That's the new Hot Toys Diecast release. He comes with a diecast gun that goes in his thigh, a regular gun, 3 mouthes, a damaged chest and face plate, a spike fist, 2 fists, and a stand that plays quotes from the film. There is also the Battle Damaged Robocop coming out in middle of next year that looks amazing. It looks like Robo at the end of the film. -

I've been down on HT lately... but this Robocop figure is superb. I love the heft with the diecast, the rubber biceps, the moving forearms, and the articulated hands. Looks fantastic. Hope to take some real pics soon. -

They aren't horror films. Not saying that - but they use the template and expound upon it. Horror in the 80's was basically indie movie making. Like Predator for example. You don't show the killer until the end. You kill them off one at a time with a little gore. The only difference was it was in a jungle and Arnold fought back as a believable hero. Horror films are more about dealing with terror you can't control, where the Sci-fi elements offer a lot more space to impact the story. Hero's can fight back because they have big guns and space suits, though the enemy is also more fantastic. Sci-fi movies int he last few years have forgotten that it needs to be a little dark and scary to impart some gravity to the fantastic elements. I don't think it's that far of a deconstruction. Predators almost had it right... they use a Torture Porn kind of idea, but it just fell apart and had a shitty lead actor. Technoblue, I think it just comes down to budget. When you have less you work harder. Like with prometheus - they expected the graphics and sets to tell the story when there wasn't much story to tell. In the first Terminator, Cameron and Arnold would sneak out in the early morning to break a car window since it was illegal to do without certain permits. They wanted to get it made well and they did what they had to do to make it happen instead of relying on IT guys and Designers to submit computer generated mush. Maybe it's an ego thing, but less is usually a lot more.- 508 replies

Yes, its the only movie with bad computer jargon. The redeeming plot points are the struggles that Conner and Kate have to go through to become who they were fated to become. Getting hung up on tech specs and computer nerd details isn't really interesting for the larger movie going public. Movies update their description of technology as pop cultural understanding allows. Just like we change our concepts of time travel as science updates our knowledge. Most people know what an array is now, but even so T3 was a long time ago. 2003. It's been more than a decade. Think how much technology has changed. It's not meaningless, its just the nature of time travel and parallel universes. Change causes new offshoots and realities. You still have to fight for the survival of the human race, if it's in reality A, or reality B. And the machines still want to protect themselves if it's in Reality Z or reality X. It's a point that's clearly illustrated in the Robocop vs Terminator comic. Small things would be different and it's possible that a loved one might not know you the same way, but the struggle is the same. If anything it makes it more significant because it's a struggle for a future and a race you may not personally know, but have to struggle for anyway. Again, sacrifice and fate. Skynet can make anything it needs to maintain itself, if it can make terminators, HKs, ect. Repair bots would be a no-brainer. And they wouldn't be bothered by radiation. I don't think infrastructure would matter at all except factories for production and housing their communication and data/servers. They could set those up away from major human population centers.- 508 replies

