Transformers Super Thread 5

I was hoping it would be dark and with more comic book-ish tones like what happened with the teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon. Just g1 updated for today. Proportions are all deformed in this.. I wish they made the cartoon for a general audience. (something that both kids and adults of g1 could enjoy) -

I don;t like the idea of a humanoid battleship. Hopefully they create a good reason for why the military would use such a thing later. The best excuse is that the deadalus manuever combined with the pinpoint barrier allows it to ram the carrier into a ship so that it can blow one up from the inside out using reaction missiles for times where there is not enough power left for another shot of the main gun or if the enemy has somehow folded before the shot reaches. Having a backup method to kill something might work but that is still a bit weak to justify having it. But considering that it is such an unpredictable move (not even exedol would expect when first seen - remember the pin point barrier was found by accident) it could be useful when outnumbered and you only want to kill the leader. (zentradi are mindless children without others to order them around) Another reason might be that it is just more manueverable in that mode for defending a zone. You have the feet pointing towards the floor, (like how the gerwalk adds VTOL to the valk) the thrusters at the back and front, and the ability to punch for suicide attackers who just don't care anymore about losing a ship to get to you. When outnumbered, the possibility for close combat increases as your attention is now divided and there is lag between attacks which give opportunities for the enemy to surround you. I think it would be easier to steer in robot mode for some reason. You'd be able to retreat while facing them so you could buy time for another shot of the gun as it recharges. -
Valkyries are naturally designed to be skinny things though. They might have to fool around with the proportions of the valks and make them chunky for them to be like that. I worry what the vf-11 will be like if it gets made. Hopefully strong enough and stiff enough in joints to be able to wear the armor...

Gamespot have done up another xbox360 vs ps3 graphic comparison: http://au.gamespot.com/features/6171831/index.html Interestingly the multiplatform games look near identical but textures, lighting and lack of jaggies in most of the 360 games seems to just give it the edge as well as better models in the crows in some of the sports titles. (ps3 crowds have pointy heads!) This guy makes a very interesting comment which I agree with: You can't say "oh but this is a first gen game competing with a later gen xbox game so you got to expect graphics being poorer" and then show us an improved version of oblivion for ps3 and say: "look at how much superior the ps3 is, to be able to handle oblivion and add ore details! Xbox360's deficiency shows through" despite oblivion having 1 year of time to get those improvements through tweaks for th ps3 release. You can't have it both ways. -
If they get all sold up and demand is high what are the chances we see a re-release? My plan was for this to happen: 1.graham hints at some some future reactive armor release 2.yamto releases the armor as a upgrade kit 3.later comes in a pack: reactive armor + vf0s (like buying hikaru vf-1j with gbp together) 4. me buying the fixed 0S and reactive armor in one go and save on shipping (or buying seperately but at the same time to combine shipping) so when is yamato going to make us a reactive armour for roy's battroid to stand in?

Well, I can only talk about my own experiences. I never stated the comment as fact which is why I presented it as a question. I don't have japanese friends to verify, but I have heard a bit about the system of "giving face" somewhere. I'm prepared to be corrected for those more knowledge than myself on the topic. I'm sure there are truly polite ones as well as rude ones, but yeah the "generally" term usually means what your own experience was. In some countries you are rude just for not taking shoes off before going into a person's house where it's not a requirement in others. So what might some see as being rude or being well-behaved or polite, could be interpreted as something else. edit: here we go: http://resources.alibaba.com/article/2492/...ese_culture.htm So when someone says "don't give him/her face", what they mean is don't respect that person, they are not worth your respect etc. I was curious because I thought it was a slang sex term like a blowjob or something lol. -

I think that's a generic asian thing though isn't it? It explains how in lots of anime the character will do the exagerrated donald duck expression of "pointing their nose up at the sky, head turned away from character, with their back straight and proud, and eyes closed to show that you are shameful and that they are above you" ...because they can't give face to you. "hmmph!" It's a form of status. "I'm higher than you so I can't be seen shamefully hanging around people of your kind" sort of thing. I always thought that was just the creator putting cartoon expression on the character but I've seen asian people do it. hehe -
The graphic detail and draw distance looks good. I was always scared to play flight sims on pc(too much realism for my taste) but ace combat is the kind of series that I can easily get into due to being arcadey. The original game actually was an arcade game come to think of it.. I really wish there was a company that made a fictional space sim in the arcadey style of the acecombat games though.. (it would be freeform, not onrails) Colony wars on ps1 was pretty cool. But something for the next gen consoles that takes advantage of the increased power. (only dumb it down just enough to be attractive to the console gamer but without making the "physics" too fake like those rogue squadron games. What PGR is to race "sims", I want a space sim equivalent, balancing just enough realism and convincing controls with fun so as not to scare the *arcade crowd) *The kind of people who go for those games where there is a emphasis on speed and fast reactions more than time spent training: after burner, space harrier, panzer dragoon, starfox etc..

