  1. They should have a toy or model of the vf-25 appear in the actual show as a model kits sold at the shop. Have a otaku complain the toys don't look like the real vf-25. And yeah I want bandai to take their time. No rushing.
  2. Alto's reason for being in the series is so he can see through the acting of all the shallow characters in the show. He probably already knows Brera is just doing his job as body guard for the spoilt ranka brat. I don't think he takes it personally. Yeah he is pissed that he is better at protecting duty, but its more the idea he has limits which the other guy doesn't, than due to jealousy that ranka is impressed by his showing off. I think he sees ranka as like a little sister. But maybe I haven't been paying much attention..
  3. Well so far I am happy with the mech porn side. But story and character wise...meh. I find that robot anime has a lot of cliche of its own too. Many people will complain "if they don't follow the forumla it's not macross like we all know" while on he other side of the table you have people saying each show has to add something original and new. Personally I'm kinda in the middle where I want the show to have great music, and interesting characters, but not be too drawn out or stretched just to please fans of the characters. You can have similar types of characters for fans of the old ones, but give them something to do and let them be relevent to the overall events that go on within the story. Like if SDF:M had a sequel and told us of what happened on megaroad, and all they ever did was show hikaru and minmay and misa going through the triangle again but as older people, like an episode of the bold and the beautiful, I think I would yawn because it's just more of the same. Aged max and miria worked because they were popular, but you didn't really see max get into a valk until long in the show. He had nothing to do. The introduction of bugs makes space more scary again. It's back to being a survival story like SDF:M. The rogue zentradi aren't a threat as much anymore.
  4. Yeah but I started late and watched all these in a marathon. So details might have passed me by. The reason for that is I wanted the slower subbers to get a head start so I could watch all this in one big session instead of tiny amounts at once. I've just looked at each of the episode discussions and how many pages long they all are. Wow. Lots of acitivty in the movie/tv series forums. I can't catch up to it all. I have been hanging on the toy forums mainly. But I have read all of the tech discussion threads. I wonder if Brera's skills are better than a ghost x9 or whatever. Would be interesting if SMS had a highly intellgent ghost to counter brera with. (or a team of them which acted like bit attacks from multiple angles) If future macross shows become about whose virtual pet is tougher, then fights would end up being pretty pointless since he doesn't even have to be in the damn cockpit and can't die. That means all fights with valkyries are going to lack any kind of tension like in previous shows where people would die fighting. So I think they need to come up with an excuse for not upgrading to cyborgs or unmanned valks all over again to keep the show interesting. Otherwise it will fall under the problem that gundam had of going into super robot territory where killing someone is just killing the robot and there is no reason to care if they fail at the mission because it's not risky to them. I wonder if sheryl becomes the macross equivalent of a newtype or something and is able to tap into a thoughtwave projected out of the minds of the pilots who were PC descendants. Kinda like Sara predicting her island was going to get attacked before the actual attack came? I know she has barely any skills but let's say if they had the series go on longer, and developed her into a tougher person and actually used her piloting skill? Then she could be closer to alto and all the sheryl fans would have an excuse for why sheryl is a better match for alto because they both decide to fly planes. Another thing is if ranka can read the energy coming from the dying aliens, then maybe she can also sense their thoughts? Perhaps the experiments involved trying to translate the bug language and they were using ranka and sheryl to reverse engineer their tech to create cyber-newtype, and that's what brera is. He could be the bug king himself but tortured into following orders. It certainly show him reluctant to follow in the show. If brera is the brother and can communicate with these insects he can also possibly read their moves and avoid their attacks better? The only thing is, I think he is a manchurian candidate (does not have any personality, or remember who he is, yet just programmed to assassinate or protect targets they order him to kill) and he isn't able to turn the aliens against the cyborg lady so he must play along because of either torture or he was promised to be given his memories back if he does their bidding. But I think he'll end up doing a char, and turn against them at some point when they don't expect it. NUN is like Zeon when the Zabi family took control. Brera is char without the mask.
  5. Troll = someone who knows the argument being put forth is flawed and is wrong but keep repeating the argument to see if they can get a reaction that wastes the responders time. They don't believe what they type just want to have fun seeing people's reactions to see how many people they can annoy. Feeding them makes them feel good because they can cause chaos and make the responder angry. Of course those calling you a troll may mislabel you. That's the difference between two people having a discussion, and people who think you are not being serious and wasting their time but who don't know you are being serious. They are just misusing the term. If they call you a troll and you know you aren't trolling they might just be using the term to turn everyone against you because they don't want to debate/argue with you. The best way to defeat troll. Make them bored by ignoring them. Since they ended up wasting their own free time they will eventually go someplace else if they can't bait people (or a whole community of people if we are talking large scale operation) into an angry response which they like because it gives them so much attention.
