Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 20 - READ 1st POST
Roy Focker replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Watched it and gave it a neutral review. Which as you know the highest I give this series. I was expecting to be bad but it wasn't. Okay the animation was bad, there was no mecha action but I felt they were able to pay enough attention to every plot point this time. My biggest beef was the whole Mikumo angle. I don't understand Walkure cloak and dagger activities in this episode. They work for the good guys. Arad and that big Zentradi Captain that's in charge and seems pretty chill. Then why does Walkure have to sneak behind their backs? -

I wasn't a very big fan of Frontier either. I felt the character designs were pandering to anime fans. They covered just about every fetish for an endless supply of hentai material. Frontier also had a very modern weird anime plot and characters who acted as stereotypes. All things the Delta has as well. The redeeming feature of the Frontier is that it had plenty of mecha action, great music and likeable characters. I have a feeling that when Delta ends it will either feel unfinished or a conclusion the felt rushed. Macross Delta an epic space drama where characters chit-chat while doing mundane real world activities. Sometimes they almost do something exciting or but then the closing song starts. -
I enjoyed the 1/48 scale. I thought about getting rid of my 1/48s but I changed my mind (see topic I made for 1/48 in the Toy section a few months). The 1/48 VF-1 is a good toy. You couldn't revisit that scale today without it costing an arm & a leg. A VF-1 at 1/100 is on the small side. You do lose some details and options at this scale but it is a scale that could allow us access to toys beyond the VF-1.

I haven't watched this episode yet. As of this post only 28 members have voted and the majority 39% have a negative opinion of this episode. Usually most of the early voting is positive. After viewing the pilot episode I thought the biggest problem would be super-powered singing idols. Instead the series greatest weakness are a lack of mecha action, inability to juggle multiple characters and multiple story lines. I doubt Delta will become a critical success. Could become a commercial success if it helps to drive doll and music sales. -

That sounds like a lot of stuff going on for a little over 20 minutes of television. -

Big deal I paid the same price for mine plus $60 more for shipping
-
I hate seeing sales after paying for a pre-order. You hope pre-ordering gets you a great price for an early hold. A pre-order is really just a guaranty that you won't have to track one down later. Sometimes they cost more after the release date and sometimes less. I just feel better when the Price increases after the release date.

Didn't Freyja also get mad and called Hayate a perv for playing with her rune?
-
In the last episode I think Roid's & Keith's runes touched tips! Is that anything like accidently touching tips in a locker room shower? Why are the runes shaped like Lucky Charms?
-
Huh? Didn't they already make that movie with him and Batman?

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 19 - READ 1st POST
Roy Focker replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm the first person to give it a negative vote. This episode started off bad when it announced with still images what happen right after the episode 18. Why couldn't they animate those events as the first half of episode 19? I guess the musical number in episode 18 was so confusing they need to use nearly all of episode 19 to explain it. Really they could have explained things and give an entire series recap in less time. The entire story time doesn't really count as animation. The animation of the present day was low quality. Yeah I kind of enjoyed the nod to earlier series and that they are finally telling us what's going on but have they ran out of money to animate this series? Even if you're someone like me who isn't all that interested in the where direction of this franchise went at least there was hope that we'd still get to some good animation. We can't even get that. -

Max had to be pushing 70. What is he doing in a VF-25? I thought he was piloting battleships. -

The Monster is a big enough star to be a solo act in the detolf. Do what I did. Put 2 detolfs side by side. With the Monster in one case facing off against the other hi-metals in your second case.

Doesn't "Misa" always win it? It would be interesting for "Minmay" to actual win it for once. Mirage right now isn't giving that much a fight. If Mirage wins I'm afraid it will be because Freyja will have to leave Hayate to fulfill her true destiny singing to space whales or something. "I love you Hayate but you can't follow me." "What will I do without you Freyja?" "Um isn't Mirage still around somewhere?" -

I wonder if the lack of variety of mecha and less use of multiple modes on screen will hurt toy sales. Delta pretty much just has 2 VF with only different paint jobs to tell them apart. -

Delta has too much stuff going on to be good. It lacks a solid focus. Is it a coming of age series about a love triangle? A series about a band? A series about rival knights of the skies? You can say it is all of them but it is impossible to do all of them justice in a twenty or so minute long episodes. TV shows traditional have a main A story and minor B story in each episode. In a single of episode of Delta they try to include several A stories in the same amount of time. Result is all of them look like the B story. Delta needed to focus on less characters or expanded each episode's running time. I think there's a really good story here. It's the backstory from the past they hint about and slowly reveal. The story behind the cause of the current conflict sounds more interesting than the kitchen sink they gave us. -

I don't care if battroid is unsuitable or whatever. Transforming fighting robots are cool to watch.