Man, I hope lion-o swears in the thundercats cg movie as a homage to this: "The actor who played Lion-O said in an interview that these bloopers are real and not something someone edited" lol authentic swearing. Not fanmade like the transformer swearing videos. Perhaps on the dvd version the actors can include bloopers for the movie like the above vid? Too risky. Maybe its like the videogame industry where all the guys with ideas get ignored by publishers? They want something already that is a "proven formula" for milking you of your money vs uncertainty and danger. Chicken$hits.. -

They should make the female terminators these butch female lesbian bikers with a bit of facial hair and see what reaction they get..Instead of making them slim and sexy just have it be a male-ish bodybuilder-ish female with ripling muscles who randomly beats up anyone that gets near john. Like you could have john in class and some kid wants to pick a fight and the butch female terminator breaks through a wall and grabs the kid by the balls and almost kills the poor guy. The teacher would be too scared to fail john conner and all the kids in school would want to find out wtf is up with this biker following him around everywhere. The explanation is that since terminators can now come in younger models that are his age, you can never be too certain if there is a disguised teenage terminator hiding amongst all the school kids posing as some columbine massacreist wannabe. No guns allowed at school, so the next best thing is have the biker get a job as one of the staff at the school. Sounds like something out of a japanese anime. -

The low visibility vf-1 should have appeared and then it could be upgraded to canon status. The gummy pilot in the flightsuit on the yamato 1/48 toy could then be roy. That would have been good. You would see the evolution from f14 (at the start of the ova) to vf0 (with transformation) to vf-1. ("we decided to make it look old and boxy" ) The inclusion of a cat will be interesting. I wonder if it will get spacesick and vomit in the cockpit while the pilot is flying around doing fancy acrobatics to avoid micromissile swarms. You've seen some of the crazy things the qrau does.. -

So disappointed: I think with the introduction of bendy skin in macross plus that SK would put a face on the battroid that had a mouth that moved like characters in the transformers with articulated lips and moving chin. hehe Maybe they could have designed a crazy character who is a fan of basara who modifies the battroid to look like that as an in-joke? He would be like kakizaki from SDF:m and then get killed somewhere in the series while singing firebomber songs and trying to pull off some crazy stunt to show off. -

If they make it like x-files and have the governments and police involved as well it could be interesting with lots of twists. Something like prison break (keeping low profile to avoid putting too much info in the databases for the terminators to dig up on you) combined with xfiles (the terminators become increasingly more sophisticated and futuristic, adding layers of mystery) and terminator 1. (car chases and the paranoia that the terminator is hiding amongst normal people or disguised as a cop, using the cops to gain advantage by impersonating them) If it goes t2 with more morphing and stuff, it could make the fighting more interesting. Instead of just shooting it would "try to get close and almost kill but just miss the target" which is what goes on a lot in no.2. (elevator scene for example) Suspense, mystery, action, and a bit of drama. (like a reality tv version of what it would be like to live without any permanent safety) Maybe show how john gradually gets tougher and more mean. But also fights against senseless killing. (not actually being comfortable trying to act like some soldier that his mother wants to raise him up as when he is just a kid) Prison break with terminators! If the series goes on long enough it gradually gets darker and leads to all out war with machines once the military finds the remains of the robots to use in their defenses. (ie post apoc world like appleseed comics?) People are warned on national tv about the existence of them and this leads to global panic, causing riots and suspicion which only makes the human side worse. Who do you trust? Maybe the people in your government are terminators using diguises and plotting all these events in current day? (ha I'll avoid jokes of the governator rising in power to lead robot army) What happens when people learn that jon conner has a robot friend? You can't fight robots if the people don't trust you and you are using one to be a bodyguard. That is just hypocrisy. -