  6. Space monsters I think are contaminated with something which is why all the checking for blood to see that people don't get sick by the space monster virus and possibly give it to others. Remember when cyborg lady swtiched blood samples on sheryl so that the doctors wouldn't be able to analyse her? Sheryle must be a host to the virus which is going to kill her. Remember that monster that appeared in one episode which tried to attack ranka but brera beat the crap out of? I bet it was carrying a disease of some sort that made it go angry. (watch the movie "28 days later") I speculate there is a zombie virus (resident evil T virus or a "mad cow" 28 days later-type virus) which has something to do with making the bugs act agressive. Cyborg lady/AI ghost isn't affected since she is a robot with a fake body. Cyborg and moe haircut guy, want to use the bugs as bioweapons. But perhaps there are non-agressive normal bugs kind of like there are male and female zentradi warring against each other? The zombie ones are mind controlled and have been supplied with human technology and trained to kill. In the episode when we first see brera, Luca scans the ship and sees something strange. How do you test these weapons if there isn't anything to test them on? How do they know if the counter weapon works if they can't have a singer to cause them to stop attacking and witness the effect the music has on the bugs? Well that's why all this weapons testing on frontier. The next generation of soldier are the zombie bugs. Ranka and sheryl may be their insurance that if the bugs turn against the humans doing testing, that they can use them to turn off the agression like a switch. Now that they've seen ranka they can get rid of sheryl so that why they are keeping ranka alive and sending brera to watch over her. I think the mind control idea is carried over from the hypnotising that was seen in macross plus. All those people with cyborg implants possibly hacked into by the rogue AI? Mind control was also used by the PD in macross 7. And people have speculated that if the vajra can't think, who is guiding them to attack and how come these monsters have all kinds of intelligent war tactics? It couldn't have been ranka since in the first episode she isn't aware of them and they are about to attack her before alto intervenes. Zombie type vajras infected with T Virus like the disease from resident evil. Singing breaks the mind control.
  7. Yeah but I kinda like the idea of a human vs human battle in macross. This is something I've wanted to see in the series so that we could have rivalry between human factions again. (like anti un vs UN) Otherwise there would be no story. heh now there is an excuse for valk vs valk fights. The bugs are probably undergoing a war on their own home planet to fight mad-cow-diesease-infected zombie bugs who were genetically modified to spread diseases by the crazy cyborgs. The uninfected bugs want to resist contamination so they developed a strong immune system which has gotten out of control and made their species adapt to hostile aliens messing with them which explains the quick evolution. PC made them too strong. Cyborgs must hate the bugs so they are using us to find their weaknesses and enslave them, so they can use them as bioweapons against all organic life. Poor little buggers.
  8. Hell, maybe Grace has an interesting backstory too? Let the show reveal more on that. Even Nora from macross zero had her thing: the scar on her body sort of like the Joker's scar on his face in The Dark Knight. Maybe she was into rough sex and one of the soldiers took it too far and now she joins the anti-un to get revenge for the scar they made which destroyed her modeling/porn career? Similarly don't you want to know why Grace is doing these mean things? Kinda like an evil Max Headroom. Yeah ok but if you are going to point out why you hate someone, then ignore the flaws of the other characters, all you (not you in particular just the group that picks on one character without looking at others as well) are doing is just picking which parts you like to talk about and ignoring others. Even if the topic is about ranka, the point of having her be annoying and unlikble serves a purpose in the story. Just as hating dyson's behaviour serves a point in macross plus. My question to the critics: So young minmay in SDF:M can act selfish to Kaifun her manager who she relies on to look after her. But Ranka can't be selfish and irresponsible like all teens? My answer to them is this: Ranka = young minmay from SDF:M Sheryl = mature grown up minmay from DYRL Whatever reasons ranka is seen as bad can also be levelled at previous idols in the other shows. Although I'm not a big fan of ranka or sheryl myself, I just think the critics haven't been fair given we are 21 episodes in whereas in SDF:M minmay had 36 episodes to mature and listen to Kaifun and act like a grown woman. The whole point I want to make is that you can't force someone to do something if they don't have their own reasons for doing it with conviction. So you need time for them to grow. Thus, Ranka is going through her period of "why should I sing, what grand purpose will it serve, and even if I am helping now, what about the long term?" Just like Basara having to appear on time to please his fellow band members is a secondary priority to finding out if his music can affect the protodevlin. Ultimately what happened was he could merge the singing from the concert (being responsible to his fans who came to see him) with the singing towards the PD (culture shock tactics) to kill two birds with one stone. But come on guys: you had 21 episodes on just the love triangle thing, now give us time to develop the