  1. Does this toy have the same clips to hold the fins in place that the VT-1 had? If so, and if by some chance you're not using them, you might find that those would help with keeping the backpack in place for mild handling.
  2. It's probably the only Yamato valk Yamato themselves own. You just found the "pre-photo shop color added" pics.
  3. For what it's worth, I updated my Toynami Beta review to include the Aoshima Tread. All the differences I found were purely superficial.
  4. HG has a license that will never expire. Uh, HG is creating Shadow Chronicles and has licensed a movie to be made. HG is not a toy manufacturer. Much like Big West makes money for the name Macross and doesn't make toys.
  5. I played Beatles Rock Band at a buddy's house the other night. I suspect there was either something wrong with my buddy's mic or that there's something wrong with what notes that game thinks Paul was hitting. We had to have people scream out in the shrillest tones ever to get the game to think we were singing properly. It was the most hilarious night of playing video games I think I have ever experienced. Otherwise, I prefer Rock Band 2.
  6. As has been stated elsewhere, that's not entirely fair since every indication is that Yamato treats its customers like gold in Japan. It's the people outside of Japan that have the gripe but Yamato is not allowed, due to its licensing agreements, to do anything to help you or to encourage you to buy its products in the first place. I'm not arguing that all the broken shoulders of Yamatos past should be overlooked, I'm just saying they'd probably do a lot to help you... if they could.
  7. I vote with my wallet. I didn't feel I got good bang for my buck out of the VF-11B and to a lesser extent the VF-22S. As such, I won't be buying any more of those toys unless they're on mega sale.
  8. The toy is put away so I can't double-check but I didn't note anything peculiar about the wings when I was doing my review. I was also comparing the toy to my Focker so it's probably safe to say that it has the same tightness/looseness as my other 1/60V2s.
  9. I looked at mine for gnurling when I did my review and didn't see any. I wonder if you just have the misfortune of getting a poorly put together shoulder.
  10. Even so, I hope they add some more contrast to the colors by the time everything is final. Obviously it's a thing of beauty but I want it to POP a bit more.
  11. I love hearing anyone within anime complaining about the direction it's going in because usually I agree with it. I can definitely see myself not watching any more anime at some point in the near future... then I'll have kids... then ten years from now I'll probably watch anime again because my kids will be into it.
  12. Interviewer: So Mr. Itano, what do you think of Macross Frontier? Itano: They didn't pay me for it so it sucks. Interviewer: Oh, that's uh... Itano: Yeah, the whole industry sucks. Interviewer: But you work in the industry and you've worked on a bunch of stuff that sounds exactly like what you're complaining about Itano: Yeah but they paid me so those projects don't suck.
  13. Seconded. I thoroughly enjoyed that film on several levels. First, Christopher Walken as a very bad angel was the perfect part for him. The quirky humor involved with his suicide slaves was great. Vigo Mortensen (I think that's who it was) also did a fantastic job as the devil. Some of the lines in that movie were perfect. The devil telling the detective to "leave a light on" is the kinda line that makes an audience member chuckle while simultaneously feeling a little scared. I'm not too sure what to make of this Legion film but the fact it has a similar vibe to Prophecy in the preview is a good thing to me. There were other Prophecy films but if I recall, even with Walken, they sucked. Constantine was another movie along those lines and much flashier than Prophecy and I seem to recall it being fairly enjoyable (if not as witty/creepy as Prophecy). Yes, you do have to have somewhat lowered expectations of angels to make these movies work. Obviously if they're invincible killing machines than any movie where humans were trying to fight against them would suck (probably the same reason I was never into Superman). Also, just as Physicists have to dumb themselves down for scifi movies, I'm sure people who are really into religion have to let themselves be willfully ignorant to really enjoy a film of this nature. If the movie is going to tell you "God decided to send angels to destroy man" you just have to accept that God, in the context of this movie, had a good reason for doing things that way. If you watch the movie and they never touch on what that reason was, then it's a good time to start bashing it.
