pressure probably spiked a bit. -

I took this pic in a field near my house one beautiful day last summer (2014) to use for a placard for a display at BrickCon, a large LEGO convention held each year in Seattle. The model itself was attached to a stick made of clear technic pieces, and my wife dutifully held it up against the sky for me to photograph. I don't own Photoshop, so I used Paint to eradicate the stick. It was my first time editing a photograph, and I think it turned out ok...she actually looks like she's soaring. -
I can't argue with their pricing shenanigans, but I have NY to thank for a goodly portion of my valks. They've come through for me a number of times when I couldn't find a particular valk anywhere. Also, they always pack my stuff well with lots of cushioning in the box. HLJ just puts the item in a box slightly larger than the item and stretches a piece of celophane over it. Fortunately, I've never had anything damaged, but it seems lacking for a fragile item.