villains, and aliens and mysterious guys. Ranka leaving gives us an opportunity to see what these bugs are about and what the thing on her stomach is about. Possibly everything they feel is transmitted through fold crystals and those feelings and emotions are received by her and this is why she instinctively knows the bugs can't be evil despite having killed people. Just like you can't say that Char is evil in gundam just because he fights on the bad guys side. It's not as simple as that. Humans fought wars amongst themselves long before aliens ever arrived. But this is ignored because people are used to seeing the aliens as evil or good. Can't they be just like us humans but more powerful and have lived around longer so they see us as primitive and savage and so they justify killing us because they have a greater responsibility to stop the more barbaric races from expanding? (sort of like how the Bird Mecha thought it was doing the galaxy a favor by almost destroying earth) What matters isn't who is right or wrong, who fired the first shot, or why you even fight, ..but whether you can prevent the war from escalating which only causes races to make themselves extinct as they get stronger and more defensive. (ie republic transforming itself into the evil empire seen in star wars) The monsters look scary, but so did the zentradi. That fear makes people act defensively. It could be that the monsters like peace and harmony but the Cyborg AI people are using them to kill humans. I think the guys who benefit by escalating the war are those who seek to profit from the deaths in some way. (just as the anti-un and UN were taking advantage of the mayan islanders to have control over the ancient technology - who cares about them? "Just give us access to that cool bird mech toy you have hidden around here!") It took ages for us to see the ancient protoculture ruins in macross 7 to get the backstory of who the zentradi are. Because of the slow pace of the show. I just want macross F to be a bit faster-paced. So the origin story thing gets more time. Mylene being the bossy character of the show, and as annoying as she can be, actually served a purpose in the "grand scheme of things" because her mixed zentradi blood was proof that humans could solve the problem of wars up to that point, to be worthy enough by the PC reckoning of having free access to ancient records. So similarly with MacF we are going through that part of the story now with the bug mystery. What is their purpose for existence? What happened in Ranka past? Who were the mysterious messengers talking to ranka when she was trapped in that green bubble thingy? etc etc It's the Indiana Jones part of the story. We know that she is linked to the bug. We know the bugs respond to her songs. Now tell us something new.
  9. She thought she was protecting humans by singing. Not worried about her personal safety. Willing to sacrifice herself if need be to protect the human hive. ....But... what about the innocent bugs like the pet she has who don't want to die because some humans want to extract them for crystals? Don't aliens have any say in the matter? Dude think beyond just one character. Look at the bigger picture. It's not about who gets to date who, but on their purpose to sing. Just like how basara doesn't give a crap about responsibility to fanbase but on whether his music can make a lasting difference. Basara was annoying for taking 52 episodes to get his task done which admitedly saved the whole galaxy from space demons. Ranka is going through her phase of "WTF is the purpose of all this?? "I'm sick of just singing for fans and being used as a tool by the military. I want to protect the eggs. I have bigger plans!" Look at the big picuture. Who cares why fanboys think Ranka is just a little bit colder than Sheryl or more immature and so doesn't deserve to be happy? All Ranka was doing was making her dream of singing come true just as alto is getting his dream of being a pilot of a valkyrie because his mother liked 'real skies'. Now that they've got it, maybe we can see more on the bug aliens now? And to me if ranka is an alien herself with the glowing thing in the stomach, I'd like the story to move on to other things now ok? Not just one character. This is why so many people didn't like macross 7 here due to the focus only on basara. They had heaps of time to develop other characters too. If macross 7 moved along at a faster pace people wouldn't have complained so much. As we get closer to the end, all the mystery will unravel. I like the pace of the series so far and I hope they don't just focus only on the relationships. One of the reasons SDF:M is liked is partly because there is a lot of characters in it. DYRL was nice to watch but it only focused on the love triangle due to time constraints and so the enemies weren't realistic - they were converted to good guys instantaneously rather than gradually. Macross 7, went in the other extreme: took way too many episodes to get its message across. Macross frontier I think has just the right balance. We get the mech porn, the characters develop quicker, but unlike SDF:macross there isn't a huge slow period in the show to stretch it to 36 eps, or the repetition of the same thing happening over and over again like in macross 7. BTW Basara didn't even choose who he wanted in the end of that. Maybe the same thing will happen with Alto? Sheryl imo is just the mature version of minmay from DYRL while Ranka is the younger minmay from SDF:M. Maybe Alto finds some other girl (or boy) and those two singers decide they have an important duty and serve a higher cause? (that would be Mac F unique twist "Sorry Gals, I'm Bisexual and haven't told anyone about it!")
