OT, but... hmm. I already destroyed my copies of the broadcast/fansubs, but how about this quick one that actually got included into the actual dvd-version itself: Iirc, there were a number of misdrawings and stuff in both GitS-SAC's 1st-Gig and 2nd-Gig during the broadcast-run that were eventually mostly cleaned-up/improved in the dvd-version. Guess the one I attached didn't get improved on. As such, quite a number of us here already stated that Frontier's stuff ain't really that bad for a broadcast-version of an anime, so try not to get your collective panties in a bunch.

That's why I listed it as the SDFM-link for Frontier. Frontier has yet to use the term "Meltran" (DYRL-specific) in any of the episodes so far.

let's try this tally exercise. Macross Frontier's specific links to various other Macross series. -- SDFM == zentran is referred to both male and female zentraedi, "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" announced/acknowledged as legendary idol-song. -- DYRL == crimson Q-Rau, opening graphic-still (Vritai reaching for Minmay) in an episode or two. -- Macross Plus == Planet Eden being one of the colonial launchpads in the intro. -- Macross 7 == brief M7-song in Ozma's radio. -- Macross Zero == "Nome" surname, upcoming episode titled "Legend of Zero/Shin Kudo" movie. I guess anything else other than those listed will now be considered fan-fic (e.g. protodevlin, supervision army, etc, etc). Unless of course, they do get a specific mention within the future episodes. Feel free to add anything specific and outright mentioned in Frontier's episodes that ties in with the other Macross-series. No speculations!

hmmm. That last info from Kevin somehow got me bit worried and a bit suspicious regarding this "deal" with Toynami. I was already leery and not really sure if I can really trust Toynami with proper and timely distribution of these Bandai-1/55s domestically. That "same molds" bit just added more apprehension to me. I want these domestic 1/55s to be genuine Bandai and not some repackaged Toynami-MPCs or something. I also just don't wanna be futilely hunting these supposedly domestic 1/55s way way beyond whatever the official release-date will be. Especially the Super-Max and Super-Hikky. To be safe, I pre-ordered at hlj to be sure I'm getting genuine Bandai and to take advantage of the measly 5% preorder-discount. I don't mind double-dipping if I see genuine Supers in stores here in the US.

IMO, Nanase's designs were inconsistent from ep-2 onwards or somewhere thereabouts. Sheryl's was pretty in the press-conference, then got ugly eyebrows and stuff in the backstage and actual concert scenes. Ranka's was inconsistent from pretty much every scenes. Well, except for the hippocow-jammies shot, I think. As for Alto, his designs were also inconsistent, but not really by much in comparison with Sheryl's and Ranka's. In some scenes, he's GAR and a bishounen-moemoe. In others, his design was just flat. Didn't really notice that much ugliness with the other characters such as Luca, Mikhail, and the bridge-bunnies. Kathy, Grace, Leon, and the SMS Captain were fine. Klan^2 was fine, too, even with her swinging fun-bags. Bobby was, well, ugly by design already since ep-1.

I say they've redefined the term "fun bags" with Klan^2's swinging/hanging boobies.

The animation is fine in this ep. Character and non-character movements were consistent and good. However, the designs on Ranka and Sheryl particularly took a hit on certain scenes with thicker and inconsistent lines/detailing, making some of their faces subpar and ugly. A bit of a contrast to previous episodes, where there were no detailing at all resulting in subpar designs (or non-designs, if you may) as well. As such, I'm just not bothered by any of it. I'd seen far worse (like Ergo Proxy's tv-run). They're noticeable, sure, but I chalk it up to simple rushed tv-scheduling. I'm pretty confident they'll clean it up in the home-video versions (vhs/dvd/bd/etc) like, say, Ergo Proxy's dvd-production.

Well, you just never know, dude. Amidst the cuteness and stuff, it could very well be quite a significant character-development plot-point. This series is a 26-ep series after all, right?

Only the settings are superficially similar. Ain't recycled at all even at that. I think you're just trying to convince yourself that there are these "Points" that somehow only you recognized as recycled stuff and that coz of it, MF must then be recycled stuff in your observation. Which is really completely bullshit to most everyone else who both knows the story and stuff of Macross and even to most casual macross-fans. Don't you think most of us Macross-vets here would be criticizing MF as much as well when we actually do recognize the same things as you do and most prolly more than you actually recognized? Yet, it's the complete opposite right now. Most of us are glad and stuff there are superficial homages and that these homages are more than distinguishable enough to make Frontier really that different from SDFM-TV or even DYRL. No. Hikaru was duty-bound to be patrolling and specifically looking for bad guys. He was derelict of that duty by tuning in to the pageant that's why lolicon-3 snuck up on him. Alto was training in a supposedly secure training grounds with the Pixie squadron, and then Vajra directly folded out to confront them. Alto was not even supposed to fight them at all since he doesn't any live ordnance with him. Go figure.

hmm. iirc, didn't Minmay got drafted heavily by the locals to join the first Miss Macross pageant for the morale of the trapped community? I don't think Hikaru ever pushed her or gave her any ideas about the Miss Macross pageant and stuff. In contrast, Ranka was pretty much heavily inspired by Alto to join it to realize something for herself and not for any community work. Another one is that Minmay, along with her singing talent, actually had a better body than Ranka, whereas the only thing Ranka had going for her in the pageant was her singing talent. Minmay was the town favorite, whereas Ranka was a nobody. Also, Alto is not anti-war as Hikaru. Hikaru ain't even attending highschool in SDFM-TV. I mean, really now.

The mountain (or anything) ain't gonna move unless it's got a PC marking like in Zero.

that's an interesting development. Well, as long as this news means I can actually find these Chunkies at the local TRU or Wally's or any other b&m that I don't have to pay shipping-fees and stuff, I'll be ok with Toynami.

I watched it on a HDTV set (westy-32w6) and my lcd-monitor (samsung 2220wm), alongside an old 19" crt. HDMI, DVI, VGA. However, I haven't watched it using Y/Pb/Pr connectors, so ymmv. At any rate, the graininess ain't that bad. Only at the beginning scenes of Britai and Exedol where the grain were quite noticeable. Unless of course, you sit and watch way too close at your hdtv or lcd-monitor ala watching a typical fansub. Even then, it depends on your display's calibration or, well, video-card / player settings.

i just gotta add to the chorus here about ep4... the battle scenes were just wicked awesome!!! vs in a dogfight. Gotta luv that victory pose sight-gag. vs in that brawl among the wreckage! then vs in a all-out brawl! oh, and I'm pretty sure the dvd and BD versions will fix up the rather rushed/generic animated character-designs. The bouncy-bouncy in the dressing room was a nice touch! btw, am I the only one that thought the Frontier team were somehow paying homage to Gundam-0083 with the battle-scenes, wreckage background and the GP01-like ? Sacrilege, I know. But hey! I always thought the was an Aestivalis-move/homage, too.
