  1. I would guess that Yamato opted against metal shoulders for cost reasons. I think that plastic shoulders also works better in that there's some "give" to the part since it swivels and has two different primary positions. Essentially this "give" makes the shoulder connectors nicer to all the other plastic parts involved which allows the toy to be a bit tighter overall. Finally, the plastic can be molded in color whereas a metal part would probably remain unpainted metal. Personally though, I'd prefer metal and a shoulder that didn't break over those benefits.
  2. Mospeada could have had a great prequel mini-series. It also could have spawned a full saga if handled properly (had it been SUPER popular). The Mospeada universe wasn't all that flushed out by the story of a rag-tag team driving to North America.
  3. It's kind of hard to believe this is going to be some silly oversight. Even the replacement arms I was sent, that had never been on a valk, cracked from the pressure of the pin.
  4. Ask Kevin why Tommy Yune said that HG wasn't going forward with SR until WB did something with the Robotech name at Comic-con and how that is different from a "hiatus." That's what got me banned... and I'm pretty sure I was simply banned because Kevin was sent off to New Orleans during Comic-con and didn't get to hear Tommy come clean. Since Kevin got in so much trouble for saying "hiatus" he can't believe that Tommy goes around saying "yeah, we're not going to move Shadow Rising until WB puts us in a better position" because it's so unfair that Tommy gets to be honest with the fans while Kevin has to be constantly lying.
  5. Yeah, I got banned from RT.com and in hindsight I wished it had happened years ago. Talk about a waste of time. Does that mean I swore off Robotech merchandise though? No, I still buy stuff. Would I buy anything from RT.com? No... but that was like one item every other year at the most so they cost themselves like $2.50 by banning me.
  6. Is it too soon to start waiting for the 1/48 V2? I was really hoping we were beyond the broken shoulders but that looks exactly like the same issue from the original Roy toys. I guess in the absence of an official confirmation from Yamato that the problem is fixed it's not right to assume it's long behind us. "More caution at the factory" can only go so far.
  7. Not to be rude... but the only difference you would be able to see is the head... the GBP covers like 90% of the toy. I guess if you like posing the toy so you see it's back that might be something different. I took pictures of the 1/48 GBP on just about every 1/48 VF toy (although I shrank 'em too small so the pics don't look all that wonderful) but what I learned from that experience was that the GBP pretty much looks the same on everything.
  8. I was under the impression they're still on vacation so I haven't expected any response. I guess I'm going back to work tomorrow (their today) so I would hope for a response some time this week. From the sounds of it I'll bet they're pretty inundated. EDIT - The Hik GBP was released 12/29. That means it's been like ONE, maybe TWO business days since it would have been received. I'm in the same boat, I ordered seven items to ship all when the GBP was released.
  9. I would hope in the Avatar universe "unobtainium" is slang for some large scientific name or the commercial name of the element.
  10. I'm waiting for the following items from three different sources: 1) Yamato 1/60V2 Hikaru VF-1J with GBP Parts 2) Yamato 1/60V2 Focker VF-1S Strike "Plus" Edition 3) Yamato 1/60V2 Elintseeker 4) Bandai DX Macross Quarter 5) Bandai Robot Damashii Q-Rea 6) Bandai Robot Damashii Alto 7) Bandai 1/250 Collection 2 (1 Box) CMs Drone Legioss 9) CMs Mospeada figure set
  11. Robot Damashii is non-transformable, like Yamato's GNU Mac+ series. They're not really to any scale either, I believe they're slightly smaller than a 1/100 scale toy.
  12. I think this was my favorite pic from the updated post I did on the Stealth.
  13. The more common comment is that the GBP VF-1 looks a lot like a hockey goalie. It makes sense either way, a humanoid form wearing bulky pads.
  14. 1/48 fits on all 1/48s... you're doing something wrong but I'm afraid I can't help you figure out what's up.
  15. The trick is making a similar plot line FEEL fresh. Giving it a twist here or there. Avatar doesn't do this. It's one thing to say stories have similar plot points. That's bound to happen. Movies also normally have a pretty traditional format with three major acts, introductions, difficulties, resolutions. As long as the movie keeps you on your toes by misleading the viewer occasionally that's not an issue. Avatar never really attempts to mislead viewers. It points you in a direction and then takes you down that path. It's a pretty path... but not a surprising one.
  16. My guess is, they made the switch, they went on vacation for the holidays, and now something is hung up and they're not around to fix it and even if they were there'd be no orders sent for a week.
  17. I'm in the same boat with OD but I find it hard to believe all the old accounts are just gone. Maybe they'll make you create a new account but there's still a lot of old order information in with the old accounts. At least this doesn't look to be another Amenbo situation.
  18. I know it seems unobtainium took a back seat in the film, and I think maybe we're missing a cut scene, but the unobtainium is the perfect conductor so that's theoretically how everything on the planet is connected. I think they were trying to dumb the film down to appeal to as many people as possible so they didn't focus too much on the undoubtedly very loose science that kept the fictional world together. I heard there was some featurette where it was explained that large unobtainium deposits also have large magnetic properties which is how the mountains fly and why sensors don't work and such. So, while it's not explained well it's playing a crucial part.
  19. I'm waiting for a bunch of other toys to arrive so I can picture them all together. It probably won't be for at least another week . I'm looking forward to it but there's a lot of other things going on right now.
  20. Most items they are very quick but I understand there's about to be an onslaught of Japanese holidays so you might be in for some delays.
  21. Agreed, I used Detolfs for a long time and dust was very rarely an issue. If I ever have a chance to display my collection again I'm going to look for an old store display case that's taller and wider, preferably with locks. I had 4 Detolfs at one point... that was fun.
  22. I bought mine on eBay, something like $175 shipped? I shouldn't go on eBay at work but I believe the guy had more of them. The listing is something like CMs Legioss Eta with Improved Parts. The Improved parts is pictured in the ebay ad and it does have the upgraded intakes, new gun, etc. The thing that is throwing me is that the upgraded parts are in a completely separate box. Essentially I got a first release Legioss/Tread and a supplemental box that I can use to upgrade it. I figured everything would just be in one box but that's not the case. I think CMs just cheaped it out big time, created a box of improvement parts, and then sent them to people who had existing Eta Legioss toys so they could sell the backstock as improved new stock. EDIT - This means I'm going to have an extra blue legioss/tread. If you don't care too much about the improvement parts shoot me a PM.
  23. Did anyone else buy the upgraded CMs Blue Legioss/Tread? I'm wondering if my experience thusfar is typical. I essentially got a standard blue legioss and tread with an extra box that has the upgrade parts. I know the upgrade parts were just another tray they threw in but I thought they were all in the same box and mine came as two separate boxes... very odd.
  24. Ha! I think I gave them a pass since it was a mecha with knife against biological stuff instead of two mechas or super beings dueling with knives. That last fight I definitely shut down mentally to just enjoy the visual spectacles.

    HLJ Yamato sale

They probably just adjusted everything for a more recent exchange rate.