  10. So wow, you're saying that macross frontier characters should be held to a higher standard than ones from previous shows? Errrr why? Do yo realise everything bad about ranka is no more bad than other characters in every other macross show? Every show has it's haters. I'm just pointing out all the same flaws in the other macross characters. List of irresponsible people: -Dyson deliberately acting like a jerk in macross plus just so he doesn't get promoted and have to go behind a desk and lose his ability to fly planes. -Sara breaking her dad's rule and the dad predicting the end for their tribal secrets may be coming to a close because the whites have come to take blood samples as foretold. Sara allowed hers to be taken. -Hikaru disobeying orders from misa. -Max and Miriya coming up with the idea to not shoot the regult in a way that kills the alien pilots (max is doing her a favour but also endangering people since now he has to concentrate on only disabling the mecha not just surviving) -Roy treating claudia special and then partying with other women. Gee don't see so many roy haters out there. What if you were claudia? Doesn't she have feelings? -Global agreeing to put a civilian in danger by using the silly minmay attack which if it were real life would seem ridiculous and crazy, er just like ranka deciding she MUST do this. Even though she isn't a soldier and isn't part of the military having no business being in a warzone instead of in a shelter somewhere. Can you imagine what her family must be thinking? What ifthe plan fails? So no don't try to make this out as me saying minmay is a horrible person when I never said that. They all have character flaws. Your hate of the characters is intentional and probably designed that way on purpose. Hating ranka is no different from you wanting to hate dyson for being reckless, or hikaru for disoberying orders from misa. The characters are bold. But they are not perfect. (this is why I hated Stick in Mospeada because he is very 2 dimensional. But it was done that way on purpose since he was not born on earth and doesn't understand that the inbit aren't the only ones guilty of war, humans kill other humans too. Not all problems were there because of the inbit but because there are also some humans acting like idiots against other humans. (like towns where you have corrupted people who help the bad guys instead of protecting the people - that wolf guy that was Stick's war hero. ....but.... your hate of a character is part of the overall story: if Stick knew his war hero was helping the inbit maybe he would not have acted the same way he did earlier in the show assuming that there aren't also people on his own race's side letting it happen and being irresponsible. So I'm just saying give a ranka a break since to me she must know that "Oh poo I'm the queen of these things" and wants to protect the harmless ones on her side as much as humans/zentradi. No different to Miriya feeling sorry for all the zentradi soldiers getting pwned by max and requesting that max please aim for an area on the mecha that doesn't result in killing them. Miriya is no more a criminal than a humanitarian. If you fanboys are going to hate a character for one sin, then don't forget that some of the fan faves from past shows are also guilty of the same thing too. Hey wait a minute...It took 36 episodes and the death of kakizaki, death of Roy, and Kaifun slapping her around, as well as misa lecturing her on ep36 about why her singing is so crucual...for her to "wake up to her selfish ways" and "that's ok since minmay isn't annoying to me". But when ranka realises she must protect her own kind AND the dying humans on frontier (only 21 epsisodes in) it's bad? The cyborg chic grace already mentions the bugs won't hurt the little queen right? She may know something she hasn't told everyone else which is revealed later. Sort of like how we hate Dyson's guts in macross plus because guld mentions that dyson is dangerous and we are hinted that '7 years ago' Dyson must have done something so horrible that it must have traumatised Myung to a point that now Guld feels overprotective over her enough to want to kill dyson. But then right at the last minute we learn it was guld who was the dangerous one who 'lost control'. The audience was tricked into believing that the "reckless cowboy and showoff and roughneck" is the one who is dangerous and not the calm guy. Now what I'm saying is since Ranka holds so much mystery you got to be ready for some surprise: Unlike minmay she is possibly more deep than we have been led to believe and tied in with a backstory for the bug and how the bug were being manipulated or something to soften them. Maybe if she confronts the leaders of the bugs she can convince them that all the attacks on the hives were by bad guys on the human's side and not ALL humans set out to attack hives to collect the little fold crystals, just a few greedy guys. I know it's hard to sympathise with a bunch of bugs (especially because they are like monsters or something) but they have to protect their homes too right? How do we know they weren't being attacked first? We don't! At least with the zentradi we are shown that the SDF-1 fire the first shot, so the war began due to the ship's own "booby trap" defense prgrammed into it which was out of human control. Just let ranka have a few more episodes before judging is what I'm saying. It's easy to hate dyson more than guld for acting so cold towards myung. But appearances can be deceiving. In the end Guld became a hero, Dyson's recklessness became his strong point, and yang's obsession with the idol allowed him to assist in defeating the AI because he scanned the ship for the brain. These characters: they all start out imperfect but the cirumstances for why they behave the way they do isn't 100% clear at the midway