  14. If they don't think the Spartan is a stand-alone winner then i'd love to see them make it into some sort of giftset and package it with another toy that people might want. Make it a 1/60 Spartan and Vritai gift set featuring the Spartan toy and a Vritai toy with various points of articulation. Then people who want to have Vritai attacking Hikaru with a pipe will go ahead and buy the Spartan figure also.
  15. This thread should be brought to life again soon... if not just for a moment. The CMs character figures should be coming out so that'll cause a tiny bit of action. My Aoshima Tread update to the Toynami review should also be happening soon although it will be one of my less exciting updates I'm sure. Being an accountant, I think the Ley/Ray figure was the only second toy that really made sense. The sales figures on the Ley/Ray toy are almost entirely bonus money from the Stick production run. It's a shame the line died but I don't think you can fault the release order. If Houquet had come out second it would have just been more lost money for Beagle, not a better shot of them completing the line.
  16. I did a review of these on anymoon.com. Shameless plug and all, you should take a look and see if that helps you out.
  17. No, that was said about Gamlin and it's still in stock at many stores. It's still a fair warning... maybe Max, Milia, or the 11C will prove to be more popular than Gamlin.
  18. Ha, I remember watching both those episodes and at the end just thinking "Damn, that was really, really sad..." Not quite on the tears level but pretty surprising coming from Futurama.
  19. On a whole there is no comparison, the V2 is a ridiculously better toy than the V1. That said, the V1 was a very good effort for fighter mode only if you don't care about transformation gimmicks and are a bigger stickler on the shape of the craft rather than its total appearance. From a total appearance standpoint, the extra details and uniform build qualities on the V2 are the easy winner. I'm hoping to do a review of the VT-1 soon so I should have lots of comparison pics for you to judge by (but that's only going to be useful to you if you can wait a couple weeks).
  20. You gotta love the LV UN Spacy kite that couldn't dare be red on an LV bird... right next to the bright yellow trim.
  21. New review is up at anymoon.com!
  22. Wasn't it said that the VF100 line has already failed which prompted the creation of the Hi-Metal 1/100 line? I'm sure a Hi-Metal line will be decidedly less ambitious in terms of which mechs might appear than the VF100 line was.
  23. There's a line in my DX review that was definitely inspired by the chatter here about "if you're having problems with armor check Youtube." Did your review actually show you putting the armor on though? I kinda just assumed some fan will put a how to guide up eventually.
  24. Yeah, from what I hear Yamato is fantastic on Customer Service... if you live in Japan. If you live outside of Japan all they can do is shrug because technically they're not allowed to service internationally.
  25. So because the SAP has two things at the end of the wings, the Tornado armor is INSPIRED by it? C'mon, now tell me how Robotech influences Macross... that's my next favorite argument. OOh, or tell me how, because the VF-25 pictured is red AND white it must be a rip off of that particular VF-2SS. Many others have pointed out similarities to Gundam designs in Kawamori's work also. So did Gundam rip off MacII? Wait, since MacII was an effort to make Kawamori's designs more futuristic, would he be ripping off a rip off? Obviously, the whole argument is silly and unless you really ARE going to argue that Robotech influenced Macross, it's not really an appropriate thread. The designs in question (the 41) cover pretty much everything you know and love about the original Macross, the major characters, and the mecha in their various modes. Essentially all those designs belong to Studio Nue (per Tommy in the clip) but since Tatsunoko was the one that made them into a production, Tatsunoko gets a share of any economic benefit derived from those designs. So, HG is set in that their rights to merchandising and distributing Macross are fine but they have no intellectual property rights over the 41 designs identified in the first lawsuit. It's always a muddled topic because he can say "Tatsunoko gave us all the rights" but the implied "to merchandising and distributing the original series" gets dropped off so Memo and others make the jump to mean that Tatsunoko some how magically gets IP rights and also gives them to HG.