I liked 3 because it re-established a similar tone to 1, even though it did have some stupid jokes in it. It was about fate being a crushing force, and you either deal with it or die. Conner is forced into that bunker and has to organize the resistance, even though he was running from it. Kate had to help her husband and watch her Father die while the world crumbled around her. Just like Reese had to go back in time to save the woman he loved and die to do it. And just like Sarah had to have her life destroyed to create John. Arnold re-established that even though he was programmed to help Conner he was still just a machine, and the ending is pretty grim, yet sets up the possibility of future stories nicely. Which 4 shat all over. Plus the terminator telling Conner to basically grow the f00k up at his mothers grave was pretty nice. I thought the action was great and the performances were solid. I say real fans because I think these themes should be clear to people who like the first movie, and I saw 3 as an attempt to reestablish that. I'm not sure why people hate it with such minor flaws. Also, in terms of science fiction, the Terminatrix makes a lot more sense than the T-1000. The T-1000 in 2 makes no damned sense, unless Cameron is claiming that every individual atom of that machine has the same sentience and control as every other piece. Otherwise when its destroyed or broken up it would have no ability to reform or act on it's on. It would have to have some kind of robot core beyond nano-technology that was never even hinted at in the film or the books even for the future level of technology. Nobody ever questions it, but it just shows how flat Cameron's ideas are when he isn't using other peoples concepts. He thought a liquid robot would be cool looking, and it was at the time, but it makes no sense that it would reconstitute itself or be able to function with giant losses of it mass. It pisses me off to no end. I like 2. I saw it in the theater the summer it came out and loved it as a kid, but it has issues. People act like it's a golden standard. 4 was crap for a lot of reasons, and the only good thing about it was Reese in the future. The actor who played the terminator sucked. His motivations made no sense. Bale was just being bale and yelling at crap, and I have no fooking clue how Marla from Fight Club wormed her way into the film. The ending was a pile of crap too... why not just let Conner die? A Terminator gives him his heart? Are you serious? Is this a children's cartoon? Utter garbage. It broke the simple concept of the first film that there must be sacrifices. I've said this in other places, but the reason so many Sci-if films were classics in the 80s is simple. They were slasher horror films. That's all there is to it. Predator. Alien. Terminator. Robocop even, to a lesser degree. They all got their start with a shoe string budget and all the elements of the horror genre of the 80s. The sci-if stuff was added to it, the terminology and the settings changed, but it was still a force of nature destroying obstacles. The rules were a little different as the hero's had a chance to win, but that's all you need to make it work. In other words make it dark and make it a struggle for somebody.- 508 replies

Best box art I've seen on a Macross release, bar none. Shows the toy. Great font. Not too flashy, but not cheap.

Even though Cameron ripped the idea for the first film off from Ellison, and Avatar was pretty bad? I don't get the fan worship of Cameron. He made a few of the best action films ever in the 80's with Aliens and Terminator.... but he's made a lot of overblown crap too. He's at his best when he's limited and working with other people ideas, and now people just kiss his butt and he goes overboard on CGI. Cameron isn't the be all and end all of Terminator films, or action films either. He did a great job on 1 and 2, though the story of 2 got a little mushy.- 508 replies

Idk, i can't understand the dislike for 3. It's a solid movie and much more true to the first one than the second one was with all the mushy "boy-loves-his-robot". I also can't understand how somebody who loved 1 and 2 would knock a chance at going back and seeing a proper film that isn't eat up with Bale's ego and a shitty script. I'm pumped for anything Arnold does honestly. His last few films have been pretty darn good. No amazing, but certainly entertaining. People just like to knock older movie stars for some reason even though they've given people countless hours of joy and tons of great films... it's like, "oh he's old, he suuuuucks, lets make fun of him!" It's like getting pissed of that Michael Jordan went back to Basketball even if he wasn't quite as good. It's still a joy to watch him do his thing.- 508 replies

I dont think the gap is that substantial. Could be that you can pull the nose cone out like the vf-1's and it's just not pushed as far back.

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
Gakken85 replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe they talked, but I think HT's global domination isn't going to wait for SS's concerns. They have designers who would love to do the same figure they will do it. You have a good point. I forgot how dumb SW collectors are. I collected POTF stuff in the 90's. That broke me of collecting Star Wars toys haha. It's just junk at this point. Market flooded junk. Though, I did sell some carded 80's stuff a few years back and made a nice profit. I got a Medicom Fett but it was pretty terrible. -
Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
Gakken85 replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think HT has been working on Star Wars stuff for months as they knew the Licenses would come through. They initially said that they would do figures that wouldn't conflict with SS lines but I think that's out the door. SS probably knew it too and pushed a lot of figures out the door. Them BAM HT has 6 or 7 figures ready right after comic con. It's a glut of product to be honest. Sideshow helps them distribute in NA, but I'm sure HT could do that on their own if push came to shove. Some people prefer some of the SS stuff but I think it's all second class. It's going to make pretty much all of the SS stuff tank. Cancelled PO and loss of value. I guess diehards will buy some of the lesser known stuff. IDK. If Sideshow was smart they would focus on oddball characters that HT might never get to and let HT do the big stuff. But then again, SS could have never pulled off a decent Chewie. It's a tight spot for them. I think SS should focus on Comic representations and maybe Horror stuff. -