point of the story, and then you start realising it's not about perfection: they are where they need to be so that when in danger they all come together and forget their petty differences and help each other instead of fighting each other. An example is myung pretending to be so successful at the beginning, "I've moved up in the world" but then confessing she is just used to feed emotions into the AI and nothing more. A mere tool who will be dumped once they use that new illegal chip thing to substitute for her) Audience is manipulated into thinking she is the sensible one and the two boys are immature. I'm actually a supporter of no particular character. I don't know where people got the idea I give a crap about one character more than another. I'm just a fan of the show and enjoying the ride. For all I care ranka was what in fact responsible for the deaths in galaxy sort of like sara being responsible for bringing down her tribe because of allowing herself to be anaylsed and needing shin to be the only one to understand her while others hate her guts. If Alto is the only one who truly understands Ranka (just like Shin was the only one who understood Sara) then my bet is he will sympathise with her for the rest of her life more, when the memory comes back. (and be more suitable match for alto than sheryl - sheryl had a good career and fanbase like alice holiday so she is more jaded but also headstrong and would survive better imo) We all think Ranka lost her memory due to bug attack. But maybe she lost it due to bugs protecting her from human attacks because they want to abduct her and use her for experiments? Kinda like the hulk trying to be captured by the military for use under their control, but the hulk wanting to be left alone. Then she screamed and the bug destroyed the place thinking she was in grave danger? (in that situation, just like the automatic firing of the SDF-1 Main gun in SDF:M, it's nobody's fault) Her memory comes back. Then she realises she was a clone created in some lab as a way to create Bug leaders to act as controllers for the bioweapons the companies were testing. A failsafe. Or something like that. She saw some dead humans and blamed herself when a bug attacked the whole ship, just like Sara almost destroyed earth with the Bird Mech in macross zero. So please don't think I'm some ranka fanboy acting all defensive or anything. I'm more a nanase fan. I just think it's funny how people are so judgemental when the story hasn't even finished. Who cares what you feel about the character right now. Worry about that after the show ends. Like I say: look at gundam as a good example. You think Char is a bad guy (because he is fighting amuro in the beginning) but he is just using the bad guys who think they have control over him. So you end up realising he is more interesting and complex than what you first think. He is not evil despite being capable of killing innocent people for his lofty ambition of evolving humanity. (he reminds me of Magneto in the X-men. Just misguided)
  11. No she didn't. She sang because it was her dream to be a singer. Not to end war. That was global's and Exedol's idea. Geez you guys need to go back and watch SDF:M just to see how immature minmay actually was. This is why Hikaru bitch-slapped her in DYRL. My response to those quoted comments in the link: She felt sad like minmay felt sad when kaifun forced her to sing at a concert when she wasn't in the mood to sing despite fans wanting to here her and her needing to act professionally. Honestly, if you don't feel like singing, why sing? If it's not sincere, the lyrics the words are empty. Alice Holiday from macross 7 felt the same way: she lost her drive to keep doing it because it's now a duty to sing, not because she feels like doing it spontaneously and naturally. It's unprofessional, but remember that music has a magical effect in macross where if the singer's intent isn't aligned the lyrics sung, then the effect of the song isn't there. Why not just listen to a CD recording instead of going to a live concert? Ranka didn't feel up to it at the time so like minmay she acted immature like minmay did when she told kaifun: "I don't feel like it! nyah!" Minmay does the exact same thing in DYRL. Why should I sing those lyrics that the old lady gave you? Wah wah wah! Do some research into the older macross noobs. Minmay also does this. Minmay didn't give a poo about hikaru every day fighting while she was out partying and having fun with her fans. Even though the whole reason hikaru chose to join the military was to impress her so that roy wouldn't steal her attention. Kaifun also has to tell minmay about how the zentradi giants came to listen to her. How she should stop acting like a child and that she has responsbility. I don't see how you can hate ranka for being herself: young and innocent and still unsure of what choice to make. (ie go with hikaru and live a quiet life waiting for him at home, or continue being a famous star and taking repsonsibility) But the whole songstress of hope thing won't make a difference if it's just being used as a tool for slaughter. She is smart enough to see the aliens are in pain as well when they get slaughtered. Oh I forgot because you are a human, and the war is shown from the humans' point of view, you only want to see the humans pain! Ahh.... So easy to turn off your feelings like a light switch. The aliens attack because they are forced to defend a hive or whatever. Just like the human soliders fight to defend their home. Zentradi were once the bad guys too you know? Maybe Ranka sees beyond the BS (her need to sympathise with both species instead of choosing one) unlike all the other 'mature' characters? Think about it. Returning the alien back to it's home shows her compassionate side. If she said kill the dirty baby alien so I can continue