We can all agree that it's not the swearing, violence, titties etc that makes them good but that changes are what people are scared of. I believe if the original had no swearing, no one liners with attitude, then it wouldn't be a problem. But as time went on people accepted the idea that the main character "doesn't really care" and is in a situation that warrants the swearing and its changing stuff that they are scared of. When arnie looks at the ugly alien predator and says "You are one ugly motherfuqer" that is sort of funny cuz it is so true and you only get to see it after the mask is off. "You are ugly" has no power to it. But saying motherfuqer makes it more powerful. It's like "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU b!tch!" in aliens to the alien queen or "THIS..IS..SPARTA!" because now that they've heard it, it is part of the character. It's not the swearing so much as the line itself getting changed or toned down. If they just swore and it wasn't warranted for the crucual moment in the movie where that is what the people are thinking, maybe it wouldn't matter as much. But it's like my transformers example: hearing spike say sh!t is so fitting. -

Ok then I can accept it. It's just that in the past, many videogames had lots of censorship in them and things were butchered as a result of pleasing censors. Something as insignificant as red blood having to be green just because those little red pixels might offend people or the removing of nude statues in the background of some games. Hello! These are people fighting each other and you would expect some bruising, bleeding, cuts from all the bashing up of each other. I just don't want to go back to the days when things got ridiculous and games/movies had to be butchered to be considered for release or just outright banned for tiny stuff. There are legit reasons for violence in some situations and some are just there for commercial reasons. I guess I am more sympathetic to the creators who feel they have legit reasons for putting it in there, than ones who consciously only add titties, swearing, and senseless killing because they think its some kind of cool trend that allows them to get rich just because people out there want it. Movies can still be entertaining without it, totally agree. But I've seen the opposite extreme of too much handholding too. If you don't like gore, and get offended by it, as a parent you shouldn't be taking kids to see those types of movie imo. Interesting question. Due to being a sequel maybe they are scared the character has to change and maybe that goes against how they think he would normally react to things and they just don't like change? Maybe it is as simple as people who watch violent movies have some expectation of what they want to see. eg: The violent scenes in rambo might be more of what they want: something gritty and heavy on gore due to what they've read in the novels so it is more true to the author of the book or something? I think sequels to things bring in all kinds of expectations that non-sequels can avoid. Predator for example started out as pretty violent, so they want that same fear of death of the main character or to be scared again. *shrugs shoulders* In terminator you saw arnies butt, and the nudity just carried over in later movies. By the third movie we didn't have any objection to seeing a naked chic's butt since we expect that from the first movie. I argue that maybe having the stuff there although not adding anything to the quality of the movie, maybe becomes the reason some people will see it. (like how chics might go see an action movie to perv at the handsome male lead, not for the fighting or story) Similarly seeing some titties might be what makes you go and see a kid's comic movie: if transformers had good looking women who were going to appear naked and you knew it, and a friend told you about it, it might tip the balance in favour of you seeing it. (I know that sounds shallow, but no more than how some girls might only be in it for romance scenes which doesn't really fit into the story at all or is handled artificially and feels tacked on.) I think a good example is how some parents may not go see a children's movie by themselves, (only because they are bringing thier kids to see it) but with good writing, they can make movies that appeal to both. Have adult humor and kids humor in one. So that both want to see it. Even though it gets pg and started out as pg, if the sequel lacks some of the adult humor maybe they won't want to see it anymore because they sense that 'change' I talk about? That people just don't like changes due to expectations from the first movies. (you only have star wars original trilogy to see this: annoying talking animal characters pissed off the adult star wars fan. This wasn't there in the original and only included I think for the kids to laugh. It was an addition or change that is hard for people to accept) -

Not so much more enjoyable, just that I would prefer them to stay true to what the original creator had intended. I actually don't watch horror that much, but it is something that for me appeals to a small audience who pays money to see it. Taking some of the scenes out feels like having parts of the story altered and you feel like you missed out on something. Doesn't mean I won't watch it, in edited form, just that I like that it was aimed to please the fan of that type of show who are not offended that much by it. (everytime I boot up my robocop dvd I always choose the unedited one) To use a macross example: It's like how in robotech you guys mention how hikaru and roy are totally different in their personality from their robotech versions due to how they censored the characters or removed some tiny scenes. Roy is much more clean and no sign of alcohol abuse and acting like a playboy in robotech. There is just more depth in a real character with those flaws in macross. He is not a perfect clean soldier with upstanding morals. He's human like us. He can have a dirty unshaven face, long hair, and a drinking problem and maybe act irresponsibly because that's how he was designed. Why censor it? You only take away from what was there? Another example in Macross: DYRL milia seems all the more like a ruthless fighting machine when she is shown having no emotion and casually killing those soldiers with contempt for their weakness and angry at them being so inferior. The violent death makes you scared for anyone who has to encounter her on the battlefield because she won't go easy on you. The violence can make the threat or danger seem more realistic (even if overdone) because it has that psychological effect on the person. Like "War is not clean like in a videogame, it is dirty and ugly and people can die brutally and messily". Sometimes the violence is there for a good reason and the creator puts a lot of time into it to get the message across and has no intention to abuse it. It's just that it was naturally there in the story to begin with so it takes more work and more effort on their part to re-edit to please the censor. Robotech (which is often bashed for having altered the originals) wouldn't even seem all that kiddy if it weren't for having to tone it down for the ones that are sensitive and easily offended. It reminds me of GTA hot coffee controversy. You can't have any hint of sex within a game because sex is evil. The system needs to change. Creators need to take a stand and say: "this is important to me and whatever fan I am aiming for. Yes I may not make as much money and people will get offeneded, but this is how I express the idea and having what seems like insignificant content to one person may be important to another person." I'm one of those that just prefers the creator to have the power more than 'the suits' as you get a less filtered version and a story that is more true to their original intent. So when spike says "5hit!" in the animated transformers movie you feel like you have the truer version, however little it enhances the movie. Maybe it is offensive, but the character feels they are going to die, and being polite is the last thing on their mind. I personally think it would have been more like "oh fuq!" but then it wouldn't have been a kids movie. -

