Thanks guys! The spray paint instructions say to shake for three minutes which is three times the average. Thanks for your advice EXO, I'll shake the snot out of it for three minutes upside down! I'll test it and if it's thick, I'll try warming it up in some water. I looked all over and at every brand of paint, and this is the closest match I could find color wise. I'll post my paint review when I get to test it out! - MT

Yamato 1/3000 SDF-1 modification and paint up...
MechTech replied to wm cheng's topic in The Workshop!
Awesome work as always! Those micro valks are great. They're almost small enough to inject through a needle into someone's bloodstream to "fly" aroudn in. Hey, that could be a movie! Anyhow, great lookin' progress!!! - MT -
Thanks Benson! Now I gotta fit it into my budget (alongside the lathe). - MT

Awesome models everyone! Nautilus, you got the hook up man! Great stuff everyone! - MT

So has Bandai abandoned that 1/100 scale model kit line?
MechTech replied to Zoroastres's topic in Model kits
Their productions varies from year to year and it's hard to tell. For instance, they recently re-released the 1/100 Macross Factory which hasn't been on the market in decades. Wave supposedly still has their 1/00 Monster coming out too! Just keep your ears to the ground and on Ebay. Our fellow members are good at getting news out to the rest of us too! - MT -
Well guys, I was gonna paint the Daedlaus this weekend, then hurricane Sandy came into my back yard, so its gonna have to wait another weekend. This is the color I chose and bought four of for the "blue part" of the upper hull: http://www.utrechtart.com/Montana-Gold-Spray-Paint--Matte-Acrylic-Color--Mt--Fuji-MP27213-i1001029.utrecht What do you guys think of the color? So here's hoping we're not all washed out on the East coast and able to paint next weekend! - MT

Thanks for sharing! There were some other beauties on there too! - MT

I second Noyhauser's comment on the 1/200 Nichimo Yamato. The first pain, 1970's parts fit. The second pain, ABS plastic versus styrene. It takes tons of regular glue or ABS glue which is "hot" and far from healthy to use without ventilation. I built the bridge and now I'm trying to sell it. I even have all photo etch and GIANT brass barrels! - MT

That looks great! He cleaned up rather nicely. - MT

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
MechTech replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I'm hoping this will be molded in color so any scratched paint will just look like wear and tear (unless of course you're doing a custom paint scheme). - MT -
Your kit came out great! Nice job and I look forward to seeing some build-ups! - MT

BEAUTIFUL JOB! I think you got everything right. Too bad I won't see one at the next air show - MT

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
MechTech replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I know the standard here is to sometimes criticise a release before it comes out, but give it a chance. Bandai has done an awesome job with many of ther kits. They know the pressure will be on to get this right. - MT -
Macross Zero F-14 Shin Kudo Color Guide
MechTech replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Model kits
Thanks for that info too! I've got a Tomcat that only a Macross paint scheme would do it justice. - MT- 8 replies

Not again! Then again, is it the same kit? I recall it being one piece in parts and not in halves going down the centerline. I never had one though. - MT

Thanks for sharing ultraman! I think that's a cool idea and I love what you did with the glue! I wouldn't think of using that on a model, but this has exapnded my ideas for materials to use. I use it on models, but my favorite effect on a completely finished model is to drill a shallow hole, put ground match head powder into it, then indirectly heat it so it flares up. EXTREMELY realisitc. To use this on your toys, just use a thin piece of shaped plastic and double sided tape it to your pride and joy. The same thing could be used for panels "shot out." P.S. An old trick I used as a kid for "scars" was to drip white glue on a smooth surface, let it dry and color with crayons! The same thing with painted damage affect could be used on your model. Oh yeah, I just wet the back to make it stick, but I'd use tape on your toy. - MT

The modeling gods probably don't like me very much...
MechTech replied to GU-11's topic in The Workshop!
10cm is good. Most cans say something like a whole foot, and that's waaaay too far away anytime I've tried it. Warming the paint can help sometimes, but I find no difference unless the paint is REALLY cold. Room temperature seems to be the same as "warmed" temperature. Most of my large paint jobs are spray paint canned based. Hope that helps! - MT -
If you can't find primer, just go with a flat color paint like gray or white. The formulations can be identical sometimes. Try cleaning it with soap and water first to remove any residue that has bled out. That's the problem with cheap vinyls and polymers, they just break down. - MT

Thank you guys! As if this wasn't enough, I think I'm doing a simpler version in 1/350th scale. Some of the destroids are already in the works for it (while the weather is getting better for painting). I STILL need to buy the paint too! Thanks again! - MT

Thanks Petar! It takes someone to scratch build or to seriously work on a type of model fo rit to be released in a styrene kit. It's kinda like washing your car; you know it's gonna rain soon! So I'm blaming you in a good way! - MT