my career that would have made her a real bitch. Like basara helping to kill space whales because they look dangerous and menacing on the outside to some people. SK wants to paint the aliens as like space whales or "the forest" so they are as equally important as saving humans. Who gives a crap about some screaming fanboys when you can save an animal? I mean didn't basara do this? He just comes to all the gigs late not caring about the fame or his other members of the band, but instead worrying if the songs have some bigger purpose? In the end the music brought about the change despite the lack of order in his life. This kinda reminds me of SDF:M when global is supposed to give a speech and instead leaves to deal with the matter of the alien ship detected. Again get your priorities straight. Killing aliens isn't the solution to saving yourself since they adapt to weapons. Just as Misa realised that killing the giants wasn't an option because they had millions of the ships which could easily wipe out the earth. Maybe Ranka has a plan to demonstrate she feels sorry for all the bugs that are getting killed rather than letting humans kill the bug children which she has one as a pet. Again it goes back to the idea that might doesn't equal right. Otherwise the PC would still be here and all that instead of extinct. Humans are fighting from a position of weakness imo. Bugs keep evolving and getting stronger the longer you fight against them due to how they adapt. Just like how the inbit in mospeada were slowly getting better with new upgrades. Hikaru did that to misa in SDF:M. Made a date to meet with misa, and stood her up. She waited for hours for him. Then he remembered the date at the last minute. Same thing with minmay's birthday present. "Where's my present?" Hikaru was such a cold bastard for not remember her birthday because he loves to fly around so much. Overall Summary: Come on stop being a whiney bitch and just enjoy the show. All the flaws you see in ranka are flaws of the characters in previous macross shows. If they were perfect you wouldn't have any drama. Alto himself is pretty selfish too. His dad was sick and he didn't want to visit the old guy. Roy was drunken playboy cheating on claudia. Misa has no life outside her job. Minmay is a selfish brat who didn't care about kakizaki's death. etc etc And to the guy who said he wishes they both die: well that kinda happened to the characters in SDF:M anyway after flashback when the megaroad was never heard of again. lol Maybe the three main characters will end up disappearing forever like Hikaru, misa, and minmay eventually.
  12. "It's just a 20 year old robot show..." tsk tsk so sad...
  13. It's kinda like Char Aznable in gundam. The little fold crystal in her stomach allows her to sense the pain of the people that she kills. I bet she's a good person but being alien (to the humans and zentradi) means she is mislabelled a villain. The newtypes in gundam are the 'hypersensitive' ones who can either fall to the path of the dark side (char going around dropping poo on the innocent civilians on earth because he is self-righteous), or be white knights defending people in danger through herioc deeds regardless of who is right or wrong, just protecting life. (amuro killing people for peace if it can avoid an escalation which leads to both sides destroying each other using the weapons they built and bringing the planet with it - he fights so others don't have to) Saying she is a war criminal would be like saying global was one for dealing with the peaceful group of zentradi who don't want to destroy the humans after rediscovering that we are possible descendents of their leaders the PC. Same thing in mospeada: that humanoid alien also could be thought of a evil and bad just because she is the alien. But she is just like any ordinary being. Just because the inbit are superior and more evolved than the lowly humans with better weapons (up until the shadow legios is made) doesn't mean they are bad. Just that like the humans, they need to expand and grab land to survive. Same thing in yamato: the dying race knows it is dying so it decides to survive by killing others and taking their lands to survive. In a lot of these cartoons there is always a neutral side that just wants to end the fights but they are independent of taking orders from either of the two warring nations/species/worlds. The problem is that the more powerful the neutral guys get, the more jealous the two other sides are to have that power and so you have an endless cycle of each side trying to increase their own power. There is both good and evil in all of the species. But it's the few heroes who go beyond only helping "my side/your side" that end up arse-raping the other two using peaceful methods because they are tired of fights. (ie max and miria not harming pilots in the mecha just disabling them) Ranka is probably neutral, just like all those other characters from all those other shows you've seen. But is just too much a threat because of her abilities so it's easy to label her evil if you are a victim of alien-ownage from previous episodes.
  14. The bigger the image and clearer your tv, the easier it is to notice the low polygon 3d micromissiles though. And the frames with bad drawing will look worse blown up. Cartoons are ok in average quality imo.
  15. You should have bought Prowl. He's the best in the universe line so far imo. Great articulation, (on the same level as mirage) the bot mode looks good in terms of the proportions of his body parts, (bulky but not blocky, no limbs that look too long or short like classic starscream) and he retains the g1 look. Oh can't wait to get my hands on galvatron. He has the siege tank mode from starcraft! Only thing is hasbro removing the temperature sensitive rub symbol. That reminds you of the old school transformers.