Sometimes violent deaths add impact to the story. When someone gets shot several times you feel the shock of the moment as if it were real and then ...snap... you laugh uneasily because you know its just a movie. I miss all those things in violent movies. Maybe that shock was put there on purpose (south park movie with the number of times they swear?) as a way to make as much use of the rating as possible? Like the movie wants to say something about the society you live in or criticise the current system of how you do things, and make fun of it? (the only people getting the joke being the people who are against that system) ED209 in robocop is much more funny when you have him overdo the shooting of the guy with the gun in the demonstration. This is funny because of that overdone violence. The predator is all the more menacing when you see what it did to the bodies of the soldiers and make you feel scared. (skinning them, and you get to see the bodies hanging from the tree) The aliens bursting out of people's chest violently and angrily shows the fierce nature of these beasts. It shouldn't be a pretty sight, it should give you nightmare. Sanitising horror movies does make them less scary. I do want the predator to rip the spinal cord out of the human and take the skull as a trophy literally. That's why it is scary. Arnold won't survive, just because he has a gun in his hand or using brute strength now that he is up against something way out of his league. He is more an underdog now and the predator is the hunter now that we've seen what it is capable of from that scene. So if they make horror, sci fi horror, or action movies with high kill count: please make them for the fans of that genre as opposed to the mainstream. It's not that the violence makes the movie better, or that you can't make good movies without it, so much as the already-violent genre means the violence is naturally a part of the movie itself (take saving private ryan as an example: the horror of war is still horror, people won't just die they might have to suffer before they die) and loses something when it is censored or sanitised. Sure there are movies where the only reason they might make money is for people who just want to see the violence, titties and swearing and that's it, (sickos) but most of the good ones use them in a good way. The violence might just be saying something about the character, the titties might be part of sex scene which is healthy and natural, or the swearing is something you would expect given the moment. People don't simply assume these things automatically make the movie good by themselves; that would be an insult to their intelligence. They just don't want everything to be sanitised to the point that it's no longer part of the genre it originally came from. -

Only a matter of time till we get Robotech the live action movie. VF-1 cg dogfights that transform into battroid and gerwalk, fighting cg zentradi battlepods. It will be a trilogy: first movie is macross, second is southern cross, and then new gen. Maybe then it might attract better toy companies to then be able to make better masterpiece alphas?.. Masterpiece alpha and legioss that don't break... I don't care whose childhood is raped..masterpiece cyclones and alphas which are very detailed and unbreakable maybe this century. -

Ok but let me get this straight: will toynami release a second release alpha with aoshima-type fixes? That might be what tips the existing customer towards forking out more money: if they know they will be getting a better quality alpha, it might be worth making these aoshima ones be available under the robotech name. Most people who own the alpha know the price is so low as to never go back up in value anyway. The reason they limited the number is due to knowing only a fan would buy them, not because they want to make the fan feel special by making them limited edition or anything . Existing owners of alphas would balance being pissed at the fact they own a inferior alpha (and tricked that it was LE) vs the chance to get a better one. (be honest the majority of you out there would rather trade quality for something that is 'rare'. Since it's the very demand for an item by the masses that boosts its value on ebay more than anything) All they have to do is call the newer release a new version. (more accessories) A bit like how you have yf21 and 'yf21 w fast pack' from yamato.. The extra missiles are the thing that makes it different from the original alphas.