  16. I've been watching lunar. What's a remation eater? I think I'll keep my shin-sen subs. I prefer more accuracy than speed. I think it would be cool if the dvd/br had a uncut 'deculture edition' episode for every episode that has been made for tv. That'd be cool. So lets say when Michel dies he swears at the alien before it stabs him and says to it: "you're one ugly mother-fcker" before he dies. The Zentradi Loli wakes up in giant form and gets angry thinking michel was refferring to her before realising he died protecting her. Or michel says something like: "Get away from her you bitch!" before he shoots the aliens hovering around her zentradi resizing chamber. That'd be cool. Maybe show a Nanase shower scene. Then it would live up to the 'deculture' name since isn't that what the zentradi say when they are shocked or in disbelief at something they don't expect?
  17. Yeah but there were tough zentradi women in macross 7. Look at the drummer of basara's band? I bet she could beat the crap out of any of the male humans easily. Ranka probably has war-like fighting instincts and after being rejcted by Alto, she wanted to take him by force. The war-gene makes ranka stronger than a human. Guld almost raped myung macross plus. So Ranka tried something on Brera Stern. Brera can't live normally anymore since that day, and pretends to be tough by deiding to get a cybrog enhanced body; totally obsessed with the need to have 'control'. ..Just like Guld who needed to be in control of his valkyrie so he would never lose it (control) again like he did when he almost raped myung and hurt her. Cool twist eh? SK had floating rocks. Come on. My idea isn't any more crazy than that is it? Ranka lost her memory when her powers went out of control and destroyed all the inhabitants of macross galaxy. Just like that "Teresa" girl in space battleship yamato who had to live with the pain that her powers were too dangerous. All the experiments by the scientists on mayan island were possibly to try to control the birdhuman monster in the sea so they could tap into its power. She must have had some kind of power to cause all the bugs to destroy the ship which the corporations were experimenting on to see if they could use the beasts as weapons under their control. Maybe sheryl is linked to it. But since they found a stronger singer in Ranka (maybe they have anima spiritua instruments to measure the level of power coming out?) they can kill her now and destroy any evidence of the secret project they had which was to tap into the powers for use as weapons. Sheryl is now expendable. Ranka is the queen, the monsters listen to her. If the secret mad scientists on galaxy wish for monsters to kill people they just get her to sing at the concert, plant some eggs. Destroy a nest to make the ants angry. Then get the singer to sing a song to lead the angry ants to the ship (because the fold crystals provide a signal for them to home in on) and destroy it. Biological weapons like the T virus in resident evil are probably their way of fighting since if they can breed the weapons it's cheap for them. New UN spacy uses valks. New Anti-UN uses bugs because they are outnumbered and need swarms of cheap 'soldiers'. Arms researchers get rich selling newer versions of the weapons to either side. (maybe anti-un buys from the bad guys and nun buys from the good guys or they are both neutral and sell to both good guys and bad guys?) There may be good songs (ones from ranka) which stop the bugs, and bad ones (like the song of destruction in macross zero) but either way, bugs are just the tools of the humans using them. When humans use violent attacks the bug use violent attacks. If humans sing a song about love, the bugs grow faster and 'heal' from the song energy we learnt of in macross 7 and macross zero where sara sang a song to make plants grow faster. Get the idea? The ants would not have grown so fast if her healing song wasn't so powerful. So I bet ranka's singing just accelerated their growth. This is why the cybrog woman didn't expect it. she is only insterested in how the music can be used to counter the beasts (like a counter weapon) or lead them to the ship to guide them to where they need to fly to. Just as the music in macross plus was used by the AI to hypnotise people and put them under a spell. Music can be used to manipulate (hypnotise like at the sharon apple concert to put people under a spell) or break the manipulation. (minmay's song, basaras awakening of the zombies etc) But remember that the feeling behind the song is projected from the singer to the listeners. So it's not just sounds but love, hate, sorrow, etc If the person's intent is to do harm then the monster probably responds to that like that Sara BirdHuman mecha in macross zero which had all kinds of destructive weapons.
  18. I think it's like the royal family JBO. Maybe the elite don't want to breed with the lower stock so in order to make sure the bloodline is preserved....it's like normal for them. My theory is that brera was once raped by Ranka since Ranka is a zentradi and has a stronger body. Now keep in mind that scene early on when alto ranka and sheryl were all locked together inside some emergency underground room and they couldn't get out. Ranka couldn't let go of Alto and thought he was a beautiful woman. She was sexually harassing the princess alto and alto kept saying "no! no!" "Stop touching me!" But she enjoyed touching him and hoping to have sex there and then. And so Brera also fell under this control and sexual manipulation on macross galaxy but it was FAR worse. And ranka, similar to what happened with guld in macross plus, forgot about the incident because she realised she had almost raped someone. The bug weren't what caused her trauma. It was her physical strength and sexual agression. She may act all innocent now..but how do you know she isn't an agressive loli who rapes people? I think what happened then was brera knew he had no control and demanded to be given a cyborg body so it would never happen again. You see with a cyborg body he feels no pain. That is the origin of how brera become a cyborg. He wanted to forget almost being taken advantage of by a stronger girl. This is like what happened to miriya who wanted to die after being beaten down by a wimpy looking human guy with glasses. It was so humiliating to miria to be beaten by max that she couldn't live with the shame. So er yeah. Brera is like the new miriya. Even though brera was traumatised, perhaps he likes the idea of preserving Ranka's life and watching over her so that one day when her memory comes back he can show her who is the stronger one? So what do you think of my theory? Yes my posts are all semi-jokes but macross you have to admit likes to play around with the hero archetypes and swap them around a lot. (ie singing girls defeating the tough war-hardened aliens, people with glasses being the most accurate shots, big-boobed glasses girls who traditionally are supposed to be the shy quiet and reserved characters being more sexy than the confident females, the main pilots all having long hair or hair that isn't practical etc)
  19. I like the idea of something not breaking easily. I'm not a guy who likes to mod stuff pull things apart, fix it, buy replacement pieces. It's more a patience thing. Similar thing with part swapping toys: I hate the idea of things having to be left lying around. If it takes extra effort to not accidentally crack a hinge through reasonably careful handling, then that requires extra thought everytime you try to transform it, pose it, hold it. etc You shouldn't be made to feel stress just holding something or trying to transform it. (eg the konig monster locking bits being worn or broken off if you are not careful) If I have to remember what NOT to do when holding something, I just won't touch it altogether. So joints gettiny floppy, parts falling out (like the review on collection dx about the CMs Ride armor feeling like it's a hassle to pose or transform, or the banprestos limbs popping off ) paint scraping off (my 1/72 yf-21) figure falling over backwards (my 1/60 qrau) and being sent a self destructive toy made of materials that weaken over time (hips in 1/72 line of macross plus valks) are all those things that scare me. I'd rather have a toy that lasts than a good looking one that isn't easy to fix or is a hassle to think about everytime you pick it up. I never feel that way with transformers toys. For eg: TF Alternators look like model cars and don't make you afraid to scratch paint off them. They don't suffer loose limbs. They lock together well when you hold it so that a part doesn't pop-off easily just bumping your finger over it. And they have complex transformations. True some of them look like the have tree stumps for limbs, but for those that don't, they hold together well and the joints wearing out isn't a problem. I mean it's got nothing to do with playing with the toy either: you might just want something to hold its pose properly and not have the leg or arm droop down or gun fall out of the hand when trying to create a good display. The more expensive and larger the toy, I think the more important these things are. Nobody cares if it's a tiny banpresto or whatever since it's cheap, but those little flaws contribute to the *stress you get when considering the higher priced stuff. *the "OMG I can't touch it or something might get worn or crack" factor.
  20. I remember a few years ago someone complaining that no one could watch the old macross in his anime club due to it's oldish style. People will only watch new stuff. So just by having a new show at all is going to help the franchise overall. It's all up to those otakus to keep the fanbase alive.
  21. Hey yamato! Scrap the existing cheap bubble gum crisis toys and go bigger and more accurate and for perfect transformation. Just like you scrapped the 1/100 VF-0 valks. Thanks. I love BGC. Especially the old one. I think all the fans would be more excited if you made it larger, more expensive, and gave it the level of attention as the macross valks or the votoms toys. I still got to get that megazone garland that appeared in part 2. I've neglected the transforming bikes for transforming planes. ie I still haven't got any ride armor, still need to get pt garland, not interested as much in swapping parts motoslave, didn't buy transformers animated prowl etc hehe
  22. But they aren't making it, just distributing it. All they have to do is make a fancy box or change a sticker here or there right?
  23. Everytime I here about a toynami breaking it just reminds me why I eat the cost of CMs version. Really Toynami should consider bringing over CMs. Just call them mospeada toys not robotech ones so fans don't get confused. I'm tempted to buy that dark legioss.
  24. Oh and yeah I will still watch this despite the animation not being the best. Even though macross frontier didn't use 2d animation like eureka 7, I still liked it because of the smoothness of movement, details, and how objects blended well with the environment more unlike macross zero. It felt like an OVA. But you can't always get what you want. And shadow chronicles actually came out. That by itself was a miracle for HG. Will a RT tv series ever come about I wonder? Poor fans The best opportunity would be to see how the live action movie goes first (if this ever comes out - I would say use speed racer and voltron movies as a guage). Noyhauser would be pleased at this. Anyone read the novels?
